With their rugged good looks and Southern charm, it’s obvious why Cash Barlow and Sawyer Knight are America’s favorite baseball players. As the sports reporter sent to document their rise to fame, I was hoping our intimate interviews would catapult my career. Instead, I found myself being seduced…by both of them.
It’s not like they’re easy to resist. I’m spending every moment of the day with two hunky baseball gods polite enough to say “yes ma’am” and filthy enough to make me blush. And the more I study them – the more I notice the furtive glances and lingering touches – the more I realize that Cash and Sawyer aren’t only best friends. But when I promise to keep their secret, they reveal another of their own.
They don’t just want each other. And when these star baseball players want something, they get it. Including me.
But each time the three of us give into temptation, we’re breaking rules that threaten all of our careers. Should we risk it all for our unconventional love?
Or will this baseball season end with three broken hearts?

High Heat by Kathryn Nolan is a spicy contemporary MMF poly sports novella told from the first person perspective of Darcy, a sports reporter covering the ongoing story of two minor league baseball-playing best friends who were recently called up to the majors.
The story follows Darcy as she conducts a series of interviews with Cash and Sawyer, hoping to catapult my career as she documents their close friendship and rise to fame. Instead, she finds herself irresistibly attracted to them both and learns that there’s more than friendship between them.
I enjoyed Darcy, Cash, and Sawyer’s story. I didn’t feel quite as connected to them as I had hoped, but that’s often the case when I read novellas. High Heat is a fun, steamy short that delivers plenty of heat with heart.
“You see? You’ve already got him wrapped around your little finger and you don’t even know it. Because the second time I saw that look…was the first time he laid eyes on you.” 😍🥵
Kathryn’s novels are always some of my most anticipated reads, and High Heat did not disappoint. It’s such a quick, easy read with everything you could want. Competency kink? Check. Boyfriends with boyfriends? Check. Spicy? Absolutely. Sweet and romantic too? Check.
Honestly, just pick it up. You can devour this in one sitting, and it makes a perfect palate cleanser between heavier books. I’ve been in a reading slump for months, and this little MMF gem genuinely helped pull me out of it. I can’t recommend this enough.
Much like Darcy, I too feel fundamentally altered! High Heat may well be the most perfect title ever, but it still doesn't come close to encompassing the white hot flames of intimacy scorched onto these pages. I only wish I had read a print copy versus digital simply so I could pause to fan myself with the book between chapters. Please hydrate ya'll cause this one keeps you thirsty!!! I may never recover and I am more than fine with that. I am still a bit in awe that this IS a novella, cause there is just soooo much packed into these pages. Somehow light and easy, but with so much heartwarming depth. I could easily go on and on cause there is so much to love about it! This will be my go to "feel good and also like I wanna burn up a little" read.
Thanks to Kathryn Nolan for this review copy and this is my honest review.
Short novella of a reporter heroine and two baseball players that are secretly lovers already all falling in love in a big delicious sexy pot. Kathryn Nolan writes steaminess well that is without a doubt but also of people being unapologetically themselves and taking up space. There is definitely a 'glass half full' positive flair of the sports world but that's romance baby! And we all need this joy in our lives.
We can always be glass half full when thinking "I can do DP no problem at first go even though it's been a while since I've had a finger in there" Hot hot hot.
Darcy is a journalist who has the gift for spotting talent and potential in sports people and, in this case, the talented Cash and Sawyer. They have been inseparable since childhood, both as friends and more. When Darcy is given the task of writing about the pair for her paper, it is not just a dream come true for Darcy, but a moment in life where everything changes. This lovely, hot, quick read has been so much fun! The heat is high between these three, and they each have the ability to grasp the opportunity to make a life together. 💖💖💖💖
Fun summer read! If you’re a fan of steamy novellas, this one is for you! Cash and Sawyer are lifelong best friends and baseball teammates. Darcy is a reporter sent to cover their meteoric rise through the minors to the major leagues. As soon as the three meet, their undeniable chemistry leads to risky behavior that could cost them all their jobs. Of course, Kathryn Nolan imbues even the shortest story with enough heat to scorch your Kindle, and enough heart to make you sigh in happiness.
Hot & Heartfelt. This novella packs a sexy punch. Quick and steamy read centring on Darcy, Cash & Sawyer. Cash and Sawyer are the hottest pair in baseball and Darcy has been tasked with reporting on their rise to the Majors. Late nights and long road trips have them exploring a deep connection and what their love can look like in the wider world.
Beautifully crafted to celebrate love in its purest form. Kathryn Nolan has a talent for smashing so much heart and joy into their stories. Always left feeling happy and hopeful and wanting more.
Cash and Sawyer are the best of friends - both on and off the field. They come as a package deal, and when a reporter named Darcy puts all of her faith into these two, it pays off for all three of them. This is MMF spicy romance novella that brings the heat!
Baseball romance Players x reporter Best friends to lovers
These three are hot hot hot! I loved their connection from the very beginning and the way Cash and Sawyer brought her into the fold was both fun and spicy.
Thanks to the author and their team for sending me an ARC of this book. This was a quick, easy read. The only reason I rated it 3⭐ is because I think this novella would have benefited from being a longer novel. Every aspect of the characters and story had potential, but in this format it felt too rushed which made the story seem silly. I've read other worlks from this author and find her books enjoyable. This just felt like too much of a teaser and I would have preferred a time investment.
So much jammed packed in one excellent novella ;) I really enjoyed this story. It’s incredible how Kathryn got so much depth into the characters in so few pages. By the end, I felt like I knew them so well and I wanted so much more! The spice hit just right. Nothing cringey or over the top. This story busted me out of a reading slump. I'm not one to reread much, but this is one I know I'll be coming back to. I certainly won't be watching MLB games the same way!
No one could pack all heat plus all the feels in such a short novella.
Two hot baseball players with a secret love and one enamored reporter who has no idea they want her back. Kathryn provides all the heat while showing how love is love is love, and being with who you love despite how inconvenient or wrong it may seem to others is all that matters. Sinfully hot and kindle scorching, these three tugged at my heartstrings too and I ate this up in a day.
High Heat delivers. Kathryn Nolan’s writing style in this book paints the story as though it’s a painting. The story of Darcy, a reporter of a small newspaper and Cash and Sawyer, minor league soon to be major league baseball players is a love story. Is there heat? You bet. Is it steamy? Yep! More importantly, it’s a story of three coming together to build a loving, supportive family.
Perfectly spicy with a decent plot for a novella. Told through the fmc, Darcy's pov. She's a sports reporter working on a story about rookies Casha and Sawyer. Who are best friends from the same small town and played together since kids. There is an instant attraction between all of them. Soon it becomes too hard to fight those feelings.
This was a quick, fun baseball romp! It made you want more Darcy, Cash, and Sawyer. Pure escapism. Now if you are a baseball fan, the don't get lost in the details, just enjoy the feelings that the Author brings out from the page!
The story of Darcy, a reporter of a small newspaper and Cash and Sawyer, minor league soon to be major league baseball players is a short novella love story that packs a punch and will melt your kindles. A beautiful story with painful pasts, but bright and loving futures.
I wish it was longer... I loved this story of two small town boys who fell in love with each other and made it to the Major League of Baseball together and the female reporter who was everything they didn't know they were missing! It's very, very hot and I loved the characters!
This is the perfect little smexy snack to keep by your bedside. It's that blend of everything I love in a queer love story. Baseball (those pants), hidden desires, southern gentleman on the field and a bossy alpha in bed, along with all that tension. My only wish was for the book not to end.
I enjoyed this novella, it was definitely spicy!! I wish it was longer, I would have liked a bit more development of the love story instead of “love at first sight.” But I really loved the “live your truth, eff everybody else” message. Overall a fun and sexy story.
Kathryn Nolan's "High Heat" is a super steamy MMF novella! Get ready for two charming, hunky baseball players and the reporter they both want. The chemistry is undeniable, the spice is off the charts, and it’s a guaranteed HEA. Perfect for a quick, sexy escape!
I was so excited to be an ARC reader for this novella. Cash, Sawyer, and Darcy have a sweet love story with plenty of spice. I finished this in one sitting!
The title is most definitely spot on! 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Kathryn Nolan sure did not disappoint with this one...I only wish it was a novel instead of a novella The amount of representation was highly encouraging At first I didn't see the FMC fitting in however I was pleasantly surprised Thank you Kathryn Nolan for this ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily
I was part of the ARC team for this one, so I got a copy in exchange for an honest review and pointing out any lingering typos. Y'all, who care about a coma splice when you're reading this? All I can think of to describe it is Prince singing "You're filthy-cute and, baby, you know it" in "Cream". The story of two closeted but devoted lovers who meet a woman who feels like home. Each character is complete in themselves, with fully formed personalities, goals, desires, and dreams. Their love story is sweet and hot and comforting at the same time, like a very good cup of tea...with two sets of six packs and a whole lot of wish fulfillment thrown in! Take a couple hours out of your day and treat yourself!
What a fun novella, its a.spicy little number that didnt disappoint. Best friends Cash and Sawyer really bring the heat to win over Darcy. Darcy is all in and believes in these guys in all ways and it helps to build their relationship. The spice is spicing between these three and the chemistry between the guys was amazing. Its not always seen in MMF storys so it eas nice to actually feel and see they guys having feelings and a deep connection. This is a fun summer steamy read while giving just enough heart to belive in more for this trio.
Thank you to Kathryn Nolan for this ARC. These are my honest opinions and feelings.
Great story about two minor league baseball players who move up to the majors and an embedded reporter who falls for them and they fall right back! I love that Darcy is a sports reporter and she loves baseball. Cash and Sawyer are great, but wounded by family homophobia, which is really sad, but they all get an HEA.
