Even though the town gets top billing, there's not much of a sense of place to Fingerpori from Finland. There's also no ongoing story, since both the setting and characters exist solely to move along that day's joke. As for the jokes, most of them are exactly the kind of fast food humor you would expect in an American newspaper strip.
Then again, there are a lot of jokes that would never make it into American newspapers. Most of these involve sex, Nazis, and/or shitting cats, plus a few other topics that would provoke letters to the editor in Dubuque and probably don't even raise an eyebrow in Helsinki. A lot of the jokes and puns are also gloriously dumb, and you end up laughing in spite of yourself. I'm not quite sure I recommend this collection, but I certainly enjoyed reading it.
Picked this up on a whim from the book fair. Fun read, and more than a little Finnish humor. It's a shame some of the better jokes don't translate as well. A perfect book to have in the bathroom.
