Into the Black Spruce

Lost in the Alaskan wilderness. Pursued by a vicious serial killer.

When Jack moves to the Alaskan countryside to work as a wilderness park ranger, he hopes to leave his problems behind him. But he quickly finds that his past cannot stay buried. When a mission to rescue a lost hiker goes terribly wrong, he and his co-worker find themselves stranded in the Alaskan outback, pursued by something far more dangerous than the unforgiving backcountry.

Just OK

Love the concept and the book started out pretty well but it became obvious that the author does not do much research. I am able to grant a literary license, I mean I love Star Wars and other fiction, but at some point the story needs to be believable. I was trained by backcountry rangers in the sierras, the author clearly has never been with any. I just kept shaking my head through most of the backcountry segments, almost didn't finish.

Alaska Wilderness. Lost Hikers. Killer on the loose. What the can you ask for?

This story borders on a 4-star rating, but in being honest — 3 stars makes more sense.

The tale most features 2 young Park Rangers, their supervisors, the rescue of a lost woman hiker, and a psycho killer who may or may not have been terrorizing the Wilderness for years. Do you want to believe that premise?

The Author tries to keep the unfolding story realistic, to some degree, with the good guys and gals having their fair share of problems and injuries. Yet, the bad guy seems to miraculously survive nearly all of the associated rides thrown at him. All of which is possible. But is it likely? And, do you want to believe it???

My recommendation is sure, grab this book to read … just don’t get your hopes up that it makes a lot of sense in how it’s laid out.

Riveting story

Very riveting story. Kept you on your toes. I highly recommend this book. New Author for me. Mental health awareness is very important to everyone. Don't think you are alone in your struggle

Gripping

One of those rare books I couldn't put down lots of twists and turns even at the end I didn't see that coming an excellent read

I'm sorry to say that, to me, the writing was so basic and bland. I expected so much more, but it was really boring, with a dull premise and a predictable plot.

Did Not Finish

saw this on the recommendation tab on KU. Premise seemed interesting but the writing felt bleak and stilted.

“Jack had developed a romantic interest in Tara. She was attracted to him as well…”

not great but not bad

The story was good but not developed enough with either the protagonist or the antagonist. The ending was a little off also.

Suspenseful

I couldn’t stop reading! I’ve been to Alaska and can’t imagine making it out of the forests and mountains alone. Captivating story
