She and her husband RV, traveling to whitewater rivers to kayak all over the Southeast. Whitewater Kayaking is her very favorite sport, discovered when she was researching her (Gwen Hunter) mystery book, Rapid Descent. She took a lesson and—after a bout of panic attacks from fear of being upside down trapped in a boat—discovered she loved the sport.

Under all her pen names, she has more than 50 books, anthologies, and complications in print in 30 countries.
Some of these stories were published previously, but the true gift of this book is the last story, which gives us the origin of Nell’s people. Thank you for sharing these stories with us!
If you like the Jane Yellowrock series and stories set in that world, this one is a great one to pick up. I enjoyed all of them but the Magical School for Geezers. That one was so boring to me, that I didn't even finish it. Loved the one with Angie and Mud, felt bad for Jane and what happened with her wedding. Thinking Jane was right and things should have been done low key and on the fly.
The first 3 stories are really snippets about Mud and Angie. I enjoyed them but there’s a ways to go for either to have main character energy. Jane’s wedding made me happy but felt very cut off, as if the story wasn’t really over but finishing it would have ended up being a book. Which I would have loved 🥰
I tried really hard but wasn’t able to finish the geezer’s magic nursing home or the prehistory story about the plant woman. They started really slowly, I wasn’t drawn into the characters enough to want to continue.
I hadn't realized how much I'd missed Jane's world until I began reading the first story in this collection. I've rejoiced renewing acquai ntance with old friends; laughed; gasped; felt horrified; wept tears of joy, relief, and sorrow; and seen into the possible future of more books. Faith, my friend, thank you for giving me respite from today's reality and, from People of Trees, hope for our future in this world.
Faith Hunter Jas been a favorite of mine for a while now but this collection really did not work for me. The writing felt way off. The Angie Baby stories were pointless and contrived, repeatedly calling the kid "Angie Baby" got annoying, the tone was forced, like Hunter was trying to be clever and anything remotely sexual always sounded like it was being spoken by my maiden aunt. I was very disappointed.
This book is full of short stories that the author has written. Some from her emails and some brand new to readers. I love these kind of stories because its enough side stories or side characters you get to to see or get to know more of. This book was a must buy and must read and the author did not let me down. LOVED IT! Thanks for another great story.
I love the way that the Skinwalker series and the Soulwood series were interwoven! Im so excited to see how life with Angie and Evan evolves as they grow up.
Thank you Faith Hunter for weaving a world that is richly fascinating, beautiful, haunting, sweet, and sometimes terrifying.
The short stories of Faith Hunter are as intriguing as her novels. The character development is perhaps her greatest gift. Each of these stories is a charming universe of its own. So brew a cup of tea and find a quiet corner, settle in, a wonderful discovery is held in in your hands.
It was great to see Angie and mud growing up and revisiting the Everhart’s. It was nice to have another Jane yellow rock story and a nice origin story for now and mud. The stories I’d only read one of the old peoples schools for Magic and look forward to more of their stories
I love anything written by Faith Hunter. And this collection of stories is wonderful. I especially like reading about Angie Baby and Mud. And of course the last story about the trees. I highly recommend this book.
This book is connecting with old friends and meeting new ones. Like being wrapped in a warm blanket, drinking a hot cuppa. No one builds worlds like Faith Hunter. These stories were like being hugged tightly by long lost friends.
I was delighted to get complete versions of stories I'd read in the newsletter, as well as short works that help pull the series together. I'm always happy when "side characters" get their time in the spotlight, since a good series has a broad cast of characters worth caring about.
Unfortunately, though good ideas, the writing was not as good as her Jane Yellowrock and Junkyard Cat books. It seemed that editing was not as strict to enable good story flow.
So many hints into the origins!! Some I’d read before, some are new. All are gripping! This author puts such insight and detail into the telling! Great read!!
A great addition to the Jane Yellowrock and Soulwood world. Expanded short stories and newly published ones. Makes me want to reread all the series all over again!
This collection of stories and mini novels has something for both new readers and old readers. It was very satisfying to read about beloved characters from the long-running (but always entertaining and fascinating) Jane Yellowrock world and see some loose threads tied up, while new threads were unraveled. While the Jane Yellowrock series of novels has ended, there is still plenty of room for spin-off stories.
My favorite story was about some senior citizens placed in a special home/school for people finding magical skills later in life. Unfortunately there is a scam going on. Once again, life duplicates art.
