Return to Robinson Island

Rate this book
Inspired by the “original” Swiss Family Robinson book written in 1812 by Johann David Wyss, Return to Robinson Island is a continuation of the adventures of the Swiss Family Robinson fifteen years after their famous shipwreck.

LONG DESCRIPTION:
Return to Robinson Island is an entertaining adventure story that has a thread of romance weaved throughout. It takes place fifteen years after the Robinson Family’s famous shipwreck on a remote island in the East Indies. The story highlights Ernest Robinson, who is now twenty-seven years old, engaged to be married, and is a 1st Lieutenant in the British Royal Navy. Ernest has distinguished himself as a fearless fighter, respected leader, God-fearing, and loyal friend. However, his loyalty is tested when his commanding officer, Captain Charlie, is court-martialed on war crimes and Ernest has no choice but to tell the truth – even if his testimony sends his former Captain to prison.

When reports reach England that a vast treasure trove has been found on Robinson Island, Ernest and his family find themselves in mortal danger when Captain Charlie vows to retrieve the treasure for himself and wreak revenge on the entire Robinson family.

Will the Robinson Family survive the attack? Will Ernest ever see his fiancée again? One thing is certain; they won’t give up the island – or their lives – without a fight!

LOG LINE:
When rumors of a vast treasure trove on Robinson Island surfaces in England in 1815, the Robinson family must use all of their ingenuity and skill to protect their home from conspiring men and fight to save themselves and the treasure.

I received an ARC of this novel, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's always difficult for me when authors attempt to write sequels to my beloved classic novels, but the author stayed true to the original. The story has an interesting premise and plenty of new adventures for the Robinson family. It's apparent the author has done his research. I'm really hoping to see this made into a movie at some point. We don't get enough adventure on the high seas at the cinema.

I love this book! I was privileged to receive an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, so here it is.

I grew up watching the Disney movie The Swiss Family Robinson and loved it. Because of that, I chose to read the book as an adult and I can tell you that it is very different from the movie! However, there were things that I really appreciated in the original book that were not included in the movie. As I read T.J. Hoisington's sequel to the novel, I felt that the author did a fantastic job keeping with the main themes of Wyss's work but that his writing style and story were more enjoyable and easier to read. His characters were well developed; I loved reading about the Robinsons again and meeting new heroes and villains. This novel is told in such a way that it is not necessary to have read the original novel. The author weaves in important details, descriptions and events from the original in a seamless way that propels the story forward.

I loved being able to read an exciting book with a touch of romance that was clean AND meant for adults! It is hard to find a clean, exciting, well-written novel for teenagers, let alone adults, that fit that description.

I cannot wait to share and recommend this book to my friends when it is published. It is well worth the read and I sincerely hope that Hoisington will write more works of fiction.

Hoisington delivers a fun, adventurous story that has a touch of romance. It was fun to return to Robinson Island and see how the family had progressed in the time between Hoisington's book and the original Swiss Family Robinson. I appreciate the family values portrayed- the Robinsons have such great, loving relationships! It's hard to find clean literature with a good story that has characters you want your children to emanate. Most of the time brothers and sisters are too busy competing with each other instead of working together; this was very refreshing.

He sets is up very nicely for a sequel- can't wait to read that as well!

I really enjoyed this sequel to the Swiss Family Robinson! Unlike the first book, it had real adventure, betrayal, and romance. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars (more like 4.5 stars) is because I felt it was quite predictable. I already had the ending figured out by 1/3 of the way through the book. Other than that, it was fantastic! This book is definitely an easy read and would be a great "family" read, even with younger children.

Just a Great as the original!!
I do not like to go into to much details when leaving a review....don't want to spoil it for others! I was a little worried going in as it has been many years since I read the original "Swiss Family Robinson". I also, remember needing a dictionary when reading it..... With that being said I was pleasantly surprised at the ease I was able to follow along with the storyline as well as the direction Mr. Hoisington took with the characters..... I fell in love with the characters all over again.....really did not skip too a beat. I enjoyed this storyline, I don't foresee a disappointment in Mr. Hoisingtons' writing given the accomplishments of the original......Would highly recommend this book to anyone who loved the original and it is not a must to have read the original to follow along...I am compelled to reread as Mr. Hoisington's storyline has developed the characters in a way that keeps the reader wanting more.. ... Well Done Well Done!

I enjoyed this book! Mr. Hoisington did a very good job of recreating life on Robinson Island. The feel of the book was very close to the original, and the characters stayed true to themselves as well. Sequels are hard, especially sequels to books that you didn't write (and were written long ago), but this book overcame all of that. It was highly entertaining, full of action, and I enjoyed it! Great adventure story suitable for whole family.
We listened to the audio book version and the narrator has a smooth calming voice.
The author did a great job of pulling you in and descriptive enough you could picture the scenes in the book.
I'd love to live on the island and live as they do with the support and love they have. I will treasure the hardback I have of this book and will listen to it again and again.

When I first read the title of this book I thought it was a sequel to Robinson Crusoe. However, when I read the name Ernest Robinson, I quickly realized this was about another, equally loved Robinson, the Swiss Family Robinsons. Now I am never been one to enjoy sequels to classics, as I always feel the writer never truly captures the characters feelings, thoughts, or emotions. Typically modern writers will also make their characters too modern, mostly seen with women. This book was nothing like that at all. I thought the author did a tremendous job in his writing as he truly captured the characters from the original, while at the same time breathing his own voice into them. The story was action packed, and I did not want to put it down. I eagerly read page after page, my only regret being that it ended too soon. If you are a fan of the book or 1960s Disney movie, this is another version you will also enjoy.

This great book came at just the right time for me. Having just finished reading Swiss Family Robinson, which leaves you wondering what happened to this amazing family, I was eager to read more. T. J. Hoisington has done a remarkable job of continuing the story.
He added the excitement I wished had been in the original book while staying with the language and customs of the era. This story had me spell-bound from beginning to end. Whether you liked or disliked the original classic, this continuation is a must read about loyalty, treachery, romance and treasure.
Well done T. J. and thank you for my signed copy. I vote that you continue the story.
