Retired nurse and part-time spy Evelyn Chambers is sent to Turkey with a clear assignment: help extract an American engineer who can no longer leave the country safely. Chris Weldon has built a life in Istanbul, but leaving it behind will take more than a plane ticket and a passport. To complicate matters, the information he has makes a quiet departure even more urgent. To get him out, Evelyn and her fiancé, Roger Reed, must move him quietly across Turkey, staying one step ahead of anyone who may be watching.
What begins as a careful operation soon becomes far more fragile than Evelyn expected, with changing timelines, hidden risks, and the uneasy knowledge that one mistake could trap them all. In unfamiliar territory, Evelyn will need all her wits and resolve to bring them through unscathed.
Because this time, getting out is only the beginning.
From the time she was ten and tried to write her own detective series in the fashion of the Hardy Boys, Renée Pawlish has been developing her craft. Along with creative writing classes, Renée studied great writers like Dashiell Hammett, Rex Stout, Stephen King, Sue Grafton and many more. Once Renée graduated from college, she began her first novel. Now, all these years later, she has penned numerous books in a variety of genres.
Renée was born in California, but has lived most of her life in Colorado. When she's not hiking, cycling, or chasing ballplayers for autographs, she is writing mysteries and thrillers. She also has some middle grade novels waiting to be published.
Renée loves to travel and has visited numerous countries around the world. She has also spent many summer days at her parents' cabin in the hills outside of Boulder, which was the inspiration for the setting of Taylor Crossing in her novel Nephilim: Genesis of Evil.

Turkish Tangle has senior spy, Evelyn and her fiancé Roger, taking a whirlwind trip to rescue an American engineer that has seen something that had him asking questions. Those questions brought him unwanted attention from nefarious people. Compounding the risky rescue is the engineers child Evelyn has been told to leave behind.
Different characters come into the story as well as familiar ones, plenty of mystery and suspense with hold your breath moments within. This mystery kept me parked in my seat wanting to read it straight through.
Beyond the tangle that Evelyn and Roger are trying to unknot, author Renee Pawlish writes a wonderful travel narrative bringing you along the same journey the characters take through parts of Turkey. Giving glimpses of Istanbul and outlying areas, you sit in tea shops with Evelyn, learn about the ancient walls, and see a different part of life.
Turkish Tangle (The Evelyn Chambers Senior Spy Series Book 10), my seventy-ninth read from prolific author Renee Pawlis, the tenth involving Evelyn Chambers. Great character, another engaging storyline! As Pawlish expands her writings over five primary characters, she has improved all five. Still, Evelyn Chambers may be the surprise character out of all of them, who'd have guessed that a senior citizen might anchor a great series! A Renee Pawlish book is like a visit with an old friend. “I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to the next book in this series when it's published, as well as anything else written by her. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Evelyn Chambers gets to visit the country of Turkiye on a mission for the CIA. There are some twists to this story that I didn't expect, but kept me interested. She is joined by her friend Roger, who actively participates, making the story even more interesting, because you can't always predict his behavior. There is enough intrigue and mystery to keep you happy and entertained.
The depictions of Turkish culture, society and food are very accurate. I have lived in the country for several years and can attest to how well Ms. Pawlish has depicted it. As always she combines a mystery/adventure with a travelogue in a seamless manner. Very entertaining. Enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone looking for a good read.
A retired nurse in her 70's doesn't seem a likely candidate to be a spy. Pawlish makes this reasonable in her Evelyn Chambers Senior Spy Series Book 10! Evelyn and her fiance, Roger, head to Turkey to find and remove an endangered American engineer. Not an easy task! Nothing is as it seems as Evelyn deals with a forger to obtain new passports and finds ways to get to safety. There are plenty of twists, bad guys and car chases! I really enjoy this series and this author. This book can stand alone, but I highly recommend you read read the entire series and see how Evelyn grows and learns the spy world. I also recommend Pawlish's other series.
Evelyn Chambers is once again caught up in quite a tangle. She and her fiancé, Roger Reed, are sent to Turkey to find Chris Weldon, an American who the CIA needs to extract. Chris has information that unscrupulous people want, and quietly getting him safely out of Turkey will require Evelyn to use a lot of wit and cunning. The plot gets twisted and more confusing. This is a great series of cozy mysteries that are sure to delight and keep you guessing.
Turkish Tangle is the 10th book in Renee Pawlish’s Evelyn Chambers Mystery Series. Evelyn is a consultant for the CIA. Her mission this time is to go to Turkey to find American engineer Chris Weldon and get him safely out of the country. Evelyn gets to take her fiancé Roger Reed along again. There are lots of twists and turns as circumstances keep making plans change. As always you will find this cozy mystery a delightful page turner.
I always loved to travel and these books take me to a few more exotic places I missed wrapped up in an international spy mystery.
Love that the heroine Evelyn is 72 and more than competent with a new love rather than portrayed within the crazy senior paradigm many authors latch onto for laughs.
Start with Book One and read the series. Each one gets better and better.
What an exciting and scary adventure for Evelyn. And this time Roger was along as well. Sent to help a man escape from Turkey, things don't go quite as planned, and Evelyn has to do some quick thinking. This story had me riveted for the day and half it took to read it. (Life happened to make it longer) Pawlish is hitting her stride with the cozy genre and this series.
This series is one of my favorites! Evelyn and her cats are so lovable and keep you entertained for the entire book. Evelyn is up to her antics and might just be in over her head. She keeps you reading from start to finish. The storyline is intense at times and keeps you guessing. Love this series and look forward to more books!
Margaret, Evelyn's neighbor, agrees to watch the cats for a week. She has been told that Roger and Evelyn are booked a last minute cruise, a great deal Roger came across. The truth is the "vacationing" couple are heading to Turkey to help on an extraction of an intelligence asset and his 12 year old daughter.
Renée has written another great book. As Roger gets to be included in Evelyn’s CIA adventures around the world the stories keep getting better. Exotic trips, mystery and danger surround them. Love it.
Full of atmosphere and reminiscent of the Mrs Pollifax stories by Dorothy Gilman which is very high praise indeed. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
