A deadly blaze. A desperate girl. Three days to crack the case.
Everyone knows the story. Jamie George was the golden child. Her sister, Morgan, was nothing but trouble. When their house mysteriously burned down, Jamie barely survived. Morgan wasn’t so lucky.
Three years later, teen podcaster Zoe Gale receives an urgent message. Jamie needs help. She’s received a threat written in blood and a demand for cash. Instead of paying up, Jamie wants Zoe to unmask the blackmailer.
Zoe’s tangled with dangerous people before. And there’s something about Jamie she just doesn’t trust. But soon she’s digging up secrets someone would kill to keep buried ...
Jack Heath wrote his debut novel, The Lab, in secondary school and sent it to a publisher at age seventeen. He's now the award-winning author of forty novels for adults and children, including the international bestsellers Hangman, The Wife Swap and 300 Minutes of Danger. His books have been translated into ten languages, optioned for TV and adapted for film. He lives on Ngunnawal/Ngambri country in Canberra, Australia, with his wife, their children, several chickens, a few fish and a possum named Oreo.
This book was just as good as the first. I loved the plot and how the story played out and I couldn’t guess what was coming next. Would recommend this series.
I throughly enjoyed “if you tell anyone you’re next” so the minute this book landed in my local bookstore I had to grab it. And Heath did not disappoint!
I devoured this book in a day. I’m so thrilled Heath decided to continue with a recurring character (Zoe Gale) and it was a treat to get to see Christian and Zoe again. (FYI it is not necessary to read “if you tell anyone you’re next” but I would recommend it).
Zoe Gale is as unhinged as she always is and I live for her sarcastic responses. The mystery was incredibly suspenseful and just when I thought Heath had finished with all the mind blowing twists my brain was rewired with that final little surprise with who was behind the tracker. So sneaky :)
It was great to see interactions with Zoe and her Dad and to hear his words of wisdom this time and I was not prepared for the tear jerker at the end.
My only minor flaw is that provided I read the blurb before I read the book I wish the Prologue was a bit more vague 😉
Jack Heath and Holly Jackson are my top picks for YA Thriller and I look forward to future books Heath wishes to release. 📚
Zoe Gale is a stubbornly determined teenage girl with a flair for journalism and seeking the truth amongst lies. First, in the disappearance of a friend (shown in ‘if you tell anyone, you’re next’) and now as a favour for her brother who begs her for help with a friend who’s life is filled with reminders of the tragedy that started it all. I love how she keeps key aspects throughout these books (that I believe should be presented as a series) but still changes as she grows older. Jack Heath is an incredible writer that knows how to keep audiences engaged in thrilling twists and turns.
I definitely recommend to those who enjoy a mystery/thriller story with a strong female lead that isn’t completely surrounded with perfection and isn’t afraid to show her real self - flaws and all - and to reveal where lies are hidden within the truth.
I loved this new book from Jack Heath and devoured it in one day.
Full of danger, plot twists, interesting characters, and non-stop action, this is a book that will appeal to reluctant readers and reading enthusiasts alike.
Zoe and her best friend Niamh are dynamic duo when it comes to solving mysteries, and I can't wait to read more of their adventures in the future (hint hint)
Another page-turner of a Young Adult thriller from a true master of the genre.
Thanks to Scholastic Australia for the review copy of this book
I enjoyed this one it was fast paced and easy to read! I liked the mystery although it was pretty predictable but still an entertaining YA read. I definitely want to check out the authors other books!
If you love YA thrillers that will have you hooked you should add this to your tbrs!

After recently enjoying my first Jack Heath novel, I was keen to pick up his latest and it definitely delivered a solid mystery.
I didn’t realise when reserving at the library that this new book was very much young adult thriller territory, which I do enjoy… even if I always have a few moments where the teenage dialogue or drama makes me cringe slightly 😅
But Jack Heath really knows how to keep a story moving. The pacing was quick, the tension built well and there was enough mystery and suspicion woven through the story to keep me hooked and wanting answers.
The plot centered around secrets, lies and the danger of things buried beneath the surface eventually coming undone (classic YA thriller fun) with plenty of twists and escalating stakes.
This was a fun time and I’m still left as a keen bean ready to jump into Jack’s book back catalogue!
It was decent, I sound like I hate it but I don't. I didn't particularly like the ending though. There are better thriller/mystery YA novels out there.
