Werelioness Penelope Little has a growling lion pacing the library’s shelves. Not just any lion, either. He’s the most powerful feline in the country. And for some reason, he’s got his sights set on curvy, slightly nerdy, and totally frumpy Penny Not-So-Little.
When he finally calms enough to shift… Well, gorgeous doesn’t begin to describe him. He’s sexy, sinful, and has a smile that nearly brings her to her knees. Even better, he’s all hers. Or is he? When a witch is involved in his sudden appearance, there’s no telling.
**Stand alone, no cliffhangers.**
Quick & Furry: Love, Laughs, and a Bit of Rawr on the Go.
Part of the Quick & Furry series: Chasing Tail Tailing Her On Her Tail Heads or Tails
This was my first book by this author, and it will not be the last. The writing style was easy to get into, the characters were likable, and the plot was quick but did not feel rushed. I do wish that Penelope had made Marcus grovel a little after he totally abandoned her in the library, but their reunion had plenty of steam to make up for it. I have a hunch on who the next book will be about, and I'm excited to continue this series!
I get that this was a short book but both very little seemed to happened. They meet. They mate. The end. It had an insta-love feel and I really felt nothing for any of the characters. There wasn't even a real plot. I'm a bit disappointed.
Penelope has had a hard life because her parents were disappointed in her so her pride also treated her badly. Penelope was a lion shifter and a librarian so when she spots a huge lion in the library, she doesn't really think much of it since there were a lot of lion shifters in town. But this lion was acting strange and she wasn't sure if he wanted to use her as dinner or claim her as a mate at first.
Marcus is the North American alpha and has come to Penny's town to claim his mate. He followed her scent all the way to town and then the alpha there tells him there's been a mistake, that Penelope isn't really his mate because a witch put a spell on him. The only problem is, the spell wasn't really put on him but put on Penelope to bring her mate to her. Penelope's best friend hired the witch to find her mate since Penelope was so lonely and had been treated badly for far too long.
When Marcus gets the truth out of the witch, all he wants to do is claim his mate. Sparks fly between these two in a good way and so they know they found their mate. The best thing Penelope's friend did for her was hire the witch to find her mate. This novella was a quick read but so full of heartbreak and passion. I loved that Penelope finally found the one person who would make her happy for the rest of her life and could leave the pride that didn't even like her, behind where they belonged.
I so love books by Celia Kyle. She just writes the books I want to read. Now if I could only get caught up on her books I'd be in business. But as most readers know there are just too many books and way to little time to read them all. I am trying though.
Since I hadn't yet started her Quick & Furry series I thought this would be the perfect time to do so. I'm glad I did.
As a whole the story is a good one. It's well written and I really liked both Penelope and Marcus. Their first meeting and scary and hot all at the same time. They are drawn together and find out they are meant to be.
I love them together but it kinda pissed me off how others didn't want Penelope to be happy other then her bestie that is. I wanted to know more about her past and why everyone thought and felt the way they did. Yes we are told but I kinda needed more.
The story is very fast paced and maybe a little too short. If it wasn't for the fact that it was paranormal and shifters can sense their mates I would have felt rushed.
Even with saying that I did enjoy the story and want more of this series. Even with this story being so short it packed a punch.
Was reading along and then bamm it was over. Just way too abruptly for me. I'd prefer some closure of the issues raised, not just a night of sex. And yes I realise there are more stories to come, but they will be about other shifters. You only get one chance to do the ending correctly.
Generally I love CK's writing so of course I'll be reading the rest of the series, and I'm looking forward to the collaboration with Mina Carter in the 5th book, another of my fav authors.
I knew this was a novella length book but still felt I need a little closure for the way her pride treated her. Felt it wasn’t a complete story. I liked the storyline though and just wanted a little more.
Penelope's self-confidence has taken many hits over the years, causing her to listen to the naysayers that claim the deliciously furious lion, who just so happens to be the North American Alpha, is actually her mate. Well, you know what? Magic or not, Penelope wants Marcus as her own and so help anyone who gets in her way!
This is a super quick, fun shifter romp. There’s just enough story to understand that Penelope has been pushed aside and looked down upon by her pride (and family) that you really want her to pull out a win. In her case, the win comes in the form of a yummy lion shifter who is ready to bite anyone that says another insulting thing or claim his attraction is the work of a witch’s spell. The character and romance development isn't that complex yet it easily satisfies a PNR craving.
As with all Celia Kyle books (at least the ones I've read) there's a fair amount of humor packed into the short amount of pages and it makes you want to come back to see what else the series has to offer. Even if it's for a brief visit. - Stephanie
Despite this great blub, the book is no so great. The heroine is not so nerdy or at least we don't get any character development in that area. Or for the hero. It is a hot sexy book but very thin on actual romance.
Meh Super short (100 page) novella with lion shifters Penny and Marcus. (king of the lions) These two meet and immediately know they are mates, just when they’re about to seal the deal; Penny’s alpha (Alpha Palmer) rushes in and stops things. This was “ok”, it was entertaining for an hour, but there’s no character development, and things just end w/ the mating. I wish we would have had some explanation/follow up as to why Alpha Palmer meddled, and how the couple settled/lived/future.
Bottom Line- Not terrible, but not great. It’s fluff. If you have KU, and a free hour to waste; you’ll probably be entertained.
I love smexy shorts!! The only problem is that when they are well written I always want more story! This is of course one of those cases.
This could stand to be a touch longer for the world building alone. Things are a little loose and vague. If you're used to shifter reads, things can be filled in, but if you are new to them this shouldn't be your first encounter. Read Ridgeville series then these.
Penelope is sassy and self confident. That is how I prefer my curvy heroines!! Even when faced with heartbreak, she pulls up her big girl panties and takes not sh*t.
This is a mixed narrative, so you get both leads POV, which is key to understanding Marcus. This makes for a more dynamic and engaging read all around.
The smexy scenes are scrumptious!!! Be ready for a cold shower after this quickie!
Can not wait to read the other three smexy shorts in the series!
I loved reading this story! The character of Penelope was very well developed but the rest were not so much. Except Marcus. Later. I would have gone with a 5 star with just a little more elaboration. Why did her parents hate her? What's up with her Alpha? He was a grade A jerk to her. I would love to learn more about what happens with Jillian and Georgie, and maybe see what happens next . This was a sweet story and a quick read and will make you want to continue this series!
Celia Kyle is great if you're looking for a quick read without a whole lot of drama. However, Chasing Tail had an issue with nothing having consequences. A character would do something and the moment would be built-up as having an impact on another character, then in the next scene it would be completely forgotten. By the end, there were a lot of loose threads that never got tied-up. This made the end feel abrupt and pretty unsatisfying.
Loved it. Loved the storyline and the characters. This author has a way with words and writing about shifters, the alpha males are dominant and possessive and the females are strong, determined, but also vulnerable and really funny(All kinds of whoredom known to whoreland.....hilarious) and they always have great chemistry! This was a awesome start to a new series and I'm really looking forward to book 2!
This was a short quick read that I really liked. I like reading Ms. Kyle's books because they also seem to draw me in and it makes me want more. Werelioness Penelope has always been what we would call in outcast in her den Penelope is a librarian and she has one pissed off lion male in her mist. Marcus is the Alpha of North America and he smells his mate. This was a really well written book and a great beginning to a new series for me. I am looking forward to read the rest of this series.
There is one piece of the ending that's missing that I want to see, but otherwise I love this book. I would love to see how the pack reacts to Penelope becoming the North American alpha female. I know she wouldn't but I want Penelope to rub that in their faces.
A wonderful sweet funny read but I would have loved it to be longer. Penelope is not your typical lioness, she is stronger and smarter than most of them and doesn’t feel the need to prove herself. She has been the brunt of teasing, negativity and derogatory comments from her alpha and pride most of her life. One can only assume alpha Jeff Palmer disliked her so much because she was stronger than him. As the true mate of the North American Ruling Alpha it is to be expected that she will be powerful in her own right. Finding a hot lion shifter prowling the library was not unusual but when he shifts into a hot man and is her mate. Yowza. Except her Alpha spoils it all by telling the Ruling Alpha he is under a witch’s spell. Marcus is a big doofus and believes Jeff rather than his own instincts at first, big pussy. I did like that he gave himself grief for what he did and wanted nothing more than to go back to Penelope. I felt so sad and hurt for Penelope when he turned his back on her and left. I really grinned at the whole section with Jennifer in it. Jennifer is Alpha Palmers sister and Penelope’s best friend. She is the one who called the witch in to help Penelope find her mate. Marcus was her mate. Loved Penelope’s lioness giving her grief when the truth dawned. The witch also happens to be a relative of Penelope and when Penelope finds out about her cousin being in trouble from the pride she races over and takes on Marcus. Physically. Loved that bit. I really wished her rotten parents were alive to find out she was the mate of the North American Ruling Alpha, would have been nice to rub their faces in it. Poetic justice at its best. I hope Jennifer and Grayson get their own stories.
Where there are self righteous indignation there’s going to be a sweet sassy lady who’s holding back her need to show her strength, at least in this author’s writing, and I absolutely love it! Once again I’m blown away by the characters and just a little in love with the strength this lioness has kept hidden. The author kept me on the edge of my seat hoping her lion would figure out the truth, and the HEA was totally worth the broken nails. This book was a short, fantastic read that was perfect for a few hours of relaxation. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
I love Celia Kyle and I love her books! This one is "Quick & Furry". Chasing Tail is about a shifter librarian in a small town who is stalked through her library by a huge lion shifter. Through the course of the book, we learn that the MFC is disliked by her pride and resigned herself to being alone forever. Her best friend devises a way to bring her mate to her. Of course, it wouldn't be a happily ever after if there wasn't some small hijinks and issues to resolve, which Kyle does in short order meaning out characters can commence on their HEA which included some smexy time.
Good book but not enough to it. I REALLY loved the plot. The blurb said no cliffhangers but I felt like there was a lot left unsaid that really should have been. Went did her alpha act like he did when her mate found her? Why did the whole pride hate her? Why did she hate that house? So many questions. Love this author and I will be reading the next one but this is one off my least favorites. Not at all because of the plot. Just needed more
This was barely a serial, being only about 3 real chapters long. There was no character development or relationship building and zero world building. This was supposed to be the first "book" in a new series but the was no stage set for a series and none of the storytelling needed to connect with the characters or the world they live in. I'm quite finished reading anything written by this author.
Penny was looked on by her price members as a disappointment, even her own parents were dissatisfied w/ her a!so. The North American Alpha - Marcus was immediately draw to her - was Penny a lonely Librarian his mate? Was he under a witch"
I loved the premise of this book. It would have been nice to have a bit more history instead of the narrator just telling me about it, like a prologue. Also, maybe have an epilogue to tell what comes next for these two. Otherwise, it was an excellent book!
If you are looking for a short but great read, this book is for you. This is the first time I have read anything from this author but I guarantee it will not be the last.
Thoroughly average, insta-love novella that I'll likely forget as soon as I start a new book. The premise wasn't bad, the author could have easily taken this to respectable heights, as her writing style is pretty good in my opinion. Too bad she wanted to write a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am story.
A great quick, sweet, fun little read. Need just something to pass the time while waiting for the doctor or on your commute. This is the perfect tale for that, not too many characters or a deep plot or an overall in-depth arc. A 5 star read.
