I am a scientist by training, but a writer at heart. I have always loved reading with a passion and turned my hand to fanfiction a few years ago. I write stories similar to the ones I enjoy reading. They are interesting but light, romantic but not steamy. I am a super fan of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, and have been having a wonderful time writing P&P variations, exploring how new circumstances affect the beloved characters. So far I have published two novel-length Pride and Prejudice variations plus one short story via Amazon. My books include ‘I am Jael’ and ‘The Blind Will See’.
Mrs Bennett, the daughter of a Viscount with lots of debt, has a poor first marriage to a wealthy merchant, who dies during her first pregnancy. She quietly moves to Hertfordshire to avoid her spendthrift father, meets Mr Bennett, and remarries. He already has Jane by his late wife, and Mrs Bennett has Elizabeth, who has noble connections and a fortune left to her by her late father, but this information is kept quiet. Mr and Mrs Bennett have three more daughters, and are good and loving parents. The Bingleys and Darcy come to Netherfield at the usual time, along with Darcy's two sisters who become good friends to Elizabeth and some of her sisters. When Elizabeth is approaching her majority, she learns that she has a large fortune, and a decision is made for Jane and Elizabeth to have a season in London. By this time Darcy has strong feelings for Elizabeth, as does Bingley for Jane. They follow the Bennett girls to London to continue their pursuit.
I like this author. As is usual with her books there's a lot of religious references, which is fine, except in this one it seemed a bit heavy and contrived. I like the way the Wickham character is treated, and also appreciate versions in which the Bennett parents are not dysfunctional. Darcy's proposal to Elizabeth is thankfully wonderful, and he's as swoon worthy as ever. The book is well written and well edited. I recommend it.
A Season for Elizabeth Bennet: An interesting group of “changes” give this story a different trajectory. I think the most remarkable is a rational Mrs Bennet who actually is concerned about the happiness of ALL her daughters. Taking place mostly in town with much focus on Elizabeth allowed for much social posturing and interactions with many other characters. It was satisfying to see so many good matches as well as much happiness many years in the future.
Darcy Sails After Her: Loved this variation! When the situation within the Bennett family changes, many other things are set in motion. I really enjoyed watching this love story unfold in the Caribbean. Descriptions of the sea voyage, life on the island and living conditions of all the residents was very rich. It was just so nice to see Darcy and Elizabeth as a married couple interacting with extended family despite disbelief about their marriage. I also found the extended epilogue very satisfying as it provided a snapshot into the life of Elizabeth, Darcy and their family 30 years into the future.
I do so love a Darcy who isn’t insulting, a Mrs Bennet who isn’t mad with nerves and a Wickham who is reformed. Some of the characters were far from the originals but I loved them that way.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. This is part of the ‘Pride and Prejudice Variation’ series. All books are standalone reads and can be read in any order. A sweet and clean, low angst variation where all of the Bennet sisters have happy endings, with a satisfying epilogue. Money cannot buy happiness, but it can buy a Season, and a with such competition, how will Mr. Darcy capture Elizabeth’s heart?

P.S. As a free bonus, this ebook contains the complete version of the author’s previously published novel, ‘Darcy Sails After Her’. You won’t be disappointed. My review for the bonus book is below.

This novel is a sweet and clean, low angst variation where all of the Bennet sisters have happy endings, with a satisfying epilogue. This is a re-release of the author’s novel 'Darcy Sails After Her', originally published in November of 2020. This story contains no violence against women. How far will Darcy go to save Elizabeth?
When Mr. Bennet unexpectedly dies, Mr. Collins takes over Longbourn, and Lady Catherine's schemes cause Elizabeth to flee in desperation. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy returns to Pemberley and discovers letters telling of the catastrophe that has devastated Elizabeth Bennet's life. He resolves to chase after the woman he loves to offer what assistance he can. Despite his own doubts, he longs to win her heart, even as another man seeks to marry Elizabeth by force. Darcy and Elizabeth find themselves on the adventure of a lifetime, as he casts aside his duty to pursue her. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.
This version of the story came with a copy of the author’s prior novel, Darcy Sails After Her. If you want adventure and a more daring story, borrow or purchase that one. This story has an interesting twist that it is Mrs. Annabelle Bennet who has the high standing and connections. She is the daughter of a dissolute viscount who sells her to a wealthy tradesman (Harper) as a bride for his son to raise the tradesman’s family in society, in exchange for funds to clear his gambling debts. The son dies after a few months of marriage, but leaves Annabelle pregnant with Elizabeth. Mr. Harper, once he heard that Annabelle was pregnant, set aside funds for the child. Once her husband died, Annabelle fled London to Meryton in order to hide from her father, who would find a way to take her child’s money and gamble it away like everything else. There, in Meryton, she meets Thomas Bennet, a widower with a very young daughter. They marry a year after and have three more daughters. Elizabeth is twenty when her mother advises her on her inheritance, which she will gain once she turns twenty one. Mrs. Bennet’s father, Viscount Langdon, had passed away six months prior so Elizabeth’s money is safe from him. However, Mrs. Bennet advises that her inheritance must be kept low-key to avoid fortune hunters. Also, she worries for all her daughters, based on her experiences in life. Mr. Bennet would not force any of his daughters to wed someone not of their choice, but unscrupulous men abound. She advises all her daughters to be careful. She also gets in touch with her cousin, the fifth Viscount Langdon, so that the connections of family can be re-established. Enter (stage right) the Bingleys and Darcy as per OP&P to stay at Netherfield. Therein, the story changes yet some things do stay as they did in JA’s novel. You will have to read for yourself to find out what. Wickham is not the same, Caroline Bingley and Lady Catherine are, and the scene changes from London
There are two books in this edition. A Season for Elizabeth is a sweet story. Laraba Kendig writes her P&P romances so beautifully and the content can be enjoyed by every one of any age. There are some nice changes where certain characters are entire different from what we are used to. Mrs Bennet (the second wife of a widowed Mr Bennet) is a good, loving mother to all the daughters of the household. This contributes greatly to the sweetness of the story.
The second book, Darcy Sails After Her is a truly wonderful tale. It is a hidden gem that will make every reader smile. There is so much love and devotion in this beautifully written romance. Following the death of Mr Bennet and the cruel and unscrupulous behaviour of Lady Catherine de Bourgh and her sychopantic parson, Elizabeth and Darcy find love when Darcy pursues Elizabeth who had fled to the Caribbean to escape a forced marriage to a horrible rake. THIS story is now one of my favourites by this author.
I really like Laraba Kendig's writing. Her story gave improved characters for almost everyone and was sweet and interesting. But there was no true antagonist. Yes there were a few minor challenges but they were resolved quickly and neatly. I kept waiting for something to happen but it never did. Even our typical villains; Caroline, Lady Catherine, Mr. Collins, and Wickam, were either reformed or handled without incident. The true antagonists which were the possible fortune hunters for Elizabeth's dowry danced and called on her but did not really press or hassel to any serious degree. No need for any interference there. She did get one inconvenient mariage proposal but it was from family and there was no harm done to either party. As for our couple, there was no real misunderstandings between them, only a little awkwardness. So this is why I gave 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 as typical of this author. Sorry.
Laraba Kendig has created yet another wonderful retelling of Pride and Prejudice, one in which Mrs Bennet is not the self-absorbed Fanny of the original version but the second wife of Mr Bennet, coming to her second marriage with Elizabeth and joining Mr Bennet with his Jane. Together they create a lovely (and sensible) family of five daughters. The discovery of Elizabeth’s wealth completely changes the story for all of the women. Again, a beautiful reimagining of our old favorite.
The addition of a second story in which Mr Bennet dies unexpectedly, leaving his impoverished family to find their way, was a fun bonus. Elizabeth must flee to the Caribbean to avoid being forced into marriage to a cruel and desperate nobleman. Darcy has to decide if he will chase after her. Another beautiful love story, in which the personalities of the Bennet family are identical to those in the original P&P.
Enjoyed the premise and the character adjustments. Mostly 4 stars because my phone wont allow me to do 4.5 stars. Some of the repetitive descriptions of opinions of various situations drug on too much for my liking.
Overall a sweet, quick read with an enjoyable amount of epilogue.
Katana Kendig always delivers. And it is always fin when she adds a bonus book at the end of her newest novel. A Season for Elizabeth was delightful. I have a fondness for “Elizabeth not a Bennet” stories, and this had an interesting turn, including a different Mrs Bennet.
Loved these characters Mrs Bennet is completely different from the original she is kind caring to all her daughters. Loved the story it was nice to read one that very little Mr Collins and Lady CdB. I loved that Fitzwilliam put her in her carriage after the wedding so she could not spoil it for the Darcy's
This was two books in one. The first, the new one was great. Wickham was reformed, Lady Catherine was hardly given any page time and I don’t remember any mention of Mr. Collins. The second book was one I read long ago and it was just as delightful as the first time.
I truly enjoy Laraba Kendig's books. They flow well, are easy to grasp, and are well written. Enjoy the adventure, but I prefer to choose whether I get one story or combined stories when I purchase.
Interesting. Elizabeth is not an official Bennett. Two widowers marry and create a beautiful family. Darcy has 2 sisters, making him much more amiable- while still being reserved. But they still fall for each other…
Ms. Kendig, to my mind, is the premier author in this P&P Variation genre. Her books are so well done, carry one right along (don’t plan on getting much done around the house) - highly reommend
