Some women always get it right. Kindergarten teacher, Meg Thompson, on the other hand, consistently makes the wrong decisions — and she is currently single, pregnant and alone. Meg is determined to make changes in her life, to be a better mother than her own had been. No revolving door of men. No man, period. Just a single-minded focus on her baby. Her resolution would be easier to keep if not for hot cop, Scott Dare. He insinuates himself in her life, making Meg want to believe in happily ever after, even if history has taught her to know better.
When Scott Dare hears Meg’s friends are determined she have a night of hot sex, before her life changes forever, he decides that man must be him. Their one night is mind blowing and life altering. And Scott, a man already burned by his ex-wife, finds himself all in anyway. While protecting Meg from her violent ex and becoming part of her increasingly complicated life, he’s falling hard and he can’t seem to find distance. Not when their bodies respond to each other with such heated intensity and he’s drawn to her unique combination of strength and vulnerability.
But Meg’s future is one Scott has accepted he’ll never have, even if his growing feelings say otherwise … (love story, contemporary romance, alpha heroes, beach reads, sports heroes, bad boys, billionaire)

I haven't read Carly Phillips in a long time. I read her Serendipity's Finest series and although it was good, I guess I just didn't understand all the hype. But I figured I'd give it another chance with this book!
I wasn't particularly enamored with Meg, the heroine. When women in romance novels "swear off men," it drives me nuts and I'm not totally sure why. I understand the feeling behind the statement/sentiment but I think it's kind of an immature thing to say. So I definitely didn't start off on the right foot with this character. I also dislike when a heroine thinks of asking for or accepting help as being dependent on others. If friends want to lend a hand, why not accept? The last straw for me and the point when I knew I'd have to quit the book was when Meg's abusive ex shows up, banging on her door and she doesn't think to call the police, even though she has a restraining order on him! I just couldn't handle any more. I was done.
Scott, the hero, was decent. I seemed like he was supposed to be a Dom maybe but other than being a bit bossy in the bedroom, he didn't seem all that different than any other cop in the books I've read. He's an alpha male, as most male cops are, so some Dominant traits are expected. Maybe the Dom part of him would have come out more if I had stayed on for more than the first 25% of the book but I just couldn't care enough.
I'll mention the Sexy Time, which was pretty hot, because it happens at the start of the book. It's unusual for Sexy Time to happen so soon. Meg's friends have taken her out on the town so that she can get a hook up before her pregnancy starts to show. Now, I don't know anyone who has friends that would take them out for that reason and to be honest, it seemed really weird and maybe a teensy bit sleazy. Needless to say, I didn't buy into it.
I didn't care for this book (obviously). I didn't feel that there was anything really unique about it (other than the pre-pregnancy hook up ruse) and nothing held my interest. The heroine bothered me from the get-go and I couldn't get over her stupidity and wimpiness. The hero had promise but I just couldn't stick it out to see. The hero and heroine have a bit of history (more than a little and less than a lot) and since I hadn't read any of the previous books, I had no idea about what had really transpired between them before this book. It made it feel like Insta-Love and I had a hard time swallowing that pill. Readers who already love Carly Phillips will probably enjoy this book but still, I would not start this series with THIS book.
From the start I’ve really enjoyed author Carly Phillips Dare series but as time has gone on I find myself more wrapped up in these books and enjoying them even more and in my opinion Dare To Hold is the best book in this series to date. I love that these two met under less than stellar circumstances in the last book and that the sparks were flying off of them even though Scott Dare was there to do a job and Meg Thompson was trying to figure out how her life had gotten so out of hand but most of all I loved that from the minute they met there was trust and they formed a bond that neither one could forget. Characters I would love to call friend, an interesting story of falling in love despite trying not to and of course nosy friends and siblings all make this one stellar story in the Dare series.
I flat out loved Scott Dare (sorry friends, I call dibs)! There’s something about a man who is so confident, so dominate, so alpha yet there’s an underlying sweetness about him that softens all of his maleness and makes you want to snuggle up good and tight. Sure he’s a tad overbearing and yes he has a tendency to act on other people’s behalf without their input but no one is perfect including Scott. He’s also not without some baggage that he know is an issue but he’s just not sure how to let it go and deal with the fact that over time he’s changed and what he wants out of life had changed as well.
I admire Meg Thompson for getting rid of her ex-boyfriend and baby daddy and not being weak and going along with what he thinks he has a right to demand. I love that she is a teacher and she puts the kids in her class and at her school first even when she knows it will be burden on her. I like that she realized she needed to stand on her own two feet and made changes in her life to do what was best for her and her unborn child but more than that I respect that she accepted the help that was offered because she knew it was the right thing to do for her safety.
These two have crazy chemistry and when Scott drives Meg home after he comes to her rescue at a club they decide on one night to get their attraction out of their system but instead find it hard to forget. A week later they become crazy involved in more than one way and the more time they spend together the more it is obvious they are headed into what could be dangerous territory for both of their hearts. I liked that both Scott and Meg were vulnerable but for different reasons, that over time they shared their pasts, their relationship woes, their family woes, and that while there was no denying they both enjoyed their sexy times there was more to their relationship than either one of them cared to admit. That’s not to say there weren’t some moments when they both did or said things that hurt the other or that they both didn’t have moments when they ran scared but they communicated really well and most of all they respected each other to understand what the other needed.
Sometimes characters just jump off the page at you and that’s exactly how I feel about Scott Dare but I also loved that he found someone to help him find that fairytales do come true. A love story between two people adamant about not needing love, but realizing that instead of running… it was time to Dare To Hold on to it and made this my favorite book in Carly Phillip’s Dare series.
Carly Phillips combines the perfect amount of heat, passion, drama and suspense in yet another daring adventure. I can’t pick which Dare brother I love most. Dominant, vulnerable and always loyal – Scott Dare lived up to every expectation I had.
Meg has the WORST luck ever in picking men. Ever since she fell in love with – and was then forced to move on from – Dylan Dare she’s only thrown herself at the bad boys who allow her to cling but who also suck up every single ounce of her generosity. Example numero uno: her baby daddy. OH, DID I FORGET TO TELL YOU – Meg’s pregnant. She’s single. She’s pregnant. and she’s determined to be ok on her own this time. She does not need a man. No, nope. She’s sure doesn’t.
Enter Scott Dare, the delicious specimen of a man who has his sights set of Meg. He knows that she’s pregnant and he could give a flying fuck. He looks into her eyes and connects. Scott and Meg are a force to be reckoned with. That passion that flies off these pages is totally Carly and purely HOT.
Scott says all the right things…until he doesn’t. Could I have wanted to kick him in the balls more? NO I COULD NOT HAVE. But of course, there are so many sweet and loving moments too where I think I swooned myself to death. GAH, so good.
There are plenty of Dare sibling cameos to satisfy your craving for what’s going on in that insanely huge and loving extended Dare family. And, most importantly, there are some amazing sex scenes that will have you needing a cold shower.
I can never get enough of Carly’s writing and I love that she always gives me a perfectly seasoned light and fun story that somehow she knows I crave. Love this one!
Received in exchange for a honest review. So far of all the Dare men and stories Scott is the one I love the most. I love how kind and patient he is with Meg. Meg has some issues with feeling insecure and needy. She also tends to fall for the wrong guy and than get in binds. After her last one she is alone and pregnant but he still bothers her. Scott has a attraction to Meg even though she is in a tough situation. He finds her to be smart, funny and strong but she isn’t allowing him to get close like he wants. Problem for him is his ex damaged his heart. She ripped it out and tore it up poor guy so he is a wee bit commitment shy. Although Meg makes him want to have more. Here we see Scott wiggle his way into Meg’s life and heart. THe banter between them is fun and keeps you on your toes and smiling. He is protective, kind and sweet with her. Sometimes his protectiveness goes a tad bit too far but it is because he loves her that this happens. Meg has som issues with his ways only beause she is afraid of needing him and that he will find her to be clingy. She doesn’t want to lose him like she almost did her best friend who is married to Scott’s sister Olivia. These two together are sizzling on the page with their intimacy to bad they have a issue when it comes to how they feel for each other. Scott is trying to not scare Meg and does do something silly when he gets caught in a moment of a memory and this has Meg faulter and pull away. Scott realizes what he does and is trying to get her to see him differently. Her ex is making for a dangerous situation and how that is resolved is just wow. Scott shows how much he loves her there but she still is apprehensive. I hated seeing her make that decision in the end. So glad when she finally came to her senses though for these two sweet kind characters belong together. Scott helps her feel safe and stronger. She is more confident and self assured when he is in her life. Scott feels more secure and trusting with Meg. She has him feel loved and wanted. His ideals are met with Meg. At first he was fearful of losing everything and held back but when he went full throttle it was swoony. the man will have you swoon. I was so glad he got to feel validated when his brother asked him to be his partner in business. I think this helped Scott feel like he was worthy and belonged somewhere. He felt more grounded and Meg helped this feeling intensify. I enjoyed the intensity of the situations while still getting that feeling of light fun and good banter between Scott and Meg. They buoyed one another and helped the other shine. this is the story of two people who were burned by love in the past coming together to find love and acceptance with each other. The adventure of Meg and Scott is sexy, daring and at times dangerous as they deal with the murky waters of exes, lingering feelings of inadequacy and distrust and wondering if the other loves them. This adventure will have you smile at the easy fit and banter between Scott and Meg, the playfulness of their relationship and how they come together and swoon at times over Scott’s ways. You will want more from this sweet couple and hopefully in the next Dare book we will see how they are doing for these two are by far my favourite.
I was lucky enough to get an early review copy of Dare to Hold thanks to both the author and the blog tour company. Carly Phillips has been an auto-buy author for me since I read her very first book. Since she has switched over to indie publishing, I'm so excited I get multiple new books from her a year.
I loved Dare to Hold and was so excited to see Scott Dare find love. I'll admit I was worried how a dominating Dare man would handle having the hots for a pregnant single woman, but Scott and Meg had an instant attraction in Dare to Touch and I wanted them to end up together from the moment they met.
Meg has had such horrible luck with men, and had pretty much given up on having a man in her life. However her attraction to Scott Dare hasn't gone away from the first moment they saw each other. Meg and Scott had such amazing and intense chemistry from the very beginning. While Scott was extremely protective of Meg, the heat level for the love scenes in Dare to Hold are off the charts hot.
The fact that Scott is a Dare and has issues not only because of his father, but also his ex-wife worried me until he started opening up and talking to Meg about what had happened. I just knew that Scott could get past those issues if he was willing to talk them out. Meg's ex Mike doesn't make their lives easy either. With his threats against Meg and the baby, Scott's protective instincts go on high alert. I love the bit of suspense that was mixed in with all the super sexy times.
I also loved that Meg became friends with Scott's sisters. She really didn't seem like she had enough real friends in her life and Olivia and Riley were so accepting and open with her from the very beginning and I think that help round out Meg's character a bit more.
I know I say this with each and every Carly Phillips book, but Dare to Hold is my current favorite book in the sereis. I've already read it 3 times and it has only made me more excited for the next book in the series. Carly Phillips does a great job setting up the next couple in the series without taking any of the limelight away from the current couple. Dare to Rock is currently set to be released in July and I can't wait to get Avery's story.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads
This is the 6th book in the series, and a long awaited storyline for me! I would recommend that you read them in order, as there is a lot of back story which would influence your views of the lead characters in this story, but you could enjoy it fresh too I am sure.
Scott Dare feels that he has been betrayed all his life, first by his father and then his wife. Now divorced, he holds back from getting hurt again. Meg, the teacher, who is now pregnant by her violent ex has also sworn off commitment, and is planning on going it alone... We have met these two at joint events before, and know that they have chemistry, but is the timing ever going to be right? Well, Ms Phillips finally gives the reader a story that is well worth the wait. It is not terribly angst laden, but it is full of passion, and hope. Great read ,and now I need my next Dare fix - handy there are so many of them that we are guaranteed a few more stories yet!
I love the Dare series and will always be one of my contemporary romance favorites. That said, I didn't love Scott and Meg's journey to love. They were multidimensional and well crafted yet they felt ill-suited for one another. Meg is trying to shed the clingy persona that she had for most of Dare to Touch and prove that she could stand on her own two feet. While I applauded her efforts to reinvent herself, the new her did not strong propel her into the likeable heroine category. I empathized for what she endured because of Mike but she just felt.....I don't know......bland. She never drew me into her character strongly. Scott was okay, too. Far from my favorite Dare but likable overall. I didn't like his hot/cold reactions to Meg. He wanted her but the vestiges of his selfish ex kept him keeping her at arms length. It took Olivia and Dylan confronting him for him to realize he loved her. The big strapping police office was clueless up to his profession of love for her. All-in-all, the story was a solid read and I'll definitely continue with the series. I am happy that their mother found happiness and hope to read more about her and her fiancé.
I finished this a few days ago and couldn't even remember who the characters were when I came back to review. Which basically says everything you need to know.
Dare to Hold is the sixth fabulous book in the Dare to Love series, a series that has consistently delivered one incredible book after another. From the very first paragraph, I was hooked, reading the entire book in one sitting. While each book in the series is loosely connected, they can easily be read as a stand-alone. It is fun to visit the world of the Dare's and check in with characters from previous stories. We were introduced to Meg in Dare to Touch when her boyfriend sent her to the hospital after losing his temper and hurting her. It was great to see her get her happily after, one she so deserved after all that she went through with her ex. Scott is so swoon-worthy in all his Alpha glory. I love that he was willing to step into Meg's life and give her his full heart, even with everything going on in her life. I adore reading anything from Carly Phillips, as you know you are always going to get a really great read, and Dare to Hold is no exception. I cannot wait to see where we are taken next in this series!
Scott is one of those people that have a demanding presence and he's bossy and has to have things his way in everything, "he nodded. “Rules. As in, you do as I say and you get to come. Often." He has standards and expectations and he has no problem sharing those with his woman, "because rumor has it you’re attracted to bad boys.” He braced his hands on her hips, lifted her up, and placed her on the counter, sliding his big body between her legs. A low hum of anticipation took up residence in her belly— and other places. “And I want you attracted to only me." Scott likes to give his woman compliments and praise her, "damn, baby. Do you have any idea what it does to me to see you on your knees like that." I love this series I hope it never ends this Dare men are alpha men and you can't help but love them.
I loved when we got a brief glimpse of the possibility if Scott and Meg in Olivia and Dylan's book. I was looking forward to reading their story and learning more about them. This book did not disappoint as far as my expectations were concerned. Scott steps in when Meg's friends decide she needs one last one night stand before settling into pregnancy and motherhood. After that one night, Scott takes over Meg's protection from her crazy ex-boyfriend. She agrees to the protection, but has no idea what else is going to be thrown at her before the saga with her ex ends. His parents and backstory are also thrown into the mix. I thought the book was very well written and couldn't wait to see how their story concluded. I also enjoyed the continuing story of Olivia and Dylan. I've enjoyed each Dare story, and this one was no exception.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
The Players: Meg Thompson, a kindergarden teacher who has a penchant for picking guys that she thinks she can change. Scott Dare, a police officer, with a baggage of his own.
The Story: Scott met Meg after her ex, and baby's father, beat her up. When he sees Meg out with friends being hit on by some random guy, he irks him. Meg is interested in Scott, but with her being pregnant she doesn't feel like its the right time to start a new relationship. But she didn't count on Scott's irresistable charms. Both Meg and Scott have demons to face before they can ever be happy but will Mike (the ex) and his threats push them together or pull them apart?
In a nutshell: hot, but lazy. The writing is technically correct but lacking in fluency. The plot is mildly interesting, but the resolution is rather a cop out. Dare to Hold is fine for a few hours light reading but not much more. 2.5 stars (more likeable characters than Dare to Desire).
Scott is so protective of the ones he loves, but nothing compared to his Alfa protection towards Meg! Meg is pregnant, alone and hiding out from her abusive boyfriend who is trying to eliminate her pregnancy. Scott and Meg are thrown into intense situations, even the strongest of Megs powers wouldn't keep Scott at bay. The whirlwind of emotions and events bring these two people together without them asking for it. A beautiful story to defiantly read.
Oh how I love the Dare siblings! Scott is no different. I love how protective he is of his loved ones. So when he met Meg and saw that she's was in trouble of course he was there for her. Meg is awesome. She's trying to be better and not count on others but of course Scott not going to let her go that easily. Scott and Meg were definitely meant to be. They both needed each other. So I was happy that they found each other. 💙
I loved this book. Beth has made bad choices, her ex is terrible. Can she count on Scott? Love how hot he is. He’s so good with her,and is very protective. But is he in for the long haul? She’s pregnant, and unsure of his long term intentions. Loved feeling connected with them and getting updates from other characters in this series. Really loved their happy ever after. I highly recommend this book.
Awesome read. Happy that with second chances love finds a way in. The Dare series is awesome enjoy the families dynamics, and couples. Add hot alpha makes who r overprotective, living and mix with love.
I loved seeing Scott and Meg get their happy ending :) there were times that i wanted to slap some sense into them both but at the end it all worked out .
With it being the run up to Christmas my brain doesn't have the bandwidth to deal with more complex stories right now but the neurospicy in me needs the distraction of something whilst I prep and wrap and do all the things ready for Christmas day. This series being available in the Audible Plus catalogue right now gives me what I need it to, something to have on in the background whilst I accomplish tasks. Is this the best story ever written? No. Are the characters deep and their connections complex and meaningful? Also, no. But is it entertaining enough to do what I need it to at this moment? Yep.
Well, this was disappointing. With this story revolving around a pregnant Meg when she meets Scott, i was expecting at least SOME cute pregnancy moments between them, and there were absolutely none. 🙄 Instead, there was some daytime tv soap opera drama with the ex, the MCs banging it out constantly, and zero emotional connection. Had I not needed something mindless to listen to to help focus my neurospicy brain to get tasks done, i would have DNF'd. 🌶🌶
Meg Thompson and Scott Dare made me laugh and cry. There's no denying that Meg's life is far from rainbows, but I kinda (and by kinda I mean 'oh hell yeah') like that Scott pushes his way into her life. His persistence, some might call dominance, causes flutters, laughter, and possibly some swooning.
“Touch her again and you’ll answer to me.” -- Scott Dare
I like that we get to see Scott's hurt from his first marriage and how that impacts the progress these two make. It's definitely sad. Please note that it may be triggering for some (termination of a pregnancy).
I borrowed the audio book this time. The narrator is Sophie Eastlake, whom I like. (Sorry, I've listened to six of her books in a few weeks' time and have momentarily run out of words.)
These are easy quick reads. It’s hard to go from a really well written book to these but I do enjoy her books from time to time. They are all very similar though. I’m wondering if at some point I just decide to move along to something else. I will say I have the box set of this series on audible and it’s narrated by Sophie Eastlake aka Julia Whalen so I will definitely finish this series.
This was a good read. Meg ends up pregnant but her ex is crazy. Scott is trying to help her. However, they decide to have a fling. Of course by the end they are in love for real. Luckily after they deal with some complications with her ex they are able to get their happy ending.
