A young cowboy trying to make his mark in the world. A horse determined to never trust a man again. With work to do they must develop trust in each other, but trust is hard to earn.
Randall Dale grew up in a ranching family. No stranger to long days in the saddle, Randall draws heavily on his experiences to bring a new breed of western novels. He is a graduate of The University of Arizona and while there was a member of the rodeo and livestock judging teams. He is a past Arizona Champion of the United States Team Roping Championships and continues to compete when time permits. Randall is a devoted family man and a successful businessman with a flair for writing, and an interest in all things western. He currently lives in rural Southeastern Arizona with his wife. They enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren.
(Pardner) by Randall Dale is an old-fashioned western cowboy tale set in modern times. However, it is not your typical rodeo western or even a tale about a man who is all hat. Our hero is an honest, hard working young cowboy who has seen more cattle than most men his age have seen hamburgers. Herding cattle, riding fences, and roping stubborn steers are daily occurrences for this young man. Becoming a horseman is just a tool of his trade until he meets a half-wild, half-starved, all-stubborn horse that is more than a match for his skills.
As our young cowboy grows into being a man, with all of the romantic trials, financial challenges, and physical injuries that entails, he and his horse learn to work together and become a team. A team where the sum of their parts is greater than the whole and their success individually depends on their success as partners.
Dale has given us more than a typical good vs. evil melodrama, but a real depiction of the spark of life, the growing pains, and the daily trials of a modern day cowboy with such authenticity and depth that we know this man and his horse are real.
So refreshing to read a story free from violence. Well written cowboy story about an adolescent boy who moves to a new town and feels very awkward. He spends his lonely afternoons at the feedlot dreaming of becoming a cowboy. Absorbing all he can, he soon befriends the 'real' cowboys and earns their trust and respect. Ricky remains honest to himself and others, works hard to hone his cowboy skills, and perseveres despite his own doubt and life's trials.
Per FTC rules, I received this book free via Goodreads.com
I loved this book! Right from the beginning it really pulls you in and keeps your attention through the whole thing. I loved the characters and really felt like I knew them. I found myself thinking about them through out the day and wanted the story to continue even after I'd finished the book. The author does an excellent job of telling the story in a clear and direct manner. I would definitely recommend reading this book. You will not regret it.
A great family story about a hard-working young man and the horse he loves. Excellent story for any horse lovers out there, or anyone who wants to read a quiet,non-violent story about some good folks who work to make a life they can enjoy. I enjoyed reading this and intend to check for the rest of this series.
I won this book on Goodreads. It is a clean cowby story about a boy growing up, getting married finding his way in the world. His strong work ethic gets him a job on a ranch and his work with horses helps him along the way.
This may be a horse novel, but it is also so much more. This book is about trusting, friendships, honesty, family, and growth. There were only a few terms about horses that I didn't know, so don't let that stop you from reading this book.
I found it to be slow and the writing style just didn't seem to flow very well at times. A few times I thought about giving up on finishing the book. Toward the end of the book when they moved to a ranch I felt like I completely missed part of the book. I don't think I skipped any pages but I don't know how it got to that happening. As much as I love a good horse story, I'll be passing on the rest of this series.
This is by far the Best series of books i have read in a long time!!! Please read this series, you will not be disappointed!!!! The families involved with the storyline are so involved with each other, they fit so well together!! Ricky and Jessie start it all!!! And they finish the series, too bad that she didn't get to know that she didn't have to be sorry about hating V!!!
A really nice read, this book is for everyone young and old. If you own a horse, love horses or like me don't have anything to do with horses. Your sure to enjoy this book and the best part it does not end there, I am starting on book 2 right now.
I'm not a horse person. For me, nothing happened (unless you want to count the number of times a horse bucked) for way too long. It probably resonates with horse lovers, but not "western" fans.
I normally don't read Western novels but this story has a horse and I read anything about horses. I've read a lot of horse stories but this one is unusual. All the characters are fully developed and I wouldn't mind calling anyone in this story, with a few exceptions, "friend" if they really existed
Ricky moved to a new town and with in a week his mother had made his dream come true when she showed no where the feed lot was. He had always wanted to be a cowboy and now he had the chance to meet some real cowboys. He made his first friend there and that man went on to take Ricky under his wing and to guide his natural gift with horses to make him the best horse trainer around.
Loved this book keeping me interested in a realistic life struggle and learning experience of the importance of dedication to friends and those you love
No Indians. No shoot-outs. No stagecoach or bank robberies. But cowboys that catch, break, and ride horses. Cowboys that ranch cattle. Cowboys with happy families. Good read
RD. has penned a western adventure story that takes place in modern day New Mexico and West Texas. A young man grows up learns to be a cowboy- bronc rider. He trains a horse which allies him to accept ranch hand jobs. After he marries he is forced to sell his horse for his new family. After everything settles down with the wife and new baby he has to buy another horse. He buys a black horse. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Definitely five stars! I love horses and stories about their loyalty. They are such loyal animals. They are gentle giants when treated properly. Here's the story of one such horse. I had a hard time putting it down and am anxious to read more about Partner!
What a good book this is. No sex, no violence, good editing (not perfect, but good). Anyone who loves horses, or just the idea of horses, will get enjoyment from reading this book. Loved it.
A really good read with ranching, romance, cows, horses and a special relationship with a special horse. Twists and turns and an unexpected tension to keep It interesting. I do recommend it.
As a horsewoman, I found this book to be completely engaging. Like a mix between Black Beauty and the Black Stallion set in the contemporary west. Well done, Mr. Dale!
A modern western story about a man's loves of his family, his horse, working on ranches. I would recommend this book for the story about his horse. Kindle-Free-Freebooksy
