Pretty great series of books! I bought the whole series on a whim at a library book sale. I'm so glad I did. I felt the ending was a bit rushed to get to the point, but the emotional roller coaster was still there. I felt satisfied reading the last sentence. Great ending for the Dragonlands.
Did the story REALLY have to end? I was so hooked in this series... the ONLY thing I had a problem with in this book (e-book version) was the print got smaller on me and I had trouble reading it as quickly...
The long build up up throughout the series, was brought to what sealed a rushed ending. This didn't however take my enjoyment away. I just felt it was rushed.
3.2 I totally forgot to mark that I was reading this book, this is a first I think. This is my first finished fantasy series and I do think it´s a good one to start with, it´s simple and not overwhelming like this genre tends to be. I really enjoyed the series and looking back to it all it gives me a fuzzy feeling about being part of this journey. I just remembered I started the series during my ski trip AWWW!!
Prose/ Voice (0.6): I don´t think it got better over time, I would expect so after several books being published. Characters (0.65): I finished without really caring for anyone, I kinda liked Connor in some books. SPOILER ALERT: After some deaths in previous books, the deaths in this book did not worry me I just though "they´re gonna come back in the end", and I am kind of over this (thanks GOT). World (0.55): Never a fan and you see even less about the world in this book. Story (0.7): Even with the previous flaws, I enjoyed the whole series. I saw the cover of the book and knew what was going to happen, it was just so rushed and kind of convenient when some things were not fleshed out enough. SPOILER ALERT: the ending was all about Tressa, I expected at least a group hug or some kind of closure on the characters I´ve been reading this past months. Enjoyment/ Message (0.7): I canít help but to think as this individual look as the whole. It really holds a special place in my heart. Than you Megg.
Reckoning is book five of Megg Jensen’s Dragonlands series; the final showdown between Tressa, her friends, and the darkness that threatens the world. It’s a great end to a great series, and well worth picking up.
So, finally we are here. Book five. The finale. Let the fight for Dragonlands commence. There’s little to explain in terms of plot really. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably read the preceding books. So yes, book five is exactly what you think it is. A reckoning and an almighty battle to save Dragonlands from a great evil. Classic pretext.
So, is it worth the wait? Well, yes it is. This is a great finale to a fantasy series, and the final book echoes all of the qualities we’ve seen before. And we do wrap up here too, closing off a lot of questions, albeit not before introducing some new ones along the way. It is not an entirely happy ending, but I like that. There is realism thrown in. Overall a satisfying outcome.
The final battle is well done too. There are some nice twists in there that keep the reader guessing, which is great. Perhaps the grand finale was written in a slightly rushed way, skimming over details, but it definitely did work.
The other thing I really liked about this book was a reflection of what we’ve seen in previous books. The author has a real way of writing disturbing scenes, and this book is no exception. There are a few passages of a scarier nature, and they are written in a really engaging way. Tressa’s facing off really stuck with me: it’s great stuff.
So, anything that’s not so good? Well, a few things stand out. The first is actually just to do with the general feel of the book. I think this has been true throughout the series, but the world has a slightly sparse feel to it. Like it was all a bit devoid of people. This is supposed to be an end of the world type affair, but it had a distinctly local feel to it. Just a slightly strange sensation to it really.
Then there are a couple of minor plot details that just didn’t quite add up for me. The first is to do with a group of heroes who appear for Tressa rather randomly, and commit themselves to her cause. It’s all a really nice idea, but a bit too sudden for me. I wanted these heroes to enter the fray with a swagger, but for that to be the case they needed a bit more meat on their backstory bones. Shame.
And finally there is our antagonist. We are given a lot of backstory for our antagonist which we see through their eyes. Presumably this is to help us understand motive, but for me, I would rather have been either left a bit in the dark, or have found out through conversations in the story. Small issue really, but worth a note.
But these are lesser issues, and they do not overshadow a great finish to a great series. Well worth diving into.
I found this a depressing finale. Too many people died and once the enemy was vanquished the story ended fairly abruptly. We didn't really get a feel of what would happen next, other than Tressa and Bastian are together again which I personally was not thrilled about. I preferred Jarrett.
At one point Donovan thinks to himself that Tressa will not be able to kill him since he had not been able to commit suicide successfully despite numerous attempts. So how come it is so easy for him to die when Tressa simply sticks him with her sword? Consuming him afterwards as a dragon was a nice touch.
Going way back in Donovan's history, what ever happened to Bianca, the woman who initially bewitched him (for lack of a better term) As I recall she just left which means she should still be alive and able to create more havoc.

Maybe it was just the fact that I had it in kindle, but there were several pretty obvious typos in this book and a few of the sentences made it feel like it missed an editing step. In terms of the story, it was pretty good but I feel like the final battle felt rushed and while I could see why the author did that, they also rushed the explanations that were big potential plot holes. It just wasn't as satisfying as I was hoping I guess. My biggest complaint however is that we never find out what Fi's experience with the shades was like. I had hope when Hazel survived her encounter that it would be described but it wasn't there either. I'm rather disappointed because that's a big opportunity for creativity. Overall, the character growth was decent and while I'm frustrated Tressa and Bastian got together in the end, there was a decent depiction of grief and loss in the end of the book. 3/5

This is the last book in the Dragonlands series and really pulls together all the truths hinted at in the previous books. Tressa, Bastian, and Connor the three close friends really do live on to fight together against the evil that has invaded their home and is threatening to kill all of them. I did enjoy the books in this series and hope you will as well.
There are many things I loved about this series. Mainly the characters and the storyline. It is a new twist on dragons and loved that.
I am not so excited about the ‘evil’ and why Donovan became Antagonist in the story. I needed more reason that what Megg gave us. That part could have been better developed.
However with that said, it is a Good Read that every lover of Dragon Stories should truly enjoy!
Definitely enjoyed the final book in this series however, I'm left with too many questions to feel that it should be the final book 😕 Meg Jensen has done a great job with this series, the characters are rounded and all have very individual characteristics, thoughts and feelings and come alive on the page. Well worth reading this series and I'm so glad that I did
This was book five and the final book in the dragon lands series. I enjoyed the series but this book was a bit disappointing. It seemed like it rushed through the end. Things seemed too simple based on the rest of the story. A seemingly undefeatable character for 500 years was taken care of rather quickly. The series was a good read overall though. Characters were well developed but the end fell slightly flat.
In the end, this was a disappointment of a series. Short and quick enough to power through, but glad to put it down for good. Interesting ideas, but poor development. Doubt this would be something I would recommend or want to read more of. Rating for entire series.
Definitely had me on the edge of my chair a few times. Some very sad parts of course, but the characters were believable and I'm hoping for a quiet life for the ones that left too , they earned it .
Saying I enjoyed this book would not do it justice! Predictable at times (but who gives a care), this 5th book was a fabulous culmination of the first four to bring a rightful end to the battle of the Dragonlands.
I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys being fully emerged into a story. Megg Jensen was able to take me into another world with very interesting characters. Very good read.
Twists turns, this book has it all. As well as a tear- jerker. You will laugh then cry, you may even want a little revenge for all the betrayal, but the end will have you wanting more. Enjoy it while you can, personally I couldn't put it down.
