Betrothed in Fury: A Dark MM Mafia Romance

LOGAN
Charming. Sexy as sin. Out of his damn mind.
That sums up Killian Lorde, one of the most powerful crime bosses in Fury’s underworld.
Since his father passed, he’s stepped into his role as head of the family business.
A role which I, the golden boy of the Wilde clan, more than understand. Forced by birth into a life of corruption and moral bankruptcy, I exist for one to protect my family at all costs.
Only this time, the price is my freedom.
Unbeknownst to me, to maintain my family’s alliance with the Lordes, I’ve been betrothed to Killian.
I’ve always known him to be a bastard, but this arrangement brings out the worst in him.
He’s a monster. Pure, unfettered evil.
He doesn’t just want to marry me. He wants to control and possess me, and when his curiosity becomes obsession, we struggle for power as he demands the one thing I can’t give him.
My complete and total surrender.

Dark MM Romance, grumpy/psycho-sunshine, mob-bosses-to-lovers, morally gray men, frighteningly possessive MC, “Oh, what did that contract say?” arranged marriage, bi-awakening, touch-him-and-die (like, tied up in a sack, thrown into a lake, and left for dead), anything-for-the-family vibes, torture-as-foreplay (just mob bosses doing what they love), “Did I say you could have mashed potatoes?” (iykyk)

DNF at 30% and I regret every page.

I picked it up for the forced arranged marriage trope but it's not for me.

As soon as she’s adjusted in missionary, it’s like she wants to put me through the wringer, make me demonstrate that everything she’s heard about me is true. And I aim to show her just that. I fuck that pussy with my all. On the bed, up against the wall, on the desk, and I can tell by the way she’s calling my name that she’s getting close when I have her pinned up against the wall, drilling.
🙄

He focuses his blue gaze on me. A beautiful blue… not cerulean or aquamarine… Cobalt is the closest I can think of, but darker, with white specks within it, making his irises resemble turbulent waves in the deep ocean, crashing against one another in a violent storm. Apt for a Wilde.
🧿

“Work my cock here, and then you’ll learn how to take my cock in your cunt.” I know what he means, and that’ll happen over my dead body— and with Killian, that’s entirely possible. Hell, he’d probably fuck my corpse, hoping my ghost would have to watch.
Necrophilia, anyone? 👻

I’ve tried to convince myself it’s because he’s had my seed inside him, but that can’t be true because I’ve killed guys who’ve swallowed me before, and they meant nothing.

Add tags later: KU, dark romance, organized crime, forced arranged marriage

Author's CWs: morally gray men, dubcon, controlling behavior around food toward another character (one scene), discussions around mental health (particularly personality disorders), familicide (discussed in backstory) and attempted murder of children, torture, murder, drug trafficking, torture involving a cable noose, mentions of substance abuse/misuse, side character with a history of sexual assault

Why do I need to read an MF sex scene in my MM book?!!🤬 I don’t care it’s at the start of the book😏

Spoiler for said scene
.
.
.
.

‘I don’t have to wait long to find out before we’re tumbling around in her bed. I tear a condom open with my teeth and roll it on. She’s lying there, looking so fucking gorgeous, her full breasts on display, her legs open, inviting me to take that pussy I can still taste on my tongue.
“What was your name again?” I ask.
“You’re gonna ask that right before you stick your dick in me? Really?”
I cringe. That’s such a fuckup. “Would it be terrible to say I was too fixated on your beauty to remember to do that?” “You didn’t ask. I didn’t care. It wasn’t important. But I’m Renee.”
“Fuck, a name as beautiful as you are.”
“If I were upset about it, that would have cleared that right up,” she assures me as I finish rolling on the condom. I lean down and take a kiss, starting to push into her. “Fuck yeah,” she breathes as I work my way inside.
She’s fucking wild. Just needs a fuck, same as me. To forget all the bullshit of this world, the responsibilities and obligations. It’s my birthday, so tonight I get to be a free animal.
“I’m nearly…” she warns, and as her body vibrates in my hold, it’s apparent that it’s too late for her. She calls out, rolling her head back, her muscles twitching as she erupts in a full-body quiver.
I’m nearly there too, thrusting, ready to get to the end, when a sound comes from outside her bedroom.’

Such a riveting scene🤢

I’m going to be honest, I probably should have DNF.

Think I’ve come to the conclusion that this author isn’t for me. There was soooooo much repetitiveness, it got really boring and stale. The first like 50-60% one MC is vehemently denying his attraction to MC2 and yet obsessing over his cum 24/7. Also, feminization when it comes to alluding to a dude’s butthole as a pussy/cunt, is not for me.

I ended up skimming a lot at the end just to finish it.

Received an ARC for an honest review.

How do people who had chemistry at the beginning lose it? The mafia I was promised? I haven't even received anything, including the marriage contract, and they haven't even gotten married? Add the degradation (I can't even!!). 57% in, and Logan is still fighting battles, and they aren't even about the war. For people who are the leaders of the mafia families, they can't talk like adults...

I was super excited about this one. A mafia arranged marriage between two mob bosses with a bi-awakening? Yes please!

If you love an extra possessive MMC who’s intent on claiming his man in every way, with serious “He’s mine” and Touch Him and Die dark vibes, this one is for you!

I really admired the lengths these two eldest sons will go to, will sacrifice even, for their families. The fact that they’d do anything to protect their brothers, including the ones they’ll gain through their marriage. Killian will do anything to protect Logan and his family while Logan respects the decision of his two brothers who don’t want to be involved in the family business.

There’s a real push and pull between these two as they battle for dominance, but Logan’s beast and Killian’s monster complement each other. They have this intensive hold over each other. Killian wants to possess Logan and make him submit. He craves Logan’s obedience while Logan longs to give in to his desire of letting go of control. The sexual tension between these two is intense.

And the spicy scenes… I love me some fighting foreplay and these two are pretty explosive together. I loved that we’re given time to savour Logan’s first time, in particular, to enjoy the battle for dominance and demand for submission. And I loved seeing how Logan falls into it so beautifully, though he’s not ready to fully submit yet…

Killian is open about who he is, the monster underneath, while Logan tries to hide his beast from the world. And I loved how Killian encourages him to embrace the beast, to be who he really is, to take what he really wants (though to be fair, it’s what Killian wants too!).

Yet despite Killian’s desire to own Logan, he doesn’t truly want to hurt him. He looks after his needs and is attentive to his darker desires. While I loved seeing both of them being vulnerable, seeing Killian open up was particularly what stood out to me. He surprised me with the little things he did – cooking for Logan, maintaining his father’s garden and rescuing birds – but I did really love seeing that side of him. And I loved seeing him discover that despite being a monster, he is able to love.

-----

Some of my favourite quotes

As they head on their way, I know I’m in trouble because after tonight, I’m more certain than ever that Logan Wilde is mine. To mark. To claim. To possess.

“You will submit to me, Logan. And you will like it.”

I’m intrigued, Logan Wilde. Intrigued. Excited. Aroused.

Logan is a bright fire of rage, and I’m the black smoke that needs to consume him.

Killian Lorde haunts me. Every word, every move he made, as though they were designed to be burned into my memory.

“Marrying me means I’m yours, just as you’re mine. I’m a servant to your every wish and desire.”

“You belong to me, and I will protect you with my everything.”

“Break me. Train me. Possess me,”

“I didn’t realize that just as soon as you surrendered to me, I too would utterly surrender to you.”

“You’re not on your own anymore. Your pain, your responsibilities, your duties...they’re all mine too. You never have to carry these alone again. Not as long as I’m here.”

This was fun OTT dark romance smut and it did it's job of distracting me during a slump ✌️☺️

I saw some people complaining about an F/M scene in the beginning of the book involving one of the MMCs and when I got to it, it was literally half a page with little to no description, so I don't get why people are pressed about it 🤷‍♀️

On the other hand, there is a good amount of feminization kink in this book and I didn't see it in the author's CW list so if that's something that bothers you, you might want to skip this one ⚠️

***ARC Review***

This is my honest and voluntary review.

Logan and Killian are at odds for most of this book and it really works for them. There is this constant push/pull dynamic between them. Both desire the other’s submission and refuse to give it. This story is dark and delicious. Killian is unapologetically psychopathic and I am 100% here for all of it. I loved everything about this book. From the prologue to the epilogue. The brothers are all great as well! My little mafia romance loving heart is elated to have read this book, and I am so pleased that McCormack is adding his voice to the genre.

The arranged marriage aspect in this book is divine, as is both of the MCs being mob bosses. It all really works and I could not bear to put this book down. I absolutely devoured it. There are some aspects of this book that may be triggering for some readers, so be sure to check out any content warnings prior to reading. Things that are big red flags in real life: the controlling behavior, the morally gray men, the dubcon - it all propels the story forward in a way that makes sense for the characters. So if you like your fictional characters dark and a little toxic, then this is the book for you!

There’s a lot of tension in this book. A lot of resistance and refusal to submit. But there’s also honesty and vulnerability. An openness and acceptance that I was not anticipating. It’s a thrilling and alluring read. The pacing is exquisite and the blooming connection, while begrudging, is really compelling. Logan and Killian’s chemistry is off the charts in this book. It’s even more satisfying when they can completely be themselves with one another. The HEA is hard won in this book but it’s so worth it!

Y’all. I love this book. You have to read it when it releases on June 4th! 🙌🏽🙌🏽

DNF at 60%. I have to be honest, I regret the time I spent reading this book. I enjoyed the duet with Riley Hart, but this one..... Oh my... Boring and repetitive. Zero chemistry between MCs, which are one dimensional and unlikable. Also I don't know how to describe it, but the language in which it's written is so simple, that it's almost childish. Definitely first and the last book of this author (as a solo author) I will ever read.

This felt weirdly robotic. Not a lot of feeling in the possessiveness, more just telling no showing.

Also, feminization in MM is not my jam. Plus the lack of lube in most scenes makes my ass hurt just thinking about.

Felt like a push to finish instead of enjoying it.

Do not read this book if arranged marriages between two mob bosses isn’t your thing. If it is, jump in!!
Golden boy sunshine mob boss? Check!
Possessive, grumpy, psychopathic mob boss? Check!
Arranged marriage? Check!
Touch him and die vibes? Also check!
What Killian Lorde wants, he gets.
A Dark M/M romance with bite. If you like romances where the fighting and torture is foreplay, then this is the book for you.
Killian Lorde, Mob boss of the Lorde family and one of the most powerful crime bosses
Logan Wilde, mob boss of the Wilde family and under protection of Killian Lorde. Two strong-headed individuals who fight for dominance constantly but eventually learn to respect each other.
I really enjoyed this book! The plot was not what I expected, but not in a bad way. I feel like many kinds of mafia romances I’ve read follow the same ideas: a down on his luck regular guy meets a sexy mafia boss and romance ensues. Or a right hand man to the mafia boss who has feelings for said boss, but the boss either doesn’t know or avoids the topic. Two mafia bosses from different families though? Haven’t read it before and I gotta say, it might be my new favorite mafia romance trope. While enemies to lovers is probably my all time favorite trope overall, I don’t know that I would classify these two as enemies. Technically they’re allies, but I guess you don’t have to like your allies? They definitely don’t like each other at first and while the heat between them was there from the beginning, the feelings took a bit to appear. This book was definitely spicy! Whew! I had to fan my face once or twice and the spicy scenes were plentiful, as were other things… wink wink*. I went back through the book to write this review and every chapter I flipped to had a spicy scene, lol. If that’s not your thing, you may want to pass. But if it is your thing, then you shouldn’t be too disappointed. There was more than just spice though, there was an interesting plot with a slight twist that I wasn't expecting, but in retrospect makes quite a bit of sense. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and have already started a reread. I’m a big fan of Devon McCormack’s books, he has a way of writing that hits you in the feels and makes you not want to stop reading. Also, I would be remiss in not mentioning all of the brothers, I would love to see at least one or two of them get a book... pretty please?
There were some really great quotes that I liked, but this one really hit me in the feels, especially when you read the scene it's from:
“After he shared that with me, when he gazed into my eyes, I felt as though I saw him, really saw him, for the first time.
Something more beautiful than his flesh.
Something more compassionate than he would ever give himself credit for.
He’s not merely a monster. At least, not in the way he thinks”.

*********Potential spoiler*********

There is a scene in the beginning where one mc is “having fun” with a woman, and normally I don’t like cheating in any of my romance books (and I know technically this wasn’t cheating because they weren’t together yet), however, this one did lend some importance to the plot (hello possessiveness). Thankfully, it was such a short and kind of glossed over scene and it didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the book in any way.

Be aware of the content warnings as your mental health is important.

I received an ARC of this book and am happy to provide my honest review, so others can take a chance on this great book.

“He’s mine, and I would pity the man or woman who fell in love with him because I wouldn’t just end them, I would destroy them.”
^ Page 247.

Had higher hopes for this one. The blurb had me hooked but these men seem to think sex is the only right thing to do. They used the wrong head to think.

For example, one of Killian's enemies are on their way to attack 2 of Logan's younger brothers while they're in the process of torturing men for information. Their response? Send a "code red" text to the bodyguards, kill the men, then have sex together.

I also think it just kinda flopped? Like Logan starts off wanting to fuck every woman in sight, Killian sends his men to kidnap him temporarily. Logan says he's straight until he barely hesitates to suck Killian's dick a few chapters later. I know Logan didn't want the arrangement to end which is why he did it but this man barely had an issue with it once he started and if anything enjoyed himself. Also he's a natural pro at sucking dick for the first time.

And we spend the entire book waiting for their wedding to happen or them to sign papers but no they wait until 87% to get married.

We never find out Killian's age. We see Killian get attacked by one enemy despite them being a mafia. No mafia meetings. Logan's mafia is apparently tiny and has Killian running it. There's no real depth for running the mafia or anything. The overall plot just kinda flopped. Was hoping for more.

Also I'm willing to bet if this is going to be a series, Malaki gets a book where he dates a bodyguard or something.

ARC Review

Good fucking luck trying to convince me these two weren't obsessed with each other from the very beginning.

Because Logan spent this entire book saying, "I don't want him."
While immediately answering every phone call.
Thinking about him constantly.
Getting jealous.
Worrying about him.
Wanting his attention.
Seeking comfort from him.
And eventually realising that what he wanted wasn't freedom from Killian. It was to be captured by him.

The submission arc in this book was phenomenal because Logan didn't suddenly become someone else. He didn't stop being strong. He didn't stop being a leader. He simply found someone he trusted enough to submit to.

And Killian?
This man spent the entire book convinced he was incapable of love. Convinced he was a monster. Convinced that everything he wanted from Logan was selfish and cruel.
Meanwhile he's over here protecting him and his brothers, comforting him, supporting him, putting himself between Logan and danger, and literally taking a bullet for him.

Sir.
That IS love.
Literally.

The growth between Logan and Killian felt hard earned. Watching Killian realise that what he feels for Logan is actually love, while Logan learns to embrace what he truly wants, was everything I could have hoped for.

If you love mafia romance, arranged marriage, enemies-to-lovers, OTT jealous & possessive men, power struggles, emotional vulnerability, and two stubborn idiots desperately falling in love while pretending they aren't, this book delivers!

The writing felt surprisingly juvenile for two men who were supposed to be the heads of powerful mafia families. Given their positions, I expected a more sophisticated and commanding dialogue style. While I understand that M/M romance has become increasingly popular, I also found it difficult to believe that two traditional mafia families would expect their heirs to enter into a marriage arrangement with one another.

That said, the premise of a forced marriage between the leaders of rival families was intriguing, and I was curious to see how the story would develop.

The banter was occasionally entertaining, but I struggled to stay immersed because of the underwhelming dialogue and character voices. Additionally, when a book is heavily marketed around a marriage contract, I expect that plot point to happen much earlier. Waiting until the 82% mark felt far too late and made the pacing drag.

Unfortunately, this one just didn't work for me.

Organized crime romances are usually an easy win for me, and I don't mind a morally gray or even psychopathic MC. However, I need the romance to reveal a softer side and make me believe in the relationship. Unfortunately, that never happened here. Instead, I found myself increasingly uncomfortable and unconvinced by the romance.

The story also felt very repetitive. One MC spent most of the book denying his attraction while constantly obsessing over the other character, and after a while it felt like the same internal conflict was being repeated without much progression.

I also wasn't a fan of the frequent feminization of male anatomy, which is simply a personal reading preference.

Tim Paige gave a strong performance and did his best with the material, but the story itself ultimately wasn't for me.

2.75-ish.... finished it with some fair amount of skimming. This is one of those where the longer I sit with it, the more I'm like.... wtf just happened.... Was down for a mafia forced marriage sitch but the characters felt off. I usually really like this author and I really wanted to like this. But after the hundred something time I read the work "cunt" in a MM romance it started to get rough.

Also, having a gay sex life sans lube (of any kind) is.... yikes.

4.5 ⭐️

Two mafia heirs who form an alliance through marriage 💍

Logan really should have read what he was signing because, after putting his name on some documents at 17 while sitting at his father’s deathbed, ten years later Killian shows up to collect his “wifey” 😄

These are two dark souls: Logan, a beast constantly trying to control himself, and Killian, a monster who knows exactly who he is and has no problem showing it to the world.

Logan absolutely does not go willingly, so expect plenty of fighting, thrown punches, and drawn blood as foreplay 🩸

Somewhere along the way, Logan discovers he craves surrender more than he expected, while Killian wants nothing more than to own and control him. That doesn’t mean the journey is easy … or peaceful. 😉

What I loved most was that Killian actually has a soft side. It’s buried very deep, but it shows up in the little things: making breakfast, taking care of Logan, and proving that even monsters can be capable of love.

Of course, this monster discovers love in his own way… with just a little violence on the side.🖤

“You belong to me, and I will protect you with my everything.”

What happens when, as an emotional teenager determined to fulfill your father's dying wish and to protect your family, you sign a contract without reading it? (Even when your father tries to tell you to read it but you insist it's ok.)

Well ten years later, on your birthday, you end up with a psycho possessive husband, who no matter what will make you his husband or as he claims the contract states "his wife". And now he's ready to collect.

After all, he has a responsibility to uphold to, protecting both his family and yours as per their fathers wish.

The way the went from gunning for each other's jugular to:
“Did you miss me already?”
“Apparently you didn’t miss me at all.”

Oh my heart😩🥹❤️
I love how they're perfect to each. And the turn of events? Gosh I'm still stunned and in awe!

And if i wasn't sure that I'm into Pyscho-sunshine, possessive men.. KILLIAN LORDE has cemented that fact.

The book had a lot of potential which makes it more disappointing that it fell short for me. I could see where the story was headed and was excited about the direction it seemed to be going.

Unfortunately, it needed another round (or two) of editing. Timeline transitions were choppy, there a lot of awkward phrasing and broken English that didn’t seem intentional or character driven and the repetition became distracting. We really didn’t need to be reminded every few pages that Killian is a psychopath. Trust me, we got it.

There were also several casual mentions of psych meds throughout the book that I’m choosing to believe was an attempt at mental health representation and acknowledging treatment rather than using mental illness as a plot device. But it wasn't fully developed and instead came across as something randomly sprinkled in without much purpose.

I think the plot twist was great, unexpected and the strongest part of the book.

Overall, I can see the author’s vision, but the execution didn’t quite get there. With a bit more refinement and editing, this could have been a much stronger read.

this was a fun ott book with crazy plots. i thought the plot twist about their fathers was a bit random but alright. i liked the couple and the silliness of the mafia world in romance books will always entertain me - and the kinks aligned in what someone would expect from a mafia leader, i guess. no complaints from me in that area. but i kinda wish there was more push back from killian? like a dramatic moment where he would set logan free because he realized he loved him and didn't want him to suffer in a loveless marriage. i looove 3rd act breakups - i might be the only one - so i was hoping for more angst in that aspect. i wasn't expecting that when killian had his realizations that logan deserved better he would just realize he loved him and that was that - i wished there was more angst but overall i had a lot of fun.

Killian & Logan

I really enjoyed Killian and Logan's love story. It was hard-fought, deep, meaningful, and so satisfying in the end.

These two were such unique characters. The writing is so good, but the dialogue? That was probably my favorite part. It felt fresh, natural, and engaging.

There's actually a note I made while reading, only a few chapters in, that simply says: I'm so fucking excited.

And you know what?

I wasn't disappointed.

For me, this was just the right amount of dark and twisted. Toxic in the most delicious way. It was also sweet at times, and plenty spicy.

Dark mafia romance has always been one of my favorite genres, and this one absolutely delivers.

Devon McCormick did a phenomenal job with Betrothed in Fury.

Well done.

I love every single book I’ve read from Devon but this one.. this one was my absolute favorite. I could not put it down no matter what. It had me in an emotional chokehold and I loved every minute of it. Killian and Logan, these two fought each other for a majority of the book but when they each gave in it was glorious. It was everything you could want and more.

In general I like this author... or used to like him.
But so many of his books start with a detailed mf sex scene, which is just a big NO for me.
I just skipped it here, because the premise intrigued me.
Unfortunately there were so many gross descriptions of "seed in his belly", feminisation of body parts, and constantly calling on MC "wife", that all I felt while listening was nausea.
I guess this will be my last book of the author, because I really don't want to spend money on feeling uncomfortable.

DNF

This book said “arranged marriage” and then spent almost 70% of its pages proving that marriage was apparently just a suggestion. I kept waiting for the arranged marriage part to actually happen.

The feminization kink in MM romance is also definitely not for me. Every time it showed up I was fighting for my life through the secondhand embarrassment. Some of the dialogues made me cringe so hard I had to put the book down for a minute. I felt like I was trapped in a loop.
