Rolfing: Reestablishing the Natural Alignment and Structural Integration of the Human Body for Vitality and Well-Being

Rate this book
This seminal work made its debut in 1977, and it has since remained the most important reference for Rolfers around the world. In this new edition, the late Dr. Rolf illustrates her theory and practice of Structural Integration, which brings the body into alignment and balance by manipulation of the connective tissue. Rolfing has helped thousands of people to stand taller, look better, move with greater ease, and have a greater sense of vitality and well-being. This is the original and classic text, with more than 600 illustrations and photographs. An indispensible reference for the hundreds of Rolfers in this country, it will also appeal to other professional bodyworkers and the interested lay person.

As a practitioner of Structural Integration (a.k.a. Rolfing), I only read this book six years after graduating and practising, and in a way I am glad I waited so long. The ideas of our intellectual ancestor are carefully-thought-out, detailed and precise, and sometimes difficult for the beginner. It is so well-written, though, that a layperson, a student or a mew graduate will walk away from this book with a sense of wonder at the potential of our technique, but it is the fledgling practitioner, with a handful of series under his belt, who will really be blown away by seeing so many of the hints we get about what underlies our technique, laid out in a cogent, profound, and systematic way.

Fantastic book, a gold-mine of inspiration and thought-provoking insight. Cannot recommend this highly enough, and especially to bodyworkers wondering if there is anything to this “rolfing stuff”.
