She found the perfect place to start over. But someone doesn't want her here.
Veterinarian Hadley Chase didn't come to Blue Ridge Hollow looking for anything except a fresh start. After living in Atlanta, the slower pace of a small mountain town feels like exactly what she needs. She never expected danger to shadow her.
Max Kincaid keeps his head down and his past where it belongs—behind him. Working at Refuge Cove suits him fine. But when trouble follows the new veterinarian home and the threats against her begin to escalate, walking away isn't something he's willing to do.
As danger closes in, Max will do whatever it takes to protect Hadley, even if it means confronting everything he's spent years trying to outrun.
Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
This latest addition to the Refuge Cove series grabbed my attention from the beginning and didn't let go until the end. Someone is targeting Hadley, who moved to Blue Ridge Hollow to open her veterinary practice, but the multiple attacks on her is making her second guess as to why she's there. Max has a haunted, checkered past but promises to help women who need protection. Protecting Honor is a great read with twists and turns, danger for both Max and Hadley, faith, and a villain who may or may not be as unsuspecting.
Author Christy Barritt's story Protecting Honor was filled with memories, familial love, protecting the innocent and honor. This story centered on a man whose life had been turned on its head. A truly suspenseful story that weaves the bond between the best of human beings, the animals they love and people who are protected from dangers of life. Honor, love, choices and lies are shared between these pages. The inequity of life has been demonstrated by the evil people can do one against another. Even the human mind can be destroyed while the heart can lie shattered after steady or even random abuse. One thing Barritt showed repeatedly throughout the pages is that characters can forge bonds of love, hope and forgiveness. Their goals may rest upon the opportunity to stay safe, feel love and to move on. But, faith requires peace and forgiveness as it opens the doors to the human heart. I loved this tale as Barritt wove the pathway forward to a new day. I gave Protecting Honor 5 out of 5 stars.
Now I have to wait for the next in the series! Christy Barritt’s books are always a good read! The story of Hannah and Max left me wanting more of their story! I can’t wait to see what Rowan’s story will be!
Even though I had a strong suspicion about who the true antagonist was, this was such a great read. This series has been entertaining and I'm looking forward to meeting another member of the King Clan!
I did receive this copy from the author, but was under no obligation to write a review. I'll share more opinions soon, but for now, I'd say, check it out!
3.5 stars "You were choosing what mattered . . . That's what honor looks like."
When a resident of Refuge Cove disappears into the night after a close encounter with her violent husband, Max Kincaid offers his assistance to the local sheriff in the search to find her. His attention is already divided though, there's a lovely new vet in town, whose steady presence at the Cove's dog shelter during the birth of six new puppies has precipitated a spark of attraction, but after his recent break-up with another employee, the timing may not be right.
Veterinarian Hadley Chase loves her new home in Blue Ridge Hollow, but instead of thriving, her practice is experiencing what seems like a rash of targeted attacks. Her only consolation is how helpful Max Kincaid has been, she feels safe whenever Max is around and his commitment to finding out the truth is reassuring. When a seed of doubt about him is planted from an unknown source, Hadley is ready to give Max the benefit of the doubt, but tragically it may be too little, too late.
A thrilling new addition to the Refuge Cove series.
Have you ever started reading a book and couldn't put it down? This is one of those books. In the latest book in the Refuge Cove series, the new vet, Hadley Chase has recently moved here and loves the small town life after her previous big town practice. When it appears that someone is targeting her, Max Kincaid feels the need to protect her. He feels guilty that he wasn't able to protect someone in the past so he has decided to help anyone that needs it. As they try to discover the person responsible, the attacks become more and more dangerous. Can they discover the culprit before it is too late? Even though this is part of a series, it is a stand alone read. I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.
In this exciting novel in the Refuge Cove suspense series, Veterinarian Hadley Chase is targeted by someone trying to get rid of her. Max Kincaid comes to her aid as they try to thwart the attempts to harm her. The increasing tension and danger keep readers’ attention riveted on the page as they race through the story to learn who is guilty and if everything will turn out all right. The author’s books always include challenges to relationships as well as to lives, with plenty of action and suspense. I recommend the whole series, but each book can stand alone. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
I love this Refuge Cove series. I love the characters and the stories. This story was so good. Christy does an amazing job and having chaos and intrigue intertwined with a little bit of love. This story had bad things happening one right after the other and trying to figure out what was happening and who was responsible was a great part of the story. The way this family looks out for each other and keeps Jesus as their center is inspiring. No matter what is happening they know that Jesus will be there with them. This story and this series is definitely worth reading!
Book #4 of the Refuge Cove series did NOT disappoint. A checkered past, an abusive husband, and someone bent on revenge all come together in a story of twists and turns you won't see coming. Add in faith, forgiveness and romance, and you've got the perfect book that I didn't want to put down. *I received this book as an advance copy, these opinions and reviews are my own with no commitment to the author and/or publisher
I had a BETA copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Veterinarian Hadley Chase moved to Blue Ridge Hollow for a new start, but someone is targeting her making her rethink her decision. Max Kincaid has a troubling past, but feels responsible for Hadley’s safety. This is a great addition to this series, and a captivating book full of suspense, while addressing issues of trust, relationships, and protection from harm.
Refuge Cove is exactly that. A refuge for abused women. Their protection is a privilege that they must not abuse. The characters unfold in their own ways and they can only see through their actions. This story is filled with suspense, thrill, honor, pasts that haunt, and relationships. It’s a little bit crazy how a person who feels rejected can cause so much damage. It’s definitely a nail biter!
Max and Hayley hit it off, neither was ready for it, but who has a choice in the grand scheme of things. Mix that with a very delusional ex and the mystery begins. Strange things begin to happen and the plot thickens. Christy Barritt has a knack for making the possible become the impossible and you keep looking for clues to find its the most unsuspecting turn of events. Makes it hard to put down just what I like in a book.
This book had my full attention in the first chapter. I still can’t figure out why it took so long for others not figure out the “bad guy/gal” earlier in the book. I was watching 20/20 on TV as I was reading this book. I am telling you I got so confused trying to read this book and the people on 20/20. I finally had to do one or the other. The book won. You will not be able to put the book down.
The author has done it again! I love the continuance of previous characters and the development of new characters. I was pulled in from the beginning and could not put the book down. I was totally wrong in who I thought the culprits were! I love dogs, a good suspense, and have a heart for abused women, so this series is right up my alley. Can't wait to read the next one!
Nature's given her readers another good selection in her Refuge Cove series. Hadley the local vet spends time at the ranch helping with the dogs. Juno gives birth to the puppies. She and others are pleased that They will have puppies to sell.Hadley begins to have problems with her practice and it's a mystery as what is happening and who is causing all the trouble.
Protecting Honor hooked me from page 1 and kept me glued to the story. Max and Hadley both had their share of mistakes, regrets, and hardships. Together they found acceptance, forgiveness, family support, and love. Unfortunately, it didn’t come without danger. I loved this story and found this book heard to put down. It has a great mix of suspense, romance, and emotion. I’ve enjoyed all the books in this series and look forward to the next one.
I just love the Refuge Cove Series! The family feels like family and the setting is wonderful. Now if we could just keep those murderers and other criminals away! I guess then we might not have as great a story. Max and Hadley’s story is gripping with so much drama surrounding exes and should be exes. It’s a great read!
When Max & Hadley "discovered" each other , a triangle formed that neither of them had foreseen. Kendra, his short term girlfriend determined that he belonged to her and no other. Chaos ensued, tangled up with Lyndee and Kenny's malfunctioning relationship. Read to find out all these entanglements get straightened out.
I’m absolutely loving this series. I have read most of Christy Barritt’s books. And I’ve absolutely loved them all. Can’t wait to read the next installment in this series. You just fall in love with all the characters , and of course, the precious fur babies ! Definitely 5+ stars !
Christy Barritt has struck gold again! Her skill at creating lovable characters, infusing Christian romance and keeping you cliff hanging at every chapter is second to none! You won't be disappointed! I was given a copy of this by the author, but it is all my opinion!
Here's another worthy edition to the Refuge Cove series. Faith, family and friends who work against evil in the Smokies earn the right for enjoyable reading and hopefully a visit to the actual mountains.
I received a copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
This was wonderfully written like all of Christy Barritt's books. This a great series and really am enjoying reading all the books in this series. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
If you’ve been following the characters of Refuge Cove this is the story of Hadley (the vet) & Max (the maintenance/care taker @ Refuge Cove) - you’ll discover how their stories overlap - intrigue & mystery abound - enjoy!
Even though I figured out this mystery from the very beginning, I still really enjoyed watching it play out. I really like both Hadley and Max’s characters and their backstory. This definitely goes on my list of Barritt favorites!
This book was really well done. It kept me guessing who was behind all the things going on. I was caught up in it right away. This whole series has been good so far.
Great character development that encourages us to be people who love one another. Forgiveness is essential. We must guard against oppression, and face truth without taking responsibility for the actions of others. A very good read.
This book was exactly what I hoped it would be. The characters of Refuge Cove were still there and any new ones just fit right on in. Just like life itself! Thank you Christy Barritt. I'm looking forward to finding out about Rowen.
The women's refuge hiding behind the appearance of a dog refuge, is central to this fast moving romance mystery. I loved the main characters and twists and turns. Hard to put this book down.
Great story! Both Max and Hadley has things happen in the past that made them wary. Can they overcome their misgivings and what will it take them to get there.
