Iris Bennet has always kept to herself. She knows exactly how her school works. People like Valeria Cruz don't notice girls like her unless it's to make their lives worse, and for years, that's exactly what Valeria has done. She's popular, rich, and the kind of girl no one ever questions. Iris should hate her. She kind of does. But when she starts tutoring Valeria's younger sister, things shift in a way neither of them expected. Then it turns into something secret. Something that only exists behind closed doors. Valeria doesn't do feelings, and Iris knows better than to fall for someone like her. But the more time they spend together, the harder it becomes to pretend. And Valeria Cruz She might be the one person who can ruin her.
Well, I really did not like this. It was badly written even without taking into account the grammatical errors such as missing letters, capitalization, etc.
I didn't know what to expect coming from this but I certainly did not expect what I got. It was extremely repetitive, and the book was written like this in every chapter:
“You’re quiet again,” she says suddenly. “So are you.” “I’m thinking.” “That’s worse.”
“You did.” “I know.” “And you meant it.” “I didn’t.”
I pull back first. Not suddenly. Just enough to break it.
It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t polished. It was just her. And I said yes. Not because I thought about it too much. Just because it felt easy.
These are just some of the examples. It was truly driving me insane, having to read the same things over and over again in every chapter.
The dialogue often did not make sense and it was hard to tell who of the two main characters were talking, because they truly sounded the same. It was also hard to tell whose point of view it was without having to look back at the beginning of the chapter for their names.
Valeria did not make sense even from the perspective of a high schooler. She would confront Iris about being with another girl (who by the way, was a much better pair for Iris, I have to say), and then somehow turn back around in the same moment and tell Iris not to overthink it and this meant nothing. Okay, if the author explained she suffered from short term memory loss I would oblige. Alas, that was not the case.
For those reading for the explicit scenes, allow me to stop you before you go on and tell you that, as much as the rest of the book, it was almost unreadable.
For the positive aspects, as someone that does not like to discontinue books, this was fast paced enough to finish in 1h and so, so the horrors lasted shortly.
Ruin Me has ruined me. Because I wasted an hour or so of my night reading this.
How did this come out of the same author as Loathing You? I'm not a fan of Loathing You but that book at least tried. It had some consistency and characters with decent depth. This book does not even try. It feels like the draft of a thirteen-year old attempting to publish their first queer Wattpad original story thinking it's ground-breaking.
Also I cannot ignore the blatant use of AI-imagery to promote this book. I do not have respect for any author who utilizes AI for promotional purposes since the following question rises: How do I know you are not using that in your writing?
At least I know they aren't for this book due to the CONSTANT GRAMMATICAL ERRORS. I read "se" somewhere instead of "she". This shows that this was a careless publish as well. Nobody bothered to reread what was written down.
Onto the book itself. It's shit. I have nothing kind to say. I attempt to always find something redeeming in a book but I cannot find anything redeeming whatsoever in Ruin Me. It's repetitive, boring, frustrating, inconsistent and so much more. The writing does not help since it severely lacks any personality. It's rushed and messy in many scenes. There's no actual intimacy, or proper build-up. The interactions between the supposed couple are bland and unnatural.
It's just bad. Like don't waste your time. This is just disappointing from an author I thought would actually grow.
this entire book could’ve been written in the span of about 75 pages and they somehow managed to stretch it to over 200 by including 5 sentences on every page (I read the e-book version so it may differ with a physical copy). I’m almost 100% sure this story was simply a wattpad/ao3 book that was published. it was full of spelling errors and the author doesn’t understand that an I needs to be capitalized. The charecters have no connections whatsoever and the same descriptions are repeated at least 15 times within the span of 3 chapters. I paid 6 dollars for it and to be honest I don’t think i’d even read it for free. Just don’t read it.
i’m not even going to pretend this shit was remotely good, wasn’t spicy, wasn’t love, wasn’t fun, the FMC never had 1 proper conversation in 20 chapters, the dialogue was so fkn confusing, everything was shallow (the characters, the story, every scene)
I really wanted to like this as the idea of it was good and something I would usually enjoy but unfortunately the style and writing doesn’t back it up.
It’s repetitive and juvenile whilst trying to be more.
The dialogue is so clipped and abrupt that you can’t just put it down to the style or the personality of the characters…it’s just not written as well as it could be.
I read a lot of books and always like to read indie authors and support them but in this case the book needed more time spent on it, more refinement and a huge amount of editing and proofing.
The idea is great and with someone beta reading and editing plus some more time spent on the story as a whole but especially the dialogue it could have been better.
I wouldn’t recommend unfortunately but hope the author can work on things for their next release.
I thought this book was really good. There was a few spelling mistakes and sometimes circling back with phrases and words. But I thought overall the book was really good and displays passion with self guilt. I loved the book
The book was super boring from the very beginning. It felt like it started out of nowhere, and you never really get a chance to know the characters. There’s no interesting story, no build-up, and nothing particularly original. The conversations were repetitive, and most of the time they didn’t even make sense. The writing style was awful, with spaces everywhere, as if every sentence was supposed to be dramatic. Instead, it was just annoying. Every chapter felt the same, and after a while, it was honestly funny to keep reading the same sentences and phrases over and over again. Even the smut scenes weren’t interesting because there was no good story behind them. Everything felt bland and shallow—the writing, the story, the characters, and their relationships. Valeria and Iris barely had any personalities. The only things we’re constantly told are that Iris is “always quiet” and Valeria is “popular.” Valeria also seems to say “it just is” and “I don’t know” every other sentence. There’s so little distinction between them that it’s sometimes difficult to tell who is speaking without looking at the character’s name at the beginning of the chapter. Their actions were also incredibly uninteresting and often made no sense. Valeria repeatedly insists throughout the entire book that their relationship is “just physical,” only to later break into Iris’s house and start beating Lila for seemingly no reason. The characters’ behavior felt less like something that naturally followed from their personalities and more like whatever was needed to force the next scene. Overall, everything felt repetitive, shallow, and poorly developed. In short, don’t bother reading this book.

Is life that serious now that I think this is my first easiest read for two years? ( I guess so...) Thanks to the gayest eye tension that was hundred percent conveyed in this book, I wouldn't survive without it. Also, the public kiss made me wish i had something like that during high school xD
Genuinely cannot recommend reading this book. The story is very cliché and kinda weird - there's no logical romantic development; it's just straight up bullying to somehow "I'm in love with you." The book tried to have so many tropes it ended up being good at none.
But the biggest issue is how repetitive it felt. I genuinely feel like I read the same thing twice every time the POV changed. It got so bad I thought I was rereading the chapter I just finished. Not to mention the dialogue was extremely boring and felt like it was written to reach a word count and not to actually say something.
The book simply feels poorly written, unfinished, rushed, and. There are countless spelling and grammar mistakes on top of the story lacking any real depth. I'd stay away from this book.
If you think about it from a teenage pov, it was very accurate, but that ending omg! I wasn't really hooked from the beggining, but it totally got me at the end
This book um feels very stiff 90% of the time, the characters don’t really feel like they have a lot of layers to them and the dialogue feels very repetitive most of the time to the point where the characters feel exactly the same same. It also feels like the characters have moments where they explain the relationship but you don’t really feel it at all. There are even moments where i question if some of this could possibly be AI generated. Overall, it’s just okay it’s not that great as far as story telling and characters but it’s something to read if you’re into a little bit of spiciness.
I have never in my life laughed so hard while reading a book. I'd assume it wasn't the author's intention, but it did a great job entertaining me and my girlfriend. I recommend reading this book with someone, although reading alone could also be a lot of fun. I feel like something was missing at the start, because I didn't understand what they were pretending to ignore, since like nothing had yet happened. idk. also the whole description of the book is kind of unfit, because there wasn't any bullying or hate, they were just staring at each other the whole time. The writing is repetitive, not just the dialog, but also the other stuff. For example, every chpater had something like
It shouldnt feel like this.
It does.
or
I enjoyed this book.
Not because it was well written.
Not because it had any depth.
But because it was funny af.
and every chapter the silence is heavy, everything is different than before and their actions are calculated and controlled and a ton more. I think the style is like this to be dramatic but its just overdoing it. Maybe the author already had scenes with the MC's in mind before starting the book, but there wasn't anyhting filling the in-between. The friendship between Elena and Valeria could have been explored. Or even a bit more sisterhood. Something happening outside of them just saying all these words and literally nothing at all to each other. Anything to make it have more depth and originality. Cause it feels like the same cliche scene or/and diolog over and over. It even had the Oh. and then another Oh. but in italic, which in my opinion was super out of place, but whatever. It is super impressive to write and publish a book as a teenager, and hopefully the bad reviews don't discourage the author and they continue writing, using the criticism as a helping tool to grow and perfect their art, rather than something negative.
I purchased this book after seeing some good reviews on tik tok and was very underwhelmed.
it begun and it felt like i was dropped in the middle of the story, like there was a lot of background information that could have been shared but we didn’t get to experience it.
The characters seemed really interesting, especially with the ounce of home life info we got to know, i would have loved to dive further into that side of the characters before they had gotten closer.
It was very quick that the characters got intimate and honestly it felt as if i was reading completely different characters, the way they spoke to each other in those private moments were so different to the bickering we had known them by, but again, we don’t really know the characters all that well, they seemed to have known each other for a long time so there could be backstory as to why they spoke to each other in that way in those personal moments.
overall this book has a lot of potential if there was more to it, but seemed like a bit of a rush, especially with the spelling mistakes i had come across whilst reading it.
Firstly, which is something I havent seen many other people say, is that I was incredibly uncomfortable reading a book about 2 highschoolers that has very, very, extremely detailed sex scenes. Actually, I think the sex scenes were the most descriptive and, unfortunately, engaging parts of the entire story. Even if they characters are supposed to be 18+, they are still in school and most of the story takes place either in school or having to do with school activities (i.e. calculus, tutoring, bullying, prom, etc). Personally, I could not get past that part and it is one of the main reasons I decided to DNF the book.
Additionally, like many others have pointed out, the chapters are extremely repetitive and honestly the back and forth dialogue does not add much to the plot or the story bc they are constantly saying the same things over and over again. Very annoying to read, especially after seeing so many good reviews about it online !!
I personally know the author so this review might be biased! But i just want to start off by saying the author is a literal teenager and this book is meant for TEENAGERS. So if you’re an adult don’t complain about the smut this book isn't for you! Secondly i find it funny how we say publishing needs to be more inclusive and then when someone self publishes everyone rips them to shreds for the formatting or spelling mistakes, not everyone can afford an editor or anything else! I would know i was in the same boat. Also find it funny how some people are saying its ai but then in the same breath saying it has a bunch of spelling mistakes lmfao. The author has a lot of promise since shes just a a kid starting out, i enjoyed the book. The spice was 10/10 and the story was good, the format was definitely lacking but that’s something that can be improved!
i really wanted to love this book because the plot is the kind of story i gravitate toward; emotional, messy, and full of tension. it’s the kind of premise that makes you yearn.
but the writing made it hard to stay immersed.
the dialogue feels shallow, and there’s very little narration grounding the scenes. most conversations are just lines of dialogue back-to-back, with barely any cues, descriptions, or internal thoughts to know who’s speaking or what’s happening. because of that, i kept getting lost mid-conversation and had to go back and reread just to figure out who was talking.
because of this, it was hard for me to stay engaged with the story. overall, it’s a story i wanted to get lost in but the writing style made it really difficult to focus.
this was awful omggg its like everything happened too fast but at the same time nothing happened, too repetitive in the writing and in the scenarios like okay another study session where they say the same thing over again. at one point i thought i was going crazy bc i couldve sworn i'd already read what i was reading. also, i dont think they ever had a real conversation about anything ????? they were just like Ure starting U too U do that a lot Ure doing that again She fliches and nobody notices but i dont bc i know her even tho i never talked to her errrrkay. pissed me off idk how i finished it
Also that girl did not lie about the to be continued which I don't really like.
Regardless of this I liked the short story, I screamed ( silently) in my room and kicked my feet and got stressed. Amazing It could have been greater if it was longer and with a slower pace. It felt like a mix of all the things you said + casual + I'll be watching you + glue + midnight love + purple rain

I really wanted to like this one more than I did because the premise had so much potential. Secret romance? Bully vibes? Emotional angst? Sign me up.
Unfortunately, it just didn't quite get there for me. The pacing felt a little uneven but it wasn't a terrible book by any means. I finished it, and I can definitely see why it might work for other readers. It just never gave me the emotional payoff or tension I was hoping for.
DNF. Repetitive, feels like there only one dimension. Can’t really explore the world of the book much. Don’t know how to explain it kinda feels gray and missing a few things. Feels very flat and the characters especially the main ones feel like they’re the same person (I think like tones feel similar). Pacing is weird too, kinda feels a little rushed.
