I fell in love with the Vicious Lost Boys series when I was just getting into dark why choose fantasy. Nikki St. Crowe has become one of my all-time favorite fantasy authors for a reason.

At this point, I should’ve known Nikki St. Crowe was going to give me another five-star read. Somehow, The Never Queen still exceeded my expectations. Honestly, I think this one may even surpass books one through four on the spice level. 🥵

As always, I keep my reviews spoiler free, so I’ll just say this…

It’s been a wild ride watching each of these characters grow individually while also coming together as a family throughout the series.

So many missing pieces of Winnie Darling’s story come together, many of which, I found myself thinking, “I didn’t even know I needed that.”

And yes… she absolutely ended on an “I am Winnie F***ing Darling” note.

I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better conclusion to one of my favorite series. Thank you, Nikki St. Crowe.

What can I possibly say?! Nikki has added an amazing layer to this story with this book. I absolutely love this series and honestly can't get enough of this series. This is a must read series. Winnie and her guys are trying to find her mom after she's gone missing. This means a trip to the mortal world from Neverland. They are attacked by witch hunters and is helped by Hansel. Everyone is confused as to why he would help when he's a witch hunter too. Secrets are revealed and the adventure continues on until the eventual return to Neverland.

"The Never Queen" by Nikki St. Crowe takes us back to Neverland. This book is fast paced and makes you want to keep reading.
Winnie is loving life in Neverland. However, she is starting to feel like she doesn't quite belong. This story takes you on a journey that shows Winnie she is right where she belongs. While dealing with things on Neverland, things are happening in the Mortal Realm. Winnie and the Boys have to figure out how to stay safe while protecting what is theirs.
So thankful to Nikki St. Crowe and House of Hearts for an Arc of the book. I was so excited to be back in Neverland.

firstly, thank you so much to Nikki St. Crowe & House of Hearts for gifting me an ARC of The Never Queen in exchange for an honest review — all opinions are expressly my own.

i'm rating the never queen a 3.75, rounded up to a 4 on goodreads.

the vicious lost boys is one of my favorite modern series within the realm of fae-fantasy-contemporary-dark-romance. it's a little bit of everything, and it's a lot of fun. i always say that i do not like smut/spice, and do not reach for books all that willingly that contain it. i don't remember what started me on this series, but i adored it from the beginning, and was impressed with the author's ability to be so engaging within so few pages, and have such plot-relevant spice spread throughout the books. that being said, i was saddened to think book 4 was the final one, so imagine my surprise when nikki st. crowe announced a book 5! i was so excited for the return of my favorite lost boys. i love retellings, especially when they're done well. in my opinion, the vicious lost boys is a fun and well-done retelling of peter pan and the lost boys.

that being said, the never queen is unfortunately my least favorite of the five. i believe i rated the previous four books 5 stars, but this one fell a little short for me. i look forward to reading the final published version, to see if anything has been polished or changed, and in that case i may amend my review once i get a hold of an official released version.

what i enjoyed:

the writing is still nice. it doesn't feel as good or polished as it did in the previous books, however, but it was still fine. i was just so impressed by the writing in this series because each character felt distinctly their own despite the pov switching. it's still more or less the same here, but again, it just didn't feel as smooth or natural, but still fine!

i love the main cast, as always. vane, my beloved. i love winnie. she's a breath of fresh air, to me. most modern authors these days take the archetype of a brat and drive it into the ground by writing some petulant, whiny baby without a backbone, but winnie is strong-willed and strong-minded, and i enjoy her a lot. she's such a fun character, and i love the interactions she has with the boys. however, i do feel like it was somewhat diluted in this book. i don't know. i can't put my finger on it. there's just something overall that, despite enjoying this book for what it is, doesn't sit right with me.

i love that we get some more lore, with hansel and gretel being introduced. it reminds me of once upon a time, the tv show, where all these storybook characters exist in one town; except here, they're in this magical fae realm of seven kingdoms, and i'd truly love to see this world expand and if it'd welcome more retellings of our favorite fairytales. i love that hansel is introduced as winnie's father, answering the mystery of what happened to her father. it gives more life to her mother as a character too, where in the past we may not have sympathized with her well, though we find out tilly fried her brain. it's nice that winnie gets a chance to have a family. of course, the boys are her family now too, but having her mother back, something she's always wanted, is nice. and now she gets a chance to know her father, too, and it might give her mother a happy ending as well, which i love.

what i didn't enjoy:

perhaps i didn't notice it so heavily in the other books, because i have physical copies of all the original four, but i didn't enjoy the lack of paragraphs in this. so much of the story was written in short choppy sentences and phrases, which of course extends the length of the book, when in reality there is little being written. it's still just shy of 200 pages, and i'm wondering if there was more being written without the enter key being pressed so often, if it'd be the same length and more to the story.

it made me yearn for more, because something in this book felt like it was missing compared to the other four. the stakes were high in the never queen, with doren being strangely cryptic, winnie's mother going missing, the appearance of hansel and the introduction of the witch killers, and the threat of change bash and kas bring as the new fae kings with winnie as their queen.

perhaps i've just forgotten a few details since it's been a while since i read book 4, but doren being odd about winnie becoming the never queen wasn't half as shady as i would have liked for it to be. it just didn't feel dire. of course it wound back to doren making a deal with the witch killers, but the whole plot surrounding that felt rushed and anticlimactic. we linger a little too long on some details, like winnie's school friends, where some details come alight (holly staring at winnie like she's undeserving of her boys) without touching upon them again, even if they're minor. because it's like, why bring it up, you know? why is this relevant?

again, despite the high stakes, it just didn't feel like it. the pacing of the book felt off and like it was rushed. it didn't grip me like the previous installments, not in anticipation of the plot and twists. it just felt so oddly bland.

overall:

overall, i enjoyed this book. it's such a fun series with beloved characters, and i had a good time reading this. it's very short, and i couldn't put it down; i'm sure my settings on my kobo made me read this even faster too, with my font and margins being what they are.

the pacing felt off, and there's just a bit of not-rightness. the book doesn't feel wrong, really, but it's not really perfect, not how i found the previous four books to be. i found i couldn't really wholly get into or invest in this book as i was able to with the others. it felt a little more shallow.

as always, i wish these books were much longer than they are. it'd give room for more depth, more plots, more action and grit. the brevity of the books hurt them for sure, though it didn't really act as a negative thing in books 1-4. in fact, their shortness is what impressed me with how much plot and character development the author was able to squeeze in there. books 1-4 certainly felt more cohesive, like i was reading one big book, which i think had a lot to do with it feeling so complete, especially because i read them all one after another. book 5, being so far apart from them in publication and story, of course feels to me like it's a spin-off. it doesn't really feel complete, and i feel the whole coronation/bonding ceremony was rushed as well. winnie becoming queen felt anticlimactic. i do wish this installment was longer, and it makes me wonder if there'll be a book 6, or if this is a story we continue in the devourer series.

all in all, i had fun reading this, and once again, thank you to the author and house of hearts for the ARC!

Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC of this book. This was my favorite book of the series. I really wasn’t expecting the twist of who the new character was and now I want a book about their backstory!

First thoughts:
Gurl! That was 🤌🏼🤌🏼 While we didn’t have to have this book. We HAD to have this book!! This was a the cherry on top to a delicious series that was The Vicious Lost Boys.

I felt for Winnie. All of her doubts and insecurities about herself. She never wavered from the guys but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t have a few moments of can I really DO this. I think some of it could’ve been flushed out more in the book but they’ve all had times that we wanted more from it.

All in all she has four very smexy men that would literally light the world on fire for her and that is all that matters.

We got heart felt moments between the guys, Vane and Pan make me melt like a puddle. The twins will always make me laugh. But she stood tall when she needed to. That is all we can ask for her, ourselves and our daughters. It’s okay to feel like we aren’t enough but when it’s hitting the fan pull your big girl panties up and keep trucking.

“Get back to the treehouse and clean up.” “Or you’ll what?” “No c~ck for you for a week.” I drop my mouth open in mock distress. “You wouldn’t.” Hands on my shoulders, he steers me to the path. “Don’t test me.” “Oh Vane. But if they can be at the top, why can’t I? If XXX thinks she’s so much better than me, stronger than me, more cutthroat than me, I’m going to make her fcking prove it.

First off, let me say how ABSOLUTELY HONORED I feel thanks to House of Hearts and Nikki St. Crowe for the opportunity to read the e-ARC. Considering I devoured The Never King, The Dark One, and Their Vicious Darling in three days, then life happened, but I finished The Fae Princes in two days - I saw on KU The Never Queen was coming out in August, I was READY.

In one of my book chat groups, a seasoned ARC reader provided me with the sign-up for The Never Queen. And I was smiling ear to ear once I saw the email and immediately got through 17 chapters!

In short, this was a pleasant read. Continues and ends the series on a solid note, as it pertains to Winnie and the Lost Boys.

Okay, enough of the platitudes, on to the honest review… which does contain a spoiler…

I had some hesitancy when I made my way through the first 8 chapters, I was so concerned this was just an attempt to grab at the hype of the VIcious Lost Boys series all being in stores. (which Nikki congrats, I am so happy to see those in stores now!!), but by chapter 17, I saw Nikki had a plan!

Caveat, this is a fairly quick read. I love multi-perspective books and Nikki is ever so generous with the plot and spice - I was happy to see the plot utilize the spice versus the other way around.

Winnie, good ol Winnie, still not sure she deserves all that she has, but Nikki said, ‘here baby girl, a nice HEA served on the shiniest platter in the shop’. Her Mom and Dad are reunited, her banished Fae boys are now kings, her brooding shadow daddy laughs and shares the deepest connection with her, and the man of her nightmares is literally a star god.

Now, I did have a bit of confusion with the following:

Why Pan was still choosing to sleep at night, but I assume, just because he’s a star god does not mean he has a shadow (though I thought that negated… anyways) That's on me for reading the 4th book and this e-ARC 8 months apart.

When did we find out Vane (thus assuming Roc as his brother) is a/the jabberwocky? (Probably should read the other works)

Personal small tiff I had, why would Pan say “Christ.” as a sigh of exasperation… Why would christianity be a concept to them they understand… (small thought spiral, it’s probably due to his interactions with the mortal realm, but it still makes no sense.)

All in all, I was pleased with the way Nikki wrapped this series up for us. I am happy to have seen it all the way to the end, and I am still honored to be able to read this e-ARC for my girl (whom I have never met but I ride for Nikki and the Lost Boys, something serious!)

Thank you SO much to Nikki St. Crowe and House of Hearts for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review. I have adored the Vicious Lost Boys series and the Devourer series, and I hope that we will be able to explore the world (perhaps through another anthology) in the future!

When St. Crowe announced that she had written a new Vicious Lost Boys book, she commented on how “pains and traumas and the struggles we work through can sometimes pop back up later on down the road leaving your head spinning” and that the book would be “a deep dive into life and the realities of what it takes to heal past wounds.”

Let me say that she delivered! As soon as I began reading the book, it was clear that it was more mature than its predecessors and that it was going to focus on the intimacies of Winnie’s brain and her fears/feelings of worthlessness.

Do not worry! The spice is still there and this book is just as sexy as the rest of the series. But it also offers a much needed look into the feelings of fear and inadequacy that can follow someone their entire life, while showing what it looks like to slowly accept who you are, to work towards forgiveness and recognize who the people you love are, and what trauma they may have experienced that shaped them. And, ultimately, how to trust the people around you, believe in yourself and your worth, and move forward to live life to the fullest.

This is by far my favorite book of the series, and I highly recommend that anyone who loves the series picks it up right away, and that anyone who is thinking about starting the series takes the leap.

I suppose when you show someone every one of your fractures, the parts of you broken and imperfect, and yet they choose to stay by your side through all the carnage, the chaos, and the despair, it only makes sense that you would also give them your heart.

Of course the men think this is about power. Of course they would never suspect it was about worth.

It almost feels like my new life is trying to reject me, like I'm a transplant with the wrong blood type, a queen made of the wrong stuff.

I didn’t want to need love or compassion or kindness. Because in the end, the person I needed most would always disappoint me.

Most of my life, I told myself I needed no one, wanted nothing, chased pleasure and lost myself in distraction. Because deep down I thought I didn’t deserve more.

This book is a dark romantasy Peter Pan retelling. Please Read The Content Warnings!

It was an absolute honour to ARC read this book for Nikki St Crowe. I read the Vicious Lost Boys and Devourer Series last March and they are still my favourite series to date. The characters, the stories, the whole concept of the 7 Isles and how she has intertwined Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland as well as other Fairytales, IT'S JUST BRILLIANT (in my opinion)

This is the 5th book in the series and focuses on Winnie Darling, she is all set to go through the binding ceremony with Kas and Bash, the fae twins, to become Queen of Neverland but there is something inside her that wont let go. Doubt. She still feels like she doesn't deserve to be happy, that she doesn't fit in or belong, and the push back from certain members of the Fae court are giving her reason to solidify that doubt. Then her mother goes missing and the only thing that matters is finding her.

I cannot recommend this book and series enough. The characters just get better and better as the series has progressed. I love that despite all the MMC's being these badass, dominant men, they all have some vulnerability and a softer side when it comes to Winnie. Love and caring are key elements in this story but there is also a lot of darker emotions involved.

The villain in this story is a total surprise and there are a few twists I definitely was not expecting.

As for the spice, it's deliciously good from the get go. I don't feel like it detracts from the story itself and some scenes are needed to help process Winnie's mindset.

Winnie is a strong, fierce woman and with the dark shadow, she is more powerful than she believes. However, she has her own demons that have never really gone away. She spent most of her childhood hiding and living in run down apartments whilst taking care of her mother who was slowly going mad from her own inner turmoil. All she wants is to belong and I can completely relate to that.

I will never get enough from this series and I think Nikki feels the same way, there are some unanswered questions that could definitely lead to another book (which I hope it does)

I love this series so much, I am planning to do a full immersive re-read with the audio books :)

Thanks to Nikki St. Crowe and House of Hearts for the gifted ARC. The following are my honest opinions - cross my heart and hope to die.

Starting right from the dedication, the main plotline is already hinted at. This is, first and foremost, a book about Winnie’s healing journey. She escaped a toxic environment and a sick parent, saved Neverland and helped all of the boys with their struggles. Each one - be it Pan, Vane, Kas or Bash - has their own kind of madness and she manages to temper and complement it. This is her time to reflect and heal. She has to come to terms with her past and decide to what extent she’ll allow it to keep on taking away her chance to be happy.

The beginning of the book confused me a bit because I felt like the main topic would be Fae Court politics and scheming, but that was on me - I was looking too far into it. It actually comes together so beautifully in Winnie’s journey and serves as another hurdle she has to overcome.

The boys are fine (still smoking hot); their healing happened in the last 4 books, so let our Winnie shine! Honorary mention to this quote right here: “Vane lights a cigarette and spreads his arms out over the bar behind him, the cigarette caught in his mouth as he takes a drag, then lets it dangle as he exhales, head tipped back.” I need this reenacted for me y-e-s-t-e-r-d-a-y.

You might think this is the case of an author releasing another book in a series just for the sake of it, but to that I say you’re terribly wrong. Even if it looks thin, it is by no means rushed or poorly thought out. Without this book, the story wouldn’t be complete. Nothing is predictable or dragged out, and we get every missing piece - some of which we didn’t even realise we needed. I don’t want to spoil anything (because it threw me for a loop) but we also get new characters!!!

I highly recommend you read “The Never Queen” if you enjoyed the other books in the series (and even if you didn’t, give it another chance, it’s sooo well written).

Must Love Audio, I could kiss you on the fucking mouth for giving me this ALC.

You guys don’t understand this was the first ever why choose series I read, and it completely changed my brain chemistry. It introduced me to a whole new world, and I was never the same. I love these characters and this world so damn much. It’s fun, it’s addictive, and I was completely shocked when I found out this book was even a thing. I had no idea it was coming, so it ended up being the best surprise ever.

And the audiobook? Absolutely phenomenal. It’s full cast and duet narration, which is already a winning combination, but every single narrator absolutely killed it.

I was honestly surprised by how quickly everything came back to me. I read this series a couple of years ago, but jumping back into this world felt like coming home to my own little fucked-up version of Neverland. The nostalgia hit me so hard. I missed these characters more than I even realized.

For such a short book, this was such a solid read. Maybe it’s because I already have such an immense connection to these characters, but I was hanging on every word, every spicy scene, and every “oh shit” moment. This is the series I always recommend when someone wants to have a genuinely good time..a sexy, spicy, dark fairy tale retelling that’s impossible to put down.

And don’t even get me started on Vane. I missed my baby SO MUCH. This honestly just made me want to go back and reread the entire series because this felt like a little taste when what I really need is the full meal. I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if I reread the whole thing and then immediately listened to this audiobook again.

I also loved getting to see Winnie as the absolute badass she’s become. The chemistry, the banter, and the dynamics between everyone are just as good as I remembered. I fucking ate this up, and I couldn’t think of a more perfect little ending to a series I love so so much.

Are we getting more?!?? I really hope Nikki is planning on expanding this world because I am seriously intrigued about some of the characters👀

The Never Queen is another entertaining addition to the Vicious Lost Boys series. Like the rest of the books, it’s a quick, easy read packed with dark fantasy, romance, and plenty of spice, making it incredibly easy to fly through.

One of my favourite parts was learning a little more about Winnie’s past, particularly finally discovering the identity of her father. It’s not something that’s been heavily built up throughout the series, but it was a fun reveal that added another layer to her story. I’d also happily read a spin-off following Merry and Winnie’s father, exploring who Merry was before Neverland and whether there’s any hope for her future beyond what we’ve seen so far.

I also enjoyed spending more time with Winnie, Pan, Vane, Bash, and Kas now that their relationship feels more settled. It was nice to see their dynamic mature a little and spend time with them outside of constant conflict.

As always, the spice is plentiful (and very well done), but I do think the balance between the romance and the plot is where the book lost me a little. With such a short page count, the romance often takes centre stage, leaving the storyline feeling a bit thin in parts. I enjoyed both elements but I just found myself wanting a little more substance to the plot particularly around the main antagonist.

The pacing to me feels slightly uneven towards the end. The storyline surrounding the Witch Killers and the main antagonist wrapped up very quickly, and I would’ve liked a little more time for the tension to build before the conclusion.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with The Never Queen as I did with the rest of the Vicious Lost Boys series, but it didn’t quite leave a lasting impression on me. It’s an entertaining, easy read that I think fans of the series will still have fun with, but once I’d turned the final page, I found myself ready to move straight on to the next book rather than being left reeling which is where 4 and 5 star ratings come into play for me.

There are some worlds you never truly leave, and Neverland is one of them.

Returning to Winnie Darling, Pan, Vane, Kas, and Bash felt like coming home. Nikki St. Crowe has once again proven why the Vicious Lost Boys series remains one of my all-time favorite dark fairy tale retellings. She has an incredible talent for creating a story that's emotional, magical, dangerous, and addictive—all in a relatively short book that leaves you completely captivated.

In The Never Queen, Winnie is forced to face the ghosts of her past while embarking on a mission that pushes her to her limits. Watching her grow into the woman—and queen—she was always destined to become was one of my favorite parts of this book. Her journey wasn't just about saving those she loves; it was about healing, accepting who she truly is, and embracing her strength.

The bond between Winnie and her Lost Boys is just as powerful as ever. Whether it's the unwavering loyalty, the banter, the emotional moments, or the chemistry that fans of this series have come to love, every relationship felt meaningful. Nikki continues to balance romance, action, humor, and heartfelt moments effortlessly.

I also loved how this book expanded the world beyond what we already knew. The new lore, familiar fairy tale connections, and long-hidden family secrets added so much depth to the story and made Neverland feel even bigger than before.

This was the perfect conclusion to Winnie's story. It was emotional, exciting, and incredibly satisfying, and I found myself smiling through the final chapters while also feeling a little sad to say goodbye to these characters. They'll always hold a special place in my heart.

I'm feeling super nostalgic because this is the last book in The Never King series! I first started reading this series when the first book came out, and since then, I have been addicted to every book and its characters. I'm sad that this is the last book, but knowing Nikki, we might be seeing more in the distant future (Never say never).

I did do a little refresher of the last book before starting The Never Queen to help my memory. I'm glad I did because this book had so many new twists and characters to keep track of. During the first chapter, I am already kicking my feet and smiling because who doesn't love the twins and their troublesome behavior. It gets pretty heated right off the bat, which I enjoy immensely.

I love that this book focuses on Winnie and her ever constant struggle of feeling unwanted and alone and new challenges she has to overcome throughout the book! To me, Winnie has always been a fighter and someone who makes her own way in life by any means necessary. In this book, we get to see more of her insecurities that are running inside her head along with the self-doubt.

It's hard to pick a favorite lost boy, but I'm leaning more towards Pan, especially after finishing this book! If you want more spice between Winnie and her boys, you will definitely get your wish. I was definitely sweating during some of the scenes and still thinking about them!

I will never get over Pan, Vane, Cas, Bash, and Winnie finally getting there "happily ever after"! I feel like they've been fighting for so long, and I'm extremely happy with this ending. I highly recommend this book if you are just as obsessed with this series as I am!!!

I was so happy to be back in this world. I adore these characters and the journey this series has taken me on, so I couldn’t wait to see where the story would go next. Safe to say, I wasn’t disappointed. After watching the men work through their healing across the first four books, it’s finally Winnie’s turn to take centre stage. With her guys behind her, she accepts her past and chooses happiness instead — all while heading into the human world to search for another missing Darling woman.

I love all the guys, but Vane remains my favourite. He is just THAT GUY. This man could hit me with a car and I’d thank him for the honour and this line “Vane lights a cigarette and spreads his arms out over the bar behind him, the cigarette caught in his mouth as he takes a drag, then lets it dangle as he exhales, head tipped back.” I need to witness it on a spiritual level.

I also really enjoyed the introduction of characters from another well‑known fairytale. Their arrival added such an interesting dynamic to the group, and I loved every moment of it. The cast of narrators did a fantastic job as usual, just straight up eargasms.

If your first crush was live‑action Peter Pan growing up, you’ll fall hard for this darker, sexier, grown‑up retelling — perfect for readers who love found family, fairy‑tale twists, and morally grey men who worship their FMC.

Oh my gosh, I wanted to read this book so bad and I'm so glad to be back in Neverland with my favourite found family 🖤

I loved getting to know more about Winnie and Vane and Pan and Kas and Bash after how 'The Fae Princes' have finished; so glad to know they were stull thriving and causing mischief. I must say I missed my boy Vane having a chapter of his own, but that's because he's my favourite...I'm allowed to play favourites, right? 🤪

I was always curious about Winnie's father and how her mother knew about him, and I was gagged when we got that revelation. I had a suspicion about it, and I adored the way Nikki wrote it and how we got some more about Merry (I really hope she manages to get help, I would love to get to know about her visiting Winnie in Neverland, alongside you know who 🤭).

The fae ceremony was so sweet, I wished we could have gotten more, just because I'm greedy when it came to this series. Loved how Vane and Pan knew exactly what Winnie would want and decided to delivery. That was probably one of my favourite scenes.

I wonder if the Witch Killers may appear in some books in the future of the Neverland stories (this is me throwing my shot that Nikki writes more in this universe and I get more Winnie and Vane scenes, I'm greedy, okay?!), and how their connections will work with everyone.

It was so good to go back to Neverland. I think I'll be rereading the whole series now, just because I'm missing everyone already 🤭

What a wonderful end to one of my favorite adventures! And the best part? It feels like we could go back one day! Even if Nikki never writes in this world again, though, I think this gives us a great last moment, if you will, with our favorite Darling and Lost Boys. I loved this book from start to end because it included everything that made me love this series and Nikki's realm in the first place. We got to see Winnie be a bad*ss, the boys on their knees- and fighting- for their girl, the dark spiciness we can never get enough of, the Neverland magic we adore, and the soft and gentle moments of Winnie finding her own self worth with the help of the men who love her so much. I am so grateful for this (perhaps last) return to Neverland with Winnie and her Vicious Lost Boys.

This book brought me so much joy, and for the first time in a while, I stayed up late to read it, thought about reading while I was at work all day, and couldn't wait to get my hands on it when I got back home. This is the first time in a while (well, since devour the snake) that I've devoured a book so quickly. But I can't say I'm surprised- Nikki's books have always been like that for me... and now that I'm done visiting Neverland, it seems it's time for me to finally pay a visit to Oz..

I’d like to thank Nikki St. Crowe and House of Hearts for the gifted copy of this ARC; however, all opinions are my own.

I have been in Neverland for the last year, literally since January 2026. I read the first 4 books of Vicious Lost Boys, then the 3 books of the Devourer series and now, the 5th book of Vicious Lost Boys – The Never Queen. Nikki St. Crowe is BEAST in writing these interconnected books.

Pan, Vane, Bash, and Kas are back – along with Winnie Darling. This time we’re in preparation for Bash and Kas to be coronated as the Fae Kings that they are… and Winnie, to be coronated and crown as The Never Queen. But it can never be that simple with this gang, can it?

A lot the subjects in the Fae lands are not very happy with the Fae prince’s becoming king’s and even more so, Winnie Darling being chosen as their queen. The kingdom seems to be in some turmoil… with all of that happening, they get word that Merry Darling, Winnie’s mother, has gone missing – so they are all off, to the Mortal realm.

Once in the Mortal realm, we start to see the unraveling of family secrets, introductions of some very familiar fairytale characters and the introductions Witch Killers! Oh, this book has it all! If you want to find out if Winnie and her Lost Boys ever find Merry and to see what kind of family secrets are revealed – you need to pick up this book. This book comes out on 📅 August 4th. I think this book could be setting up for another spinoff… and I’m here for it 😉

I think The Never King was one of my first forays into dark romance, and by that time I was able to binge the first four books! And continued in the world with The Devourer series and Dark and Darker Still. Whilst I’d thought that was the end of Lost Boys story, I was pleasantly surprised to see The Never Queen was coming!

This one I think wrapped up the Lost Boys story nicely like Winnie gets wrapped up in Bash’s knots 👀 and maybe even left a door open for Winnie’s mother and her next tale? I love we got some extra background into her mother’s life before she was stolen away and I hope we get to see the conclusion of her story.

It was a pretty easy spicy read, with some high stakes and mysterious woven throughout. I feel like this one was more focused on Winnie and how regardless of what she thought she was deserving of what happiness she now had. I’m glad as she spends so much of the main story self doubting due to her previous life and her way of coping. It shows what it’s like to be human and that you’re just not magically fixed despite getting everything you could have wanted.

The boys of course were great and extra devoted in this one and the different POVs flowed into their different characters. Their consideration of Winnie and doing things out of their comfort zone just to see a smile on her face really shone through.

I finished book four thinking “the loose ends are tied up, what’s book five gonna be?” And then I found out and it was so much better than I expected!

I’ve really loved reading this series and seeing Nikki’s writing grow. Each installment is better than the last, and she consistently ups the ante.

At just shy of 200 pages, this book is short but oh so sweet. Except, not “sweet” like a cinnamon roll; more like “sweet baby Jesus, that was good!” Nikki has a way of layering reveals and leaving breadcrumbs for you to follow until the whole picture becomes clear. And then you think back and realize she laid the groundwork for that ages ago.

Nikki once asked the discord who our favorite lost boy was, and I finally understand why she said it can’t be Vane. Because of course he would be everyone’s favorite. But all five of these books have consistently reinforced my love of Kas. He’s the perfect blend of dark, funny, and caring. I know he would burn the world for Winnie, and then salt it for good measure.

Above all, though, is the badass that is Winnie Darling. She knows what she wants, and she fights for it. I loved seeing her get the happily ever after she deserved, while still leaving the door cracked open enough that maybe, someday, we get to come back.

I keep my reviews spoiler-free, but I fully believe that if you enjoyed anything from this universe, you should pick up The Never Queen.

Book 5 in the Vicious Lost Boys surprised me in the best ways.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading but what I got was an honest story about a girl who wasn't sure she was good enough to be where she was in life. Imposter syndrome is such a real thing especially when women begin to achieve positions of power and importance.

To see that relayed through Winnie struggling to accept this beautiful (spicy) found family and accept that Neverland, Pan, and her boys were not going to be taken away from her was so unexpected and so so good. Nikki relayed the constant anxiety and stress perfectly. She also relayed the beauty of having people around you who see you and are willing to take care of you and help you fight those fears even if they don't understand where they are coming from.
This book has considerably less spice than the first four and that felt perfect for the plot. Not having Winnie hide and escape from every feeling through sex allowed us to see the doubt she was having and really drove home how important it was for her to find her power in herself and not just through the boys or through Neverland.

I won't lie, I cried through a good chunk of this book. I never related to Winnie more than I do now. And now I am proud of her too.

A spicy retelling about healing and hope was everything I could have wanted from The Never Queen.
I am also rooting for Winnie F***ing Darling

Overall, I have mixed feelings about this! It was definitely as fun and enjoyable as the rest of the series, and I loved reading about Winnie and the boys again.
However, this didn’t really feel necessary and kind of like an afterthought and not really like a plot that was meant to be there since the beginning.
Even though the book is quite short, the pacing was a little odd, and sometimes dragged, which I didn’t have with the other books in the series. And while the spice scenes were nice to have, they often felt like they didn’t need to be there, or weren’t fitting the moments, especially when vulnerable topics were addressed.
This leads to my main issue with the book. Winnie struggled a lot in the book, and I kept hoping that this would be addressed somehow, but she never really confronted her insecurities or discussed it with the boys. I would’ve loved seeing that, as without it, the relationship with Winnie and the boys sadly felt a little shallow and superficial.
I still enjoyed this series and even though I did criticise quite a bit, I still like this one, I just feel like there was even more potential.
I do hope we maybe get to see a Hansel and Gretel (+ Merry Darling) backstory in the future!

If there is one thing Nikki St. Crowe consistently delivers, it is a fast, addictive, and utterly consuming read. I devoured The Never Queen in just 24 hours, and as is always the case with this series, my only complaint is that I wish it were longer!

What continues to amaze me about St. Crowe's writing is the sheer density of the storytelling. Within the span of a quick read, the author seamlessly packs in:
Blazing Spice: The chemistry between our Queen and her fierce boys is off the charts.
High Drama & Intrigue: The dark, twisted spin on Neverland keeps the stakes high and the pages turning.
Emotional Healing: A wonderful layer of depth by tackling healing from deep-seated family wounds.

The Verdict
Overall, The Never Queen is a beautiful and gripping addition to the series. It blends dark fantasy romance with genuine emotional growth, making you care just as much about the characters' hearts as you do about the plot twists.
If you love spicy dark romance, morally grey characters, and a fresh take on classic fairy tales, this is an absolute must-read. I cannot wait to see what our Queen and her boys do next!

A huge thank you to Nikki St. Crowe and House of Hearts for gifting me this ARC!

The Vicious Lost Boys Series is the first reverse harem I read when my bookish journey was reignited, so these characters hold a very special place in my heart.

The Never Queen follows Winnie and her men—Peter Pan, Vane, and the fae kings, Bash and Kas as they travel to the mortal realm to find Winnie’s mother, Merry Darling who has gone missing. Upon arriving, they find themselves in more than a giant heap of trouble.

This novel is on the shorter side, but filled with all the adventure, and of course spice, that is to be expected from a Vicious Lost Boys story. Nikki St. Crowe has a way with words that makes the reader more and more attached to each of the main characters by revealing more layers of their histories and personalities with each novel, and also succeeds in painting a beautiful picture of the scenery((someone please take me to the Grotto stat)). According to Ms. St. Crowe, this is the last novel for the Vicious Lost Boys and Winnie for the foreseeable future, so I absolutely did not want this story to end.

I will take all the crumbs she’ll give us about these characters with the grabbiest of “gimmie gimmie gimmie hands”((especially Daddy Vane)).
