THE REIGN OF THE SUPERBOYS BEGINS! After the shocking events of DC K.O., Superman is missing. But one hero steps up to take his place...Superboy Prime?! Normally, Prime has only been part of massive DC events, but now he gets a real shot at showing the world he can be just as great a hero as Superman! Superstar artist Dan Mora returns to Superman for an action-packed and fun adventure that changes the face of the DC Universe!
So, so good! Superboy Prime is going to be a ton of fun. We get some nice 4th wall stuff, good humor, and some heart in the story. 1000% hyped for more of this. Mora's art really shines is this issue. There were so many great facial expressions in this.
EXCELLENT!!!! Got Superboy Prime as the main star, trying to be a decent person and a great superhero. Funny, excellent art, oh and mama Lois being a HOTTIE with a BODY.
I absolutely LOVE THIS!! That’s what I’m talking about!! I’m so glad Mora is back on this book and he couldn’t have come back at a better time with SuperBoy prime taking over the title in the midst of Superman’s disappearance post DC KO. I love SuperBoy prime but I have to be honest that may be because I lack the baggage that comes with him, I’ve yet to read infinite crisis or his time going up against the teen titans so while I understand all the terrible stuff he’s done in theory…all I see is the fun fourth wall breaking “Jason Todd of the Superman family.” I love how he comes from a world where the characters that surround him are fictional but I also love how Mister Terrific goes into how terrifying a concept that is. But this issue couldn’t have started any better, with a simple room as SuperBoy prime comes out to introduce himself, acknowledge the big event we just went through, and invite us to join him on a really fun journey to learn some life lessons, beat up villains, and make some friends along the way.
We then join Lois on the watchtower as she gets an examination from Mister terrific to find out that her powers are once again. Lois can accept this for now, she has enough going on in her life, especially with Superman missing again. But as long as Bruce and Diana aren’t worried she isn’t either. Even for how small this scene is aboard the watchtower, I love how alive it feels. As Michael and Lois walk down the halls it’s lined with heroes, even vigilante (the cowboy one) is straight up riding a horse, lol. But as they come to a corridor suddenly they find Zatanna, Katana, Huntress, and Vixen all checking someone out, only to quickly disperse when they see Lois…as on the other side of the glass is none other than SuperBoy prime, shirt off and Superman shield brand on full display, as he is currently maxing out the watchtower’s weight system at 1,000,000 pounds. This is the other issue Lois has Ben brought here to talk about as according to Michael he cannot stay here. People still remember what he did and is see as a danger, especially without Superman here to vouch for him. But there is another aspect that concerns Michael, which is prime’s greatest strength…the fact he comes from a world where they are all fictional and he has read their entire lives as stories. He knows everything about them, even their best, worst, and most intimate parts of their lives no one else should know. Michael fears the day someone else found out how to use that against them. Michael wants to lock him up but he knows how bad an idea that would be…but Lois already has something else in mind. So as Prime and her return to metropolis she proposes…that his bum ass gets a job!! Ahahahaha! Prime is against the idea at first, he could just go and find a treasure chest or something…but Lois reminds him that is not what Superman would do. She offers to get him a job at the daily planet but he even had problems back home about looking too much like a young Clark Kent, that just wouldn’t work. He actually hasn’t spent long in this reality, other than in some event or crossover, so he really wants to take in the sights and settle for a bit, get a job and then an apartment. Prime also understands the position he is in, how some people still only think of him as a mass murderer, but Lois reminds him that if he wants to disprove people he needs to think about what would Clark do…that’s when Prime has an epiphany, suddenly he page fills with tons of homage covers to classic Superman stuff (Jim Lee gargoyle pose cover, classic adventure and world’s finest comics, cutesy variant covers, and a JLI pose cover) where prime has replaced Superman as he wants to become the Superman that doesn’t have the baggage of family and can truly prove to everyone that he can be good…and maybe one day he can have his own number 1…Lois is confused as to what he means by this, but suddenly Prime is pulled away by an explosion on metropolis. As Lois reminds him not to hurt anyone, he assures her he is not that guy anymore.
It’s prime time now and Prime’s first chance to prove himself again, and as he puts it “someone busted out their dc encyclopedia” as the first villain he is going up a against is ignition! At first Prime does what comes naturally, running in and punching down the bad guys while making a great comment about ignition being “peak late-90’s design.” But this causes a ton of structural issues which begins to put people in danger, so he quickly thinks about what Superman would do and uses his powers to save them from the debris. He even returned a plush of Krypto to a kid before ignition blasted him away. This brought prime right back with a fury as he smashed ignition into the ground. But suddenly he walked up to ignition, relating that he man not be like Superman at all as he ripped ignition’s head off!! But something very interesting happens here as the page where he rips ignitions head off has a border for a comic preview page and suddenly Prime slips into the sketch portion as he realizes this isn’t him anymore. Prime looks around again to discover none of that was real or was all a vision in his head and right now the crowd is going wild for how great he is. That was strange but prime continues to think about what Clark would do and as he spots a nearby comic shop it all clicks. I love that the store is lined with Dan Mora art and as the owner is complaining about all the long boxes they don’t have sorted in the back…prime walls in and immediately points to their help wanted sign. The owner points him to a stack of books that need bagged and boarded and tells him to get started there and then they will see about a job…as prime literally fills a box in no time flat and offers to start tackling the ones in the back…he gets the job. Later that day Lois helped Prime move into his very terrible apartment where he has no furniture other than a mattress and the comic boxes the owner of the shop hooked him up with to get caught up on. But he doesn’t get much time to read before he dramatically rips open his shirt, for seemingly no reason other than to show off the brand on his chest, an rushes off to the sounds of people who need help. But as prime takes off we zoom out a bit to find someone watching him, someone who is aware of all the secrets his head holds and wants to manipulate it. It’s time for a British invasion as it’s none other than Manchester black and he looks AWFUL, I’m not sure where he popped up last but he also seems to be aware of the reader which is a terrifying concept but a great match up for prime.

After the events of DC KO, Superman won the championship and got the Omega Heart...only to use its power to turn everything back to normal before seemingly disappearing. Now that Metropolis has a Superman-sized hole that needs to be filled, and it's up to Superboy Prime to fill those shoes. Is he the Superman Metropolis needs?
After reading this issue of Superman, I'm actually kind of interested to see where things are heading. It was a short but very nice read that circles around Lois and Mr. Terrific wondering what to do now that Clark is seemingly gone. And now they have Superboy Prime, who seemingly appeared out of nowhere last issue and wonder what to do with him. He insists on being Superman in the original Clark's absence and, well, you'll have to read to find out how that turns out!
My first impression of Superboy Prime in #34 wasn't the best, but he's quickly growing on me. I look forward to seeing how he grows from here. No matter where this comic goes, it sure will be nice to look at thanks to Dan Mora's stellar art.
So when KO ended and they said Superboy prime would be the new MC of Superman, I almost dropped the book. But making this book is amazing and easily my favorite book of the week!
Dare I say this is my new favorite run oh my lawd. DAN MORA YOUVE DONE IT AGAIN.
This is genuinely one of the most beautifully illustrated supes comic I’ve read ughhhhh I’m in love with the art….. and like prime is beautiful GORGEOUS I love him…. Even tho he’s crazy yes idc that’s my mannnnn.
As I opened this, I wanted to groan because I remembered this series was in the middle of the stupid K.O. event. Then at the start, he mentions the event and event fatigue, and I have to admit I was amused.
┊ ̊➶ 。 ̊ ☁️ “Superman. Superman. Doing anything a Superman can" .ᐟજ⁀➴ 5 stars ✧ ⤷ thoughts.I haven't read a comic in a long time and after seeing superman prime all over my pintrest feed I had to see what the fuss was about. this guy is such a loser I love him.
Énorme vent de fraîcheur avec un Superboy Prime génialement mis en avant. Williamson sème plusieurs pistes à explorer avec le personnage, il a des idées et c'est très prometteur.
