4.5 Stars! This book felt deeply relatable to my own experience growing up with learning challenges and navigating struggles in school. It strikes a thoughtful balance between sad, funny, and genuinely heartwarming moments. I especially appreciated learning about resources I didn’t realize were available to me at the time—like 504 and IEP plans, as well as the ability to carry accommodations into college. That realization was bittersweet: it made me feel for my younger self, but also hopeful for readers who can now benefit from this knowledge.

The inclusion of the Katey’s mother’s perspective was another standout. It offered meaningful insight into what my own parents may have been feeling during those years and added emotional depth.

I took off a half star for some repetitiveness and because I found myself wanting additional information. In particular, I would have enjoyed a further step by step exploration of the tools and supports available—not just in school, but how they carry into adulthood and professional life, and where challenges may still persist in that transition.

Overall, this is an important and impactful read. It offers both validation and guidance, making it especially valuable for young people facing similar struggles, as well as for parents trying to better understand and support their children in less-than-ideal learning environments.

Katey’s story feels both unique and widely shared at the same time. It made me laugh, cry, and begin to process experiences from my own past that I hadn’t fully worked through. The vulnerability in this book is powerful, and her genuine heart comes through clearly on every page.
