Book Review: Finding Eileen by Stephan Nebbia

Finding Eileen is a fast-paced, multi-layered thriller that skillfully blends mystery, crime, and emotional drama into a gripping, high-stakes narrative. In this compelling novel, Stephan Nebbia takes readers on a relentless journey where buried secrets resurface with devastating consequences.

At the center of the story is Jack Monroe, a successful New York neurosurgeon whose seemingly perfect life begins to unravel when a long-buried past comes crashing back. The disappearance of his high school girlfriend, Eileen Delaney, has haunted him for decades—but when her body is finally discovered, the mystery transforms into a direct threat. Suddenly, Jack is no longer just a man with a secret—he’s the prime suspect in a murder case that could destroy everything he’s built.

Nebbia excels at weaving together multiple story elements without losing momentum. The novel moves seamlessly between medical drama, legal tension, and crime thriller, keeping the plot dynamic and unpredictable. The introduction of mafia boss Jimmy Gigante and his daughter Connie adds another layer of complexity, especially given their shared history with Jack. These relationships are not just plot devices—they deepen the emotional stakes and add tension rooted in the past.

The pacing is one of the book’s strongest features. From the moment the truth begins to surface, the story accelerates into a series of twists, revelations, and escalating danger. The involvement of powerful adversaries—including organized crime figures, political players, and even an international assassin—raises the stakes to a global level, making the threat feel both personal and far-reaching.

What sets Finding Eileen apart is its exploration of guilt and consequence. Jack’s internal struggle is just as compelling as the external danger he faces. The novel asks an important question: can you ever truly escape your past, or does it inevitably catch up with you?

The suspense is maintained through a combination of sharp plotting and well-timed reveals. Each twist adds new layers to the mystery, keeping readers engaged and constantly reassessing what they think they know.

Intense, intricate, and emotionally charged, Finding Eileen is a gripping thriller that delivers on multiple fronts. It’s a story about secrets, survival, and the high cost of truth—one that will keep readers hooked until the very last page.

Finding Eileen

by Stephan Nebbia

Rating:5/5

Review:

👉This book is a gripping, intricately plotted thriller that hooks you not just with its mystery, but with the emotional weight behind it. What begins as the story of a successful neurosurgeon living an enviable life quickly unravels into something far darker. The discovery of Eileen Delaney’s body acts as a catalyst, pulling decades-old secrets into the present and forcing both the protagonist and the reader to confront uncomfortable truths.

👉Jack Monroe is written with a compelling mix of confidence and vulnerability. On the surface, he is a man who has achieved everything career success, social status, and a stable future. But beneath that exterior lies unresolved guilt and unanswered questions that have quietly shaped his life. When he becomes the prime suspect in Eileen’s murder, his internal conflict becomes just as important as the external danger. His journey is not only about proving innocence but also about facing the parts of his past he has long avoided.

👉The novel stands out in how it weaves together multiple threads without losing clarity. The inclusion of mafia ties through Jimmy Gigante, the complicated history with Connie, and the involvement of political and international forces all add layers to the narrative. Rather than feeling overcrowded, these elements expand the scope of the story, making it feel both intimate and far-reaching. Each subplot feeds into the central mystery, creating a sense that everything is connected in ways that are gradually revealed.

👉Pacing is one of the book’s strongest assets. Once the investigation intensifies, the story moves with urgency, building tension through a steady stream of twists and revelations. Just when the reader begins to piece things together, new information shifts the perspective, keeping the suspense alive. The stakes continue to rise, not only in terms of physical danger but also in what the truth might ultimately cost.

👉In the end, Finding Eileen is more than a conventional thriller it’s a story about memory, consequence, and the impossibility of escaping the past.

Happy reading 😊

Finding Eileen by Stephan Nebbia is a gripping thriller that blends mystery, crime, and emotional drama into a story that’s difficult to put down. The novel begins with the discovery of human remains linked to a woman who vanished decades earlier, instantly creating a sense of intrigue that carries throughout the book. As the investigation unfolds, long-buried secrets begin to surface, pulling the past into the present and changing the lives of everyone connected to the case.

One of the aspects I appreciated most was the way the author slowly revealed information. Rather than relying solely on shocking twists, the story builds suspense through unanswered questions, hidden motives, and complicated relationships. Jack Monroe is an interesting protagonist because his involvement goes beyond solving a mystery—he is forced to confront memories and unresolved emotions that have followed him for years. This personal element gives the story more depth and makes the stakes feel genuinely meaningful.

The novel also expands beyond a straightforward murder investigation. Themes of corruption, loyalty, and dangerous alliances add extra layers to the plot, creating a sense that every new discovery could have far-reaching consequences. Despite the multiple storylines, the narrative remains engaging and easy to follow, with each piece contributing to the larger picture.

The pacing is consistently strong, with enough tension, revelations, and unexpected developments to keep the pages turning. By combining an intriguing mystery with emotional weight and high-stakes suspense, Finding Eileen delivers an entertaining and memorable reading experience. Readers who enjoy thrillers filled with secrets, complex characters, and steadily escalating tension will likely find this book well worth their time.

⭐ Rating: 4.3/5

💭 My Thoughts: I enjoyed how the novel balanced suspense with character-driven storytelling. The mystery kept me curious, but it was the emotional impact of the past catching up with the characters that made the story stand out. It’s a compelling thriller that offers more than just twists, making it an engaging read from beginning to end.

I just finished "FINDING EILEEN" by Stephan Nebbia, and wow… this book completely hooked me from the very first chapters. 😮📖 It’s one of those thrillers where every secret uncovered leads to an even darker revelation, and I honestly couldn’t stop turning the pages.

What I loved most was how layered the story felt. It’s not just a murder mystery it blends medical suspense, legal drama, organized crime, political corruption, and emotional guilt all into one intense narrative. 🖤 Jack Monroe is such a compelling main character because even though he appears successful and composed on the outside, his past constantly haunts him. That emotional tension made the story feel deeper than a typical thriller.

The mystery surrounding Eileen’s disappearance was incredibly gripping, especially once her body is finally discovered after twenty-five years. From that point, the story becomes nonstop chaos in the best way possible. 🌫️⚡ Between mobsters, corrupt officials, and hidden betrayals, I genuinely never felt safe trusting anyone.

I also appreciated how the novel balanced action with emotional moments and complicated relationships from the past. The pacing stays fast, but the characters still feel human and emotionally affected by what’s happening.

If you enjoy suspense novels packed with twists, dark secrets, danger, and high emotional stakes, "FINDING EILEEN" is absolutely worth reading. 🔥📚

Stephan Nebbia’s Finding Eileen begins with the shocking discovery of Eileen Delaney’s body in a rock quarry, decades after she vanished. For Jack Monroe, now a respected neurosurgeon, this isn’t just another case—it’s the return of his high school girlfriend, whose disappearance has haunted him for years. The revelation tears open old wounds and forces Jack to confront the past he thought he had buried.

The novel builds tension around Jack’s relationships, both past and present. His connection to Eileen is contrasted with his current life, including his romance with a news anchor, while the reappearance of Jimmy Gigante and his daughter Connie drags him into mafia entanglements. These personal ties make the mystery more than just a crime story—it’s about loyalty, guilt, and the dangerous intersections of love and power.

Some secrets do not just haunt you, they come back swinging.

I devoured this book. From the moment that mystery kicked in, I was locked in and not letting go. You get crime, danger, old secrets, and a main character who is clearly trying to outrun something he cannot escape. The story keeps pulling you deeper with every chapter, and just when you think you have it figured out, it twists again. I loved how the past and present collide in a way that feels intense and personal, not just suspense for the sake of it. If you want a thriller that actually grips you and keeps your heart racing, Finding Eileen should be your next read!

The author was offering free copies on facebook so of course I had to claim my free copy. I didnt expect much out of it. At the very least I had hoped I could finish it. BOY was I wrong!!

It was an adventurous, mile a minute, action packed, non stop thrill ride. It kept my attention the entire time! I knew there was stuff going on...but he waited until just the right time to reveal all the secrets.

There was also a very sweet love story (stories) going on that almost ended in a way that I would have hated. (Thank you, stephan for pulling it together after all!)

If these characters come back in another book, I'm in!

It should be noted that author is a doctor!!! He dumbed the book down enough for us normal people, thankfully. I understood everything. Ha!

This was such a great read. Finding Eileen follows Jack, a neurosurgeon whose life gets turned upside down when the remains of his high school girlfriend Eileen are discovered years after she vanished, and suddenly the past is no longer buried. I really liked how the story blended mystery with personal guilt and secrets, and the tension kept building the more I read. I found myself wanting to know what really happened and how it would all come together, which made it hard to stop reading.

I picked this up thinking it would be a simple whodunit, but it's so much more. Jack Monroe is a successful neurosurgeon with a dark secret from twenty-five years ago his high school sweetheart vanished after a party. Now her body's been found in a quarry, and he's the prime suspect. Between the mafia boss, the Mossad assassin, and the crooked DA, I couldn't keep track of who to trust. The pages flew by. A real page-turner, this one.

The plot is face-paced and the scenes are very immersive. If you like a morally gray, blunt instrument MC, and a writing style that is reminiscent of Ian Fleming’s James Bond (hard-boiled and noir influence), then this book is for you!

A quiet and introspective read that delves deeply into grief and the weight of the past. It’s a slow burn, but the atmosphere and emotional depth kept me engaged throughout. While it may not be a new favorite, it’s still a worthwhile read.

I grew up in Teaneck NJ in Bergen County and I was interested in reading a book that took place where I knew the area well. It was a good read.
