Buffalo Valley

Everyone thinks Vaughn Kyle has come to town to meet Hassie Knight. After all, Vaughn was named after Hassie's dead son, and this is the first time he's come to town. What the folks in town don't know is that Vaughn's fiancée, Natalie Nichols, works for the Value-X conglomerate, and that Natalie has asked Vaughn to use this visit as a scouting trip to evaluate Buffalo Valley as a location for one of their superstores. If that store gets built, it will be goodbye Main Street, including Hassie Knight's drugstore.

Once Vaughn meets Hassie's assistant, Carrie Hendrickson, it doesn't take long for him to realize that he's facing one of the most important choices of his life. He's caught between Value-X and Buffalo Valley, between Natalie's corporate savvy and Carrie's country-girl smarts, and between the future he always envisioned for himself and the appealing way of life that he glimpsed in the unique little town.

Love By Degree

It seemed to be a perfect arrangement.

Ellen Cunningham had decided to go back to college in Seattle. She would get her degree and become the best first-grade teacher around. Money was tight, and she was lucky to find inexpensive lodging in a house with three young college boys.

Though she was only five years older, Ellen played housemother in exchange for low rent, a situation that pleased everyone. Except Reed Morgan, the absentee owner. When he returned unexpectedly, he wasn’t happy to discover his house occupied by a bunch of college boys and Ellen. Especially Ellen…

A bit dragging. Not really Debbie Macomber type.
Last chapter in the second book was very funny though.

Nice little Christmas book with 2 stories. Buffalo Valley and Love by Degree. I enjoyed the first story better with Vaughn and Carrie, and Hassie. Although it seemed to end quite abruptly. The second story with Ellen and Reed wasn’t bad. It was hard to work out what what going on with Reed and Danielle, there wasn’t much about them ending their relationship. It was rather cloak and dagger. The college boys were funny. Derek, Pat and Monte. Worth a read

I have been a fan of Debbie Macomber for many years but haven't read any of her books for a long time. I understand these are 2 older stories in one book. I did enjoy Buffalo Valley but felt Love By Degree was slightly better.

The second story is a four star. The first story is only a three as it has too much catching up with people from previous stories.

I enjoyed both of the stories in this book.

It was lovely to reconnect with all the characters from Buffalo Valley again and to see how small communities can do so much if they work together. Maybe this is a lesson that the world should take on board.
The story involved Cassie and Vaughn. Vaughn is in Buffalo Valley to spend Christmas with his parents but also to do some fact finding work for a company he is going to join after the festive season. Cassie and Vaughn connect but there are bumps in the relationship.

The second story is about Ellen a student who is sharing a house with 3 boys. The house belongs to one of the boys' brother and he comes home (but is unaware that his brother has rented out the other bedrooms in the house). There are sparks between Ellen and Reed (the brother who comes home) but to begin with they do nothing but as the story moves on they can't ignore their feelings. Again the road has bumps.

Both stories were fun reads and well worth a read.
Would recommend to anyone.
