The Villains of Wolf Hollow #0
The Witch of Wolf Hollow
We were destined to be a tragedy.
The children born to a dying legacy, the family trapped within the walls of a crumbling castle.
I learned quickly the lies we needed to tell the world. The reputation we needed to obtain to keep the monsters at bay.
We were destined to be a tragedy until the day my brother fell in love.
The brilliant, broken chemist who found the answer in a field of wildflowers.
And I solved the problem with the bite of an apple.
Everett White might be the Witch of Wolf Hollow.
But this is our story.

Dark, twisted, and hauntingly seductive!
The Witch of Wolf Hollow is a sinister, spellbinding tale that draws you into the strange and unsettling world of Evelyn White and her brother Evie, whose lives are shaped by a legacy steeped in secrets, deception, and darkness and who, as the boundaries between love, loyalty, and obsession begin to blur, find themselves caught in a chilling story where nothing is quite as it seems and every choice comes with a price.
The writing is vivid and atmospheric. The characters are multilayered, secretive, and damaged. And the plot is a gritty, compelling mix of life, loss, deception, obsession, temptation, tragedy, danger, mystique, forbidden desire, sacrifice, and wicked fairy-tale magic.
Overall, The Witch of Wolf Hollow is a deliciously macabre, emotionally charged, wildly imaginative story by Everhart that explores the complicated bonds between siblings and is another wickedly creative, exceptionally entertaining addition to the Wolf Hollow series that completely enchanted me.

“His gift has always been his ability to love. Openly and easily, from his seemingly unlovable sister to the boy he found in a field of wildflowers. My brother was always meant for more.
And I was meant to keep it that way.”

“Evelyn doesn’t need a genius label because she’s already conquered the world.
I need to be told I’m special. Even then, odds are I won’t believe it. But Evelyn.. she already knows it. Has proven it true a thousand times and will keep proving it true because that’s the kind of person she is.”
~
“A naked reminder that the parts that get callused and changed are still worthy of love. That the ugliest, most withered parts of ourselves reflect only a fragment or the truth.”

The Witch of Wolf Hollow takes us back in time to give us a look into the rise and fall of White Castle. This time, the main players are Evelyn White, failed prodigy and eldest sibling to Everett White, the brilliant, but broken chemist. This book shines a light on the complexities of family dynamics and the sacrifices we’re willing to make for love, in all its different forms.
Not to be dramatic, but there aren’t enough words that I can string together to begin to describe the impact that this book had on me. As one of my most anticipated book releases of the year, I knew I was going to like this read, but it far surpassed even my highest expectations.
The second Jade Everhart announced that she’d be writing a family drama, I was instantly intrigued by the premise of a different kind of love story taking place in the twisted & brutal world of Wolf Hollow.
In true Everhart fashion, we got complex and layered characters who yearn deeply for each other’s approval, but who are being repeatedly kicked down and hardened by their circumstances. This book really showed the impact of living in survival mode for so long, especially when you aren’t allowed to show any weakness in a place like Wolf Hollow. Beyond the evolution of their sibling dynamic, one of my favourite parts of Evelyn & Evie’s arcs was seeing the different ways in which they both responded to their upbringings and to living in this villainous town their whole lives.
Also, the biggest surprise to me was how much I loved Evelyn’s storyline above and beyond the romance subplot between Evie and Dorian. While these two characters were everything I needed and then some, there was just so much going on in White Castle for Evelyn to take care of that I found myself looking forward to her chapters slightly more than Evie’s, which never happens when I’m reading a romance! The alternating points of views were also masterfully set up to show us the budding romance in parallel to Evelyn’s struggle to keep their family afloat, which made this read so difficult to put down!
On this note, given the very different nature of these two siblings’ responsibilities, what could have come across as “fluff” on Evie’s end, in comparison to Evelyn’s plight, ended up actually coming across as a teenager struggling deeply with his mental health, and finding peace in another person, as so many of us do. I often found myself wanting to scream in frustration for Evelyn, but then had to remind myself that Evie was going through it just as much, but in different ways. To be able to pull these reactions out of me and contrast these siblings’ experiences and responses to trauma in a way that honoured both of these characters is a true testament to the masterful way that Jade Everhart’s writing can make you feel like you’re reading about a real family and not a fictional one.
So let’s talk about the star of the novel : Evelyn White. She encompasses female rage while also showing us the lengths that people, even villains, will go to in order to ensure that their loved ones don’t break. Everhart has written yet another female main character who believes herself to be broken beyond repair. And yet, there is one scene in particular where we get to see her breaking away from the mould she’s tried so hard to fit into all her life and that scene was a true masterpiece.
There was something deeply satisfying about seeing this woman come into her own and take back her power with pure grit and determination and a devotion to her brother that rivals some of the greatest love stories I’ve read.
Overall, this is a definite must read and I would really recommend reading it after books 1 and 2 so you can get the full experience of noticing certain easter eggs !
& if you love :
🧪💎 Family dynamics
🧪💎 Romance subplot (Broken boy x sunshine boy)
🧪💎 Villainous town
🧪💎 Disney retelling but make it ~dark~
🧪💎 Alllll the female rage
Then this one is for you, but I’m also so sure this book will be for everyoneeeee so♥️
I’m sending a huge thank you to Jade Everhart for this e-arc🤭♥️

First and foremost thank you so much Jade Everhart for providing me with this incredible opportunity to reenter one of my favourite worlds! The moment you announced book 3 and highlighted it would be Evelyn & Evie I squealed.
This book absolutely demolished my heart. Ever heard of the saying "have sympathy/empathy towards others"... well achieved my heart absolutely bled for Evelyn & Evie.
This book takes place prior to the two other books (a prequel if you will) and I'm still just stuck here; stuck in all my feelings.
If you love MM subplot, family drama, dual POV and trauma ✨ amongst others this is a must read asap!

Huge thank you to Jade Everhart for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review! I am so honoured to have had the chance to read this early.
I honestly do not even know where to begin with this one. First things first: do NOT go into this expecting a straightforward, fluffy romance. This is a heavy, layered family drama with a romantic subplot, and it will make you FEEL every single word.
“Because no matter how sad the world might be, you can always find a field of wildflowers. And Evie, you can’t be sad in a field of wildflowers.”
The story takes us back to the roots of Wolf Hollow, a couple of years before the events of the main series. Trapped in a crumbling castle with a dying family legacy, Evelyn White has spent her life being the fixer. She tells the necessary lies, protects the family image, and shoulders the weight of keeping the monsters away. But the doomed fate they seem destined for starts to change (or does it) the moment her brother, a broken, brilliant chemist, finds hope in a field of wildflowers.
If you are an eldest daughter carrying family trauma, this book is basically a direct shot at your soul. Having raised my own sister, Evelyn’s dynamic with Evie wrecked me on a deeply personal level. Watching her carry the responsibility of holding everything together while everyone praised her for being "so strong" broke my heart, because anyone used to hearing that praise will tell you the exact same thing: you just wish you never had to become strong in the first place.
“It callused you. Strengthened your ability to do the hard things. The things no one else wants to do.”
That fierce instinct to wreck yourself, to do the ugly, evil things just to keep your sibling safe, clean, and good...it hit WAY too close to home. But what felt most painfully authentic was the quiet resentment that creeps in: the exhausting thought of why can’t you just be stronger? Why can’t someone look after ME for a change? I also loved that Evelyn isn't your stereotypical fantasy FMC; the book gives such a nuanced, thoughtful look into different ways minds can work and explores different sexualities so naturally.
Evie’s character arc was equally incredible. His growth is huge, and his journey shows how having just one person truly see you can alter your whole world. The overall atmosphere carries this heavy, hopeless darkness, but the moments between Evie and Dorian are absolute gold. It shows that there usually is a stunning silver lining that reminds you to look for joy, even in the ruins. And Dorian’s entire perspective on life gave me pause; it’s something I think we could all benefit from carrying into our own daily lives.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that we get some quick, amazing cameos from characters we have come to know and love. Like Marlin?! I was so ridiculously happy to see him, but DAMN… please stop me from being attracted to this man because he is a literal villain!
The narrative structure completely hooks you because the prologue drops you a year in the future. You essentially see where the story is headed right from the opening pages, and you spend the rest of the book on edge, frantically trying to figure out how these characters could arrive at that moment. As a prequel, getting that rich history of Wolf Hollow was so rewarding, and the brief cameos had me genuinely squealing as I mentioned. Plus, the clever little Disney Easter eggs sprinkled throughout added such a fun layer to the dark atmosphere.
This isn’t a light read, and it isn't just a dark romance. It’s a deep, introspective look at sibling love, sacrifice, and doing the hard work to heal. It was unlike anything I’ve read in a long time and will definitely be sticking with me!

Thank you to the author for the ARC.
This was such a beautiful but heartbreaking story about love, especially the kind of love we don't always talk about enough: the love between siblings. There is an underlying innocent romantic love woven into the story, but it was the sibling relationship that stayed with me the most. There are so many different forms of love that shape our lives, and this story captures both the hope and devastation that can come with them.
The story follows siblings Evelyn and Everett (Evie) as they navigate a complicated family dynamic, the weight of their past, and the things that have shaped who they become. Set within the world of Wolf Hollow, this prequel gives us a closer look at the people and relationships that existed before the events of the other books.
As the eldest daughter myself-eldest everything, really-I found myself connecting with Evelyn. Hopefully I'm a little nicer about it than she is, but I understood that feeling of responsibility that you sometimes place on yourself simply because you're the oldest. There's a strange disconnect that can come with that. You're still a sibling, but you can start feeling responsible for everyone else instead of simply being one of them.
I especially loved seeing how that relationship changes as siblings grow up. What can feel like a burden when you're young can become a lifeline when you're adults. You start seeing each other less as the roles you were given within the family and more as the people you've become. That evolution really resonated with me.
The abuse in this story is well done, specifically because it is not overly graphic, but hinted at, the way children would hint at it without fully understanding what it may mean. Sometimes what isn't shown can hurt just as much, and the emotional impact of watching these characters carry what happened to them will break your heart.
☕ Final Verdict
A deeply emotional story about family, survival, and the many ways we love the people who matter to us. Evelyn and Evie's relationship was the part that affected me most, and I loved that sibling love was allowed to take center stage. It's painful, complicated, and at times devastating, but there's also something incredibly beautiful about the way love can remain a lifeline even after everything changes.

I received a review copy and these are my thoughts:
Jade Everhart did it again. She is back with another story that hits where it hurts, but is so beautifully done and written. This is a show stopper, heartbreaker of a book. I cried. I held onto the edge of my seat and held my breath with every twist and turn.
I really enjoyed the pace. Never a dull moment, only pauses here and there for me to gather my thoughts and feelings because this was intense. These characters had to navigate through dark thoughts, feelings and circumstances. They felt broken and hurt and very alone most of the time - another reason why the evolution in the siblings’ relationship was so meaningful. It went from cold and distant to one of unspoken but unconditional love and support, just what they needed.
Even though siblings Evelyn and Everett “Evie” White are the main characters, Dorian (the youngest of the dwarf siblings and Evie’s love interest) also steals the show. There is so much growth in all three of these characters. And even though Evie is the one that is most affected and changed by Dorian’s sweet and kind nature, this will in turn affect Evelyn and her relationship with her brother.
The sibling relationship starts off closed off. Evelyn is cold and distant, trying to fight the jealousy she feels for her younger brother and family prodigy. What she doesn’t see, is how the weight of being the family prodigy is affecting Evie in a deep and dark way. He feels like a failure for not being up to his mother’s standards of brilliance. And Evelyn feels neglected and somewhat betrayed when she finds out the truth about her family's situation. As she tries to keep the White dynasty afloat, she also has to confront her own short comings and insecurities. Only once the siblings find a way to work together, do they find a way to save themselves. This is a deeply painful and for Evelyn, self-sacrificing process. Their circumstances will test their limits and already questionable morals even further.
The addition of Dorian's character adds a softness and a "ray of sunshine" to Evie's dark and desperate existence. Dorian is a "simple minded" person (he has learning difficulties and also carries his own demons and scars) but always seems to bring a positive outlook on life, preferring to see beauty in simple things like a field of wild flowers or Evie's colourful nail polish collection. The contrast between the two boys - a genius and a "simple minded" person - brings about Evie's softer, loving side and the boys manage to create a safe and healing space to exist together.
From book one, Jade's world building has become more and more elaborate. Her imagination, creativity and beautifully crafted writing never ceases to amaze me. The eerie and decadent atmosphere, adds a layer of danger to both Wolf Hollow and its inhabitants.
I know this book and series isn't for everyone, but if you like dark romance with broken characters and a love story dedicated to sibling relationships and healing love, then do check out this book.
**Please CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS before picking up this book or any dark romance.**

Jade Everhart is the best and worst author on the planet. Let me explain!!
Jade has an absolute gift when it comes to writing. I feel every emotion conveyed in this text.
She's only the worst because this book left me absolutely DEVASTATED. Like curled up on the floor bawling my eyes out. Even though we all knew it wasn't a happy ending. We knew and we still jumped in head first because we needed Evie and Dorian's story.
At first, I was like a prequel? Girl I want Tahira's story! Then I found out it was Evie and Dorian and I shut my mouth so fast.
I'm not generally the type of girl who reads mm romance. Not that I have anything against it, trust me. I'm an ally to the core. None of the other books really sparked my interest.
The words "drop of Sunshine" will forever haunt me. Not only are they beautiful. At first I smile, and then the cold hand of sadness washes over me.
This book taught me how it feels to be beautiful instead of pretty. Beautiful is something you feel on the inside. That sparkle ✨ that only few people truly have.
This book showed me what it means to be there. The consequences of not being there can be heartbreaking.
This book makes me feel what it's like to be the reason behind one person's happiness.
So Jade, I love you for breaking my heart in the worst possible way.
Now, how long exactly do I have to wait for book 3?

4⭐ for The Witch of Wolf Hollow by Jade Everhart
One thing that strikes me about Jade every time I read one of her books, is how beautifully she writes about trauma, and how gut-wrenching and healing her stories are.
In this case, Evelyn was the quintessential eldest daughter, doing everything in her power to protect her brother while also resenting him for being the favorite. The choices she has to make to ensure his safety, her family's legacy, and her own well-being are atrocious at times, and yet are perfectly suited to world of Wolf Hollow.
I loved the Disney references in this one, and how cleverly Jade weaves them throughout the storyline; sometimes subtle, other times not, they are always meaningful and sharp.
The MM subplot to this family drama was sweet and pure, almost too much so for this dark world, and while it may end in tragedy, the journey was worthwhile. I also loved the glimpses of Marlin Seaborn and Calista Drache we get throughout the story, and how it all connects back to the rest of the series.
Very much looking forward to the next instalment in the Wolf Hollow series!
Thank you to Jade Everhart for a copy in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

This was a hauntingly beautiful book. A love story that goes beyond romantic love and is truly about the trauma bond between siblings.
Evelyn as the eldest daughter sacrificing herself to protect her younger brother was incredibly powerful and gut wrenching. And watching Evie as the younger brother transform from the soft broken boy into something else was chilling.
It was simply genius how this prequel made so much sense and gave me a better understanding of the origins of the characters in books 2 & 3. The scene with Marlin was particularly powerful especially if you remove his layers and realize why Melody is his perfect match.
The full circle moment of the wishing well to the moment the true Witch of Wolf Hollow was born was a mic drop moment.
Oh and Patrick Warburton's voice was loud and clear in my head with Kurt and I could not stop laughing at his scene.
Another masterpiece by Jade Everhart.

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR BC THIS IS ONE OF MY TOP READS OF THE YEAR!!!
Jade knew what she was doing with all the teasings because broken characters who? ME—I was the left in shambles after reading this one🫠
Coming back to Wolf Hollow is always a journey filled with adrenaline, thrills, fun, love, and horror. This book is a prequel, set before the events of Books 1 and 2, so I loved watching the plot of this book intersect with the events of the previous two and flow so seamlessly into them! While reading, I also noticed some Easter eggs Jade had left throughout the first two books and I’m so glad I didn’t miss them🙈
This is one of those stories that grabbed my heart from the very first word. You know the writing is incredible when you’ve just met these characters, yet somehow you already care about them so deeply?!🥹
Evelyn and Everett, or Evie, the prodigal siblings of White Castle. This story was dark and twisted and it took me through every kind of emotion. I absolutely ate up the family drama but that also meant my heart was shattered a million times lol.
Evelyn was that angry, tough eldest daughter who carries the burden of never feeling good enough. A failed prodigy who deeply cares but hides behind a facade, struggling to express her emotions. She initially came across as cold, consumed by jealousy toward her brother for being the smart, brilliant child of the family. But watching Evelyn go from being so hard on Evie to doing ANYTHING to protect and heal him did something to my heart that I didn’t know I needed.
Evie, the sweet, brilliant, beautiful, broken boy. I could go on and on about him. His transformation from a broken boy into something else was absolutely bone-chilling. Watching him constantly beg for his eldest sister’s love was heartbreaking. His struggles with his mental health, his desperate craving for his sister’s love, and his journey toward freeing himself from the expectations placed upon him were an experience of their own. It all felt painfully real!!
The character development these siblings went through, despite everything they endured, was incredible. Their fears, grief, and losses were things I deeply empathized with. I loved watching these two eventually find solace in each other, slowly opening up and learning to understand one another🥹🩷
And i adored the MM subplot!!🥰 Dorian. My sweet, shy boy. He truly lives up to his nickname, “drop of sunshine,” because his personality shines both on and off the page, despite everything he went through, things I could have never imagined. His backstory was just as heartbreaking as the broken siblings’, and he truly stole my heart.
Evie and Dorian were meant to find each other, and it’s so evident how Dorian healed a part of Evie that he never broke🥹 I loved how lil Dorian made Evie feel seen, understood, and validated. Their first encounter will live rent-free in my mind forever, and I’ll always be thinking about the two of them dancing in that field of wildflowers. Their banter was another one of my favourite things about their relationship.
But that ending???
DEVASTATINGLY BEAUTIFUL is the only way I can describe it because WHAT WAS THAT ENDING????❤️🩹🥲 Anyhoo, since this is set before the events of the first two books, I know these characters are doing well, but GOD SAVE ME, they deserve to be happy😤
And a huge congratulations to the most talented bestie on this release!!! She truly knows how to write broken characters, and she knows that broken characters and I are inseparable😆
Thank you for the E-ARC and trusting me with your story, Jade!!!🩷🥰

This book was so filled with so emotion, and the progress of Evelyn and Evie's relationship was so beautiful. It broke my heart but they slowly put the pieces back together.
Dorian my sweet baby, he really is a drop of sunshine. 😭 I loved every bit with him in it, I need more people in the world to see beauty like Dorian does.
I loved this book, I loved this series and I absolutely need more. ❤️

What an amazing story from Jade! Heartbreaking at times, but also engaging and ultimately satisfying. The sibling dynamics were authentic, layered, and emotional. This was the prequel I didn’t know I needed!!

What to expect:
• Family drama
• Fall & rise of White Castle
• Broken boy x sunshine boy (MM subplot)
• Tragic, forbidden love
• Dual POV (Evelyn x Evie)
I am such a huge fan of Jade now!! Every time I read one of her books I get sucked in so quick and I can’t ever seem to put the book down and this one was no different!
Ever since the last book I have been so intrigued about Evelyn and Evie’s dynamic and I’m so glad we got to learn more about this dark and slightly spooky atmosphere. We of course had more of the Disney inspiration which I am OBSESSED with! I need Jade to write this world forever!!
Evelyn is such a complicated character but you absolutely can’t not love her. The way she sacrifices herself over and over to protect her brother?? I genuinely just wanted to hug her! Evie’s growth/journey was written so beautifully. I love him dearly.
The MM subplot was also so beautifully done and I’m so in love with Dorian. His personality was so refreshing and I just want to protect him!!
I can’t wait for more of this world because Jade just has such a way with words!! I can’t thank her enough for allowing me to arc read this story! If you haven’t started this series please please please do!

I had no idea what to expect or think before getting into this book and I think that was the best decision, because it allowed the story to unfold without any preconceived notions or expectations. What I found was something far more complicated, raw, and emotionally layered than I could have anticipated.
The whole retelling of the original Disney villains' stories gets me every damn time. There's something so compelling about taking a character we've been taught to fear or despise and asking, "But what made them this way?" This book does exactly that, and it does it beautifully. The details and aesthetic of it all are amazing and refreshing atmosphere.
At its core, this is a complicated story about two damaged siblings who went through some serious parental abuse. On one hand, they experienced it in different ways; on the other, in quite similar ways. Evelyn and Evie are mirrors of each other in some respects and complete opposites in others. The abuse shaped them differently, left different scars, but the wound is shared. Watching them navigate that shared trauma and their complicated feelings toward each other was both heartbreaking and deeply human.
Once Evelyn and Evie realized they were actually each other's best allies rather than competition and that both of them have their own strengths and weaknesses, things in their lives became a little easier to bear. That shift was beautiful to witness. So often, stories pit siblings against each other but this book chose a different path. It let them find their way back to each other, not through grand gestures, but through small, honest moments of understanding.
The true gem of this story is the beauty of love in its different forms. This isn't just a romantic love story it's about familial love, platonic love, self-love, and the love that exists between people who have shared pain. The way small acts of kindness can change someone else's life truly shines in this book. A kind word, a shared meal, a moment of silence when someone needs it most these are the things that save us. That message felt deeply resonant and stayed with me long after I finished reading.
And not gonna lie, the ending felt bittersweet because of so many reasons and the complications of the characters' actions. It wasn't a clean, tidy resolution wrapped in a bow. It was messy and real and it hurt in the best possible way. Without giving anything away, I'll just say that the ending felt painful, but true to the characters and their journeys.

April 21, 2026Another incredible novel by Jade Everhart. The story of Evie and Evelyn is beautiful and heartbreaking, and the story will have you on the edge of your seat until the final pages. Themes of sibling love and support shine throughout this novel, and it has a different but refreshing feel from Everhart's other novels. A 5 star read for sure!
