Memorias de la amante de un millonario (Julia)

Rate this book

My Thoughts:

Quick recap: Cameron(Cam) is this big shot millionaire with a troubled childhood who worked his way up from the slums to make it to the top. Dymphna(Didi) is the opposite. She grew up in wealth & privilege but decided to give that all up when her family wanted her to go to college instead of going after her dream to become an artist. They meet while Didi is working at a waitress at an exclusive restuarant where Cam is attending a business meeting. Sparks fly & they end up starting a relationship based on sex.

I thought this was a pretty good novel from Harlequin. I've learned that I have to suspend alot of disbelief & lower my standards a little while reading this romance line. I thought Cam was a great hero. He's educated, handsome, compassionate, funny & has a great personality. He did charity work & helped out in soup kitchens on the weekends. His only problem is that he has let what happened to him during his childhood effect the relationships he has & has not chosen to have with others. I was immensely relieved to come across a hero who wasn't a total asshole. While he did push people, including Didi away, he was never cruel or mean to her. If anything, I think he put up with her bs antics too much.

My issue lies with our heroine, Didi. She's a spoiled biatch who makes presumptions about people she barely knows. Not to mention she is constantly blaming others for her mistakes. For example, she got fired from her job because she decided to open her mouth up & curse out Cam in front of his business associates. Does she accept the blame for her actions? Hells no. She huffs & puffs & even goes so far as to say it's his fault she got fired. No it's your fault for opening your damn mouth. Your a 23-year-old grown woman. Own up to your shit. Throughout the novel she places the blame for her actions either on him or her parents. Didi also comes off as a huge snob. She acts like she's this poor, misunderstood artist who has such a hard life & thinks that qualifies her to pass judgements on wealthy people. She too came from a wealthy family & grew up with love. There's a big difference between living paycheck-to-paycheck because you haven't been able to find a great job or have been given the shit end of the stick & what Didi in fact is although she pretends she's not. She CHOSE to live in poverty. She CHOSE to write her family out of her life when all they were trying to do was look out for her. I found myself wanting to smack her upside the head & scream at her about how lucky she was on many occasions.

If it wasn't for the obnoxious heroine, this novel definitely would've gotten at least 3 stars. Ahh well. I'll hit the gold mine one of these days.

Nice story, for a Presents. Heroine is a ditzy redhead. Hero is a workaholic tycoon with a dark past. She sneaks in his yard hunting a kitty, he wants to punish her for trespassing, but she's so cute. He "blackmails" her into coming to New York for an affair and matters proceed.
