Welcome to Tigertail Beach where the cocktails are cold, the secrets are hot, and the bodies are piling up.
Fifteen years ago, a life was taken in secret.
Now, someone wants revenge.
McCullough McMaster lives a charmed life behind the gates of Tigertail Beach Estates—designer clothes, a picture-perfect marriage, and martinis with the other elite wives. But behind every perfect view is a secret worth killing for. When her best friend Whitney is presumed dead after a yacht explosion, McCullough becomes convinced it wasn’t an accident… and that Whitney’s husband, the charming Phillip Ramsey-Winthrop, is hiding the truth.
But nothing in Tigertail is what it seems.
When McCullough finds herself being stalked, blackmailed, and haunted by mementos from the night of the debutante ball—the night when everything changed—she must unravel the tangled web of secrets that bind her to Whitney, to Phillip, and to a deadly mistake buried for over a decade.
As buried truths resurface and alliances shift, McCullough realizes that no one is innocent. Not even her. And that the price of paradise is paid in blood.
Rich with dark glamour, wicked twists, and a chilling question at its core—how far would you go for the one person who once saved your life?

3.5 ⭐️ rounded down. First and foremost, thank you Adriane Leigh for allowing me to be an ARC reader for you again.
This got a higher rating from me than I originally thought it was going to.
My main pet peeve is how damn repetitive some of the phrases were. It’s one of the fastest ways to destroy a book for me. Do not use the same phrase 40+ times in a book. And no, I’m not exaggerating. I counted.
I think too many things happened off page, in my opinion, that left me feeling really frustrated with the main character. For example, she would go on and on about how she didn’t trust the police but there was never any talk about why. Or how she REFUSED to grieve but thought she could solve a whole murder investigation by herself.
I think things were tied up nicely in the end but I’m still pretty annoyed with the whole thing. The premise had so much promise and I feel really let down, which is a bummer.
THE LAST DEBUTANTE is the first instalment in Adriane Leigh’s contemporary, adult THE BLACK WIDOWS psychological thriller focusing on the rich and famous of Tigertail Beach.
Told from first person perspective (McCullough), journal entries (Whitney), and memories from the past THE LAST DEBUTANTE follows in the wake of the disappearance and possible murder of McCullough McMaster’s best friend Whitney Winthrop. Both raised in affluent society, Whitney and McCullough became best friends in college but in recent weeks, Whitney is worried, believing her real estate magnate husband Phillip is keeping secrets, secrets that may lead to Whitney’s death. To ensure someone will be witness, Whitney gives McCullough her personal journals for safe keeping, journals that go back to their earlier years. After the disappearance of Whitney, McCullough begins a deep dive into the writings and ramblings of her best friend that will reveal a history of dark and dangerous privileged information, information that places a target on our heroine’s back, revealing more of the memories of a night, fifteen years earlier.
The world building is complex, detailed and suspenseful. McCullough has been targeted; she has a stalker that knows too much, knows about the secrets she and Whitney have been hiding but as McCullough continues to search for answers, her own past refuses to let go, as Phillip’s indifference quickly turns to unmitigated greed and anger.
The secondary and supporting characters are questionable, dynamic and destructive. We are introduced to McCullough McMaster’s husband Bennett, Whitney Winthrop and her husband Phillip, as well as Phillip’s executive assistant Chrissy, and McCullough’s brother Maverick.
THE LAST DEBUTANTE is a thought provoking, psychological thriller; a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, m*rder and greed, friendships and relationships. The character driven premise is dark, intense and intriguing; the characters are ill-fated, determined, dangerous and destructive.
At the heart of this thrilling story is the power of female friendship. As well as, love, lies, twists and turns that will leave you shocked and awed. Nothing is ever as perfect and flawless as it seems.
15 years ago, two young women attended the debutante ball. It was an unforgettable night, but not in the way they had hoped, and a deadly secret forever ties them together.
Now, McCullough McMaster lives the life of glamour and prestige in Tigertail and her life is perfect. McCullough lives next door to her best friend, Whitney. One day Whitney and her husband Phillip go out on their yacht and it explodes. Whitney is presumed dead and Phillip is unscathed from the explosion.
McCullough believes Phillip is behind the death of her best friend. She is determined to unravel the tangled web of secrets and lies to make him pay. But McCullough’s past at the debutante ball is coming back to haunt her.
This story hooked me from the very beginning! I became completely invested in finding out what happened to Whitney right alongside McCullough. The obsession and desperation to avenge her friend, no matter the consequences, was unhinged. It also showed the loyalty of true female friendships and how our friends are truly family.
The secrets and lies in a town that appears to be flawless was salacious and sinister. Just when I thought I had things figured out, another twist would come out of nowhere and leave me speechless. There were even some pages I had to reread because my mind was blown. A-MAZ-ING storytelling!
This is my favorite Adriane Leigh thriller to date! I felt connected to McCoullough and her whole story and I loved every word on every page. I couldn’t wait to see what unfolded in her world of luxury, lies, love and loyalty.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Last Debutante was thrilling from the start and kept me intrigued all the way through. The author did an amazing job describing things, sometimes she described them too well and I found myself looking forward to the next few paragraphs to see what happened next and having to go back to reread to make sure I didn't miss anything important. That all being said, the ending didn't make a ton of sense to me. I get how it pieced together but I felt it was so out of realm of the book I had a hard time believing it. I did appreciate the ending was more than just a few pages and actually took the last few chapters to explain. I love a good suspense book with a twist but I just felt there were such random twists, there were many, it was almost unbelievable.
All in all Adriene Leigh is an amazing writer and I will definitely be checking out more of her books. The ending on this one wasn't my favorite but the book was written with so much detail and it literally kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
The Last Debutante follows McCullough (Mac) McMaster as she obsessively works to determine who murdered her best friend Whitney. The alleged accidental explosion of her boat does not sit right with Mac, and as she reads through Whitney’s journals that were left to her in a rush the day before the accident, she starts to wonder how well she really knows anyone around her. Who can she trust and who has ulterior motives? An accident that was kept between best friends for over a decade isn’t as secret as she thought, and Mac may not be as safe as she believed she was in her life of luxury.
This book shows the power of female friendship, following your intuition, and understanding that there is always more hiding under the surface. We never really know anyone quite as well as we think.
There was a lot of repetition in this book, but it worked with the storyline. McCullough becomes obsessive in her quest for the truth, and her thoughts go anywhere and everywhere in the process. You really feel this alongside Mac throughout the story. The book kept me guessing and the twists and turns were everywhere. Overall, this was a good, twisty psychological thriller.
The Last Debutante is a suspenseful, intriguing story that keeps you guessing from beginning to end. With its many twists and turns, it is often difficult to know what is real and what is not.
McCullough discovers that her life is far from perfect when she realizes someone knows her secret. As mysterious messages and clues begin to appear, along with her best friend’s journals, she is forced to piece together the truth. Little by little, everything starts coming to the surface, leaving her unsure of what to believe or how to handle what she uncovers.
At its core, this novel explores how wealth and privilege can conceal secrets and lies. The characters have strong personalities, and the suspense is one of the story’s greatest strengths. I found myself constantly wondering who would come out on top by the end of this harrowing journey.
Omg this is book one in a new series? Omg! So excited! Eeek! Can’t wait to read the book two now – as soon as it’s there, I will be ready to read it! Adriane does what she does best – she creates book characters that are not what they seem to be, and she does it so skillfully. She conjures up a setup that is not what it seems to be. And… yeah, nothing good happens there. Love. Lies. Everything fancy. Friendships. Women. Loved it!
Interesting and fast paced story, but I found it somewhat lacking in that I wanted to be more invested in the characters. I absolutely love this author and I missed the unhingedness that you see in The Influencer series.
this one was just ok for me...for whatever reason it just didn't hold my attention. I thought the plot was lacking in depth. The plot twist at the very end almost made up for it, but it was just "meh"
