He’s my heartless stepbrother who despises me. I’m the idiot who accidentally sent him some not-so-innocent photos …
Dayton Copeland is the antithesis of fun, sunshine, and sugar, which is everything I stand for. When tragedy strikes, we break our ten-year streak of no contact when we become co-owners of a dilapidated beachfront bungalow. We have one year to agree on what to do with it.
Of course he wants to sell. He spends his nights counting his money.
Between heated arguments about the budget and him crashing in my bedroom to help ‘oversee’ the project, I’m starting to wonder if I was wrong about Dayton’s true feelings for me all along.
When the salacious photos hit his inbox, he responds in a way my ex-husband could never.
The Florida sun is hot, but the tension between us just got ten times hotter.
Right when I think everything might work out, a tropical storm hits, wrecking our progress on the house. Then Dayton’s ex makes a surprise appearance, leaving me to wonder if his intentions with me are pure or if he was always… just another summer enemy.
Just Another Summer Enemy is a small-town summer romcom with broody/secretly obsessed step brother and a taboo forbidden love story. Each book in the Coconut Beach series is a standalone, and you can read the books in any order! Grab some sunscreen and a mimosa and get ready to live the sweet life in Coconut Beach!
This was a fun beachy read!! Stepbrother, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, summer vibes, and some added emotional aspects! I absolutely ate this story up!!
Summer & Dayton were the true definition of enemies to lovers! They met at 15/16 (step siblings) & are pulled back together by tragedy 10 years later. These two had so much tension, banter, and angst between them, but the chemistry was undeniable!! I loved Summer! She was such a relatable FMC & one who absolutely stood her ground. Dayton wasn’t as quick to love, but he definitely won me over and proved to be an amazing MMC!
He has been pining for years, but she has no idea. The build up between these two lead way to the most amazing spice!!! I am loving this coconut beach series & this one was the perfect addition! This book had so many amazing side characters and just made me fall in love. I need to vacation to this little beach town NOW!
3/5🌶️ •step sibilings •billionaire •slow burn •enemies to lovers •one bed •small town •it’s always been you •grumpy x sunshine •ocd rep
“I want to spend forever checking things off our bucket lists together.”
the atmosphere of this book completely swept me away—it felt like being on a sun-soaked beach vacation. everything was warm, intimate, and comforting, like a place where everyone knows each other and you instantly belong. it was pure perfection.
i absolutely adored Summer and Dayton. their banter, the tension, the emotional chaos—it was all so compelling. and while there’s definitely plenty of spice, what stood out most to me was how deeply the story focused on rebuilding trust and healing old wounds. that emotional core made it feel genuinely beautiful.
Summer has carried so much pain over the years, and it’s shaped her into someone with deep trust issues. my heart ached for her, but watching her journey toward healing was incredibly moving. i also loved how oblivious she was to the fact that Dayton has been completely in love with her since they were fifteen.
Dayton is the perfect grumpy, brooding, workaholic type—he’s been quietly pining for Summer for years. it takes him time to open up because he thinks his feelings are wrong, but when he does, it’s everything. he’s so tender, so devoted, and completely gone for her. and that pearl necklace he gave her, with the story behind it? i’m still not over it—that was one of the sweetest moments in the entire book.
the flashbacks added so much depth and really helped bring their history and dynamic to life. overall, i loved every second of this story. and that epilogue? absolutely precious. the final scene with January telling Summer about her mom had me in tears.
The vibes in this book are immaculate! I felt like I was on a beach vacation the entire time ! Dayton and Summer are just so smitten, and I really enjoyed every minute of their love story! That ending !! 😍🥹 FULL RTC

When I saw the list of tropes for this book I knew I had to get my greedy little hands on it! Stepbrother?! YES! Only One Bed? YUPP! ENEMIES TO LOVERS?! ABSOLUTELY YES 🙌🏻 and as my first time reading an Ariel Hendrix book.. I have to say I was very impressed with this entire plot and relationship! Woohoo! Let’s dive in !
Summer and Dayton are step siblings who have never really gotten along. They met as teens when their parents got married and let’s just say they’ve had a bit of a rocky relationship since. Now? Now it’s almost non existent.. which means working together on building and renovating the beach house their parents left them is going to be just a tad difficult.
Between Daytons OCD, his micro managing, his stress about budgets and worries, and his building attraction to his step sister.. this is proving to be a disaster. Summer is in a pointless relationship, she is desperate to claim back some of her sanity and independence after a divorce and death of her mom, and this house could be everything she’s ever dreamed of.. if Dayton will just let her take the reins.
The forced proximity here was fun and delicious and I could really FEEL the hate these two shared.. which made this really fun to read. They’re not so much enemies to me as a strong dislike to lovers situation.. but it was still fun! They definitely got in a few yelling matches that had me really believing their hate for one another (or so it seemed)
I would have liked to see Summer boss up a little bit with her insecurities. I did feel like she was just a tad bit too hard on herself most of the time and she really questioned her self worth a lot when it came to relationships and sex (despite Daytons constant reassurance).
Overall the vibes were there, the story was good and fun, and it really got me hooked with the plot that just kept coming! I’d highly recommend if you are looking for something fun and light hearted to read with a beautiful beach backdrop.
I love a small town, beachy summer romance and add in two of my favorite tropes, enemies to lovers & step-siblings, I will devour it.
Unfortunately, this book didn’t really hit for me. It started off fun but then it just dragged. I never really felt the chemistry between Dayton & Summer and then towards the end, her jealousy made it hard to stay connected to the story.
Okay but THIS BOOK? YES!!!!!! Currently living rent-free in my head and I’m not mad about it.
Summer and Dayton despise each other. They haven’t spoken in YEARS, but when tragedy strikes, they have no choice.
One of the things I loved most about this book is how summery it feels. It’s also set in a small town, which is one of my favorite tropes 🥰 I’m obsessed with small-town romances! 🥰
When we first meet Dayton, I didn’t expect him to be such a gentleman, but then I thought, “this is Ariel’s book… of course he’s going to be book boyfriend material” 🤭 He and Summer have so much chemistry!
This book is part of a series of four interconnected standalones that can be read in any order, so be sure to check out all four!
Oh! I almost forgot to mention: if you’ve also read When Summer Ends by the same author, you’ll be happy to see two very special characters pop up in Coconut Beach!
If you love: ☀️ enemies-to-lovers ☀️ summery, nostalgic vibes ☀️ small-town romance ☀️ found family ☀️ emotional moments that hit when you least expect it
…Just Another Summer Enemy is THE PERFECT pick. It’s soft, angsty, a little chaotic, and has very “this summer is going to change everything” energy. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series!
Step siblings Summer and Dayton have a hard time navigating their relationship. It’s even harder when tragedy strikes them. Now they must take care of a bungalow in need of renovations and decide to sell it or not. While dealing with renovations they have to face the reality of their relationship. Summer has been put through the wringer with a crappy ex husband and ex boyfriend so dealing with Dayton and his hot and cold feelings. All this leads them to face the biggest question can a step brother and step sister who’ve known each other since 15 be together and can it work out. Well the ladies of coconut beach with definitely help them out in figuring that out.
See as much as I wanted to absolutely love this book, read it all and it was nice, i'm so grateful for the arc but this is my least favourite trope and something was stopping me from enjoying it as much :(
Just Another Summer Enemy was an easy to read summer time romance with taboo vibes (step siblings) and some spice. I loved how grumpy Dayton was but he was also all in for Summer. It’s an enjoyable and entertaining read that brings the tension! ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
okay loved this!!! i’ve been reading much slower recently but this book, i did not want to put down. summer and dayton were so good.
dayton pretty much falls for summer the moment he meets her. unfortunately for him, she’s his step sister. fast forward 10 years, they reunite after a horrible accident.
i love a taboo moment so when i saw this was a stepsiblings romance i said sign me up and it did not disappoint!!
Dayton He hasn’t seen Sunmer in 10years when he hears her name it does something to him. You get to see him as this cold man but he isn’t cold intentionally. it’s hardfor him to let anyone in. For him it was always just him and his dad but when his dad decided to get re married again he gained a step sister. But for Dayton she wasn’t a sister for him at all she was the one... the one he knew he could learn to live without but couldn’t and wouldn’t stop dreaming and thinking about her.. Summer is his weakness and he has always done everything to ensure that she would feel that he hated her but what Dayton feels for summer is everything else but hate Dayton has a secret and he holds on to the secret until Summer and him see each other again 10 years later after a tragedy happens in their lives . Will Dayton finally have the courage to tell her how he feels or will he continue to call her Cupcake and act as if he is the same bully she remembers .
Summer she is a gorgeous yoga instructor and photographer. she has been divorced and is in a new relationship with her tool of a bf axel. Summer had been through a lot from being divorced having someone constantly testing her down and making her feel unseen and not wanted. this broke me because summer is an amazing woman she suffered one of the biggest losses a woman can ever go through and trust me it is hard to see past this . All summer wants is for someone to truly see her and value her and love her for who she is . you will see how summer does question herself but it’s not because she wants to but it’s because of how she was treated before . Summer gets a call and she calls him satans spawn which is Dayton she hasn’t seen or spoke to him in 10 years however she has always felt this feeling let me says it isn’t a bad thing lol well they are brought back together and she realizes he more time she spends with him the more she finds an attraction for him little does she know that spending some time in the beach house may actually bring them together
This was by far one of my favorite books and let me tell you I couldn’t put it down I have this book a 5 star ⭐️ but truly because this book was truly written for all of us woman who have been in a situation similar to this !! I fell in love with both characters not because of the spicy scenes but because this showed me that when you finally find yoir person it makes it all worth it!
I picked this up thinking cute summer read… and ended up fully invested in the tension, the angst, and the “it’s always been you” of it all Just Another Summer Enemy by Ariel Hendrix is giving enemies to lovers but make it charged, complicated, and just a little taboo (stepbrother energy). And listen, this man being a secret billionaire?? I ate that up. The banter? Sharp. The tension? Constant. The chemistry? Absolutely refusing to be ignored. What I really loved though under all the summer romance vibes, there’s mental health representation woven in a way that actually adds depth and doesn’t feel like an afterthought. It made the story hit a little harder than I expected. It’s messy, it’s emotional, it’s why are you two like this but also don’t stop. The small town + summer setting?? Felt like sunburn, late nights, and bad decisions you don’t regret. Also this is part of the Coconut Beach series (4 interconnected summer books by different authors). If you love: enemies to lovers forbidden/taboo tension “it’s always been you” energy summer romances with a little emotional depth this one’s for you. I’m not saying I’m in my summer romance era but I might be eager for summer 🌊.
Y aparte secret billionaire?
OMG this book was so good!! I'm actually giving this a 4.75!
This is book 4 of the Coconut Beach series and it couldn't have been HOTTER!! It was the perfect ending to the series. I think starting with Lyra Parish and ending it with Ariel Hendrix was perfect! I was able to get Just Another Summer Crush and Just Another Summer Enemy as an ARC and I was so excited! Coconut Beach is now a place I want to go to. Each book in the series can be read as a stand alone but reading the series was so much fun. This book made me want to learn how to do yoga and drink mimosa's.
-Step brother -Billionaire -Secret Pining -One bed -Enemies to lovers -It's always been you
Summer and Dayton are the farthest thing from family. Their parents got married when they both were in high school. Dayton was Summer's bully. When Summer and her mom moved to Coconut Beach, he made her life a living hell. So much so that he punched prom date and made sure no one would date her.
When Dayton calls Summer for the first time in ten years she doesn't answer. When she finally does, her world is turned upside down. Their parents have suddenly died and now she's faced seeing the one person she never wanted to see again.
The two find out that their parents bought a dilapidated bungalow before they died and have left it to them. They have one year to agree on all of the renovations and then they can either sell it or keep it. Dayton is all about the money. He wants to make sure they stay on budget. He wants the house to be boring and sterile, not a home like Summer wants to. When he shows up to keep an eye on things Summer is forced to share her one bedroom studio with him. Suddenly Summer starts to feel things for Dayton and wonders if she has been wrong about him for all these years.
With the way Dayton has treated her over the years can she believe his feelings are real or will he continue to be just another summer enemy?
3.75 Star Review Just Another Summer Enemy by Ariel Hendrix I love the world of coconut beach, it is such a peaceful costal small town. This being an interconnected series is so fun, I really enjoyed getting to reunite with the characters from the previous books. Summer and Dayton are dealing with a tough time after their parents pass away. They’re step-siblings with a big rivalry, and both are incredibly intense and unique characters. Summer, lives in Coconut Beach, she is a truly wholesome and lively character. She’s also been through toxic relationships and a miscarriage that affected her confidence. Dayton, on the other hand, is a ‘grumpy’ businessman who’s secretly been in love with her. He also has OCD. Unfortunately, I felt a bit disconnected from them and thought they were both a bit immature. Their rivalry felt unnecessary to me; I understand their initial feelings about their parents’ relationship, but they’re adults now. And Dayton’s act of pretending to be a jerk around her at the beginning of the book because it’s “easier” just felt unneeded. If they had more of a reason for their hatred or approached the situation differently, I think their chemistry would have been even better. I really enjoyed everything else, though! The writing, dialogue, side characters, setting and descriptions were all so well thought out and detailed. That birthday gift he got for her was so sweet, and that little scene was definitely one of my favourites. The book’s ending was so sweet that it wrapped up perfectly, and I really enjoyed seeing their growth and finding their HEA! I really enjoyed this book overall, but I found the characters’ actions in the first half a bit hard to follow. However, once the story picked up, it was so much fun to read that I’d definitely recommend it, everyone’s tastes are different after all!
This book is part of an interconnected series that can be read in any order, with each installment written by a different author, which keeps things fresh and unpredictable.
Dayton and Summer became step-siblings in high school, and to put it lightly… he made her life miserable. She swore she’d never be anywhere near him again, and for ten years, she kept that promise. No contact, no run-ins, nothing. Until one phone call flips everything upside down and suddenly they’re co-owners of a house that desperately needs renovating. Now they’re stuck working together. The question is whether they can survive each other long enough to finish the job… or if all that buried tension is about to spark into something else.
This is truly enemies-to-lovers at its sharpest edge. Summer doesn’t just dislike Dayton, she *actively* wants nothing to do with him. No conversations, no eye contact, no shared oxygen if she can help it. Her past relationships haven’t exactly helped either, leaving her guarded and skeptical of anything resembling love.
Dayton, on the other hand, is all work and zero play. He’s built a successful business and keeps his emotions locked down tight. But underneath that control is one inconvenient truth: the only woman he’s ever really wanted is the one he was never supposed to have.
The banter is biting, the tension is constant, and the emotional chaos between them makes the story hard to put down. The high school flashbacks add just enough context to understand how things went so wrong in the first place. There are plenty of spicy moments, but what stands out most is how the story focuses on rebuilding trust and healing old wounds.
Overall, a fun, angsty read with sharp dialogue, slow-burning tension, and a satisfying, sweet ending.
This is my honest review of Just Another Summer Enemy
This is easily my favourite in the Coconut Beach series. I have never read a stepbrother romance before, but honestly, he is not related to Summer at all. Sharing a house for two years does not make you family. This is the fourth book in the series and was a great way to end it, but I wish we could keep visiting this fabulous paradise island and keep in touch with all the characters!
Summer had a rough start to life, especially romantically so she is justified and realistic in being sceptical of Dayton when he is suddenly being kinder to her. She tries to keep him at arms length, but starts to struggle with a magnetic pull that she just cannot explain. I love how she tried to protect her heart and stay true to herself.
Dayton is not a very complicated man, he is simply in love with Summer and will try to win her over however he can. I loved how he was not pushy, but persistent in trying to show her affection. The moment when the line gets crossed this man goes feral for her and shows her exactly what his true feelings have been all along!
His OCD representation was accurate and a nice addition, especially as someone who suffers from this too. Compulsion can be very controlling and difficult to manage without proper support/management techniques in place.
Their mutual respect for each other’s struggles were so indicative of their true feelings for each other and how they would not judge the other for past choices, mistakes, or life experiences.
This is a great enemies-to-lovers romance that delved into emotional healing and trauma and accepting one’s true feelings in order to have the future you deserve!
Just Another Summer Enemy is an entertaining read that gives us Summer who is living her best life running Yoga classes and taking photographs of her boyfriend Axel surfing for him to post on his social media pages, and spending lots of time hanging with her best friend Savannah, until she gets a call from her stepbrother, she hasn’t spoken to him for ten years, she wasn’t about to answer his call now, so when Sav’s phone rang and she handed it to her she couldn’t believe it was Dayton again! He was calling with the worst possible news that would change her life forever. Summer found herself moving to Coconut Beach to stay until the house that she and Dayton were left is renovated and ready for sale, she is staying in the studio at the back of the house. There has been a history between Summer and Dayton, she has accused him of bullying her since she came to live with him and his Dad with her Mum when she was 15 and he was 16, he has had feelings for her but not known how to handle it since the start. With the renovation underway and Dayton coming in from Miami to check on progress and spending time with Summer, their chemistry is fire, Summer feels like it’s wrong for her to have any sexual feelings or want anything more with Dayton because of the stepbrother relationship and that her mother would be disappointed, and Dayton has the same thoughts in relation to his father but Dayton has loved Summer for more than ten years, now that he has seen her again, she is all he can think of! Will they get the chance to get together, will their love win through? Once I started I couldn’t put the book down. I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book via BookFunnel and I am writing this review voluntarily
Ahh the last book in this fantastic summer rom-com! This whole series has been fantastic. And Just Another Summer Enemy was perfection. This was such a fun, addictive read, that had me non-stop flipping pages. This was one of the best enemies to lovers books I've read. There was just the right mix of tension, humor, and heart-warming that made this such a fun cozy read. There was definitely an emotional punch when it comes to Dayton and Summer and their past and recent events.
Dayton is that enemy that you just love to watch unravel and lose all control of the things he's held so tight. He comes across as the confident, slightly irritated, but you quickly learn that there's a lot more going on beneath the surface. His relationship with Summer was perfect watching it unfold. He went from constantly pushing her buttons to genuinely caring, and those little moments of softness make his character so much more lovable.
Summer is the strong, independent woman. She is witty and not afraid to stand her ground, especially when it comes to Dayton. She refers to him as "satan" so she has no love in her heart for him...hahaha!
Together they have amazing chemistry. Their banter is sharp and funny, and the tension between them builds in that slow, satisfying way that makes enemies to lovers so addicting. You can feel that shift that happens when it goes from irritation to something deeper, and it's handled in a way that keeps you hooked.
Overall, this series and this book is the perfect summer rom-com. It's light, entertaining, and full of personality, but it also doesn't skip out on the emotional piece. If you love enemies to lovers with great banter and a couple you can't stop thinking about, this one is definitely worth the read.
Summer- Hates Dayton. They've had an estranged relationship. Not speaking for over ten years they are brought together by a tragedy. She has endured a lot of pain throughout the years. My heart broke for her. Her healing journey is everything. 💖
Dayton- very grumpy, broody. He's all work and no play. He's been pining for summer for years and figured it was easier to "hate" her than to have feelings for her. He takes a bit to warm up to but once those couple layers are peeled back 😍 he's swoon worthy.
They become co owners of a beachfront bungalow and have a year to decide what to do with it. Dayton immediately wants to sell so cue the arguing immediately! True enemies to lovers energy.
The author does a great job with the tension and angst. The spice is spicy and everything is perfectly balanced. Loved the OCD rep.
I loved the flashbacks into the past. Really helped with understanding their dynamic. The banter is fantastic. There's a whole healing old wounds and building trust element that brought so much depth to this story. This is a slow burn that is very satisfying and has the sweetest ending. 😍🥹
This is part of the coconut Beach series. There's 4 books total, all standalones and can be read in any order. Really enjoying the author collab of this whole series!
This one leans into that sharp, emotional push-and-pull—the kind where every interaction feels charged and a little unpredictable.
The tension is there from the start, building into a slow burn that keeps you waiting for the moment everything finally shifts. The banter has an edge to it, and the chemistry sits right underneath all that frustration.
There’s something about summer settings that makes everything feel more intense, and this story really plays into that—messy emotions, guarded hearts, and feelings that don’t stay hidden for long.
I really appreciated how she touched on topics of grief and OCD in a thoughtful, respectful way—it added emotional depth without taking away from the story’s momentum.
Dayton is a grumpy, overprotective MMC that we love to see, especially because he struggles to show and express his feelings, which adds another layer to his character. Summer is a breath of fresh air—confused by her feelings and insecurities, but easy to root for as she tries to navigate them.
Of course, January and the Bees add some fun and humor. It’s also great to revisit other characters from the series while getting to know some new ones as well.
If you love an enemies-to-lovers dynamic with attitude, tension, and just enough vulnerability breaking through, this one hits that vibe. a moody, tension-filled summer escape
This book is part of an interconnected series that can read in any order. All of them are also written by different authors!
Dayton and Summer became step siblings in high school. He made her life miserable and vowed to never be near him again. Which is why they haven’t spoken or seen each other in 10 years. Until, a phone call changed both of their lives and they are stuck as co owners for a house that needs renovating. Can they put their differences aside until it’s finish and go their own ways. Or will their attraction to each other lead them to where they should be all along?
True definition of enemies to lovers. Summer truly hates Dayton. Doesn’t even want to hear his voice, see his face, just absolutely nothing. Summer has had a lot of rocky relationships with men. They have all disappointed her and none of them have been a passionate love.
Dayton is truly an all work and no play. He’s built himself a great business and doesn’t let love get in the way of it. Might be cause the one girl he’s ever wanted was the one girl he could never have.
I love the banter, chaos, and angst the two have towards another. It was a fun read and some of the high school flashbacks was enough to understand their dynamo and how they came to be. There was plenty of spicy scenes but I loved that this was more focused of how they mended their relationship. The ending was cute!
Fantastic read! This is book 4, the last, in the multi author Coconut Beach series and follows Summer and Dayton’s story. This was a stepbrother, enemy to lovers story full of angst, banter and a belief that they both disliked each other passionately. That was farthest from the truth for Dayton. Ever since meeting her as a teen he had feelings for her that he knew could go nowhere. So that is where his bad behaviour came in and Summer disliking him with a passion. The flashbacks definitely added to the storyline explaining how the long ago actions shaped their current relationship and anger now. After a tragic accident they find themselves receiving a joint inheritance of a dilapidated beachfront bungalow that needs to be renovated. However there are stipulations of the will which keep pushing them together, their dynamic shifts and Summer sees Dayton in a different light. Will they give into the attraction they are feeling for each other? Loved this slow burn, steamy story with all its fabulous characters and its sweet ending. I have absolutely loved every single one of the books in this series and am sad that it has now finished. It has been a pleasure to read them all. Thank you Ariel Hendrix for the opportunity to read this story.
✨Book Review✨ Just Another Summer Enemy Book 4 in The Coconut Beach Series Rating: 4.5⭐️ Spice: 2🌶️
Mkkk excuse me while I continue to gush over the sexiest stepbrother in Coconut Beach! This is my first book by Ariel and y’all I’m hooked! She delivers everything: the slowwww burn tension, unrelenting banter, comedic energy, and those laid back coastal vibes that make you wish you were living inside the pages. Who doesn’t want to be surrounded by sunshine, waves, and sandy beaches?!
The step sibling/forced proximity trope? Absolutely top tier. The 10 years since seeing each other had me weak in the knees! Getting inside their heads before everything unravels had me kicking my feet, just waiting for that “f**k it” moment to hit.
Dayton and Summer were such a breath of fresh air. I adored Summer’s bright, magnetic personality! Dayton’s character development easily made him a new favorite book boyfriend.
If you’re looking for the perfect beach read packed with summer vibes and tension sharp enough to cut, Just Another Summer Enemy needs to be in your hands ASAP.
Tropes •step siblings (later in life) •he falls first •it’s always been you •beachy vibes •forced proximity •dislike to lovers •one bed
This book has all the tropes I love. Enemies to lovers, taboo (step siblings), one bed.
Summer & Dayton first met at age 15 & 16 when Summer’s mum & Dayton’s dad fell in love. Ever since that first meeting in Coconut Beach, Dayton has kept his distance from Summer. Summer was of the opinion that Dayton hated her, calling her Cupcake as an insult, keeping boys away from her at high school, ruining her prom. Dayton moved away to New York as soon as he could, becoming a very successful businessman. Summer went back home to California as soon as she could, avoiding Dayton completely.
But a tragic call out of the blue brings them both back to Coconut Beach, & forces them to begin a year long stipulation in their parents wills.
Summer is convinced Dayton is making things difficult on purpose, & these step siblings who didn’t speak for 10 years & have polarising views of each other - it truly is a love/hate relationship.
As the year progresses, Dayton struggles to keep a lid on his feelings for Summer, & - much to her dismay - she begins to have feeling for him.
Can Summer get over the way Dayton has treated her, & can he convince her of the real reason for his actions.
This was my very first book of Ariel’s and I can honestly say it will not be my last! This book was such a fun, hottie little summer romance.. add in a stepbrother, and you’ve got a perfect beach read! Dayton and Summer were such a good time, and I truly loved every second of their story. From them truly believing they were enemies and the hate for one another was strong.. only to find out that it really came down to an “it’s always been you”. I enjoyed having an OCD rep, because not many books have this, and it makes those of us with it feel so SEEN when we do come across it. If you’re looking for the perfect little beach read, definitely pick this one up.. and ALSO the covers? Yeah. You need both shelf trophies! ☀️🩷🏖️👙🐚🥥
NOW.. there are absolutely a few things that didn’t make sense or felt really repetitive. There was a few times that the actual timelines didn’t flow, and in the same parts were talking about multiple days. But overall, still made for a good summer read!
Thank you Ariel and Jessi for the ARC, I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read this one!
For the most part, Just Another Summer Enemy was a fun reading. Summer and Dayton are step-siblings who hate each other and find themselves owners of a bungalow after their parents die.
I enjoyed their banter and found myself laughing many times. The tension between them definitely had them burning the sheets when they finally caved in and it was hot. But my issue with their story was that Summer hated Dayton so much for a big chunk of the book. And I didn't believe completely that she loved him by the time the book ended.
Dayton was all in. He was a down bad man with regrets and I believed he was sorry for what he did to her. This man loved her. And I believed him because we learned about his feelings and regrets early in the story. But Summer found out the truth of his love and reasons late in the book and I didn't feel it was enough time for me to believe her love connection. It felt a bit one-sided in that part.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed most of the story and I think that if you love forbidden vibes, true enemies to lovers and sexual tension, you will have a lot of fun with this book.
Just Another Summer Enemy is one of four Coconut Beach rom coms that can be read in any order or as stand alone. The FMC Sumner is a yoga instructor slash photographer who moves back to Coconut Beach after her mom and stepdad are killed in a plane crash. Summer inherits the house they’ve just bought and that needs renovating. The catch: the co owner is her stepbrother who she’s hated since she met him 13 years ago. They have one year to renovate the house and figure out what they want to do with it, or it will be sold and they’ll split the profits. While renovating, Summer lives in the small studio apartment in the backyard, while her stepbrother Dayton navigates between NY, Miami and Coconut Beach, making her life difficult.
