Heart & Soul #1

Heartstrings

Rate this book
Forgetting the past isn’t always a choice.

Jo Hayes is desperate for answers. After waking from a coma, she faces a harsh reality. Amnesia has stolen six years of her life. The only thing keeping her sane is her brother, Brighton, who vows to protect her at all cost.

As fear and confusion dominate Jo, she struggles to regain her memories. Pieces slowly emerge once she meets the mysterious Adam Hart. Something about him strikes a nerve she can’t ignore, and the more she’s with him, the harder she fights to remember.

While the flashbacks bring Jo closer to the truth, they leave her physically drained. If her memories don’t return naturally, the truth may destroy more than her mind. It may be the one thing that kills her.

Heartstrings is the first installment in the Heart & Soul Series. If you like riveting romances blended with love, loss, and hope, then you’ll enjoy Kelli McCracken’s gripping look at one woman’s struggle to overcome the odds.

Wow!

Jo comes out of a coma with memory loss. She doesn't remember the last 6 years of her life. Her journey towards trying to remember is frustrating, heart breaking, sad and a little frightening.

Kelli McCracken wrote an in depth, raw, and brilliant story on memory loss. I love this story! I could not believe the climax and ending! Amazing! I can not wait to read more books from Kelli McCracken! :)

I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.

I cannot begin to describe how much I enjoyed this book. It's so full of emotion and keeps you guessing all the way through! I couldn't bare to stop reading, and devoured it in just one day!

We meet Jo as she awakens from a coma, she doesn't have a clue what put her in said coma or why her hand is so injured! Her world falls apart when she realises how bad her injury is. She's a pianist, music is her life. Of all the things she had forgotten that was not one of them. My heart broke for Jo as she tries to figure out what happened to her.

I was sucked into the story as if I was there going through the entire painful process with her. I felt so frustrated for the poor woman when she couldn't remember a thing and her brother refuses to help jog her memory! She meets the mysterious and devastatingly handsome Adam who she believes is just a figment of her imagination. Obviously you will need to read to find out!

What she remembers is something you need to read to experience. My emotions were all over the place whilst reading. There were times when my guesses were correct but mostly I was way off the mark and left in utter confusion! I loved how I couldn't get enough of the story and also the fact that I had no clue what was actually going on!

Highly recommended - this will leave you begging for more! Five stars!

Total tear-jerker and beautiful love story. 5 stars!

Favorite quotes:

"Yet something about this mysterious man tugged at my heart. No... it was more than that. He didn't just stir my heart. He moved my soul. The way his gaze held me in place, as though he saw past the facade that I put on for Brighton. The little crook at the corner of his mouth shook me to the core. When I looked in his eyes, it was like looking into the Caribbean Sea."

"...I hated seeing him go but knew he wasn't far away. He never was. I had him tucked neatly in the corner of my mind. The moment I needed him, he'd return."

"No humor showed on his face, but devotion did. Absolute devotion."

"Had Adam's soul come in search of mine?"

"'You finished, baby. You finished our song. And it's beautiful, just like you.'"

Emotional but amazing

I absolutely loved this book. I couldn't put it down. Jo has just woken up fop rom being in a coma and cannot remember the last 6 years of her life. This book takes you through her trying to regain her memories bit by bit. My heart broke so many times in this book. At times I thought the worst and was completely blindsided when the next memory came.

If you have not read this book it is highly recommended that you do read it especially if you love powerful, emotional love stories. This is going to the top of my favorite reads for this year by far.

Heart-wrenching & poignant.

Jo can't remember the last six years of her life. She knows she should but it's just not there. This story takes you on the journey with Jo as she works to remember and find her life again.

Just like the music that Jo loves - this story left the impression of a beautiful song floating along until it dives deep with the ending finale.

Jo is frustrated by her physical injury to her hand - that keeps her from the piano, as well as the fogginess in her memories.

As her journey unfolds the pieces are scattered and chaotic, eventually she begins to find the thread that pulls it all back together. Through the twists and turns we see the moments in her life return along with the people that love her.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this e-copy

All I can say is Kelli McCracken blew my mind but in a good way. WOW! So AMAZING!

In Heartstrings we meet Jo, who has suffered a traumatic accident and she can't remember anything. All she knows is her reason for being is gone, how can she create music again when she can't play the piano ever again.

She knows everyone around her is keeping things from her and everytime she tries to remember it just hurts her more. Then enter this mysterious person named Adam. Why does he disappear all the time, is he real? Is he a figment of her warped mind and sense of reality?

Jo feels like she is losing what little control she has until Paxton shows up on her doorstep. He looks so much like Adam but who is he really and what is he to her. She feels so connected to him and shares her fears, but who is Paxton really and who is Adam?

In this book Kelli takes us on emotional self discovery as we travel the path right next to Jo. We experience her pain and the frustration of not knowing who she is or who she was for the past few years. The way this story weaves around you and becomes one in your heart is amazing. This book had me feeling so much emotion and at one point I couldn't see the words through my tears.

I am in awe and wonder of Kelli's Storytelling Talent. I fell in love with her books with the Soulmate Series, the love affair continued in the Mystique Antiques Series and now with the Heart & Soul Series; I see myself becoming more and more of a super fan of Kelli McCracken's. I wish I could give this book a MILLION STARS!!! Unfortunately I am limited to five.

Be prepared Kelli because I plan on stalking you for a very long time!!!

~~~~~~~~~~Sharlene's ★★★★✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Heartstrings is definitely an emotional roller coaster. It is full of surprises, twists, turns and ups and downs. Whenever I thought I had it figured out, something else would happen and I would realize I was wrong. The full truth doesn't come out until almost to the end of the book so you be on the edge of your seat the entire time you're reading. The characters are all intense. I realize everything done in the story was for Jo's benefit, I gotta say that if I was told that someone was going to be living in my house without my approval there would be hell to pay. This is how I know I truly enjoyed this story - I still feel the ups and downs of the story even after finishing it. For me, that shows the author's true talent.
There are elements of the supernatural involved in this story. Although I am not a paranormal or supernatural romance fan, I did find that it did nothing but add to this story and make it more emotional. With this supernatural element comes a lot of internal dialogue. I prefer books that have more conversations in them. But it all worked for this story and these characters.
This book is a stand alone, does not have a cliffhanger and does have an HEA.
Love, loss, secrets and self discovery. Kelli McCracken pulls you in and doesn't let go. An intriguing story of a woman with amnesia fighting for her life and to regain the memories she lost. You feel the depth and range of emotions through all of the characters. I highly recommend it. I look forward to reading more from her.
~~~~~~~~~~Dee's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~

This story should be a movie! The reader has the unique opportunity to walk in Jo's skin since the entire plot is in her POV. Jo awakes from a coma with amnesia covering the past six years. As she sorts through her confusion and begins to piece together clues and her memories slowly return, she is inundated with mystery and hundreds of unanswered questions. There is a very special connection with one individual that mystifies and tugs at her heart. Like peeling layers from an onion, people and events trigger flashbacks that slowly fill in the missing gaps of her memory. This book has the most precious love story written. I would love to see it on the big screen. Without a doubt, Kelli is the Queen of Romance within a mystery package. She is especially my number one author for love stories. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars.

Words cannot describe the emotions you feel when reading Heartstrings. This is the first work of Kelli's that I've read, and I fell in love with it!

This book takes you on an incredible journey of self discovery. In order to open your mind to find yourself you have to listen to your heart and trust your instincts. Don't lose hope and don't give up. You may never find what you are looking for if you do.

I was definitely guessing what and who throughout this book. It was emotional, intriguing, and somewhat suspenseful throughout.

Jo has suffered a traumatic accident and she unable to remember things.Only bits and piece does Jo remember from childhood. She does not feel like going on, since she has lost the use of her fingers to play piano.Her brother Brighton, tries all that he can to help her to remember with out full out telling her. I received a free copy of this book from the Romancing the Dragon Review Group. This is the first book I have read by this author but it will definitely not be the last. It gripped my emotions from page 1 and didn't let go until the last. The story sweeps you away into Jo's world and the evocative style of writing means that you are no longer reading words on a page but are right alongside Jo, experiencing her turmoil, pain and anger. Despite losing 6-years of her memories she instinctively knows that both Pax and Adam are important to her. Adam's presence calms her and brings her a peace sorely lacking in her upside down world. There are twists and turns along the way as she rediscovers her life and finally gets to the truth of what happened to her and what led up to this tragedy. I couldn't help feeling sorry for Brighton, he bore the brunt of Jo's anger, some of it deserved but mostly because he was the easiest target. The position he was put in having to care for her and yet not being able to tell her the truth must have been devastating for him. A definite must read for lovers of fine writing and beautiful love stories.

A soulful experience!!!!

I am not new to Kelli McCracken's ability to create art with words...as having read the Soulmate series books, but I must say she blew me away with this book! Her characters are so real and simply become a part of your life from page one until the end...and linger after that. Jo's road to recovery from an accident that not only stole her memories, but other precious things from her life, is a journey of mystery and realities, love and pain....heart and soul. I eagerly await the next installment of this series and any others Kelli McCracken has brewing in that brilliant mind of hers. 5 BIG STARS!!!

Thrilling romance keeps your brain working!

This novel was really well written and you get to feel what the characters are feeling and experiencing. I was constantly feeling for Jo throughout the book as she was trying to remember. Nothing gave away throughout the book...any new memories that were coming back to Jo were just as a shock to me as the reader as it was to her. I would recommend this book to everyone!!

Good

I must say, I became as upset with the people in Jo's life as she, herself did. Not remembering anything was so frustrating. And as the story unfolds and her memories start to return, it's just as bad, because you know something traumatic and terrible happened. Very engrossing, and it felt as if I was rooting for a friend. Recommend.

At beginning I was so confused, like Jo was. It's very realistic, good written and fantasy in one. I like main plot, story is compeling and I love the end. And to add elements of mistery and paranormal, I love it.

My first book by this author... I felt it dragged out a little at the beginning, and finished quickly. I still enjoyed reading it and was wanting to get to the end to understand what was happening. Mild romance (mild love triangle) nothing too heavy, sad at times.

Jo is a twenty-six-year-old woman who awakens after being in a coma caused by an accident, She is very frustrated to find she has amnesia and is missing memories from a big part of her life. To make matters worse it seems like everyone is keeping secrets from her and they don't want to help her get her memories back. The experts have told those close to her not to force her to remember because her memories could be affected by what they say. Due to injuries of her hand, she is unable to play the piano which was one of the things she loved to do. Can she find another way to channel her musical interested and will she be able to get her memories back? This is a wonderfully written story and I really felt for the struggle Joe was going through. Amazing heartstrings were tugged

There’s this moment when Jo finally gets her memories back where this whole book just becomes so emotional. Josie and Adam are soulmates and the fact that Adams soul comes to her so often is proof of that. I think anyone would have difficulties coming to terms with the trauma that occurs when your body is devastated from a car wreck. Losing your ability to play the piano when that’s all you have known I think your brain protects you from some of the worst things. This book is amazing heart wrenching and shows how true love can can fix anything.

Too much sadness

This book started with a warning that made the corners of my mouth curl up. Bud sadly, that was the only time in the book they did that.

Jo is understandably sad and negative, mainly in the beginning. And while I could relate to her, it was too heavy for me, too intense, too serious. Too much sadness, too much pain. I guess I just wasn’t in the mood for that. And it’s a bit strange sometimes. I have to say: it does have a good ending. No cliff-hangers. But all in all, while this book sounded really interesting, and was well written, it ended up not being my thing.

A range of emotions

Jo has been in some sort of accident. After a coma she has only her twin brother but he refuses to tell her what happened. The book had me staying up to read it. I went through the character's range of emotion throughout the story. I was frustrated for her, confused with her, felt her anger, heartbroken beside her. I love a book like that. I can't wait to read more in this series and hope to be just as connected and enthralled.
