Some nightmares begin the moment you wake up.

For as long as she can remember, Shelby Jones has felt that something about her life is incomplete.

Then a chilling message Shelby Jones, your entire life is a lie.

The fragile sense of normalcy she has built begins to unravel. She finds herself drawn into an unlikely circle of River — the arrogant, star quarterback and campus royalty who knows how to command attention. Jared Mitchell — effortlessly handsome, introverted, and far more guarded than he appears. Alice Whitman — quietly manipulative, mysterious, and tied to one of the most powerful families connected to the town of Wilshire Pointe.

Then the nightmares begin. Not ordinary nightmares, but ones that are dark and almost impossible to shake. Ones that will shortly bleed into her reality.

Strange disturbances ripple through the quiet town. Whispers follow Shelby wherever she goes. And beneath the polished surface of Wilshire Pointe lies a past deliberately buried.

As Shelby and her friends search for answers, they uncover fragments of a hidden history tied to something darker—a mystery steeped in secrets, where nightmares begin crossing into the real world and nothing is as it seems.

The nightmares are not random. They are calling to her, leading her toward a truth that may finally reveal who she really is.

And whatever has been sleeping beneath Wilshire Pointe has been waiting a very long time to wake.

It has been years since a book seeped into my unconscious enough to cause me to have a nightmare. P. Mittra wrote a novel that did just that! This is an amazing debut horror novel.

From the very first page reading Wilshire Pointe was like slowly peeling the layers of an onion. As each layer revealed the one below the horrors and tension grew.

I truly did not expect the haunting and evils to come from the "person" who perpetuated it all. It was a very clever angel for Mittra to take.

The story is told from several points of view, which usually frustrates me, but to really understand why events occur the multiple points of view is necessary. And, they worked well to keep the story alive.

I received a free copy of this novel, and I am voluntarily leaving my opinions. Thank you to the author, publisher and Booksirens for this opportunity.

I recommend this debut novel to anyone interested in dreamscapes, omens, hauntings and revenge. I will be searching for future novels by P. Mittra.

P. Mittra’s debut horror novel kept me guessing until the last page. With lots of twists, chilling storytelling, and an immersive setting, Wilshire Pointe kept me on the edge of my seat and eagerly waiting for the next chance I got to sit and read a few chapters.

The book had you guessing multiple times on what was going to happen next. You could figure out some links between characters as you went, but then the author would throw in something that would send you in a different direction. I do like how more characters were linked/explained later in the book which made some connections make more sense. Some information could have been shared earlier to help make some situations make more sense, but since it was explained later it made you rethink about earlier parts of the book. Amazing. I loved the twist on this story. And the multiple POVs really brought this story to life. I was so engrossed in this story. I loved the way it was written. The depth and the way it pulls you in and keeps you needing to know what’s going to happen next. I really enjoyed that this was more original than some stories written in this genre. It was a page turner for sure. This is the first time I’ve read this author and I hope to read much more.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. My opinion is my own and is meant for potential readers.

Shelby finds herself going from voluntary social outcast to finding herself in an unlikely friend group due to the popular girl taking her on as a project. Yet, something isn't quite right in her world when strange dreams and happenings start occurring.

This threw me off at first, between the setting and the jumps and time skips. I was expecting something completely different while reading and honestly was hoping it wasn't going where I started to guess it was.

Sadly, I found myself becoming more and more disappointed. Characters seem to teleport, one moment they are in one place, then the next paragraph they are somewhere else entirely. It threw me off and I had to go back and reread to make sure it wasn't intentional from the author. Unfortunately, it wasn't a plot point that was hidden to make us feel off kilter-or if it was, it wasn't done well.

I found that despite how chaotic and messy the twists and turns got, I ultimately was disappointed and bored with the outcome. Things were FAR too convenient and tied together. Some things didn't make sense, like some things got mentioned at the end and I feel they were meant to make us go "Ohhhh! How interesting!" yet I found myself going, "yeah this doesn't make sense, there was nothing to lead up to making me intrigued by this."

The most disappointing part for me is that the story idea is very interesting, the characters are actually likeable (some of them), and the writing has promise. But I think this would benefit heavily from some SERIOUS editing, between making it cleaner and getting rid of the many grammatical and spelling errors. I ultimately find myself thinking this is an unfinished draft and isn't ready for publishing.

Wilshire Pointe is an absolute must read!! It completely pulled me in from the very first chapter and refused to let go. What starts as a mystery about a young, college kid, Shelby Jones, quickly unfolds into something so much deeper and darker. From past secrets to foreboding nightmare, the eerie feel of Wilshire Pointe kept me turning pages way past my bedtime. Shelby’s journey of discovering who she really is felt so, completely emotional and authentic. I found myself completely invested in her story and just when I thought that I had it figured out, there was a new twist and turn.

One of my favorite things about this book was that you truly got to know all the characters. You felt as though you were on this scary ride with them as you tried to figure out who could be trusted and what role each character played in the bigger picture of it all. Every time I thought I had things figured out, another twist had me questioning everything again and that ending…not what I expected but so incredibly well done. I love a book that has you under the covers at 2 am because you just need to know what happens next…this is that book!!

P. Mittra did a fabulous job creating a story that felt both familiar and unsettling, where every secret seemed to lead to an even bigger one. The way the nightmares slowly bled into reality gave it all such a creepy, on the edge of my seat kind of feeling without ever losing sight of the characters and their relationships. The author has an amazing talent for blending suspense with the supernatural into a story that feels impossible to put down.

I absolutely loved this book!! If this is just the beginning of what P. Mittra has in store, I cannot wait to see what comes next. I’ll be first in line for the author’s next book, can’t wait and highly recommend this read…don’t walk, run…you don’t want to miss out on this one!!

Wilshire Pointe by P. Mittra
Rating: 4 of 5

What really worked for me was the atmosphere. This is one of those books where the setting does a lot of heavy lifting, and in a good way. There’s a persistent sense that something isn’t quite right, and it builds gradually rather than hitting you over the head. I found myself getting pulled in not because of big, dramatic scares, but because of that underlying tension that just keeps tightening as the story goes on. It’s the kind of unease that lingers a bit after you put the book down.

That said, the parts that stayed with me the most were the moments where the characters felt real and grounded. Horror only really lands, at least for me, when I care about who it’s happening to. With Shelby and River, I found that connection pretty quickly—the way their relationship is drawn, with its mix of trust, strain, and unspoken worry, made their situation feel personal rather than abstract. You start to understand not just what they’re facing, but what they stand to lose, and that pulled me in more than any single “scary” moment. The book does get there, it gives you enough to understand what drives people, what they’re afraid of—but I did find myself wishing it pushed a little further in places. A bit more depth would have made some of the more unsettling moments hit even harder.

Overall, I’d recommend Wilshire Pointe to anyone who prefers their horror on the quieter, more psychological side. It’s not about shock value—it’s about mood, tension, and that creeping feeling that something is off long before you can explain why. And honestly, that’s the kind of horror I tend to remember.

Wilshire Pointe was not at all what I expected, and I mean that in a good way. It’s part horror, part mystery, and part historical fiction. I never knew what the next chapter would bring, which kept the story fresh and interesting. The characters are also very well formed, which is important for a good story. The writer managed to bring forth my sympathy for some truly awful characters, which isn’t an easy task. Overall, I really enjoyed this fun book and will keep an eye out for future works by this author.

Be sure to keep your lights on at night after this thriller! While I don’t wish to give away too much of the story, I will say that the author captures the essence of the 70s small town setting in America —building each of the characters and places into a permanent space in your memory. Somehow she elegantly intertwines each of these individual lives into a bone chilling episode of twist and turns. An overall entertaining must read for anyone who wants to escape into a different dimension! As with any good read it leaves you wanting even more!

The story opens with a haunting tone that immediately pulls you in, setting the perfect mood for a dark academia read. *Wilshire Pointe* offers a compelling journey into a world that feels both eerie and intellectually rich. As you move through the pages, the atmosphere steadily deepens, wrapping you in its shadows. It’s the kind of book where the tension lingers, and the darkness slowly seeps in, making it a thoughtful and immersive experience for genre lovers.

This psychological thriller was one of the most gripping books I have read in a long time. The story pulled me in and kept me engaged until the very end. The pacing was excellent with the right amount of suspense, twists, and unexpected revelations to make it nearly impossible to put down. Would like to see more of this author’s beautiful writings in the near future.

This psychological thriller delivers a steady, creeping sense of unease that lingers long after you’ve put it down. It builds tension through atmosphere, and the unsettling complexity of the human mind. The pacing is deliberate, pulling you deeper into a story where nothing feels entirely certain.

It’s not even my normal genre, but once I started the book, I couldn’t put it down. Once I finished it, I wanted it to be continued as I fell in love with a few of the characters who were not even in the main link!

This book gave me Stephen King and Daphne Du Mauruer vibes and I'm here for it!!! The book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! The way the characters and story tied in with all the twists and turns, it kept me guessing! I told myself I wasn't going to read this in the dark but I did with a nightlight on and my front door locked lol This book is on my top 10 favorite of the year and I will continue to think about for along time! I read this in 2 days and it was worth it!!

There aren’t many books that have the ideal blend of an engaging storyline with perfect pacing. Wilshire Pointe checks both those boxes.

I spooked myself out listening to the eerie tunes referenced in the book while reading some of the creepiest writing I’ve ever had the pleasure of coming across. Well done, P. Mittra! Can’t wait to see what comes next.

A Gripping Story with Heart and Momentum

Wilshire Pointe pulled me in from the first chapter and never let go. The author blends suspense, character depth, and emotional tension in a way that feels both cinematic and intimate. The setting is vivid, the pacing tight, and the characters feel fully lived‑in, flawed, hopeful, and easy to root for. What surprised me most was how quickly I became invested in the community at the center of the story and the secrets that shape it.

If you enjoy novels that balance mystery with genuine human connection, Wilshire Pointe is a standout. It’s the kind of book you finish in a couple of sittings and think about long after.
