Under the Influencer

Rate this book
Bridget Kolodziej has channeled her Type A tendencies into modest success as a home organizing influencer. When a vacation rental company offers to send her to Ireland for three weeks to document life as a solo traveler, she must leave her safe, orderly life to take a chance on parlaying her hobby into a social media career. Her rental cottage is more nightmare than dream home, so she’s forced to accept the hospitality of her curmudgeonly driver while she figures out a plan to fulfill her contract and build her following.

Fresh off losing a job, Finn Malloy has taxes due, a family trying to fix him up, and he’s suckered into picking up a high-maintenance American woman at the train station. When her accommodation leaves her high and dry, he helps find her a perfect house to rent. One small it’s his own cottage, and he didn’t exactly ask Bridget’s opinion on the matter.

Bridget’s rigid itinerary doesn’t last long with curve balls like screaming donkeys, gossiping priests, phone-stealing harbor seals and impromptu TV interviews – and the delectable benefits of letting her guard down with Finn. But she can’t afford to fall for someone who will derail her plans and complicate her orderly life. Worse, if Finn chooses to follow his heart, it may cost him the best chance to keep his home.

Chicago-based Bridget has stumbled onto her big break as an influencer: A last-minute GIG OF A LIFETIME as a travel influencer in a rental house in Ireland! She gets to take a paid vacation for three weeks of content. This sounds like a dream but Bridget is nervous since she’s only ever showed her hands before on camera for her smallish organizer influencer account. This new travel job, offered by her old college roommate, requires her to be an on-camera influencer. Bridget decides to take the leap, escaping from winter in Chicago, to Ballyknockerain, Ireland, in the hopes it will lead her to break into the world of big-time influencers. She doesn’t bargain for the appearance of a handsome Irish stranger, the driver who picks her up at the train station and eventually helps her find a charming cottage to stay in. There’s only one catch: It’s his own cottage, something he fails to tell Bridget until they wind up living together. Bridget is very type A and used to her predictable life in Chicago, while Finn is far more fiery and unpredictable. Author Laura Ridgefield takes us on a delightful adventure in Ireland while romance blooms along the way. I felt like I was on vacation with Bridget and loved this opposites-attract story that was funny and touching. This novel had well-drawn characters, a propulsive plot, and interesting detail about Chicago and Ireland. Highly recommend! This NEEDS to be made into a movie!

This was such a sweet and fun romcom. I adored Bridget and Finn. The setting was perfect, I loved the little cottage and Finn’s meddling family. Bridget was very set on keeping her itinerary on track. Neither one of these two saw the other coming. But once they’d met, it was so much fun from there. I had the best time with this one and didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait for the authors next book.

Fun, tender, and well-researched debut, sparkling with Irish magic. Bridget is a microinfluencer focused on organizing drawers and cabinets who gets an unexpected opportunity to fly across the world and film travel content in Ireland. Finn is her rough-around-the-edges cab driver who ends up hosting her in his cozy cottage. There was so much warmth and trust between these characters, it was easy to root for them, but they had personal journeys and goals they had to figure out before they could find their way to each other. Pacing was brisk, and I appreciated that there was some real LOL moments in this romcom, thanks to Bridget’s clumsiness and a couple of stubborn llamas in the barn. 3/5 🌶️

This was truly an enjoyable quick read. I was captivated by the Irish countryside and the banter between the characters. I felt like I was back in Ireland at times and it was good "craic". The author does a nice job of building the relationship between the couple and uses spice in appropriate places. I would highly recommend this book!

Yes the author is my friend, but l loved this book and would have even if I didn’t know the author. A great light read but I also learned some stuff about Ireland and enjoyed the spice too. I could totally see this book adapted into a movie. Can’t wait to read whatever Laura writes next!

4.5 Stars for this debute novel!

Under the Influencer was such a fun, cozy romcom and an impressive debut from Laura Ridgefield.

This book had several of my favorite things: grumpy vs. sunshine, a charming Irish setting, great banter, and scene-stealing animal side characters. The screaming donkeys and phone-stealing seal had me laughing out loud and added the perfect touch of chaos to Bridget's carefully planned life.

As a Chicago girl myself, I loved the references to familiar landmarks and culture, but the real star of the show was Ireland. The small towns, countryside, and local characters felt so vivid that I could easily picture myself right there alongside Bridget. The setting added so much warmth and charm to an already delightful story.

Bridget and Finn were easy to root for, and their opposites-attract dynamic created plenty of sweet moments and entertaining banter. This is the kind of romance that feels comforting, funny, and easy to sink into for an afternoon.

I stayed up far later than intended reading this one and thoroughly enjoyed the journey. If you're looking for a cozy meet-cute romance filled with Irish charm, lovable characters, and plenty of laughs, I highly recommend picking this one up.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an early copy ahead of her signing event.

This was such a cute and cozy rom com and a fantastic debut from Laura!

If you love the grumpy/sunshine dynamic, you will definitely get it with Bridget and Finn! These two were so easy to root for! I absolutely loved the Irish setting for this one! Such cozy vibes with the cottages, the villages, the shops, and really just everything! Oh, and we can't forget Tim and Tom! I loved the addition of those two.

Bridget has been sent on a mission/job and after some unfortunate mishaps, ends up uprooting Finn's life a bit, but it was his doing. He was so grumpy about it half the time, but Bridget continued to be upbeat and make the best out of every situation. The romance between the two of them was slow building but seemed so natural which I really loved. Everything felt real and relatable.

Oh, and I can't forget the scene with the seal! This one was priceless and such a funny addition to the story! I really was hooked into this one the whole time I was reading, and it has the perfect mix of emotion, tension, banter, humor, and spice. Huge thank you to Laura for sharing a copy with me!

I received a copy of this book via BookSprout. What follows is my opinion.

I wasn't sure if I'd like this book because I wasn't fond of the title or the cover art, but when I read the synopsis, especially the part about a trip to Ireland, I knew I had to read it. I'm glad I did because this book is wonderful! It's funny, and warm, and sweet. Everything flows so naturally, especially the banter between Bridget and Finn.

In fact, this story reminds me of the movie "Leap Year" with Amy Adams. It's not a replica, but it has a similar vibe. The lead characters have chemistry that flies right off the page. It's so well done. Also, there's a lot of hi-jinx, fun, and laughter.

I’m so glad that I found this book. I love Bridget and Finn, and their love story. I read it in one sitting. I could not put it down, not even for sleep. It’s a book I’ll read again, possibly several more times.
I highly recommend it. Read it and you’ll see what I mean. It’s unputdownable!

Under the Influencer by Laura Ridgefield is about an influencer named Bridget. She is offered the opportunity of a lifetime to stay in a cottage in Ireland for 3 weeks and document her experiences.
She enlists the help of a grumpy local by the name of Finn to drive her around and show her the sights. Little does she know how her carefully curated life is about to go for a whirlwind.
This book was a really cozy, fun read! It highlights the land and culture in beautiful ways. The conversations and events feel realistic and the characters are likeable.
I also enjoyed the ‘peek behind the curtain’ of influencer life and how Bridget navigates that balance between content and living in the moment.
Overall, this book was a solid, enjoyable romance that will draw in readers of grumpy/sunshine dynamics, tension, and appreciation for Irish culture.
I received a free ARC of this book from Laura Ridgefield in exchange for my honest, unbiased review. Thank you Laura Ridgefield for the opportunity!

I am a huge fan of all things Irish/English/Scottish - the cozier the better. What I most loved about this book was the mix of cozy vibes (villages with quaint shops, windswept weather, adorable cottages!) and the excitement of the passionate chemistry between the two main characters. It's clear the author has been in Ireland because the fictional world she has built there rings completely true, from the description of settings to the weather—and the love story is so funny and charming. I love me some grumpy Irishmen and hit the jackpot with Finn, the MMC, and Bridget is relatable and leaps off the page as she breaks out of her rigid ways and learns to live - and love - with gusto. Such a great book! I can't for this author's next one.

More Steam Than a Brother Needs...

*** Disclaimer - I am the author's brother ***
That said, this also isn't the typical book I read. But, once I picked it up I had so much fun following Bridget and Finn across Ireland. I found myself rooting for them and really enjoying the physical and emotional clumsiness of these two as they stumble their way toward falling in love—or at least lust.

There are some pretty steamy parts in the book and the worst part will be having to look my sister in the eyes at the next family function without blushing.

This was such a fun read from start to finish. I loved the snarky tone of the FMC, the banter between the leads, and a ton of little cultural details scattered throughout! This has made me rethink my stance on straight contemporary romance and I am hoping to be able to read more from her in the future!
