I found Skinny Dipping in Cane River an easy to read and captivating book. Not only was the storyline familiar to me in some ways, it was really brought to life by taking place in a familiar territory. I look forward to reading more by Ms. Phylis Caskey.

So Julian James heads back to his hometown of Natchitoches, La. He is traveling with his brother and carrying an urn under his arm. He is troubled by Hyperkinetic Memory Syndrome. This is where a smell, a sight, etc. can have him relive an previous experience like he is there all over again. Sometimes he has trouble distinguishing between the now and the past.

When he returns, he travels back into his nightmare: the summer that his father seemingly killed himself. The story takes you through his struggle to find out what really happened to his dad.

The story was pretty good. The flavor of La. was good. What bothered me was that we never found out why he and his brother were back, and there was a time when his brother seems to step out of character. (lying to Priss)

If there weren't those 2 clunkers, I would have given this 4 stars.

Terrific read! Phylis Caskey's debut novel, Skinny Dipping in Cane River, swept me back to a 1960s Louisiana college town. Mystery, family and coming-of-age drama captivated me from the beginning. The author drew me into every scene with remarkable ease, keeping me in suspense until the very end. I am so looking forward to more from Phylis Caskey!

Five star winner

This is a winner! A great plot with great prose. A southern charm with a damn good mystery. This book from the male point of view is different and I liked that! I liked it alot. I am an avid reader with a knowledge of a good book and Phylis Caskey is a winner here. Sure would make a great film!?
