Unmistakably Yours

Rate this book
Mia has built a life she’s proud of—co-owning a flower and café shop with her sister, grounded in creativity, culture, and the chosen family that has held her together. As she navigates complicated, often painful family dynamics—especially with her father—Mia is learning how to protect her peace without hardening herself in the process. Love isn’t something she’s chasing; if it comes, it has to meet her where she is.

Khalid comes to California carrying unfinished grief and the weight of a past relationship he’s finally beginning to see clearly. Still processing the loss of his grandfather—the person who anchored him most—and navigating the fallout of a toxic ex dynamic, Khalid is focused on choosing himself for once. On a temporary contract and determined to keep his distance, he isn’t looking for anything permanent—until an unexpected connection challenges the walls he’s built.

As their lives intersect, Unmistakably Yours explores Black love, healing, and the courage it takes to choose yourself without closing your heart. But when an unexpected altering moment changes everything and timing is fleeting, both Mia and Khalid are forced to confront feelings they never planned to face. Woven with sisterhood, cultural identity, and the quiet power of chosen family, this story asks what becomes possible when two people are finally ready for the love in front of them.

Hi, I’m Nini 🤎 I write love stories for people who are healing, growing, and learning how to be loved the right way. Unmistakably Yours is very personal to me it was written as I was five months post parturm and healing apart of me. While it's a short cozy read, it explores the strengh found in community, sisterhood, and the courage to begin again. If you love stories about romance, black romance specifically, soft love, and the kind of connection that changes you, you’re in the right place.

I am beyond honored to have received an early copy of Unmistakably Yours by Nini Lester, and let me just say this story does not whisper its way into your heart. It settles in gently, then blooms in the most breathtaking way.

This is contemporary Black romance at its finest. Sisterhood is not just a backdrop here, it is the backbone. The love between women, the safety of chosen family, and the quiet strength found in community feel so real you can almost reach out and touch it. The exploration of grief is tender and honest, never rushed, never forced. It allows the characters to break open and rebuild in ways that feel deeply human.

And the romance. Whew. The love that unfolds is soft, intentional, and completely undeniable. Neither of them plans for it, but when it comes, it feels like fate wrapped in patience and emotional maturity. Watching them choose each other again and again is both swoon worthy and healing. The on page intimacy is passionate and spicy, but it is also rooted in trust and vulnerability, which makes it that much more powerful.

Nini Lester’s debut feels confident, heartfelt, and unforgettable. There is intention in every chapter and care in every emotional beat. This story celebrates Black love, resilience, and the beauty of being fully seen.

I am so excited for everyone to experience this journey.

First things first… this book? Yeah, it’s a vibe. A cozy, soft, low-toxicity kind of read that you take with you on a train, a flight, or even just a quick little trip—and next thing you know, you’ve been gone for hours but it felt like minutes. That’s how you know it did what it needed to do. It pulled you in and held you there.

Now let me talk to you real…

The moment I cracked this book open, baby… it had me. I’m talking about reading at work, sneaking chapters in at school, and picking it right back up in every little in-between moment I could find. Whole time I’m supposed to be studying for Anatomy & Physiology… but chile, this book said “not today.” And I listened 😭. When I say it had its hooks in me? Yeah… I wasn’t going nowhere.

This Black love story right here? Whew. It’s soft. It’s intentional. It’s the kind of love that don’t feel performative or forced. It’s gentle but strong. Real but still feels like a fairytale. The kind that makes you sit back like… “yeah, this is the kind of love I know exists.” The kind you pray for, the kind you recognize.

Khalid and Mia? Oh, they did what needed to be done. Their connection just flows. No pressure, no weird energy—just alignment. The way they show up for each other, the way they listen, the way they choose each other over and over again? Yeah… that’s the part. You feel it in the quiet moments just as much as the big ones. It’s giving “God really placed you in my life on purpose.” And I love that for them, bad.

And can we talk about the sisterhood? Because babyyyy, that’s what really wrapped me up. The women in Mia’s life? That’s love. That’s safety. That’s “you don’t gotta shrink to fit in over here.” It’s laughter, honesty, accountability, and “I got you no matter what” all in one space. That kind of sisterhood that pours into you while holding you accountable? Yeah… we need more of that. It felt real, it felt familiar, it felt like home.

Now Mia… whew. She’s that girl, but not in a perfect way—in a real way. Watching her navigate her family, her emotions, her growth… it hit. It got heavy at times, I’m not even gonna lie. But what I loved most is how she chose herself. Again and again. Even when it was uncomfortable. Even when it hurt. She didn’t run from it—she grew through it. That kind of healing journey? That’s powerful. That’s the kind of character that stays with you.

And when I finished the book? I just sat there like… wow. Like my heart really felt full. You can tell this author poured into this story with intention. Every page felt like care. Like purpose. This wasn’t just a book—it was an experience. Love, growth, healing, softness… all wrapped together in the most beautiful way.

This is the kind of book you recommend to your girls immediately. Like “no, you need to read this.” The kind that reminds you love is still soft, still safe, still real.

And me? I’m already waiting. Because if this is what she gave us here? Oh yeah… she just getting started. 💛✨

Unmistakably Yours by Nini Lester is a heartfelt contemporary romance that leans into chemistry and emotional vulnerability.

From the very beginning, Mia and Khalid’s connection feels effortless and real. Their instant chemistry jumps off the page, but what makes it even more engaging is how naturally they align- their shared interests, desires, and overall vibe make their relationship feel authentic and easy to root for.

Khalid, navigating grief after the loss of his grandfather, brings emotional depth to the story. His vulnerability adds weight to the romance. Mia, on the other hand, carries her own emotional baggage with a strained relationship with her father, which subtly influences how she shows up in love.

What made this story feel especially real was the tension surrounding communication. Mia’s hesitation to initiate the “what are we?” conversation—especially with Khalid’s temporary assignment looming—was both relatable and frustrating. You understand her fear, but at the same time, you can’t help but wish she would speak up before time makes the decision for her.

Overall, this is a story about timing, emotional readiness, and the risks we take (or avoid) in love. Unmistakably Yours delivers a soft but impactful romance that will resonate with anyone who’s ever been afraid to communicate in a way that could change everything.

BEAUTIFUL FEELS RIGHT" ENERGY.

SWEET, HEARTFELT, AND UNMISTAKABLY BEAUTIFUL.

I'M EXTREMELY GRATEFUL TO HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO ARC READ UNMISTAKABLY YOURS BY NINI LESTER.

THIS ONE IS FOR THE LOVERS - THE ONES WHO BELIEVE IN SOULMATES, WHO VALUE SISTERHOOD, FAMILY, AND COMMUNITY. I WAS COMPLETELY PULLED INTO THE CONNECTIONS IN THIS STORY. NOT JUST BETWEEN THE TWO MAIN CHARACTERS. BUT ALSO THE SISTERLY BOND BETWEEN

MIA AND HER SISTERS, AND THE STRONG

FAMILY TIES SURROUNDING KAHLID.

THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THE MAIN

CHARACTERS FELT NATURAL, NEVER FORCED. I LOVED HOW THEIR

RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPED OVER TIME INSTEAD OF FEELING RUSHED. GETTING BOTH PERSPECTIVES ADDED SO MUCH

DEPTH. AND SEEING TWO PEOPLE FROM

COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PATHS FIND THEIR WAY TO EACH OTHER WAS TRULY

WHAT STOOD OUT TO ME MOST WAS THE EMOTIONAL DEPTH. THIS WASN'T JUST A ROMANCE - IT WAS ABOUT GROWTH.

TIMING, AND CHOOSING LOVE EVEN WHILE FIGURING LIFE OUT. THOSE ARE THE KINDS OF STORIES THAT ALWAYS HIT A LITTLE DEEPER FOR ME

THE WRITING FLOWED EFFORTLESSLY,

MAKING IT ONE OF THOSE BOOKS YOU CAN JUST SETTLE INTO AND ENJOY. IT GAVE SOFT, COMFORTING, "THIS JUST

I LOVED IT SO MUCH I HAD TO SLIDE INTO THE AUTHOR'S INBOX TO TELL HER SMILED THE ENTIRE TIME.

AND THAT LAST CHAPTER? IT HAD MY HOPELESS ROMANTIC HEART SWOONING

I’m an Aries with a tough side, but at heart I’m a lover girl who loves a good romance, and this book delivered.

Khalid is the kind of man I love to read about: intentional, direct, and not interested in playing games. He leaves home searching for something different, love instead of control and a life not defined by grief.

Mia is a fellow lover girl who falls hard and hopes for a love better than what she’s seen and experienced before.

What I appreciated most is that this story shows a love that doesn’t have to be built from trauma or endless struggle. Sometimes the connection is just right from the start… when you know, you know.

And when the spice hit… it definitely delivered 🤭.

I’m looking forward to reading more from Nini Lester.

This was my first time reading Nini Lester's work & I WAS IMPRESSED! I ADORED the love story between Mia & Khalid. I was so intrigued by their dynamic & eager to read them explore new territory with each other. The cultural representation was SPOT ON! From family settings all the way to FOOD! I really enjoyed the scope on family in this love story as well, seeing how family is very much an anchor for both characters. Loving with INTENTION was a major theme for this love story, and reading these characters development was quite enjoyable! I would highly recommend this book be added to your TBR once released so that you can just be in awe of how Mia & Khalid navigate coming into each others orbit. And the CHEMISTRY between them YESSSS EVERYTHING! They know how to HEAT UP A PLACE!

This book pulled so many emotional strings from Khalid leaving everything behind including his past connection in his home state starting over, to Mia's emotionally tugging story of her family dynamic and how she moves effortlessly through her tests of a true meaning of how she perceives love. The leaps and hurdles that brought these two together in this dual POV style, black romance is executed exceptionally well. A short but powerful read, as the two main characters find genuine love, peace, and joy in the simpler things that matter to them. Nothing but smiles came across my face as the relationship developed over time between the 2 and I'm sure if you chose to pick up this book you'd feel the same!

This was such a cute and enjoyable read! I finished it in a day, and just really liked the overall feel of the story.

I’m always here for a good love-at-first-sight moment because girl… same 😂 and this one delivered that in such a sweet, easy way. I also appreciated the themes of healing, family, and learning how to choose yourself while still being open to love.

I did find myself wanting a little more time with the characters and their journey, just because I was enjoying them and wanted to stay in their world a bit longer!

But overall, it was a really solid, feel-good romance that was easy to get into and left me with a warm feeling.

Where do I start? This was such a beautiful read. I immediately felt connected to the main character, she honestly felt like a girlfriend! I loved the dual perspectives; seeing the story through both main characters’ eyes made their emotions and journey feel so real. The character development and relationship growth were natural and believable. The story had surprises, a few teary-eyed moments, laughs, and some spicy scenes that never felt overdone. I genuinely loved this book and can’t wait for the next one (and the one after that!)

This story pulled me in from the very beginning and held my attention all the way through. The way the author brought together two individuals from completely different paths and allowed their connection to unfold felt both powerful and authentic. I loved how ambition, growth, and love were all woven together, it made the story feel real and inspiring at the same time. It’s a beautiful reminder that what’s meant for you will find you, no matter how different the journey looks. Truly such a captivating and meaningful read.

Unmistakably Yours is a great read that will not take up too much of your time. A short but sweet contemporary love story regarding black love that will suck you in to the lives of both Mia and Khalid, where the daily choices of life’s curve balls and decisions help to shape not only who they become but also what they are willing to deal with. It makes you wonder if the inconveniences of life help to develop us or challenge us to be who and where we are meant to be.

I am and will forever be a sucker for a cutesy love story.

Mia and Khalid are easy. The attraction instant. The communication flowing. A story of what happens when you focus on yourself and not allow the pressure of what 'should' be impact the natural development of things. Everyone's journey is different. While both figuring out what being selfish means to them, they fell into each other and found exactly what they needed.
