A solid continuation of the previous volume, this time for the most part taking place in Japan with Itami being called back as a witness to the Diet together with his friends from the new world. Of course, major foreign powers (most notable the USA) try to use the situation to their advantage, but everybody underestimates Itami and Rory with unexpected consequences.
It is a solid story, a bit too rose coloured about Japan's army, but that is nothing new. I like the characters and plot for the most part even if I feel the CIA is acting a bit foolishly. It comes with the usual cringe (such as the 900 year old Rory, looking like a 14-year old with all that comes with it even if her speech at the Diet is classic for a reason) and a bit of info dumping, but that is part and parcel of light novels.
All in all, a good popcorn read as long as you don't mind some of the typical anime tropes (and to be fair, I have read more severe versions of them) so much like expected.
