His body ravaged by a rare poison, Mark Seaton needs to uncover the conspiracy that threatens his fledgling nation before it's too late. To do so, he must return to the city he fled, and face the men who may have been responsible for his mother's death and his father's disappearance.
In a world of intrigue, poison, and pistols-at-dawn, where magic is bound to masks and men's souls are bound together by arcane rites, a dying man struggles to save his country.
There are many things more precious than life to lose.
"In Confidante, Book Two of the Lord Jester's Legacy, Prazeman demonstrates mastery of the trade yet again. Each character is magnificently realized and flawlessly written. Take a multifarious plot, spice liberally with intrigue, add a dash of delightful pacing, and you have a formula for a satisfying and unforgettable read." – Lawrence Kane, ForeWord Magazine
EM Prazeman came to the United States as a refugee. Her family settled in the Pacific NW after moving frequently across the US, so EM got a lot of practice being the new kid at school. Super shy? Check. Reclusive? You bet.
In third grade, her father suggested she learn an instrument. She picked violin, because harps are expensive (she was frugal-minded, even as a kid) and the piano looked hard. Well, turns out the violin is super-hard, and kids think you're weird (or in her case, it only made her weirder). But, bonus, she learned to love all kinds of music, and her involvement in orchestra and theater led to a love of history. Those things eventually connected her to some incredible people. EM was no longer alone!
For love of history she wanted to learn archery and karate, and joined the SCA. For love of imagination she became part of a community of writers whose accomplishments continue to grow. A lust for knowledge drew her to physics and engineering in college. Then she married and through her husband befriended adventurers, law enforcement officers and soldiers, world travelers, genius intelligence specialists, scientists and many other remarkable people that defy description. Their remarkable lives and warm friendships inspire her.
EM writes fantasy novels, travels, gardens, works a small farm, paints, and loves wine. She's been paragliding and scuba diving, sailing, canoeing, fishing and all kinds of other fun stuff. She's hiked over a hundred miles from the city to the coast on logging roads. She's been to Europe, the tropics, and many places in the US and Canada. Best of all, she continues to live in the Pacific NW with her exceptional husband, author and lecturer Rory Miller, three dogs, eight goats, a flock of chickens, and her beloved children and extended family close by.
WOW. This book was so good and full of so many intrigues that it was honestly hard to keep up. Poor Mark. He really goes through the ringer in this one and I had so many FEELS for him. Mark so badly wants to be loved and wants to banish his loneliness. I just wanted to pull him into a hug and let him cry it out. I immediately bought book 3. Cannot wait to start.
This novel brings out so much feeling in reader that when you sit down for one word your stuck.... Amazing, brilliant, confusing, masterpiece, irritation, clever ... E list could go on. The rad is like a roller coaster ride, extremely fast and a bit confusing at times, loads of heart in the mouth climbs and drops , slow then fast, twists and turns, things you did not expect and others you could see. Mark/lark on a whole the author has developed from the poor victim into a man who is taking control of his destiny, I think!!! The other main characters you have a mix the ones I just adore and then those who your just want to shake sense into. The plots complex but yet simple. The concept of masks, ALL, jesters, spirits, I must admit I'm never quite sure I understand, and I am 10% through the last book. But then again I think this is one of the clever parts of the authors creation here. Mark, gutter, they all struggle with it. It might be that you can read and reread these books and never get there. All in ALL love the book and happily going starting the 3rd book.
Second book in the Jester series with Lark/Mark Seaton who is still only 19 years old and finding out the difference between lust and love while changing the politics of each country that he visits. Mark goes back to his roots and watches his old life die and fade away as he gets caught up in a plot to overthrow the monarchy of his birth nation. Mark/Lark in less then two months adopts his new island nation with no regrets or questions so when he throws himself into politics and intrigue in his old country, he knows that if he can cure his poisoning that he has another place to live the rest of his life. There is a kind of ending in this one so I'm quitting this world at this point because it is a weird world of fantasy and mask magic. 320 pages and bought for kindle and there is a third book in this cliffhanger style series 2 stars
This book, like the first one, needs an editor. All the issues previously mentioned are here. I especially would love some relationship development from the main character and any of his conquests or so introspection on them. I honestly skimmed the last ten percent because the details were not all important. The plot of this one was great but there was a lot that could have gone...the chapters are very very long because of the lack of editing/cutting out the extra details.
This is a well-woven story. There is a bit of redundancy and over explanation but she paints with such a detailed brush that you cannot fault her for taking you the long way around.
Prazeman has done it again! This well crafted novel continues to captivate and hold you on the edge of your seat.
Mark's youthful naivety and his unpredictable behavior kept me so stressed. I was afraid he was going to mess everything up. In the end I was left feeling okay and a bit surprised.
Again, the world-building, characterizations, drama and emotional connection in this series just work for me. So much so that I had to buy book three before I finished this book, because it looked like I might be in an area without connectivity when I finished. And yes, I immediately began the next book.
