Hades and Persephone get a modern, romantic reimagining in Lore Olympus, a gorgeously illustrated, Eisner Award-winning comic—now including a never-before-seen bonus short story!
“The Mortal Realm—it’s dying.”
After years of yearning, the big day has finally arrived: Hades and Persephone are getting married! It’s the ceremony of the century, and practically all the gods are invited to celebrate the happy couple. The wedding, full of love and joy, provides a much-needed respite for the pantheon . . . but the newlyweds have no time for a honeymoon.
The king and queen of the Underworld begin unprecedented dives into the dream world to find the god that Kronos took hostage—and, hopefully, to get answers on defeating the furious titan once and for all. During their explorations, they begin to suspect that Persephone’s powers over spring may have been altered. Their theory is proven correct with deadly consequences: When Persephone returns to the Mortal Realm, she ushers in not the regular change of seasons, but a never-ending winter.
And while the gods worry about the total annihilation of the Mortal Realm, Apollo uses the chaos as cover for an attempt to kill Zeus. He claims his dying father’s throne and decrees that the only way to save the Mortal Realm is if Persephone—and her power—belong to him. The others reject his outrageous demand, proposing instead that whoever can fix the failing seasons will be named interim ruler of Olympus. Hope now rests with the struggling goddess to find a way to stop the treacherous Apollo and save humankind—or else be separated from Hades forever.

"IF EYES COULD EAT, LORE OLYMPUS WOULD BE A FEAST." —NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW
I read this for free on webtoons but I will end up buying a physical copy because the art is gorgeous. 😍
Honestly these ratings are purely based on vibes. I'm writing these reviews after finishing the entire webtoon so it's hard to pinpoint specific plots and I noted the ratings whilst reading. The story is so good I love the modern spins and twists on greek mythology and their story.
some flaws became really apparent as the series dragged on. also the art and outfits got worse? i wonder if this was a victim of its own success and the creator was under certain pressures and time constraints.
“No matter what, I will find my way back to you. If there is water, I will build a ship. If our love is forgotten then I will fall in love with you all over again. If I must live as a mortal I will die in your arms and return in your arms and return home to you once more. No matter what Erebus, the Fates, or the universe have planned for us, I will find my way back to you."
i’m actually so sad that i can’t do some witchcraft and get a hades for myself
I binged this series and my sleep schedule suffered - fair warning. I kicked my feet and giggled, I threw my phone in anger (at a certain purple man), and Icried in my room at 3a.m. All in all a pretty eventful time, great art, amazing use of colour (I am itching to do a study), would 100% recommend.
I finished it back on webtoon and, well, what can I say... I was disappointed. The ending feels rushed, there are many loose ends left or just sloppy one sentence explanations. Because of all that... about 80% of the chapters throughout the series feel completely unnecessary, just dragging it all out. And I hate when stories are being dragged out just to squeeze more out of the fans.
The wedding!!! Honestly loved this book, but wish the wedding was longer, feel that we moved past it so quickly! Love the rest of the characters in this volume, especially Hera. I know it’s all building towards to end , but just want Hades and Penelope to enjoy themselves!
Omg! I love this so much! I always enjoy this series so much! I absolutely HATE Apollo! He’s sooooo skeezy! And I do feel like someone else is pulling the ropes behind him…. I am really looking forward to the next installment in a couple of months because I really need more!!!!!
Gorgeous as always although I’d forgotten that she’d made Demeter, Hestia and Hera daughters of Metis instead of Rhea to avoid having incest in the story but it felt a bit silly seeing as they’re deities and there’s already so many other problematic aspects to the figures already. Anyway baby Dionysus was a treat, it’s a shame I don’t think we’ll see him grown and interacting with like Hermes or Ares as the next volume is the last one. As I mentioned in my reading update for this volume, the last chapter I read as the series was coming to a close is in the last 140 pages of this volume which is why I genuinely don’t know how it’s going to end and I kinda like that. Also the fact that the covers for the the last two volumes are in Rachel’s new art style is pretty fun, they look gorgeous
I read this on Webtoon. I had to guess when the volumes were divided up.
What I think will be volume 10: 233-253 (mid season finale)
Something about hades and persephone just seems forced. “Sweetie”??? Talk about a 0-100 relationship!
I think this is when the comic started to get very popular. The plot seems to drag in order to get longer episodes. But there are also increasing spelling errors
There is so much happening in this section to amplify the stakes. So many big plot points and many little ones that were started long ago. I want to keep up with artemis! She was such a big character in the beginning and now she’s barely in it
- Hera has been talking with kronos - get married!! Demeter watches from the outside - Zeus once told Demeter she could be queen of the gods - Hades is interested in looking into people’s previously dreamed dreams - Hermes learns of Apollo and Persephone - Go into persephone’s dreams to go into kronos’s - persephone speaks with erebos (the one who planted the pomegranate). And clings onto seeing baby hades - Take a blood sample and then persephone acts weird… i know they only had sex last night but seems a little odd… - Hephaestus’s AI goes to work for hades - Persephone has a CHILD??? - zeus let a preemie baby grow in his thigh - Persephone becomes a bad-ass confrontational person. Is this what was taken from her? - Retrieve thanatos from mortal realm. Approached by demeter - Artemis is rommates with hermes(?). Asks him for advice regarding apollo - Persephone and demeter go to therapy - Hestia helps hera with kronos - Apollo uses kassandra because she can see a prophecy - Persephone opens up about apollo!! - Apollo is trying person zeus with an herb that poisoned kronos - Spring ceremony! Hades and demeter make up?? - Persephone’s powers are strange. The prophecy star tells apollo she is a danger to the human race because she is bound to the underworld. Is THIS what was taken from her? Her ability to create spring?? - Apollo is following directions from krono’s father!!
Lore Olympus Vol 10 continues to prove why I’m absolutely obsessed with this series.
As I’ve said in my previous reviews, one of this series’ greatest strengths is its ability to balance mythology, romance, humor, and heartbreak while keeping the characters feeling incredibly human. Volume 10 continues that trend and may be one of the most emotionally intense installments yet.
At this point, Lore Olympus has me in a chokehold. This volume is packed with emotional moments, relationship drama, and the kind of tension that makes it impossible to stop reading.
What I continue to love most about this series is how much I care about the characters. Hades and Persephone had me completely invested, and I found myself rooting for them through every obstacle thrown their way. The supporting cast also continues to add so much depth to the story, even when they’re making me want to scream.
The artwork remains one of my favorite parts of the series. Every page is gorgeous, and the colors and expressions carry so much emotion that some scenes hit even harder than the dialogue.
This volume felt heavier than some of the earlier ones, but in the best way. The stakes keep rising, the emotions keep building, and every chapter left me needing just one more.
With the story racing toward its conclusion, I’m more invested than ever and cannot wait to see how everything comes together in October.
I highly anticipated book for me, so much so I've done a complete reread of the nine previous volumes, I absolutely love the Lore Olympus graphic novels, they are beautiful illustrated and the retelling of Hades and Persephone is one of my favourites.
In this volume Hades and Persephone finally get married, surrounded by majority of those who they love and care for, but soon things go wrong for them all, with Persephone struggling with her powers and then something happens with Zeus where all gods could be affected by the result, while this is all going on we are still following the other side stories of the other gods and their life's, with Hera being of focus with everything she is facing with Kronos.
If your looking for a gorgeous illustrated graphic novel with Greek mythology, then look no further, be warn there is a few trigger warning with subjects that are reference through these, otherwise these will always be a firm favourite for me and now to await till later in the year for volume 11 to find out what happens next.
DISCLAIMER: I paid to read the series on webtoon (paid for no wait) so that is why I’m reviewing before the physical book is out.
I love this series. I made the mistake of reading them all at once and reviewing them after instead of reviewing in between finishing them, so my reviews may be a bit skewed.
Honestly, this volume was pretty underwhelming, which I hate to say as a fan of the series. A lot of the events that happened like persephone’s coronation and the wedding felt really rushed and didn’t have the time they deserved. I’m a big lover of slow burn, but it felt like it was being put off and then suddenly last minute we rushed through that really important moment every reader was excited for. It kind of made me think “ok well that happened” instead of what the other volumes built it up to be. Also the return of Kronos was really lazy to me sadly. I felt that it wasn’t interesting for him to be a villain in the story twice, and I felt that both Kronos encounters could’ve been consolidated to one to make a big climax instead of having him comeback twice.

I still like this series very much, but I would say I enjoyed this installment less than the last couple of tomes. I found the previous ones to be very well balanced overall, whereas this one seemed so heavy on psychology (therapy) that it did not feel authentic. In certain sections, it was almost caricatural.
I love self-help and am very sensitive to this kind of narrative, but here it felt somewhat forced, to the point where it broke my immersion. That being said, I’m still very invested in the plot and think the series overall is amazing and unique.
Second read: place holder for Volume Eleven [to be announced & published] (5⭐️) ➡️This was an incredible ending to the series. I loved that all the loose ends were tied up and all of the trauma (generational and otherwise) was addressed in some way or another.
***Counting Volume Ten as Episode 234-253 and Volume Eleven as 254-280 (end) [I’m guessing V. Ten is roughly 400 pages and V. Eleven is around 440]
