Dracula (Dark Horse) #3
Dracula Book 3: The Count
Not yet published
Expected 20 Oct 26Dracula arrives in London with plans to take over the city with bloody terror, and right away begins to pursue wealth and blood alike. But his peculiar customs won’t go unnoticed by the people of London for long.
Following the massive success of Book One-The Impaler and Book Two: The Brides, Matt Wagner and Kelley Jones continue their story between the lines of Dracula in this third graphic novel volume!
“One of the distinctive aspects of Stoker’s original novel is that it’s epistolary…told exclusively in the form of journal entries, letters of correspondence and news articles. The only voice missing from these various narrations is the most crucial one of all…Dracula himself! So our version of these events is narrated by Dracula himself…from inside the mind of an unrepentant monster. As Kelley said, this volume was the most challenging in regards to accuracy as the events of the original novel are well-recorded, analyzed and annotated. And Kelley has absolutely brought his A+ game to this narrative. If you thought his work of BOOKS I & II was spectacular, wait’ll you see how he brings Dracula to live (er…undeath) on the foggy streets of Victorian London! I’ll say it again…this is the story that Kelley Jones was born to draw! And I’m the lucky bastard who got to write it!”
This 136-page graphic novel explores Dracula’s first weeks in London and his plot to rule the city from the inside out, no matter how much bloodshed it takes.

The count is as intelligent and strategic as he is brutal

The 3rd book in Wagner and Kelley's graphic adaptation of the original story by Bram Stoker provides a glimpse into what the Count was up to during his time in London, and done so from Dracula's perspective. Given that we don't know much about what Dracula was doing outside of the accounts of Mina, Van Helsing, and the other heroes, this story provides a fresh take on the classic tale while remaining true to its source.
Pre-published copy obtained because I support the Kickstarter campaign for this series.

Expands on Dracula's time in England mostly glossing over the events of the novel. I like how Wagner tangentially tied in Jack the Ripper. Kelley Jones's artwork was made for comics like this. I got to the end and was pleasantly surprised to see they are working on a fourth volume. I thought for sure this would end with the end of the novel.

I just got this book in the mail from last year’s Kickstarter Campaign and Wagner, Jones, and Villarrubia knock it out of the park again! I love that this is interweaved into the events of the novel Dracula. We finally find out what He was up to during all those letters, and the historical events being included were also a fun addition. Can’t wait for the final volume!

This entry connects the Count to various historical moments, which is cool. The pacing is great, the story fulfilling, and Jones art is good (it looks like he was rushed in some places because of the lack of detail that he usually includes).

My favorite volume in this series so far, The Count hews closely to the source material while ingeniously filling in gaps in intriguing ways. I'll say this, though: Kelley Jones REALLY loves drawing himself some breasts.
