Even if I haven’t read the first book it was easy to get into. I had a little hard with the concept of the book due to the fact that it’s short adventures with marissa and I had trouble staying into the book when the story changed every adventure. she wasn’t necessarily the most likable character but I liked that. It reflects well with her age and how not everyone is the nice sunshine character.

The book is about a young and powerful sorceress called Marissa Cobalt. We get to follow her during her adventures and you get to see how she grows with it.

Solid three star book

Enjoyable and easy read! This book surely made me feel better and more relaxed.

Straightforward, fresh, and somewhat rebellious, the mindset of the young sorceress is a magnet for new adventures. Her relentless determination in business doesn't contradict her compassion towards the poor or oppressed people, and she doesn't hesitate a minute to embody what shines in her heart.

However Miss Marissa knows very well since childhood that the road for justice is a bumpy one. Eagerness to take risks to defend priorities is the noble feature of the World Defenders, but will she pursue this kind of effort?

Seemingly down-to-earth and appreciating little things in life like tasty food, fresh air and bright scenery, the sorceress nevertheless always acts according to her own aspirations. If something needs to be fixed - she can do it, but can you make her do it?

“I am Marissa Cobalt, sorceress supreme. And I make it my business to put a stop to evil whenever and wherever I come across it. And you, sir, are evil.”

The story's hidden sense is about Justice Supreme and bringing it to the world.

To stop the suffering.

Isn't that what everyone wants, silently?

To stop the suffering for oneself and for everybody, and for people who lost something precious, or are afraid to lose something precious; to bring much-wanted information or the things that can release someone, mentally or physically, isn't it like the one strongest superpower that is so great everyone is too afraid to ask for it?

But Marissa isn't afraid to take the responsibility. This world belongs to doers, and she proves this again and again; indifference brings pain; don't be indifferent to each other. Don't leave each other lonely or in need of help while you can help easily; believe in yourself and you're going to achieve things.

We're taught to strive for 100% success. But Marissa proves that having fun is also vital; her adventures are guaranteed to make you smile or leave you amazed at her flexibility in achieving the goal.

If you want something - go for it.

This is the only way to achieve it, and this is another useful thing to be learned from Marissa. Even in the magic universe, high cognitive abilities and magic abilities don't guarantee winning - unless you try enough. Unless you stand up and fight, and believe in your powers while keeping in mind that you can solve it.

Let's just all wish that at some point in our life we will meet someone like Miss Marissa Cobalt, who will 'think of something' and will drag us out of any trouble we get into!

Recommending this book if you want to increase optimism and lightness of thoughts in your life.

Marissa is a young sorceress supreme who has saved the many people from deadly threats with her courage , bravery and background magic knowledge and she is encouraged by her friend to write down All of the adventures she has had in the past for next generations . So she starts to narrate the stories in the form of 17 missions .

From defeating Diablerio ,an evil Sorceress as she likes to call him who Wants to marry her by force, to chasing after a hidden treasure with the help of the map she bought and thought was of little importance, to defeating interesting monsters throughout the book or saving the world from the God of Evil there is pretty much nth our Sorceress isn't capable of handling and she takes pride in that . To my suprise she is Perfectly capable of keeping her own against more powerful opponents which is sth to really admire about her .

I really loved how each chapter was about a different mission through a continuous journey.

What made me super emotional though was the ending in which she finished the story by explaining she was needed elsewhere yet she promised us readers that she would narrate more of her past adventures later on. Honestly this didn't feel like reading a book ,it felt like Marissa was our beloved grandma sitting near the fireplace and us readers around her like children listening to her awesome stories . And I must thank the author for this amazing experience she gifted me with.

This was enjoyable to read for a number of reasons. The book was separated into "Adventures" - kind of like a short story format, and that was something that I found pleasing. Sometimes, depending on my mood, I might decide to read a book of short stories rather than a novel. I think that's because short stories are entertaining, but light, if that's what I'm in the mood for. I found it quite satisfying to read a few of these adventures at a time.

As a protagonist, I liked Marissa, and found her interesting. She struck me as being very independent for her age, though I did wonder how she came to be alone in the world. That was explained at some point in the book. I found her to be sassy, quirky and amusing. The description of her blue hair was something that helped bring her to life for me - in my mind, I could picture a teenage girl with vivid blue hair.

I think one of my favourite things about this book was that for some reason, it made me feel nostalgic. Nothing about it was complicated, but it was refreshing. It was about a sorceress and it felt magical. It reminded me, in a very nice way, of the sort of book that I might have enjoyed as a schoolgirl, or the sort of book that family members might have chosen to give to me as a gift when I was growing up. It was carefree and light-hearted, so it felt like an escape, even if it didn't take long to read. I think that if I had the opportunity to read more books featuring Marissa, I would probably like to do so.

I haven't read the first book, but I enjoyed this one without trouble as what happens in it precede what happened in the first book.

It's a collection of shorts stories, telling the diverses adventures of Marissa Cobalt, a young and powerfull sorceress, as she goes on diverses adventures. She grows up with the chapters, and fends for herself.

She's not the most likeable character. Marissa has flaws, a very personnal sense of fairness, and a bloodthirsty way to deal with outlaws. But she's strong, brave and it's very interesting to see how she's going to solve the situations she gets in.
She also is facing a lot of creeps, and I'm shared between the fact it's great to meet a character that call them on their shit and the fact they make me uncomfortable, but well, they are creeps. I don't think I ever met that situation that well treated in books before.
There are others kinds of adventures, covering the many ways a mercenary sorceress can find a living in that fantasy world, including some contests that are fun.

Fun. Light. Easy.

Marissa is young and powerful sorceress who is all alone in this world, her only priority is a good meal and bed and for that she will do anything.

This book takes us on a journey of her adventures, they are not inter-related but with every passing adventure we get to know her more. Along with funny sense of humour she is a short-tempered, mischievous girl with a heart of gold.

She has got a bad and dark reputation which she tries to live by proudly, in fact it gives her immense pleasure to be the infamous bandit-trashing, treasure-hunting, mercenary sorceress supreme.

She is ruthless when it comes to punishing the evil or if someone comes between her food. Living with her own rules and laws, young girls can learn a great deal from our courageous sorceress. Her character is well written with some admirable qualities except her temper.

This book is a fun and light read, and I will recommend it to all the young teenage girls.

As someone who has been trying to get out of a reading slump, this book has been really helpful!

Tenacious, talented and cocky main character-Marissa Cobalt or “Riss” is entertaining to follow as they interact with other characters and and get thrown into some heinous predicaments! As Riss reflects on their many travels and adventures in this book, each chapter paces the book as a collection of short stories that contain many elements that are quite relatable.

I enjoyed how many stories were contained in one book, I was a little surprised at the start of the book upon finding out how old Riss was, but found that as the story progressed it made more sense as she grew older.

Ultimately if you are interested in books with powerful, cocky, young female sorceress mc’s then this is something you should add to your tbr!

So I received a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thanks to the author and BookTasters! So here is my honest review.

This is a great story! It's about Marisa's adventure, each chapter tells a great adventure! I haven't read the first book btw, but I still enjoy this book! it's a light and fun story!

I don't have a specific fav character, because all the character has their own unique behavior. even the main character Marisa is not the most likeable character, but she has an interesting way to solve her problem.

I really recommend this book to you who like fantasy stories with a different adventure in each chapter.
This book not really thick, so you can finish it quickly.

Hi! I've received an e-book version of this book.

Firstly, I can say that this book is a fun and light read. I had amazing time while reading this book.

Although I haven't read the first book yet, I still manage to enjoy reading this book. The storyline is easy to understand.

I love how the author takes the reader on a wonderful journey throughout finishing this book. I like the personality of the main character (Marissa) too. She's quite mischievous but she has a good and kind heart. Oh and she also has some other admirable qualities as well.

Above all, this book is very straightforward and I enjoy every second of reading it. Would definitely recommend this book to those who love reading fantasy genre!

It's fantasy in the Freudian sense rather than the literary sense. If you're in the mood for that sort of thing, it's fun. Fourteen-year-old Marissa Cobalt can't do anything about the magic spell that turned her hair bright blue, except change her name to match her hair, but she can do just about everything else that crosses her half-grown mind. And she crosses a lot of bigger, older, meaner people, too, as a sorceress-for-hire. If her super-fists don't make unwanted people leave her clients in peace, her magic fireballs will. Lots of characters die in confrontations with Riss. None of them will ever be missed. She lives in a morally black-and-white world where all baddies are as recognizable, and as easy to squash, as mosquitoes. I laughed. Often.

This is a fantasy genre book. Although it's the second in the series, I didn't have a problem reading.
Main character is a sorcerer who saved many lives using her abilities.
There is a treasure hunt is there. And they are searching for a sea monster also.
Story is full of surprise magic elements but told in a straightforward fashion.

I felt this is good for children. To enchante their imagination.

I was gifted the copy of this book and I went into it completely blind! I honestly really enjoyed getting to read it. It's a collection of random stories featuring the main character. I thought the story was very funny and engaging the whole time. It was very easy to follow and I honestly enjoyed this read. I have not read the first book and I don't feel like it's necessary to read them in order to understand what is happening!

This was a fun read, I wish it was around when I was in middle school and just started to get into reading. I think it would've made me very happy then. I like the style of writing a lot and Marissa's attitude and personality is heartwarming and gave this book a bit of humor, I really enjoyed reading it but again I would've loved it more as a youngster.

Title: The Chronicles of Riss
Author: Jeanne Owens
Series: Adventures of Sorcery
Genre: Fantasy

Plot summary: The Chronicles of Riss by Jeanne Owens is a thrilling fantasy novel that's part of the "Adventures in Sorcery" series. Published in 2015, this book follows the adventures of Marissa, a protagonist with a captivating personality. Confronting evil sorcerers. Fighting monsters. Dueling metal golems. Searching for a sea monster. Hunting lost treasure. Finding a missing show dog. Competing in talent contests. Helping lost children. These are just some of the widely varied exploits that the young mercenary sorceress Marissa "Riss" Cobalt shares in this second Adventures in Sorcery book. Riss reveals how she ended up as a mercenary and chronicles some of the many adventures, ranging from fun to serious, that she had prior to the events of Kismet and Tell (first book of the series).
My Review: I liked the complex personality of the protagonist. Marissa being intelligent and powerful but at the same time infamous for her daring and ruthless behaviour, even the people around her knows her as "the infamous bandit-thrashing treasure hunting mercenary sorceress". The writing style is very interesting, short chapter length helped with the fast pacing of the story and I loved how each chapter deals with a different adventure. Bonus points for the whimsical incidents that happen during each adventure, the humour makes it a pleasant read. My favourite part was the action sequences and magic spells in the book that reminded me of my favourite anime, Fairy Tail. Overall, This is a quick read that combines fantasy, adventure and contemporary fiction.
Recommendation: If you enjoy reading about magic and adventure, give this book a read.

(Possible mild spoilers)

Overall, I very much enjoyed this collection of (mostly) self-contained stories. For fantasy, a genre I dabble in reading but not often, they were smooth, entertaining, reads that didn’t get bogged down in impossible to pronounce names and terminology. The main character, Riss, is charming and resourceful much beyond her years (and she and I both love good food a lot!). The overall tone is light and I actually laughed out loud several times (although I think it’s to note there are a couple of stories that contain more gruesome depictions of violence). However, it was very clear to me that this is not the first in the series. While occasional details about Riss (the main character) and her background were dabbled throughout the stories, some kind of introduction with background about her and especially about the world/times she lives in would have been very helpful in more fully understanding her motivations and actions, especially in terms of why she felt she had to resort to such extreme violence at times (which was really jarring and off-putting among mostly light-hearted fare). Her reactions to her actions appear very detached and nonchalant at times, and I think more background information would help in understanding why that may be, especially given how young she is.

A fantasy-adventure story of young Marissa who’s eager to help the people who are oppressed. This is an adventure of her life as she gathers the courage to hold a hand for those in need. Beating evils, chasing bandits, battling with monsters, and above all a helping hand to its towns’ people. A ruthless girl for the evil yet has a golden heart for the needy.

This is a fun and exciting story of Marissa as she tries to explore the world with so many morals and dignity that she can save numerous people from problems that they are facing. Her knowledge and power pull everything together to slowly build adventures as the chapters go by. This is a light yet meaningful narrative, especially for young adults that we must not stray away from our morals for we can be the light of someone. That no matter how old we are, we may don’t have the magic but we have the power in our ways to be heroines in somebody else’s lives. I love how the story projects the values and character of a real hero. Others may say that she’s evil for killing such people but I do believe that you cannot give light to the darkest moments of the oppressed if you look unto the goodness in their detractors. Or maybe you can, but no one should be blinded.

I recently had the pleasure of immersing myself in the captivating pages of "Chronicles of Riss." This delightful book takes readers on a thrilling and imaginative journey through the fantastical world.

From the very beginning, I was captivated by the rich and vivid storytelling. The author's ability to paint a detailed picture of the world and its characters allowed me to fully immerse myself in the story. I found myself quickly forming a connection with the protagonist, whose bravery and determination made her an endearing and relatable character.

One of the aspects I truly enjoyed about this book was the unique blend of adventure and humor. Marissa's escapades are filled with excitement, danger, and unexpected twists, all accompanied by a touch of lightheartedness. The author's clever use of wit and humor added an extra layer of enjoyment to the narrative, making me laugh out loud on more than one occasion.

At last, I really liked it.

Thanks to the author and BookTasters for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is so easy to read and the main character Marissa, a bright young sorceress, is really down to earth and likeable. As the lead in this story, Marissa proves to be a courageous heroine throughout her adventures and also has fun with them along the way. The story chooses to use each chapter to focus on a different mission, but they all contribute to the story. This way of storytelling keeps the narrative fresh but also easy to follow. The missions, as Marissa calls them, all have some monsters to do battle with and all could be enjoyed as standalone short stories. Overall a highly recommended read.

This book is a light read. Nothing too intense to evoke strong emotions. That being said, it's good enough to help pass the time and is a calm way to introduce fantasy as a genre to readers.

The book follows the story of Marissa Cobalt, a young but renowned sorceress — thanks to her distinct cobalt-blue hair, quick temper, and adeptness with magic. Marissa isn't exactly on a journey, but she is constantly on the move as her services as a sorceress are in high demand, and more often than not, she follows the money. Of course, it's not always about the money, and her escapades do make the book a worthwhile read.

From the start, we see a quirky character in Marissa Cobalt. A young sorceress with a strong determination and business orientation. The chapters are light, hilarious at times, but some of the dialogues were a bit cringey. This is understandable since the MC is still very young. This may be an easy read, but its narrative teaches us that competence, capability, and being inherently good doesn’t always guarantee a win against evil. But being able to stand up for truth and continuously fighting for your principles does.

This book is great for starters. I love the fact it’s a chronological of short stories. So it’s a easy read. Also I love the characters starting with Ms. Marisa. She’s a fifteen year witch with blue hair, who tough no nonsense person out to defend the town she comes across. All in all, it’s a great book to read. I gave this book a five out of five. Thank you for letting me read it.

The adventurous stories of Marissa are extiting and interesting. Marissa's courage to fight against the evil, the wisdom to solve all kinds of problems, the 'bad temper' towards the bandits, the kindness for the poor women and children are very impressive. I'll be waiting for the next book about more stories about her.

It was captivating albeit a bit juvenile. I liked reading about Riss and her adventures. I also liked her warped sense of justice and how she came through for the underdogs. And the fact that she would only take what she thought was worth it for the job she had done was a very impressive trait. All in all it was a good read.

I didn't grasp it at first. I'm not really an adventure book type of person but I'd say this is suitable for teens and adults. I do not have a favorite character but the protagonist stood out for me with her hair colour and zeal to help others.

It's something you can read at a go.

I had a chuckle reading this as my hair is currently blue and the protagonist has blue hair. Every chapter is a little short story or adventure the character has. I'm not entirely sure about the age target for this as it reads a bit young, but can also be a bit graphic/adult or "bad role model ish" for young girls. Overall an OK read.
