The carnival is coming to town, and it's bringing something besides the smells of popcorn and cotton candy. Death follows this carnival, as well as a rash of mysterious disappearances.
Paranormal handler Finn McCoy is given the task of finding the missing son of a Cincinnati crime boss, and all the clues point to a traveling carnival currently winding its way through North Carolina. When one of the mobster's employess suffers a puzzling death on the outskirts of Asheville, McCoy begins to suspect that supernatural forces are at work. Accompanied by the streetwise best friend of the man he is searching for, McCoy races against time to discover the dark secret behind the Drugger Brothers' Carnival before the body count starts to rise.
I was born and raised in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, a town nestled in the mountains of Appalachia. Which, by the way, is pronounced "apple-atcha", not "a-puh-lay-shua". My favorite TV shows as a kid were "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" and "Night Gallery" with Rod Serling. I was also drawn to books with larger-than-life heroes such as Doc Savage and Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane. I was (and still am) a big X-files fan, along with Lost, Supernatural, and The Walking Dead. I prefer horror and thrillers where there is a real, supernatural villain as opposed to psychological horror, and I try to incorporate such characters into my stories.
Finn is my fictional character hero. I lovè how the author created a character that possess passion while putting himself in danger. If you are looking for something to read thats funny, mysterous, frightening, thrilling, and much more. Scott Langrel, the author. You will not be disappointed.
I just love these Finn McCoy books. They are short, but they aren't long and drawn out and not boring. Once I start reading one of these books, I can't put it down. Well off to read the next one.
This is the first book I have read from this author, and of course, the first Finn McCoy book! What a great read! Wonderfully written, perfect storyline, and awesome characters! I now need to go and buy more of these books! Great job!
The whole freakin Finn McCoy series is so good. I wasn't so sure about this one at first, because I'm not into carnivals, but it was much different than expected and a terrific story with dark twists. It's just so easy to get into the book and enjoy the ride.
Overall, I feel like maybe Langrel back slid on this one a bit. Where, again, this gives you a quick read that’s overall enjoyable, it doesn’t have much of an underlying premise to the overall series plot line. We’re back to McCoy just hunting evil entities. I enjoyed the creativity and I think this one had a little more of a nail biting effect but overall just not a lot of substance. It’s still pretty well written and the dialogue feels natural, even with the new characters. There were some interesting twists this time which was a nice change of pace but overall, not much to chew on. A fun read, again.
Why do these stories end so soon? It's nice to read an imaginative tale that has good dialogue as well as plot. I'm beginning to get a mental picture of Finn McCoy - sort of like if Andy Griffith, the 1960s TV sheriff of Mayberry, had an older, scruffier, slightly strange older brother. That's not all bad.
So I don't feel the need to recap the action. Finn manages the situation with help from old and new friends. End of story. It's a bit of a simplistic formula but it works. These books would be great TV episodes. I'd watch them!
I love these books, and Finn McCoy. They have just enough action and a paranormal element to suspend your disbelief. I do miss the old covers though. The new ones are more colorful and draw the eye better, but the black and white images were different enough that they did, too. Anyway if you like a bit of the unusual, you're sure to love McCoy.
Blood Carnival (A Finn McCoy Paranormal Thriller #5)
A great book for those interested in classical paranormal mystery & ghost hunting. Scott Langrel's choices / rich diversity of entities in this series are fascinating. And the apparitions are as deadly as ever in this action packed tale, full of twists, turns, and just abit of humor
Fast read, great editing. Each story in the series is based on real legends of the paranormal. Great for adults and young adults. I am on to the next book in this series.
Good story, believable characters...I would put Mr. Langrel in the same league as King & Koontz...always a pleasure to read the adventures of Finn McCoy...
