Eight-year-old Joey Gibson is looking for a new friend. There are no kids to play with in his new neighborhood. Dad's new job keeps him busy, and Mom is preoccupied with Joey's baby sister. So Joey spends most of his time alone, in a world of imagination--a world of knights and spaceships and monsters.So when strange voices start coming up into his bedroom from under the house, Joey begins to wonder where imagination ends and reality begins.Everything seems okay when Joey meets the source of the voice, another young boy named Tyler. Tyler says he's lonely too, and wants to be Joey's friend.For a while, Joey is thrilled to have a new friend. Joey and Tyler have lots of fun together, even if they must meet to play late at night after Joey's parents are in bed causing Joey to sneak out.But then Tyler starts asking Joey to do little pranks, and to give him things to prove his friendship. Joey does it. He doesn't want to lose his new friend.One night Tyler wants more than for Joey to share a toy. He demands something more--something Joey dare not give.Joey finds himself no longer in his imaginary world, but in a real world of terror and a dark choice he must make.
