Cash & Devin: Not Us book one

Rate this book
When that coworker becomes more than 'just a coworker'.

Meet Devin, a woman whose boundaries don't seem to matter to the one man they should. How many chances do you give to someone you promised forever to? How many times do you let someone knowingly and willingly hurt you before you walk away? What does starting over look like?

Meet Cash, a man with a heart of gold who is looking for the perfect woman. He happened to catch a glimpse of her at his friend's, and new boss's, office Christmas party. He's determined to meet the woman with the red hair in the green dress who stole his heart at first glance.

What happens when the two finally meet? Is Devin ready for love? Will Cash be willing to wait for her to heal from the hurt and trauma her ex left her with?

*This book is intended for those 18+ due to the themes presented, including but not limited to, graphic language and sexually explicit scenes, on-page cheating, and a golden retriever that falls for her first.

This book badly needed editing; the writing was so awkward and clunky and there were so many mistakes. For example, when Devin woke up in the hospital, Eddie told her that she had been unconscious for over 24 hours after she went into shock after the Xmas party. Yet, multiple characters kept referring to the party as happening “last night”.

Made my heart happy

After the initial horror of what Devin went through when Caleb cheated on her, I am so glad she found her HEA. I did also feel rather sorry for Caleb in the end and I was glad that he straightened himself out. This was a lovely (mostly) feel good story which left me sighing with happiness.

Cheating husband with a new H. This needs editing bad. While I liked the storyline there’s were so many inconsistencies that I just couldn’t enjoy it. Towards the end it definitely veered into the unbelievable as well. I originally read this on WP but now that it’s on kindle I was expecting it to be cleaned up a bit.

Some issues:
-h first shocked to find messages between husband and a coworker named Becky but then it mentioned that they had a conversation about boundaries with coworker Becky.
-how did Clint (the ex’s boss) half footage of the cheating immediately if the Christmas party was taking place at a rented house??
-on the balcony of Clint’s apt first Devin wrapped in a blanket then it’s Eddies (her brothers) jacket then it’s cash’s jacket
-her apartment is being sold next week then her apartment won’t sell because future buyers have heard about the ex hubby and crazy OW stopping by?? How?? on top of that there’s an ongoing investigation and somehow she doesn’t report to her friends or her lawyer that her ex-husband and his baby mama are harassing her??? But who knows if it was actually harassing because first she said that she’s had to call the cop 65 times and then she said that they’ve only stopped by twice. Also, she has a doorman. How were these people getting into the front door multiple times?
-somehow Eddie and cash are neighbors and Devin and cash’s secretary are neighbors. Are there only two apartments in the whole town they live in
-for how much random information I got in this book I still don’t know how long Devon and her ex-husband were together for. I just knew that they were only married for six months. Ages are also pretty vague.
-first Alex is Clint‘s ex and then later in the book Alex is Eddie’s ex
-Eddie didn’t like cash because he thought it was a player and then suddenly he’s helping Devin get ready for her date with him

I really liked this book! This is the second book I’ve read from this author (1st book was called ‘Trading Up’, which was also marriage in trouble; betrayal/on page cheating; OW drama and pregnancy; revenge; friends to lovers; and HEA for FMC with another man).
FMC – Devin
MMC (1) – Caleb
OW – Becky
MMC (2) – Cash

We start this book with Devin and Caleb, who have been married for 6 months, supportive families, and not a problem in the world until one of Caleb’s co-workers becomes ‘more than just a co-worker’.

Although Devin has repeatedly told Caleb that his relationship with Becky is crossing lines/boundaries, he brushes it off as no big deal. And, nothing physical happens in the beginning, but she's certain it's emotional affair territory.

Slowly, with a little help and encouragement from her (best) friends, she starts to put some pieces together. She is waiting to confront Caleb about texts, emails, and photo’s (she thinks they’ve only kissed at this point) when she hears Becky and Caleb having sex at Caleb’s work Christmas party!!!

She leaves before Caleb is ‘finished’ and says she doesn’t feel well.
This mofo then spends the night at the OW’s, not getting home until 5 am!

He has no idea that the wife knows everything at this point, and there are videos all over social media, going around, showing him having sex with the OW. He can’t get into his apartment, the locks are changed, and Devin is gone.

His mom phones him and this is when he first finds out what’s been going on. His mom is screaming and crying because Devin called and told her everything. Caleb tries to deny it but his mom is livid and not to deny it (because he was) and tells him there are videos out on the internet. And, how Devin heard him having sex with the OW last night at the Christmas party (they eventually get fired because of 'no fraternization policy)'.

Naturally, he falls apart. Devin is staying with friends and is proceeding with a divorce.

Then, he calls OW to say, wtf how did this happen?, and she tells him that she is pregnant (he says no, we just had sex last night, and then she tells him they had sex weeks ago when he was drunk and thought she was his wife).

He tries to get some clarity as he doesn’t believe this, but she basically tells him she sexually assaulted him (and she thinks they will be together!!!!).

He keeps refusing to sign the divorce papers, and after the baby is revealed, and he has to go through with filing SA charges against the OW (which Devin is called to testify as a witness and be publicly humiliated, again, about the affair) and then do DNA test to see if the baby is his (it is, and he tries to get fully custody), he realizes he will never get Devin back (she was not going to take him back anyway).

Devin meets a man at a friend’s ‘non Valentines’ party. He is hot and rich and is basically obsessed with her right away. He does a bunch of good deeds to show his care, and he is very respectful and patient about them dating for a while and doing the ‘mostly’ friends thing.

Caleb ends up getting full-custody of the baby and Becky goes to a mental hospital or jail or something. He doesn't date and forever regrets what he did.

The epilogue is 30 years later; Cash and Devin are still married with 3 children. She reflects on how the worst thing that every happened to her was followed by the best thing to ever happen to her.

Things I did not like:

There is a side plot that I don’t want to get into it except to say, there is OW drama on his end too. Not the same, but it’s there and Devin has to deal with it. It goes even further than this, building on one pointless storyline to another. This could have totally been left out. It ended up seeming messy and pointless.

The other thing that was messy, is all her friends, and side characters. Like, wholly smokes. Just chill. You don’t have to give all of everything to one book. There were enough characters and plot lines to fill 2 separate books for sure.

ALL THE FEELS

It’s good. There are parts of it that are sad. But it’s not a heavy read.

And Caleb, Caleb, Caleb … unfortunately he was cliché as a cheater. Rebecca was hot, it was exciting when they were sneaking around. Typical. Then reality comes. And it was not pleasant for him. He lost his wife, his job, his reputation, his self-respect … and wound up with a totally crazy baby mama. He ended up having to be a single parent living with his mother again. As the old saying goes: “one does not find happiness at the expense of another“.

I was disappointed with the rushed ending. There needed to be more of a recap of each character. We didn’t hear or learn much about Emelia, also would like to have known this far into the future what happened with Caleb and his child. Whatever happened to Rebecca “Becky”?

There were too many pages in the middle, focusing on unimportant details. And then the end was rushed. More time and writing should’ve been spent on the ending.

In other words, it really needed a good epilogue. Because, while we enjoy the journey to get there, isn’t the ending the reason we read a book?

Still, I do recommend reading it. It is enjoyable.

good bones

Had some timeline and small lediting errors.
But the base of the story was good.

Beginning of story seemed so rushed would have liked to have some more details of their marriage before the end. The infidelity hit and you did not feel bad for Caleb at all especially with his POV so betrayal didn’t have that gut punch. Didn’t feel connected to their marriage at all. I mean 6 months seriously and she was at hospital and he didn’t get any of those messages and Eddie and Em, his parents everyone called how did he not get those???!!!. And OTT stalking would have had Restraining order with her good lawyers.
And he and OW just did it at a party with his wife there, his wife leaves and he thinks nothing of it she was sick and doesn’t come home until next day after the wife knows already of his indiscretions. Was so over it. I liked Cash but the whole after they got together just had me skimming.

Two crazy OW drama OTT was just a bit too much. Better if story was shorter.

I have no words 😶

Holy crap 💩 on a cracker. This book, I have absolutely devoured was so AmAzInG 🤩 I laughed 😆, I cried 😭, I got so mad 😡 I am so glad that Devin & Cash got happily ever after (be still my heart) And bless Calen’s heart ❤️ he has a real family (my cup runneth over) Eddie & Clint, ugh 😩🩷 I felt so bad for Eddie, why and how parents can disown their children for their sexual preferences is beyond me. I am so glad that Devin’s parents footed him 🩷 I would loved to have known why Emilia was acting so strange we never found out 🤨 Caleb, that donkey’s behind got his just desserts . But, I am glad that he got custody. Thank god for his mess up that gave Devin & Cash (Johnny & June 😉) their happily ever after 🥰

Good Book

It was a good book definitely but I didn't like the ending it was too rushed of an ending but the book was good I'm not saying it wasn't good it was just too much of a rust-ending you know she got married she was pregnant and then the author moved from that to 30 years later and three kids later and her parents being buried by her grandparents but that was just a little rushed for me and no more mentioning Eddie so we don't know what happened with Eddie her adoptive brother or if the brother the main character cash raised everi got with the girl had the crush on although she was a little older than than him but you know that will never explained it just rushed the ending so I'm giving is three stars for now.

Johnny and June

I loved how Devin call Cash "Johnny Cash" and he called her "June". Cash was so patient allowing Devin to heal and learn to trust in their friendship before they started into a committed relationship.

The ending needed more. I mean they get married and then boom Epilogue was 30 years later. I mean I would of liked more.

All in for the first half, then.....

This book about a spouse cheating was a surprisingly good read, at first. The beginning of the book was interesting and the characters believable, but then came the timeline drama. First it was 2 different things in 1 page, then things happened yesterday when it was actually 2 days ago, you get me?
So from then on I was on skim mode.

Just a tad too long.

I feel like there were some scenarios added just to make the book longer and some a parts of the storyline that felt rushed.

This was a good book but it dragged and I kept having to put it down. The pace needed to be faster and it should have been shorter. I loved both MC’s.
