I'm not a non-fiction girlie, but I am definitely a true crime girlie so this was right up my street.
Definitely an easy read, keeps you engaged and is a great insight into journalism that sadly doesn't really exist in today's world. I've always been intrigued by the plots that we don't know about because they've been foiled or don't go off as expected, so it's interesting to read about what Jeff could report and what he couldn't, particularly when it was clear there was a good story there but not enough evidence.
Does it paint him in a very heroic light? Sure. What else would we expect from a self-written memoir. The jumping around chronologically was a bit jarring, but I do get why they parcelled it up into themes of crimes rather than years, and I do think that was the best route.
Definitely a good, easy and slightly humorous read, despite its subject matter.

More of a 4.5
This was a well written memoir by crime journalist, Jeff Edwards. Gave a good insight into his career across several newspapers, from small local to several "Big Hitters" based on Fleet Street. Each case was well described, especially the working relationships he had developed with several police officers over his career. This was often light hearted/gallows humour which helped make sure the book wasn't grim or too dark without taking away the emotional impact of some difficult cases.
Highly recommended for True Crime fans who need a "lighter" book.

As someone who loves a thriller book this was very different but OMG so interesting and loved getting to learn about a journalist point of view in some of the most know cases in the UK and a little further afield. Definitely worth a read if your up for some true crime from a different perspective.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The life of a crime reporter who had contacts within the Police which made his job easier and allowed him to be party to information others would have loved.
