Being judged for every single action she does and whether she is good enough for Jake, things become a little rough for Kate and she starts questioning her self worth and even her relationship with Jake. Is their love worth it all?
Jake was always looking out for Kate. Definitely a golden retriever and I was all for it.
He had his moments where I got utterly pissed at him.
His love for Kate was beautiful.
He literally tried to do anything and everything to make her happy. She really was the center of his world. 😭❤️
I didn’t expect to get so emotional throughout this one but I did, I just got so caught up in how Kate was feeling. She went through the ringer 💯
Watching her journey to find herself, putting herself out into the world, I loved it all.
I got really emotional in chapter 47. The whole situation with her father, it really got me.
Those two had some hot moments 🥵 allll over that tour bus and everywhere else they went. I was dying for the pure romantic chemistry.
Not many side characters but I did love Chelsi. Her smart mouth, she was so damn protective of her best friend Kate. I wish we had more of her ❤️❤️
Overall a fun read, a little long for my liking and I did feel some parts were a little repetitive. But I still enjoyed myself and it was so different than anything I’ve picked up lately.

This book is the second of the series, continuing Jake and Kate’s journey together but now on the road for the tour! I enjoyed watching them grow and struggle through everything this put them through. It felt very realistic on how it would affect someone’s lives together during a tour and with a celebrity status. There was one moment toward the end on how well she handles something that I did not feel was super realistic, and I definitely would not have handled it that way. Overall I loved the spice and relationships.

Jake and Kate are back as best friends after a 15-year gap, and now as lovers. Interestingly, the tension comes not because of their commitment to other, but from Jake's alter ego as a huge rock star. Touring, commitments and label demands are nothing to the Internet firestorms they are forced to navigate. While super spicy, the characters and their issues are the real reason this story works. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Jake, you still have my heart. I kinda fell in lurve with Jake in Practically Perfect. He only solidified his spot on the book boyfriend shelf in Lost in the Neon Lights.
This is book 2, so you'd need to have read book 1 to get what is going on here. Quick recap: Jake and Kate were childhood bffs, Jake took off and started a successful music career in Nashville. He basically cut Kate off, stopped returning texts etc. His mom dies in book 1, bringing him home. He and Kate reconnect and end up together.
Lost in the Neon Lights is the continuation of their story. They are on solid footing as a couple, aren't public with their relationship yet as Kate is very private, and they are enjoying their love bubble. Jake is ready to tell the world and marry her, but Kate is a little more gun shy.
What I loved:
*Jake was unapologetically all-in. He stood up to his team, letting them know time with Kate was a priority.
*He was OTT affectionate and thoughtful to her.
*The mouth on this man...shew
*Kate tried very hard to navigate having a very public relationship
*Kate really stood up for herself, eventually. Her mom is the worst and with Jake's support, she was able to voice her own wants, and talk back to her mom a little bit.
This is a story of navigating love and incorporating someone into your life. Kate and Jake lead very different lives. He's a famous country musician, and she's just a normal chick. Once their relationship is public, her employer really wants to milk that status and puts her on more projects. I did get a bit annoyed here, b/c Kate took it on, not voicing that it wasn't something she could do. One of the reasons it got on my nerves is Jake was being very intentional about making sure he carved time out of his extremely busy day, making his team change things up, as a way to show Kate she is a priority. Kate didn't really seem to appreciate that, and when it came time for her to make him a priority, I felt like she didn't b/c she was hellbent on "being independent and having a career." Listen, I'm all for independent women, but expecting Jake to make her priority #1, then putting her own career first...seemed a bit hypocritical.
Also, part of this story involved Kate, well, Jake, finding Kate's dad. I felt bad for her when she finally connected with him b/c he was a total asshole.
There isn't really OW drama. Kate decides not to see Jake for a couple of weeks because she is "so busy" with work, he feels abandoned by her, misses her, and indulges in drinking too much. Jimmy, one of his band members, has some chicks backstage, and one girl is hot for Jake. She follows him around, even sits on his lap, and, of course, photos are taken and circulate, making it look like Jake was cheating on Kate. Once Kate sees them, she is devastated and rightly so. I was super pissed at Jake. I've been in Kate's shoes with this one.
He did apologize, got on a private jet to get to her to tell her what really happened. He admits he should have just gone back to bed and not partied with everyone. He takes responsibility, and he doesn't put the blame on Kate. This storyline had me up way past my bedtime, and my heart was beating so fast that my Apple watch sent me a notification. LOL
Also, I should add in here that because of their breakup in book one, Jake is slightly paranoid that Kate is going to decide he's not worth it. That being with him is too hard. It is good for his songwriting, but I felt bad for him. Of course, they don't talk about it until the picture thing happens...I did feel like they avoided tough conversations with sex.
I really liked this one, moreso because there wasn't a third act break up! I loved it, and I can't wait for her friend's book, which is next.

Lost in the Neon Lights by Stephanie Riley completely swept me away. 🤍
I picked this up expecting a friends-to-lovers romance, but it ended up being one of those books that quietly breaks your heart before putting it back together again.
Jake and Kate's story felt so real.
They're not just falling in love—they're figuring out what it means to love each other when fame, public opinion, and constant scrutiny are suddenly part of the relationship. I loved that this book didn't romanticize celebrity life. It showed how isolating it can be for the people standing beside the spotlight.
Kate was so easy to love. She never wanted fame or attention—she simply wanted the man she'd always loved. Watching her struggle with losing her privacy while trying not to lose herself was heartbreaking, and I found myself rooting for her from the very beginning.
And Jake... 😭

I was ridiculously excited to be back with Kate and Jake, and this book reminded me exactly why they’ve become one of my favourite comfort couples.
The dual POV is such a strength of the series. Watching Jake fall harder and harder for Kate was lovely, but it also made the more difficult moments incredibly frustrating. I spent parts of the book wanting to shake Kate, and later felt exactly the same about Jake. They both make mistakes, but their flaws make them feel believable rather than frustrating for the sake of drama.
The author promised more spice and she absolutely wasn't exaggerating. The chemistry between them is fantastic, though I really appreciated that the story eventually digs beneath the attraction and forces them to confront the issues they’ve been avoiding. Their relationship feels messy, complicated and all the more compelling because of it.
Kate’s storyline with her dad genuinely broke my heart. I thought it was handled with so much honesty. Not every relationship gets a tidy resolution and not every goodbye comes with closure. Sometimes life is abrupt and disappointing, and this book wasn’t afraid to show that.
I’m so relieved Kate and Jake are properly together by the end, but I’m also sulking a bit because I wanted so much more from them. Two books simply wasn’t enough. I’d happily read another hundred pages of these two figuring out married life.
Now I’m turning my attention to Chelsi. I already think she’s going to be a brilliant FMC, I have theories about her romance, and I’m desperately hoping Kate and Jake still play a big part in her story.

I’m so relieved Kate and Jake are properly together by the end, but I’m also sulking a bit because I wanted so much more from them. Two books simply wasn’t enough. I’d happily read another hundred pages of these two figuring out married life.
Now I’m turning my attention to Chelsi. I already think she’s going to be a brilliant FMC, I have theories about her romance, and I’m desperately hoping Kate and Jake still play a big part in her story.

Both Kate and Jake were likeable characters, and I found myself invested in their journey as they tried to balance love with the demands of Jake's career. The romance had plenty of tender moments alongside the more difficult challenges they faced. While some aspects of the story followed familiar contemporary romance beats, the emotional depth of the characters kept me engaged throughout. An enjoyable read.

I can’t get over how much Jake is a total golden retriever. He’s constantly showing Kate how much she means to him and how badly he wants their relationship to work. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a country artist either—that’s definitely a bonus. 👀
My heart hurts for Kate. Her parents have done so much damage to the way she views and treats herself. I found myself wishing she’d push back more against her mom instead of allowing Jake to stand up for her. It also made me wonder how Judy and Kate’s mom ever became friends. Judy seemed so easygoing and full of life, while Kate’s mom just felt negative and draining.
I’m really hoping Chelsi ends up with Alex because he sounds like an absolute keeper. The fact that he genuinely thinks she’s funny makes me love them even more. I could totally see Chelsi pursuing something in fashion—it feels like the perfect fit and could be exactly what she needs.
Jimmy and Jason are bad news. That’s it. That’s the review. And honestly, I hope Jake fires Jason for being such an asshole.
Most importantly, I need more Jake and Kate. I have to see the wedding, the kids, and everything in between. I’m way too invested in their happily-ever-after now.

3.75/5...This book leans hard into the emotional chaos of sudden fame and relationship pressure, and that part actually works well. Kate’s life flipping from private to public feels intense and often frustrating in a way that’s believable, especially with how quickly everyone around her turns into an opinion machine. Jake as the protective partner is written with a lot of devotion, but at times it tips into feeling more like “idealized rock/country star boyfriend” than a fully grounded person. The dynamic between them has chemistry, and there are moments where their history as childhood best friends comes through in a way that feels real and lived-in. Where the book starts to wobble is the spice content. The intimate scenes are frequent and often feel like they’re inserted to maintain heat rather than actually developing the relationship or escalating emotional stakes. Instead of enhancing tension, they sometimes interrupt it, especially during moments where the external conflict (media scrutiny, loss of privacy, public pressure) is already carrying strong momentum. It feels like the balance could’ve leaned more into emotional intimacy rather than defaulting so often to physical escalation. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time reading this book! I didn't even realise it was the second book in this series about these two characters, but it took me on a ride I was happy to be on. Instantly, I was grabbed and read it in one sitting because I just needed to know what would happen next, and I was also dreading the horrid possibility of 3rd act break up scene, but thankfully it didn't happen. I really enjoyed this book. Essentially, the FMC and MMC are childhood friends to lovers; they start dating, and it's essentially her being thrust into his life as a rockstar celebrity, and what it revolves around, and the things she will need to accommodate that comes with being with him, and she also sets her boundaries. I liked that throughout, Jake was pretty devoted to Kate, even if sometimes the insecurity would get the better of Kate. Their chemistry felt real, but I do wish Jake had more realism in terms of moments of selfishness, wishing Kate would a little more understand, as I would have found that more relatable, but that's just me in my interpretation. I also loved Kate’s best friend, Chelsi and can't wait to read her book.

Kate, in this one iskind of center of attraction for everyone, all lens are on her and getting judged for everything she does is one hell of a ride 😶🌫️ during these situations I can relate to her when she lost confidence in herself, when she questioned everything and everyone and especially jake and his love for her....watching her journey overall did a good number one me ❤️🔥

I was super excited for this book since practically perfect. This is book 2 in the unexpected love series, and it kicked butt just like the first.
This was about Kate and jake childhood friends. Jake was a country music star and his whole world was Kate. The media did find out about their relationship and did scrutinize her, and she started to question herself. Yet Jake the amazing man he was always reassures her she's his and perfect. He did have his moments where I wanted to scream but he got it together.
This was an emotional read like the first was and I ate it up. I am glad Kate with Jakes help was able to stand up to her mom because she was a real witch to Kate and she didn't deserve that.

I don’t often find myself wanting to take my time with reading a book, as I am more or less a thriller girl and just want to get to the end to find out what happens. But honestly, this (and practically perfect) both left me wanting to read and reread this story numerous times. I was left conflicted solely from wanting to savor my time reading this and wanting to finish to see what was next. I cannot sing enough praises to Stephanie for this book series and am super excited to see what comes next in the series for Chelsi. If I had anything else to say, it would be to have a novella after this regarding life with Jake and Kate now and how their wedding went!!

This book was so good I couldn’t put it down. After reading the first book I was so ready for more of Jake & Kate and Stephanie sure delivered. We saw the raw & emotional side of their relationship when going public to the entire world while also getting a ton of intimate scenes that truly delivered. Jake showing up for Kate when things went bad was SO GOOD, that man had a plane chartered to get to her !!!!!!! I could honestly read 10 more books about these 2 and it would never be enough because I truly LOVED THEM.

4.5/5. Wow! Just wow! I loved getting to continue the story of Jake and Kate, and all of the ups and downs. I found the miscommunications to be realistic, something that kept me engaged in the story and continuing to root for them. The characters were mature, and the writing was strong. While there was spice, it added to the plot, and didn’t take away from it.
I am already dying for a third book though I’m not sure one is in the works. I want to just keep following Jake and Kate and see the incredible life they will build for themselves!

It was such a fun opportunity to read part two of Kate and Jake's story. In book 1 Practically Perfect, you learn about Kate and Jake and how they got together. In Lost in the Neon Lights, you get to see how Kate and Jake handle life together as they live very different lives. Kate is learning what it's like to live life on a tour bus with Jake and being thrust into the lime light. Can Kate handle this celebrity life while also having a job of her own back home?
I really enjoyed being able to see how Kate and Jake handled this experience together. Stephanie's writing is so fun and always has me wanting to come back for more!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book.
This is a continuation of a childhood friends to lovers story, detailing the continuation of their relationship, the difficulties of their different lives, and the fallout that can come from fame and social media.
The bulk of this story is the very human nature of Kate, and how she now fits in to the life of her Country Music star boyfriend, Jake, in particular, how his fans view her and how she know deals with that sudden spotlight. There are ups and downs in both of their lives, with both of their professional lives being effected. The ultimate highlight for me was Kate's best friend Chelsi, and i cannot wait for her book.

This book was so good. I loved hearing more about Jake and Kate. The spice was next level and we dove right in with that. Stephanie did a great job developing the characters more and helping us understand their motivation in a deeper way. I absolutely love this cinnamon roll MMC because he loves our Kate like she deserves. The conflict in this book was at times unpredictable and I love how the author set us up to see the main characters fall more in love. It was a great book. Cannot wait for Chelsi's story.

I really enjoyed continuing Jake and Kate’s story. It was easy to see how much they cared about each other, but watching them navigate a relationship in the spotlight added another layer to their story.
Jake completely won me over with how devoted he was and how hard he worked to make Kate a priority. There were definitely moments that made me frustrated for them, but I found myself rooting for them the whole time.
Overall, this was an emotional and enjoyable read with plenty of romance, drama, and heart.
