Wisteria Creek #2

Beneath the Broken Sky

Rate this book
When a violent storm rips through Wisteria Creek, Madison Coleloses more than her home. She also loses the fragile stability she’s spent years building for her and her daughter. Forced to stay in the guest house of her best friend’s infuriating, undeniably attractive older brother, she finds herself confronting memories she thought she’d outgrown.

Seth Cunningham has always been the man she could never quite figure out. The boy who teased her, the teenager who kept his distance, and the adult who now watches her with a quiet intensity she doesn’t understand. Living steps apart was supposed to be temporary. However, beneath long summer evenings and soft moments they never meant to share, their friction begins to shift into something neither of them is ready for.

Under a sky broken open by storms, Madison and Seth learn that sometimes the pieces left behind create something stronger, deeper, and worth fighting for.

Frenemies-to-lovers tension, found family warmth, and the tender pull of a love written in the quiet moments, Beneath the Broken Sky is a heart-stirring small-town romance about healing, hope, and home.

Babes...You know those books that feel like a warm hug after a really long day? The kind that remind you healing doesn't always happen in big dramatic moments, but in quiet conversations, shared coffee, bedtime stories, and people showing up when it matters most? That's exactly what Beneath the Broken Sky was for me. 🥹

After a devastating storm leaves them without a home, Madison is forced to lean on the very last person she ever expected her best friend's older brother, Seth Cunningham.

And listen...I love a grumpy man. But I love a grumpy man who secretly has the biggest heart even more. Because Seth may act closed off, quiet, and emotionally unavailable, but the second Madison and Olive enter his world? This man never stood a chance.

Some of my favorite romance books are the ones where a child helps crack open a character's heart, and Olive did exactly that.
Watching Seth soften around her? Top tier book boyfriend behavior.🥹

I also loved Madison. As a mom myself, I connected so deeply with her desire to protect her child while still trying to hold herself together through everything life kept throwing at her.
She wasn't perfect.
She was exhausted.
Guarded.
Trying her best.

Wisteria Creek feels like the kind of town you'd want to move to.
Everyone showing up after the storm.
Everyone helping each other rebuild.

This wasn't just a romance. It was a story about healing. About finding home again. About learning that sometimes life breaks apart so something stronger can be built in its place.

And fair warning...You'll fall in love with Olive.
It's inevitable.🥹💕

🌻Small Town Romance

This was such a sweet, wholesome small town romance. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely melted over how sweet and patient Seth was with Madison’s daughter, Olive. Their connection felt so genuine, and I loved watching both Seth and Madison secretly pine for each other while trying so hard to protect their hearts after past hurt. But when they finally let their walls down, the chemistry was everything.

I also loved how involved Blair, Greyson, and honestly the entire town were in helping each other after the big storm. The sense of community and found family made this story feel extra cozy and heartwarming. This was such a perfect small town romance and easily the kind of book you want to curl up with all summer long. Add this one to your summer TBR immediately!

Seth and Madison are so amazing! This book gave me so much love and comfort. Book 2 in Emily’s Wisteria Creek series gave small town vibes and cozy vibes. I felt like I was in Wisteria Creek! Seth is grumpy and closed off while Madison just wants to be loved with her Olive girl. That little angel has so much imagination and it was so refreshing to see! This slow burn was torture but so worth it. This couple deserves all the happiness and love and family. Thank you Emily for trusting me with Seth and Madison! I cannot wait for Maddox’s book next!

Aww, what a sweet, sweet read about healing, hope, and home. A very slow, slow-burn romance that becomes easier to enjoy because of Olive, Madison’s daughter. Her presence is so prominent in the best way possible, as her cute behaviors and little drawings slowly break down the walls around both Madison’s and Seth’s hearts.

I was in awe of Madison’s and Seth’s chemistry once they finally let their guards down and allowed themselves to be free. But I have to admit, Olive stole a bigger piece of my heart. I love that little girl! 💙💙

If I had to share one disturbance in my reading experience, it would be the chapter length. The chapters are really short. Most of them narrate just one single moment. Some chapters could have been merged together so the story wouldn’t reach 50-ish chapters.

Not that there’s anything wrong with having 50-ish chapters. There really isn’t. But when readers see that many chapters, they automatically expect something more complex. They start imagining an eventful small town romance packed with layers of conflict and extended drama after the main characters decide to love one another, while this story is actually way simpler than that.

But overall, I truly enjoy reading this book. I love how it emphasizes that home doesn’t always come from a house. Sometimes, home comes from people. And this story delivers that message beautifully.

———

The story takes place in a small town called Wisteria Creek.

When a violent storm hits the town, Madison’s house is badly damaged. The ceiling collapses. A place built through years of hard work and hope for stability, both for herself and her daughter, is suddenly no longer safe to live in.

Madison is forced to stay in her best friend’s older brother’s guest house.

Yes, that Seth.

An architect who spent his childhood teasing her. A teenager who later kept his distance. And now an adult who quietly watches over her with care.

Madison never wants anything to do with Seth again. Ever.

Until circumstances leave her with no other choice.

But through long evenings, quiet conversations, and soft moments created by a storm and forced proximity, something between them slowly shifts into love.

Beneath the broken sky, Madison begins healing from all the heaviness she has been carrying alone. She learns to let love challenge her fears. No more worrying about being left behind like she was by people she once depended on.

Meanwhile, from the main house, Seth watches Madison and Olive and slowly realizes something too. He doesn’t have to hide behind his work forever. He doesn’t have to bury his feelings because of a betrayal from the past. And he is allowed to love a woman and a little girl at the same time if that’s what his heart truly wants.

We already know how the rest of their story goes.

I had the pleasure of ARC reading Beneath The Broken Sky by Emily Scotto, the second book in the Wisteria Creek series, and from the very first chapter, this story completely pulled me in. If you love small-town romances that make your heart ache, heal, and swoon all at once, then this is a book you need on your summer TBR immediately. The story follows Madison, a strong and fiercely devoted single mom doing everything she can to give her daughter Olive a good life. But when a violent thunderstorm tears through town and leaves their home partially destroyed and unlivable, Madison is forced to rely on the last person she ever expected… Seth, the town’s grumpy, emotionally guarded architect overseeing the repairs. Seth has spent years convincing himself that love, relationships, and family simply aren’t meant for him after being hurt in the past. But the moment Madison and Olive step into his life, and his guest house, everything he thought he wanted begins to change. What starts as forced proximity quickly turns into something tender, emotional, and impossible to resist. This book delivers everything I love in a romance book: small-town charm, found family, grumpy x sunshine chemistry, enemies to lovers tension, emotional healing, and perfectly balanced spice that adds to the story instead of overpowering it. But what truly made this book stand out was the heart. The relationship development felt authentic and emotional, and there were so many moments that made me smile, swoon, and genuinely root for these characters to find their happily ever after. Beneath The Broken Sky feels like the kind of story you curl up with for “just one chapter” and suddenly realize hours have passed because you can’t put it down. If you’re looking for a romance that feels comforting, emotional, and completely addictive, this one deserves a spot at the top of your reading list. I already cannot wait for my next trip back to Wisteria Creek!

i went into beneath the broken sky by emily scotto without reading the first book in the wisteria creek series and somehow that made this experience even more surprising because now i desperately want to go back and read book one. that alone probably says enough about how invested i ended up becoming in these characters.

at first, i’ll admit i struggled a little with the pacing because everything felt like it was moving very quickly. plot points rolled into each other almost too fast for me to properly settle into them and i wasn’t sure if i was fully connecting with the story. but chapter by chapter, something shifted.

what completely won me over was the relationship between madison and her daughter olive. their bond felt so warm and comforting and honestly became the emotional heart of this book for me. olive absolutely stole every scene she was in with the way she naturally glided into seth’s life. watching seth slowly settle into their dynamic and care for this little four year old girl was genuinely one of the sweetest parts of the story. there’s something so wholesome about seeing characters build a sense of family in small quiet moments and this book did that beautifully.

the story is told through multiple points of view mainly madison and seth with some blair chapters as well and while i usually enjoy dual povs, i did feel like the repeated mentions of the “storm” brewing in their lives became slightly repetitive by the end. it felt like every chapter closed on a similar emotional note which occasionally pulled me out of the flow of the story.

but despite that, i still thoroughly enjoyed this book. it ended up being a very comforting and heartfelt read with characters i genuinely cared about and now i’m surprisingly attached to this series. thank you to Emily Scotto and Naughty Nook PR for the arc copy!!

Emotional warmth, chemistry, and comforting romance vibes. Beneath the Broken Sky by Emily Scotto is a soft, emotional small-town romance built on healing, quiet love, and the kind of connection that grows slowly in the middle of chaos.

After a devastating storm changes everything, Madison is forced into close proximity with Seth Cunningham—the one man who has always managed to frustrate and unsettle her in equal measure. What begins as tension and unresolved history gradually turns into something much deeper through shared space, vulnerability, and small everyday moments.

The strength of this story is its emotional intimacy. Rather than relying on dramatic twists, it focuses on comfort, trust, and the slow rebuilding of stability after loss. Seth’s quiet care and Madison’s emotional resilience make their dynamic feel warm, believable, and deeply heartfelt.

What stands out most:

* small-town romance atmosphere
* forced proximity / guest house trope
* older brother tension
* single mom representation
* emotional healing journey
* soft, quiet romance moments
* found family warmth

The romance feels tender and grounded, with emotional moments that hit hardest in the quiet scenes rather than the dramatic ones.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars — Absolutely Heart-Stealing!

Beneath the Broken Sky by Emily Scotto completely swept me away. This story is packed with emotion, healing, hope, and one of the most swoon-worthy romances I’ve read in a long time.

Madison is a heroine you can’t help but root for. She’s strong, vulnerable, and doing everything she can to build a better life while carrying the weight of her past. Then there’s Seth—kind, patient, protective, and absolutely deserving of book boyfriend status. The chemistry between them felt natural and heartfelt, and watching their relationship develop had me smiling through so many chapters.

But the true scene-stealer is little Olive. She brought so much warmth, humor, and sweetness to the story that every moment involving her melted my heart. The bond she shares with Madison is beautiful, and seeing Seth become part of their world made the emotional moments hit even harder.

Emily Scotto crafted a story filled with tenderness, resilience, and the reminder that even after life’s hardest storms, love can still find a way through. The romance is swoony, the characters feel real, and the emotional depth kept me fully invested from beginning to end.

If you love heartfelt romances featuring a strong single mother, a hero you’ll fall head over heels for, and an adorable child who steals every scene she’s in, Beneath the Broken Sky is a must-read. I laughed, I teared up, and I closed the final page with a huge smile on my face.

Highly recommend! 💕📚✨

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was a lighthearted, quick and heartwarming weekend read for me. I was instantly drew in by the cover, which I think is absolutely beautiful and was also quite happy for a shorter read, as most of the books I've read recently have been on the longer side.

Beneath the Broken Sky follows our FMC Madison who has the worst night of her life when she and her adorable daughter's home is destroyed in a storm. Her best friend Blair helps her organise staying in the guest house of her brother Seth, so that Madison and Olive have some space whilst their house gets renovated.

What was beautifully written in this novel was the slow but steady development of Seth and Madison's love. It is slow and steady, and quiet. It has no bravado and is not screaming from the rooftop. In this way, Beneath the Broken Sky is unlike any novel that I have read in a while.

I don't really know where to start with this one.
I liked the characters enough, I just did not feel like I learned anything from them throughout the book. We are not given a lot of information regarding their past and personalities outside of why they don't have relationships. They were both guarded but we don't get much context about what happened to them or glimpses to their past bond when they've known each other their whole life. There is no conflict or impediment for them not to be together so I felt like I was reading the same scenes over and over again. I think 50% of the content is them having breakfast and I don't remember any long conversation, just the mention of it. I didn't get to feel the chemistry or the build up. Overall it bored me a lot and I was struggling to finish it.
I had lots of hopes for this story but it really wasn't my cup of tea. I'm still grateful with Naughty Nook for this ARC.

I loved this book so so much 4.5 ⭐️. The standout part about this book was Seth and Olive. One of my favorite things to read is when a child softens either the FMC or MMC. This book was just a good time happy read.

Madison was such a great mom to Olive and I loved their little family of two was cute. The way the author wrote their scenes I could vividly picture it. She was rightfully guarded and loved watching her walls come down.

Seth - I highlighted a lot of what he said or thought. He genuinely cared for Olive and it was so sweet and so special to read. It was fun watching his walls break down and once they did… he went all in for both Madison and Olive. They’re trio family of three was so cute.

I also really liked that there wasn’t any drama regarding Olive’s dad randomly coming back in the picture or Seth’s ex randomly showing up.

4.25/5...a sweet, emotional small-town romance that shines through its heartfelt character development and slow-building relationship. The story does a wonderful job of balancing themes of loss, healing, and second chances while creating a warm, comforting atmosphere filled with found-family charm. Madison and Seth’s chemistry develops naturally, with plenty of tension and tender moments that make their journey feel genuine and rewarding. The emotional stakes are strong, and the small-town setting adds an inviting backdrop to their story. While the pacing occasionally slows in places, the depth of emotion and satisfying romance more than make up for it. A touching and hopeful read for fans of character-driven contemporary romance. Beneath The Broken Sky by Emily Scotto is a heartfelt small-town romance that beautifully blends emotional healing, family bonds, and the power of unexpected love. In this novel, we follow the story of the FMC Madison Cole, a single mother whose life is turned upside down by a devastating storm, and the MMC Seth Cunningham, her best friend's older brother and longtime source of frustration. One of the book's greatest strengths I love was the emotional authenticity between the main characters that is shown through out the novel. Overall, Beneath The Broken Sky is a touching and uplifting romance that delivers memorable characters, heartfelt emotion, and a romance built on patience and understanding.

Book 2 was definitely an improvement over Book 1. The overall storyline is intriguing, and I enjoyed seeing things continue to unfold. There were still a few inconsistencies and contradictions, but nowhere near as many as in the first book.

That said, the pacing was a little too slow for me. It's a very cozy, low-angst romance with a bit of heat, but I found myself wanting more action, drama, or tension to keep me fully engaged. In fact, I may have fallen asleep a few times while reading, because it was such a calm, easygoing story.

If you're looking for a sweet romance that's easy to pick up and put down while relaxing by the pool, this will probably be right up your alley. It doesn't require a lot of mental energy, and it's easy to jump back into after interruptions.

Thank you to the author and Naughty Nook PR for the advanced copy.

What a cute cozy small town, best friend's brother x single mom romance! A storm ruins the house of a single mom, and she needs someone to stay desperately. Her best friend's brother, her sworn frenemy, conveniently has the perfect spot for her in his guesthouse. As the MMC, FMC and her daughter continue their daily lives they end up realizing how well they fit and how much they need each other.

I enjoyed the way the characters interacted with each other, and especially all of the interactions with the FMC's daughter. This was a quick and easy read that gave you the feels. 4.5 stars and limited on the spicy factor (mainly because there are only 2 scenes with any spice).

Beneath the Broken Sky was such a sweet, heartwarming read that completely pulled me in. Seth and Madison’s story was full of quiet moments that ended up meaning the most, and I loved watching their relationship slowly grow into something neither of them expected. Their chemistry felt natural, and I found myself rooting for them from the very beginning.

Seth completely won me over with how patient and caring he was, especially with Olive. Those moments absolutely melted my heart. I also loved the small-town community and the way everyone came together after the storm. It made the story feel so comforting and full of hope. If you’re looking for a romance that’s equal parts emotional, cozy, and full of healing, I’d definitely recommend adding this one to your TBR.

Beneath the Broken Sky is an amazing book about healing, second chances and finding happiness.

It's the kind of book that brings you warmth after a very bad day, it could make you believe that life could still smile to you if you just settle down and open the door tk your happiness without worrying.

Madison Cole lived with her daughter at a very small house that almost fell on their heads during a storm. Luckily, Seth, her best friend's brother had a roof ready for her. At first, it was against both of their wishes to become temproray nighbors, but what if the ones we thought were our enemies turn out to be the one for us.

Single mom, second chance, and all the good stuff that make you breathe again are in this book.

Thank you Naughty Nook PR and Emily Scotto for sending me the ARC of this book!

A small-town romance that I never expected to be the softest, warmest book I’ve ever read! 𝑩𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝑺𝒌𝒚 by Emily Scotto (@authoremilyscotto ) is a delightful, lighthearted romance that still makes me giggle whenever I think about it.

Both Madison and Seth are incredibly relatable characters, and the way they complement each other is just beautiful. Meanwhile, Olive’s character is an absolute standout—she always manages to save the day for our two main characters!

While I found the plot a little repetitive toward the end, the overall pacing was right on point. Emily’s writing style is wonderfully clear and engaging, which completely made up for those few repetitive scenes.

If you are looking for a cozy, feel-good read, I would definitely recommend picking this one up!

eneath the Broken Sky is the second book in the Wisteria Creek series and takes place a couple of years after Pages of Our Past. This novel focuses on Blair's best friend Madison as she tries getting by as a single mother. A storm ends up ruining her house and Blair is like hey you can live in the guest house of my brother Seth until your place is fixed up. Madison and Olive then move into Seth's place. However, over time they realize that some feelings cannot be avoided.

I for one enjoyed this story. Little Olive was the most adorable child character and Madison and Seth's reluctant feelings for moving forward were very justified. I got to say that I was very impressed with how this sequel ended up turning out!

Beneath the Broken sky is a super cute quick small town read. Madison and her daughter are in need of a new place to stay after their home was unfortunately destroyed in a storm. Her childhood best friend's brother, Seth, (whom she never really got along with) just so happens to have a guest home they can stay in. As they begin to see each other more often and spend time together, Madison and Seth's feelings towards each other might be more than what they thought.

If you are looking for a cute, small town, frenemies to lovers romance.. this is the book for you! I really enjoyed reading Beneath the Broken Sky. It was just what I needed to get me out of my reading slump.

This was such a wholesome read. Madison and Seth both had these walls up because they both have been hurt but the way they slowly brought them down for one another was the best. I loved little miss Olive. Every time she was around she managed to steal the moments with her cuteness and the imagination she had was amazing. The way she had Seth melting in her hands from the moment they showed up to his guesthouse. The way she knew he belong in their life from that moment she called him Uncle Seth. I loved the found family dynamic within the community and the slow burn was definitely worth it. The spice was the exact amount that this story needed to just add a little razzle dazzle!

Seth and Madison's relationship was really cute, and I appreciated how he wanted to look after both Madison and her daughter, Olive. Olive is adorable and I love the mother daughter relationship represented in this book. I also really enjoyed Madison and Piper's relationship which we also got to see in the first book in the series. There were times when I did feel like there was too much internal dialogue and I would have loved to have more dialogue between the characters. Overall, it was a sweet little wholesome, small-town romance.

⭐️⭐️⭐️
At first I thought this book was really cute, and I do think it was a sweet book all around. I just really couldn’t get past how irritating I found the dialogue or how frustrating I found the characters/choices to be at times. It felt like the book lacked substance. I do think it was a sweet book though and I added a star for the on page spicy scenes bc I really hadn’t been expecting them once I got the vibe of the story and was pleasantly surprised.

Back in Wisteria Creek, we have Madison's story where she almost instantly is forced to leave her home due to storm damage and Blair, her best friend, suggests she move in with Blair's older brother Seth. He has a guest house and a place for Madison and her daughter, Olive, to stay for as long as they need.

The entire book I was swooning at how sweet and attentive Seth was, regardless of being grumpy he immediately became 'Uncle Seth' to Olive and cared for her like a family member.

While Madison and Seth had issues growing up of being snarky or rude to one another, their chemistry was evident immediately.

I loved this small town cozy romance. Little 4 year old Olive is the life of the story and keeps the adults honest. She is so cute and funny. Love how these childhood friends lower their walls to allow love back into their hearts.

This was a great slow burn read! Two people that had stormy pasts finding a happy ending together was great. A little spice, a little fade to black, yes please. Best friend's brother who used to tease her, why not? Olive was so stinking cute! Absolutely loved the happy ending, including Blair and Greyson's good news. Would love to read more about Wisteria Creek and these two happy couples!

This was such a great frenemies to lovers romance. Madison has damage done to her roof due to a storm, so she moves herself and Olive in with Seth. They don’t really get along so they’re making the best of the situation. But their moments tougher are starting to bring out feelings towards one another, burying the fact that they don’t really get along. It was heat seeing these two move from their past to what would become a sweet future.
