Ari has only known a life of servitude in Noctharn. As a mortal, seen as weak by the powers in her kingdom, she has endured sixteen long years of torment in the soulfire mines. She, like most in Lumin, despises eldarim, the elite members of society with the right to claim immortality from Althara, the highest power in the realm.
Desperate to provide a better life for her mother, when the king calls for fighters, assassins, and hunters to search for his lost heir, Ari doesn’t hesitate to join the quest.
What she doesn’t realize is that Lincoln Ashfield, the most skilled assassin in Noctharn, has joined it, too.
But Ari doesn’t give up easily. She would rather die trying than stay stagnant, and she will stop at nothing to find the lost heir and earn the life she deserves.
Taylor is originally from Massachusetts, but now lives in Austin, Texas. She can usually be found with a beer, book, or coffee in hand. Her love for books started when she read Percy Jackson in fifth grade, and the rest is history.
I was a beta reader for The Queen’s Curse and had an advanced copy. I absolutely LOVED IT. The character development, the challenges the characters overcome, the storyline were just to die for. The plot twist had me in a choke hold… I seriously can’t wait to read the finished version of this. You want a GOOD READ- then it starts here. Incredible job by the author Taylor Ugrinow 5/5 stars- would give 20/5 if I could!!!
Thank you to Taylor for gifting me an e-arc of the book.

Guys I’m literally so obsessed with this book! It has everything you could want from a fantasy! I feel like many romantasy books I’ve read have been lacking politics and are insta-lust, but this one was so different. I love the FMC Ari and the MMC Lincoln. The friendship Ari made along the way melted my heart.
I cannot wait for the next book. Do yourself a favor and pick this book up June 23rd!
I’ve been following the lovely Taylor Ugrinow since she began posting about her writing journey back in February of 2025. What a long way she’s come since then. This passion project became something so inspiring to witness, and special to her. She poured her time, her efforts, her passion, and creativity into this incredible book, and I couldn’t be more darn proud of her. It’s been a privilege to witness your creative journey and skills increase over the last year, and to have had early access to reading your work. This is only the beginning of what I’m certain will be a creatively fulfilling writing career. You should be so proud of your work!
More than excited to read this one, I have been following enough time to know this is going to be such a good book! Cant wait for 23 of June this year to hold a copy and read it in a day or two! (Sorry Taylor I just know this wont wait long before being finished) !!!
Thank you so so much for an ARC!! 3.5 ⭐️ rounded up to 4.
This a fast-paced, easy read and a great debut! I was able to read it in less than 12 hours total and had a great time the whole way through. It definitely fits well on my vibes read list. It’s one of those fun romantasies that, while a little tropey, scratches that itch. Also it has super short chapters (3-12 min reads) which I LOVE, give me 50 short chapters over 20 long ones any day.
Our FMC Ari felt like a real person who had flaws and made mistakes without acting childish which I always appreciate in a main character. Lincoln our MMC was intriguing and I didn’t mind his behaviors, though his need to protect Ari at 25% did feel a little insta-lovey to me, but by the end I appreciated their romance.
I was a little annoyed when some of the POVs hoped back in time, but that’s a personal preference. I dislike when multi-POV books repeat scenes or dialogue.
SPOILERS BELOW
I was SHOCKED when Ella died and that broke my heart. However, that happened at 40% and Ari was sad for about 2 chapters then Ella was hardly mentioned again. It almost felt like Ella was just there so Ari wasn’t alone until forced to work with Lincoln. Also Lincoln killing Finley also meant that Ari didn’t even get to avenge Ella’s death.
Now for the big plot twist reveal at the end……I do take issue with it the same way I took issue with Metal Slinger in that we are in Ari’s head as this is written in first person, therefore her having such a big secret from the reader is a little unrealistic. She would have motivations that we would be privy to given the POV. I also brushed off her being the heir because it felt too “obvious” and then that ended up being the case which made a little sad because I wanted something a little more.
All in all, I definitely want to read book 2 because the writing style is addictive and despite being predictable I do care about the characters and want to see how Ari uses her power to take down her father.

There was not one moment throughout this story where I could put this book down. The world this story was set in was magical, enchanting and eerie. All throughout this story I was constantly thinking “what’s going to happen next??” “What’s does this mean?” And “OH MY GOD”.
Our FMC Ari is an absolute baddie and does not take shit from anyone. Although she’s incredibly guarded, her personality shines through in the best way possible. Learning more about her upbringing and watching the layers of her character unravel throughout the book was honestly one of my favourite parts and it gave so much depth and insight into who she truly is.
Our MMC Lincoln is to DIE for. Ugh the things he says to Ari had me swooning, giggling and slapping my hand over my mouth. He’s mysterious, secretive, and constantly keeps you guessing, but when we finally learn more about who he is and the reasons behind his actions was so worth it.
Together, Ari and Lincoln are everything. The banter, the wit, the tension, the emotional moments and just every interaction between them felt addictive. I genuinely enjoyed this pairing so so much.
The plot twist at the end of the book had me gasping as much as I did at the end of Metal Slinger…iykyk.
Overall, Taylor has done an outstanding job at her debut novel and her writing style is captivating and had me transported into a different world. I will absolutely be waiting for book 2 in this duology.
I think one of the best and most unexpected parts of this book was the underlying parts of the two main characters showing their struggles with being who they wish/want to be and being what's needed for their greater goals. Additionally, the power of someone's origin and backstory was done SO WELL. Through the book since you hear/learn about Ari and Lincoln's pasts and how they influences their present, you understand their goals more clearly and it feels actually believable! I also really enjoyed the variety of creatures and regions. It was unexpected which is good and works out well.
I will say... what were those last chapters!?!?!? I kept gasping and sitting up in my seat like "what am I reading" "is this really happening" "omg that's so clever". The ending was both the best and worst (you'll get what I mean when you read it lol).
I could keep going but don't want to spoil stuff (lol) so I will end with saying... I read this book in one day! It was so easy to read and I was very eager to find out the ending 🐍🗡️
I am SO beyond impressed by Taylor’s first published book. The amount of time, dedication, and heart she poured into this story truly shows on every page. It’s such an incredible accomplishment and you can feel how much this meant to her.
I absolutely fell in love with the FMC (Ari) —she’s strong, fearless, and honestly such a badass. Her witty banter had me laughing out loud more than once, which just made me love her even more.
One of my favorite parts was how invested I became in all the relationships throughout the book. You really grow attached to the characters and their journeys, which makes everything hit that much harder.
And that ending… 😩. Gut-wrenching (in the best way). and I’m still thinking about it. I genuinely cannot wait to see what comes next—count me down for book two already!
I was lucky enough to be selected as a beta reader and receive a copy before its release date and wow this story is amazing. Very different than a lot of fantasy books I've read in the past in all the best ways. Deep, funny, layered characters, adventures galore, and a gut-wrenching ending; what more could you ask for? I am jealous I can't read this for the first time and experience all the feelings I had the first go around but reading it again has opened my eyes to all the easter eggs Taylor has cleverly put in-between the lines. Please please give this book a go you will not regret it and a huge thank you and congratulations to Taylor! I can't wait to purchase your book and add it to my collection, and I will be patiently waiting for the next!
The Queen’s Curse was an enjoyable read with a strong fantasy atmosphere and an interesting storyline. The world-building was creative, and the characters kept me invested throughout the book. I especially liked the mix of mystery, magic, and emotional moments woven into the plot.
While there were a few parts that felt a bit slow or could have used more development, the overall story was engaging and entertaining. Fans of fantasy and royal intrigue will likely have a good time with this book. Looking forward to seeing what the happens next!
this book genuinely broke my heart multiple times and stitched it back together!!😭🥹🫶🏻
ARC review — What a terrific debut novel! This book was engaging from start to finish. The characters felt real and well-developed, and the story moved at a perfect pace that kept me turning the pages. Taylor has a wonderful talent for creating vivid scenes and emotional moments that stay with you long after you finish the book. Throughout the book, you could tell there were inspirations drawn from some childhood favorite books and movies, which felt exciting and familiar. I’m excited to see what she writes next and would highly recommend this novel to anyone looking for a compelling and memorable read!!
When I say this book is un-put-downable, I mean it. The plot is constantly moving, never slowing so that you lose interest! The characters are intriguing, and the story itself feels so fast paced: in fact, that's my ONLY potential note is that if you're looking for longer, drawn out scenes, I'd say this book is moreso focused on moving forward. That said, Taylor accomplishes a LOT in this story very quickly and it feels like you're speeding through the pages, while realizing at the end that you've finished and you're thinking, "wait. I have to wait for BOOK TWO NOW?!" 4.75/5 stars!!
The Queen’s Curse arc was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Every line had me completely hooked, and the storytelling was on another level. The tension, the emotional moments, and the unexpected twists made this arc unforgettable. Ari herself was such a powerful and well-written character, and the way the quest slowly unfolded kept everything intense and mysterious. And let’s not talk about that TENSION??? Lincoln??? (Idk if I spell it correctly but OMG TAYLORRRRRRR)
Anyways, five stars ⭐️ amazing and can’t wait for book two! Thanks again for the arc 🥹🫶
i’m screaming, this book was so good i devoured it in a day. taylor your writing style is gorgeous. i am in love with your world and your characters. the plot twist at the end ahh!! i will be reading this again asap. i am obsessed with this story, i can’t wait for book two i’m crying internally that it’s not written yet. ari is such a girlboss and lincoln i LOVE. this is an incredible debut book and i hope it gets the recognition it deserves!
I was lucky to receive an ARC from Taylor and I will be eternally grateful that I was given this opportunity.
The Queen’s curse was an interesting read, I can’t wait for other people to be able to read it. I love the interactions between Ari and Lincoln The ending wasn’t what I expected it to be, 100% would recommend to anyone who is looking for this type of book, or who is looking for a new author to love and support!! Can’t wait for the sequel!!! Thank you Taylor Ugrinow
Hooked me in quick at the beginning! Ari is a strong FMC who had a hard childhood from the start (though she does get her butt saved a lot from the love interest throughout the story) and decides to embark on a quest to find a lost heir of her King.
I was a little lost on some of the elements of the magic, but an intriguing read, and excited to see what happens next with Ari and Lincoln!
I received an ARC for this book and was blown away! The writing is different, but refreshing! I have been in a fantasy slump and this helped me get out of it! It was fast paced and never a dull moment! The magic system was easy to understand and I can't wait for book 2!!! Taylor might be my new favorite author
ARC REVIEW! ok it was a little slow to start in my opinion but it definitely picked up. And don’t even get me started on Ari and Lincoln 🤭 they were so freaking cute I loved them The plot was good and flowed well and that ending was honestly so shocking……
Thank you Taylor, and I will so be looking forward to the next one!
The worldbuilding had me at the start of the book. I love the character of Ari, how powerful she is and how dedicated she is to achieving her goal. But again, the worldbuilding: you'll feel like you're in this world with the characters, going on their high-stakes quest, holding your breath when they hold theirs, crying when they cry too. And the ending??? THE ENDING??? Chef's kiss.
Holy COW!! This is an exceptional debut! From the start I knew who Ari was, but the plot twists kept COMING in the end. My mind is still reeling about it and I can’t wait for book 2! So excited and happy for you Taylor, YOU KILLED IT!!
I was honored to be a part of the authors street team and receive an ARC copy!
I loved this book so much, and the plot twist was crazy, I can't wait for book 2 to see how everything is going to change. One of the best reads of the year, I couldn't put it down!
Wow we.. I never thought I would love this type of book since it wasn’t in my genre of books but girl this book hit the spot. I know this book hasn’t come out yet but I really really want her second book already. <3 (I’m not a big reviewer but I try my best)
This book was SO good. I was actually feeling burnt out on fantasy prior to reading this & it sucked me right in. The plot and characters are so well done and original- it’s not the same story over and over. Also the plot twist at the end?! I was SHOOK and cannot wait for more. I think I’d need to read this book several times to catch all the Easter eggs.
