They call her Mamselle Perfidia as in the song. Fans flock to see beautiful Sophie dance in Paris at the home of the Bluebell Girls. Dressers at the Lido wind pearls in her hair and clothe her in delicate lingerie. The patrons sing when she strolls into the spotlight and whisper her name. In auction they pay thousands of dollars for a Perfidia trademark Teddy Bear and a kiss from her soft lips. Wherever she goes she’s recognised, feted and adored. With no place to hide, especially from the four men who claim to love her, Sophie seeks refuge, as did her mother before her, in Virginia, the Old Mill, that shimmering Hall of Mirrors, where shadows linger, and where the Past, and the Present, remain undecided.
Another well deserved 5 stars for Hamilton.. what a fantastically tangled story she has woven.. I must admit parts absolutely devastated me as I was so invested in the characters lives and I love how she stays true to them throughout. Everything is well thought out and reads smoothly whilst engrossing the reader. Loved it.
I liked the continuing story from before and the idea of 'guardian Angels', and the various psychic aspects.. A kind of family saga, which I like. I enjoyed it.
Brilliant! A Masterpiece! I bought Perfidia while I was on the last page of A Second Chance- the book prior to this one- which I highly encourage you to read first. The characters are so interesting that I did not want a minute to go by without continuing with their lives in Perfidia. But let it be known that both of these books are complete stories on their own. Perfidia is a story with complex characters and how the love for a woman affects their lives and their choices. The Vietnam era is a major part of the story, but this is not a "war story" as such, although I think male readers will really relate to Ms. Hamilton's military knowledge, particularly the Navy SEALS. The story is about obsession, love, and integrity on various types of levels. Ms. Hamilton also has a unique way of bringing spirituality and intuition into her stories- a "Sixth Sense" to the characters. One can't help but contemplate one's own intuition, choices and the flow of Life. I highly recommend this book as well as A Second Chance. Buy the two together.
