Mia Voss walked away from a promising competitive climbing career to chase something deeper in the silence of stone and sky. Free soloing brings her the peace she craves despite the danger, the judgment, and the loneliness of summits that seem to scrape the edge of heaven.

Alex Kerrigan, a seasoned search and rescue ranger, doesn’t have time for thrill-seekers—especially not ones who climb without ropes. But something about Mia gets under her skin. She's uninhibited, magnetic, and maybe more fractured than she’s letting on.

When a stunt turns into a disaster, their lives and hearts collide on the face of Longs Peak. What begins as a rescue becomes a breaking point—for survival, for truth, and for the rare stillness of being known.

Everything That Falls is an exhilarating novel of emotional grit, breathtaking risk, and an intimate romance set against the unforgiving beauty of the wild.

My heart was RACING reading this, giiiiiirl was I so stressed.

Not only was they’re plenty of fingernail biting moments, it kept you interesting continuously. The timeline flowed pretty well, it felt a bit quick at first but evened out by the end.

I know absolutely NOTHING about rock climbing or really any extreme sport, but I can assume Nicole Disney did her research because it seemed like it.

I had a love-hate relationship with Alex. Kinda wanted to smack her, kinda wanted to give her a big hug. Mia has my HEART though, I loved her character and her story was so beautiful.

One thing I didn’t love, and is why the book didn’t get 5 stars, was the writing style. It’s becoming more popular I feel, and it’s when sentences are one to two words to dramatize the scene or whatever. But I’m not a fan of that kind of writing, it feels somewhat like a short cut to making things seem more intense. It just ends up being annoying.

Overall I loooooved this story, which I knew I would. Whenever I see Nicole Disney’s name I have to pick up the book because I know it’ll be a solid one.

This was such nail biter to read! I know nothing about free soloing but I learned a lot by reading Everything That Falls. I loved that we were able to see both perspectives of the MCs when it came to how they felt about free soloing. The way the author writes it allows the reader to objectively see both sides. They both have valid feelings and thoughts.

This is so much more than a love story or a recovery story/ redemption story. Yes, it’s a part of it and it’s amazing to see Mia work back to doing what she loves after a life changing fall. It’s adorable to see Alex help her and I loved the way the author had us see her internal struggle with allowing Mia to be free and do what she loves but also be absolutely terrified of losing her. With her history(no spoilers), it makes complete sense.

Ultimately this is a love story about allowing those you love be who they are. Loving them without changing them. “You let people be who they are, and you love them for it. If you can’t do that, let her go.”

If you’re wanting an adventure filled story of growth with romance, Everything That Falls delivers just that! 4.5 stars!

This Book was breathtaking and I mean that quite literally!
I loved it. Nicole Disney has done it again. I‘ve become quite a fan of her books since I’ve read her incredible MMA Themed Stories.

Her style of writing will glue you to the pages and throw you right into the scene with the characters.
My hands were sweating, and I caught myself holding my breath multiple times throughout the book.
I am not a climber myself, but I was able to feel it all. The Adrenaline, the pain and the Exhaustion.

The chemistry and connection between the two MC‘s were genuine and believable. They might have needed a bit of time to warm up to each other and over come their fears, but at the end they found and saved each other.

If you like outdoorsy stories, the rush of adrenaline along side a bit of romance. This will definitely be a read for you. If you are afraid of heights and a vivid reader like me, I wish you good luck. 😅

Nicole Disney’s Everything That Falls hooked me immediately with its one-of-a-kind storyline and held my attention from the opening scene all the way through to the final page. The action sequences are gripping and vividly written, making it easy to picture every moment. The mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park feel almost like characters themselves, adding incredible depth to the story. I even found myself searching each location online just to follow along with the characters’ journey.

Free soloing is a sport many people struggle to understand, and Alex is no exception. During their first few encounters, her questions Mia about the risks and choices she makes. Mia’s confidence and unapologetic nature only deepen Alex’s fascination and confusion. As the story unfolds, unexpected accidents shift the dynamics between them, and Mia’s road to recovery, both physically and emotionally, becomes an incredibly difficult journey.

Alex’s reluctance to fully open up to Mia is understandable given what happened with her sister. Still, the walls she puts up leave Mia deeply hurt. Thankfully, Mia’s patience never wavers, allowing the two of them to slowly build a connection that feels impossible to break. Their romance is beautiful, but it’s only one piece of what makes this story so compelling.

Each of the Edge Walkers brings something special to the story, adding depth and personality in their own way. Their bond with Mia is truly remarkable, and the adventures and daring stunts they take on are equal parts wild and awe-inspiring. I especially loved the banter between them and the genuine care and loyalty they share with one another.

In the end, Everything That Falls is so much more than a romance; it’s a story about resilience, trust, healing, and finding strength in the most unexpected places. Heart-pounding adventure blends perfectly with deeply emotional moments, creating characters and relationships that stay with you long after the final page. From the breathtaking mountain settings to the unforgettable bonds between the characters, this book completely captured my attention. If you enjoy stories filled with action, emotional depth, found family, and romance, this is one I highly recommend.

I was kept clinging to the edge of the cliff as I swept through the pages of this story. Set the day aside before you start it because you won’t want to put it down.

Short Summary

Mia comes from an athletic family, climbing is in her blood, but when she leaves the competitive circuit to do free solo climbs, she shocks everyone. Mia is able to find peace in free solo climbing and has joined up with her crew perform epic stunts and share them on their socials.

Alex is a Forest Ranger and is in charge of search and rescue. Rules and policies are where she finds comfort.

Mia and Alex are incredibly different. One finds comfort in structure and the other in not having strings (ropes) attached.

Review

I could not put this book down! The tension was palpable from the first pages and it continued to keep my on the edge until the very last chapter.

The only thing I knew about free soloing was that just the idea of it scared the crap out of me; after reading Everything That Falls it may scare me even more. But what Nicole Disney was able to do was make me understand the freedom, peace, and space it offers.

The emotions are captured so well in the writing and provide a window into the soul of the characters. With the book being told in a dual POV it really provided insight into the outward appearance versus the inner turmoil. How often do we try to show a different emotion than we actually feel.

As a first responder myself I found the description, process, the weighing of risk, and the discomfort so well explained. The writing provided me with words for feelings I’ve had far too many times and is not often explored, thank you for this.

Being open to understanding the why behind someone’s choices, especially those you don’t initially agree with, can bring you closer. We see this through the relationship with Alex and Mia as they grow through openness and trust.

This book was a freaking roller coaster with the ups and downs, changes in direction, the fear, and the exhilaration. And believe me it is well worth the ride!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Let me be clear straight off the bat: This IS a romance but not before it’s a love story about life, purpose, identity, legacy. Not before it’s poetry on the raw power of nature. I came for the fun and got something much more memorable. This really is a story about grit and determination, and what happens in the aftermath of recognising your own mortality. Parts of this are just so beautifully written. All of it is intense.

One of my favourite things about a well written story is its ability to make me interested in topics I have never bothered with before. Did I go into this with any interest in free climbing before? No. Have I even considered rock climbing for fun? Absolutely not. Do I now feel passionately about the sport and did I spend hours last night watching tik tok’s ‘most extreme free solo climbs’? You bet I did. What a talent for an author to allow you into their world but also hand you the keys to other doors too. Incidentally, I now also have a new thing for female lumberjacks…take what you will from that.

With all of that said, this is still a WLW romance and I am the WLW book communities worst critic (because whyyyyyyy are they always so dreadful!?) so buckle in.

…only joking, this totally proved me wrong:

Firstly, what a treat to read WLW romance where the entire plot isn’t around sexual identity crisis. Sexual orientation is such a non-point in this book it doesn’t even get referenced and it is SO refreshing.

Second, Mia and Alex are such compelling protagonists - fierce, brave, vulnerable, flawed. Their relationship development is sweet, believable and then woaaaah sexy (Nicole doesn’t shy away from a sex scene). The steamy parts are clearly written by a sane woman - no horrendous swimming pools, dental dams, extremely pornagraphic scissoring in sight. Phew!

My only major criticism of the book is that some parts were too quick. I wish we spent more time on the mountain, physically. I wish we slowed down on that long night. I wish we changed the damn book cover to something grittier and less YA.

Final thought: If you liked ‘Atmosphere’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid, you will almost certainly enjoy this for all of the reasons above.

Nicole Disney’s Everything That Falls completely swept me away. Set against the breathtaking and dangerous backdrop of Rocky Mountain National Park, this book delivers equal parts adrenaline, emotion, and sapphic romance with two unforgettable women at its center.

Mia Voss is a former child prodigy climber who walked away from the pressure of professional climbing to chase freedom through free climbing and dangerous stunts with her crew, The Edge Walkers. She’s fearless, reckless, phenomenally talented, and still deeply scarred by the expectations placed on her when she was younger. Opposite her is Alex Kerrigan, a park ranger devoted to rules, safety, and protecting others at all costs. Their chemistry is immediate.

The climbing scenes in this book genuinely had my heart racing. Mia’s near-fatal accident had my palms sweating the same way they did watching Free Solo and seeing Alex Honnold suspended thousands of feet in the air. Nicole Disney captures both the thrill and sheer terror of climbing so well that I felt like I was hanging off the mountain alongside them.

What I loved most, though, was how the relationship evolved. Alex’s fear of losing Mia, shaped by the loss of her sister years earlier, kept her from fully accepting the risks that make Mia who she is. But when Alex has an accident of her own and Mia is the one forced to save her, everything shifts. It finally allows them to truly understand each other. Alex learns how to live a little more freely, while Mia finds balance by returning to a more structured professional climbing life. I loved that they changed each other without losing themselves in the process.

I absolutely loved this book — the characters, the climbing, the tension, and especially the relationship between these two strong women. It was thrilling, emotional, romantic, and impossible to put down.

🖤 MY READING EXPERIENCE
Nicole Disney absolutely knocked this one out of the park. The story throws you straight into the adrenaline-fueled world of extreme athletes and never lets go. From the very first chapter I was completely locked in. Then the survival aspect kicked in and I genuinely could not stop reading. Every scene felt so vivid and intense that I could practically feel the cold, fear, exhaustion, and desperation right alongside them. This book consumed me.

💭 CHARACTER THOUGHTS
These women were such absolute badasses. Alex risking her life as a rescue ranger in the Colorado wilderness already made her compelling, but Mia being a solo free climber had my anxiety through the roof. I immediately had to Google it and somehow the real-life knowledge made this book even more stressful. Their dynamic was so good because underneath all the adrenaline and danger was this deep tenderness and protectiveness toward each other that completely melted me.

🔥 MOMENTS I’M STILL THINKING ABOUT
The rescue scene. Holy. Hell. The lengths Alex was willing to go to bring Mia off that mountain had my heart in my throat. The love, determination, and sheer desperation in those moments were written SO well. Easily one of my favorite scenes I’ve read this year.

⚠️ ONE SMALL NOTE

If I could give it 10 stars I would! Nicole Disney writes the best action packed, page turner you can't put down with characters you fall in love with! The sex scenes are so hot 🔥made hotter by the excellent story that has you on pins and needles.

There's an awesome cast of characters to love along with the main couple Alex and Mia. I would date Lana too 😁. I love real characters with real flaws and lives to grow from. Alex was so relatable, loving, and protective, plus I love a sexy life saver! Mia is athletic perfection, strength and beauty with a free spirit who's impossible not to love. They clash at first which makes for a sexy and fun adventure that keeps you rooting for them.

There are comedic moments I love in this book along with moments you can't read fast enough until you know what happens. One thing Nicole Disney does better than any other author I've read in her books The Clinch and Tapout and now Everything That Falls, is gripping, raw, visually stunning, story telling. The way she desribes the scenic mountains both beautiful and terrifying was excellent writing. I'm amazed at her ability to capture extreme sports like MMA and free solo climbing and make you feel every moment. She makes me wish I could live in these worlds and I hate it when the books ends!

This book was very much focussing on rock climbing that I have no experience of whatsoever. The author managed to convince me that very dramatic and interesting though, so I very much enjoyed reading about the daredevil free climber Mia and the responsible rescuer Alex. Mia sees the freedom in free soloing and how she must be perfect, no mistake allowed. Alex sees her as a phenom with a God complex.

Mia is so good that free soloing usually works like a charm until a day it doesn’t and she falls. Alex and her rescue team alerted, and she finds Mia alive but barely. That night when Alex is there to protect Mia when they wait for rescue, they connect, start to understand each other a bit and clear they are into each other even if very hard to make that work, they think so differently about risks and fear.

I really liked to read about the journey back for Mia, after a while supported by Alex in an amazing way. Alex struggles with Mia’s view on taking risks, and Mia feels she wants to put her in a cage, for Mia it is the only place where she can breathe.

Mia is quite a challenge to like for me. Ok she is this free bird, but risking your life daily, that is just crazy. Thus, I had some issue s to really connect to the story in the book.

For readers who have never set foot on a rock face, let alone scaled one, Everything That Falls by Nicole Disney offers something rare: the visceral, breathless experience of climbing without ever leaving the page. At the heart of this sapphic romance is a protagonist whose passion for rock climbing is rendered with such vivid, tactile precision that even the most earthbound reader will feel the burn in their forearms and the vertigo of the drop below.

Disney’s writing is a masterclass in embodied storytelling. She doesn’t simply describe climbing, she inhabits it. The way she captures the micro-decisions of finding a hold, the mental calculus of risk versus reach, and the particular silence that exists between a climber and the rock makes you feel like a participant rather than an observer. As someone with no background in climbing whatsoever, I was astonished to find myself completely absorbed in the technical and emotional texture of every ascent.

Everything That Falls is the kind of book that reminds you why fiction matters, it puts you inside lives and bodies and landscapes you’ve never known, and makes them feel like home. It is a beautifully rendered reminder that opening yourself to love is its own kind of climb; terrifying, uncertain, and worth every moment of the risk.

This novel is a genuine delight for anyone who loves the outdoors, high-stakes adventure, and a romance that earns its emotional payoff. Mia’s world of free soloing is rendered with stunning authenticity — the silence, the danger, the strange peace of being alone on rock and sky. What makes this story stand out is its honest portrayal of fear. Being afraid is not framed as weakness here; it is part of the climb, part of being human. Mia and Alex both carry personal fears and fractures, and watching them face those with courage — and vulnerability — gives the romance real weight. The personal stories woven through the narrative beautifully illuminate who these women are at their core.

The chemistry between Mia and Alex is magnetic from the start, but it never feels rushed. Their dynamic — free-spirited climber meets grounded rescue ranger — creates natural tension that keeps the pages turning. The backdrop of Longs Peak is almost a character in itself, and the collision of their worlds on that mountain face is both thrilling and deeply moving. For readers who appreciate a love story that breathes fresh mountain air rather than familiar tropes, this one stands apart.

Everything That Falls is my second book by Nicole Disney, and one thing is for sure, she knows how to write a sports romance that has me holding my breath.

I love how she dives deep into the psyche of the athlete. Whether you like the sport in question or not, it’s impossible to resist the pull that makes you invested.
I’m part of the group of people who consider people doing these dangerous, life-threatening disciplines to be crazy, but I respect and admire their drive and the guts they have. Everything That Falls offers another perspective as we get inside Mia’s mind and discover her motivations.

I love how her romance with Alex is approached. I’m obsessed with the way they meet, and how their paths cross again. They are two opposites by their profession, but also by their view on free soloing.
I love Alex so much because I totally get where she comes from and would react the same if I were in her place, but also because she faces her fears and takes the leap despite the danger.

Another quality of the author’s writing is how descriptive and detailed it is with the technicalities of the sport. It helps making the story immersive.

Everything That Falls was a great discovery of free soloing and an amazing sports romance that had me hanging on the edge of a cliff.

5⭐️ Awesome. This was terrific and by far her best book to date. IMO.

Mia Voss is a solo free climber, she and three friends have formed a team of daredevils, Mia the free solo climber, Katie the kayaker, Echo the stunt sky diver and Wes the techie who films their feats and posts them on line to their channel.

Alex Kerrigan is a park ranger, specializing in rescue operations at Rocky Mountain National Park. Alex is extra cautious in her work and is always prepared. She has suffered a family loss and can't get over it being her fault.

Even though I knew that Alex would end up rescuing Mia, I was not prepared for the very emotional aspect that Nicole Disney adds to the writing. She does a fantastic job of exploring all the deep emotions that Mia and Alex each have separately and together. Simply said, I loved this book, the scenes in the mountains are fantastic and the relationship between Mia and Alex is wonderful.

Each of Disney's books gets better than the last and I can't wait to read another of her books. I totally recommend this one to all outdoor enthusiasts and fans of Nicole Disney.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this gripping novel

mia is an edge walker..... she free solos up cliff walls meaning no ropes just herself and her body against the elements.... with her other edge walkers they go the extra mile and everyone knows their names

alex is a search and rescue ranger and though she doesnt approve of what the edge walkers stand for she doesnt stand in the way for their permit to climb the mountain

its a blistering day when mia starts out but things change quickly on the mountain its a race to the top before it gets out of control.....

its alex when the call goes out that mia has fallen..... against the odds and the weather she and her group of volunteers have to make headway to see if mia is alive or how to retrieve her body....

ohhhh man this book gave me chills just reading it... i was hooked right from the beginning till the end... at times it wasnt an easy read but i was invested in seeing how everything could be worked out.... alive or dead....

and i wasnt disappointed at all.....

cant wait for the next book from this author

This was intense, gripping and nerve wracking. I don't know much about rock climbing but I always do my research while reading, on basically everything I don't know about. So by the end I come out a little more knowledgeable after the fact.

The story is intense as it would be when you're high up in the mountains. Accidents can and usually do happen.

I found almost all the characters lovable each in their unique way. All except Echo and Wes. I saw them as selfish and inconsiderate, especially Echo who was also arrogant. It's blatant peer pressure on Mia, forcing her to live up to their unrealistic expectations. Compounded by Mia's desperate need to feel accepted and validated.

Mia and Alex were both relatable. One to be free without restrictions and the other to be protective with restrictions. Their opposing views are all based on their respective pasts. It is a need to find a common ground after difficulties that's heartwarming.

A really entertaining story all round.

Disney is an author to watch for when it comes to seat of your pants, action packed books. This book does not disappoint.

Alex and Mia are fantastic MC's and loved the character depth for them both where they start off as sorta enemies, but evolves to more. Disney writes in a way that keeps your turning the page to find out what happens next because you just have to know, but she lightens up with comedic relief.

Disney has a way that keeps you engaged from start to finish and the detail is incredible that you feel like you're there. Rock climbing is something interesting that I've done a few times in a gym with a harness, not solo with nothing to catch you except you. It grips you and doesn't let go until the end.

The romance was well done and the sex scenes were hot, but the writing and the story telling is what really sets Disney's books apart.

I would definitely recommend this book. I received and ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this arc!

Wow. This is the first thing that comes to my mind, because words could never accurately describe this work of art. This is one of, if not even the, best books I’ve ever read and I can even see myself re-reading it once it’s published, and I don’t usually re-read books.
I’m not sure if the Author has any own experience in any of what she wrote about or did extremely good research and talk to people who are doing that in their real life! The detail is amazing, and the way it’s placed perfection.
The conversation and struggles between the characters seemed very realistic.
This was my first book from Nicole Disney, but definitely won’t be the last!

Love this book! Nicole Disney has quickly become one of my fav sapphic authors. I ended up reading the entire book in one day which is my favorite way to spend the weekend.

I don't want to give away too many spoilers but this book has it all! Romance, fun, mind blowing sports, yum sex scenes, and many heart racing moments!

Mia and Alex are sexy, strong women from different worlds. One a Park Ranger/rescue team leader and one a rock climber/free solo sports star. Two sides that don't get along until they do!

Nicole Disney is a fantastic writer and a breath of fresh air! Get some snacks and get ready for a ride!

I loved this book! The author draws you in and it feels like watching a cinematic movie unfold. From the very first page I was hooked and the action never stopped! This is an immersive reading experience and I learned a lot about climbing and free soloing while also swooning over the relationship that Alex and Mia have. There’s adrenaline rushes, shenanigans, risk, love, passion…. this book has something for everyone! And at the heart of it is a beautiful sapphic romance. What more could you ask for? Well developed characters, fantastic plot, and edge of your seat action. I loved every page!

“I can already feel the face I’ve dragged Wes up hear to see, like God waiting to be witnessed.”

‘Everything That Falls’ is a magnetic read that throws you straight into the action from the very first line.

Each sentence allows the adrenaline, excitement, and nerves of each character seep into the reader’s bones. Through Disney’s impressive writing and excellent use of similes and metaphors, she creates an immersive world; begging the reader to enter it.

With an electric blend of heart-in-your-mouth action and will-they-won’t-they romantic tension, ‘Everything That Falls’ is the perfect sapphic read that I never wanted to end.
