Pact is the second book in the Halo Hearts series by Moira Darling. Pop stars, adoring fans, demons—just another concert night on their world tour for Midnight Halo. Think K-pop Demon Hunters but make it sapphic.
Ice-queen cold and controlled, Camille struggles to contain loose-cannon Jules as she manages public perception and aims to keep Jules from being possessed by demons called Mouthpieces.
This installment was every bit as exciting, action-packed, and suspenseful as the first, and just as full of sapphic yearning. I loved every minute of it.
Moira Darling serves up another hit featuring fantastic world-building, a complex magic system, layered characters, an overarching supernatural mystery, and a fun grumpy/sunshine romance.
I adore Jules's personality. Her flirty, snarky exterior is balanced with her squishy insides and arena-commanding presence. I laughed out loud several times. Camille's overwhelming need for control and quantification of emotional output is both useful and necessary to maintain safety from irrational and inconvenient feelings, as well as to protect Midnight Halo's true purpose from being discovered. She functions at maximum efficiency until Jules threatens to dismantle her carefully constructed world.
I liked the descriptive and punchy writing style that maintained a fast pace and a sense of urgency. I also appreciated the distinct character voices. It was easy to get a sense of each personality. There were some repetitive words and phrases, but I was too absorbed in the story to care.
I have a hard time classifying this book because, in my opinion, it falls into several genres. It could be called dramedy, sci-fi, fantasy, and romance. The romance was well balanced with the sci-fi elements, making for a very engaging plot from start to finish. The final battle was a worthy climax, and I was very satisfied that the ending wasn’t a cliffhanger and instead smoothly set up the next book. I am a fan of this series, and I look forward to more.

Highly recommended - cannot be read as a standalone!
Love the banter, just wish there was a tuch more romance but for how the plot is built is more than ok.

This is the Second Book on the Halo Hearts Series, and even though it is a trilogy, it can be easily read as a standalone.
Personally, having not read the first book, I did not find any particular issues in keeping up with the story.
If you enjoy fantasy and are looking for a light read that is entertaining and funny, this may be it.
Adding to that, you will also have great tropes such as Fake Marriage, Forced Proximity, Opposites Attract, Only One Bed and Touch Her and Die Vibes.
The writing was truly light and funny, which alongside a well-paced story, made this read a very easy one!
Overall, I enjoyed the characters, both the main couple, as well as the remaining girls in the group – I think they were all so different and each offered a different insight.
I wish we could have seen some more character development on some of them though, but I understand the story was very focused on both Jules and Camille and perhaps each book on the series will allow us to focus a bit better on different sets of characters.
The plot itself was interesting enough to keep you wanting to read the next chapter and see what was going to happen next. From the start there are questions you want to see answered and the way the author was able to keep things interesting, keeping you engaged without pushing the frustration too much was great. And while a few things felt a bit too convenient or predictable at sometimes, I still feel it worked out nicely.
The whole concept of the magical bond around the story was so interesting and possibly what drawn me most to this book. I quite enjoyed the idea of a deeper connection being possible, in a methodical/consented way, that would work with the same potential intensity of a fated bond, but only… logical. I truly enjoyed how this was explored and how we got to see such bond adapt and evolve, as both characters explored it.
Despite that, I was left feeling that there was enormous additional potential to the story, that I wish was explored further, and instead it seemed a bit rushed towards the end.
However, there was a lot that I did enjoy about them, a lot of sweet and romantic moments, with attention to detail, that surpassed the bond itself – and that was key for me.
Being a standalone book, I was expecting (and preferring) that no loose ends would be left hanging, but the truth is, the love story was wrapped up, while the main plot will stretch to the next book - so keep that in mind.
Nevertheless, I am looking forward to check out Book 3, when it releases next year and this got me curious enough to go check Book 1, as well.
Final note: I adored Camille. I know she is not the easy, warm one to like, but she just made sense to me.

“Pact: A Sapphic Pop Star Romantasy” is the second book in the “Halo Hearts” series. You can read it without having read the first book, but the best experience is guaranteed if you read them in the correct order. This is a remarkable project by Moira, I am fascinated by her talent for using lyrical prose, to draw with words three-dimensional characters that peek out from the pages so realistically that it seems like you are watching a movie, not reading a book. “Halo Hearts” is a series about the invisible - good and evil, demons against demon slayers, precious feelings, overcoming betrayals and interests. The business of the pop industry is a screen for a more magical mission aimed at saving the world from darkness and its bodiless servants.
Jules is part of the pop band Midnight Halo, she is an element, a wild fire, an unstoppable storm, rebellious, naughty, but also caring, loving and the soul of the company. If she has a flaw, it’s that she uses humor as a shield, doesn’t follow a script, and doesn’t easily get deeply involved emotionally. But once you’ve earned her trust, she’ll be there for you no matter what.
Camille is a professional human-disaster manager, an undercover control freak, a PR crisis manager of the highest order. For her, order is a value, technique is logical, and managing public reaction is her calling. For Camille, rules are as necessary as air and water, which is precisely why she’s sent to rein in Jules after media leak from the previous concert in Harbour's Edge.

I loved Camille and Jules, their couple is so complicated, impossible if you look from the outside... but turns out they are eachother's Kryptonite. Camille is so complex, I am sure it was hard to write her, not only because of her technical dictionary, but because she is reserved, strong ice-queen type that hides a soft core under layers of shields and procedures.
And Jules she's determined to install some chaos in Camille's order no matter how hard it is just for fun, while the world is once again threatened by the invisible danger.
Amazing world building, great writing, beautiful characters, delicious banters and spice on top of dangerously hooking plot - that's what you get when you choose the 'Halo hearts' series and Moira as a guide. And because I've read all of her works - this is what you get whenever you choose Moira Darling.

I love everything Moira writes. The K-Pop-themed series is a little outside my usual reading and this book definitely gave my brain a workout. 😂 There is a LOT happening with the supernatural elements and politics. Fantasy and my brain don't always speak the same language.
Did this stop me from loving Camille and Jules? Absolutely not. I may not have understood every detail of the world, but I understood their chemistry. Their connection was so much fun to watch unfold and I was absolutely here for their love story.
💭 CHARACTER THOUGHTS
Jules is SO much fun. I loved her snark. HER FLIRT GAME WAS AN A+. Beneath all that sass, she cares so deeply for her people and I loved seeing that softer side of her.
Camille is her complete opposite, and I adored her. Her brain works in the most intense way and there were definitely moments when she left me completely scrambled. She is basically a brilliant ice-princess.. Every time I read "Spreadsheet Barbie" I couldn't help but laugh out loud.
These two could not be more different, but somehow they fit together perfectly. Opposites-attract in romance heaven!

Honestly, no notes. This was a great story that perfectly sets up what's coming next, and I'm already excited to dive in.

WHAT I LIKED:
I loved the romance between Jules and Camille. Their banter, how they went from disliking one another to being unable to be apart for one second, and the way Jules was flirting so damn hard with Camille, was so fun to experience.
I adored the friendship between the Midnight Halo Girls, and how in between hunting demons and writing lyrics, they also make time to just be in each other’s company.
I loved how well the romance, friendship, and conflict were all interwoven together. It never felt like one element took over the other, and it never felt like one was more important than the other.
I found myself invested in not just the main couple, but the rest of the Midnight Halo girls as well. Kaia, Remy, Mina, and even Blaire made me so happy to see whenever they were on page. Every single person in Jules’ life plays an important role that makes the whole group dynamic work together so well.
Because I loved the first book in the series so much, I was a little sad there wasn’t much of Kaia and Evie in the story. However, I do love how every time Kaia is on page, she is always texting Evie.
Blaire is one of my favorite minor characters. She’s so protective of the women under her care, and not just in her words but actions as well. She radiates mama bear energy so much.
The spice scenes were super hot and way hungrier than I expected, which is always a plus.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
There was nothing I disliked about this story. It was perfect from the first page to the last.
The only thing I’m sad about is that Book 3 is the final book. Will it focus on Remy? Mina? What about Blaire? Blaire needs a woman in her life too!

I loved the romance between Jules and Camille. Their banter, how they went from disliking one another to being unable to be apart for one second, and the way Jules was flirting so damn hard with Camille, was so fun to experience.
I adored the friendship between the Midnight Halo Girls, and how in between hunting demons and writing lyrics, they also make time to just be in each other’s company.
I loved how well the romance, friendship, and conflict were all interwoven together. It never felt like one element took over the other, and it never felt like one was more important than the other.
I found myself invested in not just the main couple, but the rest of the Midnight Halo girls as well. Kaia, Remy, Mina, and even Blaire made me so happy to see whenever they were on page. Every single person in Jules’ life plays an important role that makes the whole group dynamic work together so well.
Because I loved the first book in the series so much, I was a little sad there wasn’t much of Kaia and Evie in the story. However, I do love how every time Kaia is on page, she is always texting Evie.
Blaire is one of my favorite minor characters. She’s so protective of the women under her care, and not just in her words but actions as well. She radiates mama bear energy so much.
The spice scenes were super hot and way hungrier than I expected, which is always a plus.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
There was nothing I disliked about this story. It was perfect from the first page to the last.
The only thing I’m sad about is that Book 3 is the final book. Will it focus on Remy? Mina? What about Blaire? Blaire needs a woman in her life too!

This book was so damn good.
While I really enjoyed the romance, Pact felt much more plot driven overall, and honestly, I loved that. There is so much happening beneath the surface of this world, and the more the story unfolded, the more desperate I became to understand all the secrets, magic and politics surrounding Eon and the Council.
Jules and Camille were such a fun pairing. Jules flirts with Camille with shameless confidence, and I absolutely ate up their dynamic. The romance is there, with two open door scenes that fit the story well, but the bigger focus is definitely on the world, the mystery, and all the magical layers still waiting to be uncovered.
The friendships in this book were honestly one of my favourite parts. Kaia and Eve were adorable, Remy brought such domineering energy, and Blaire’s protectiveness had my whole heart. This might be one of my favourite depictions of friendship and found family in a paranormal romance. The support, the loyalty, the teasing, the protectiveness, it all felt so alive.
Without getting into spoilers, this book left me with so many questions in the best way. Who can actually be trusted? What really happened to those who came before Midnight Halo? How long is the Patron going to stand back and simply watch? There are so many threads still waiting to be pulled, and I am very much invested.
Also, the number of scenes I highlighted for a future reread? I already know I’ll be rereading this one while impatiently waiting for book three.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it picks up shortly after the last one. The disaster that was the harbor concert and it's fallout for the band. The girls are determined to move forward. Eon is pushing for them to get back on the road and control the narrative, no demons to see here 😉.

Jules is so freaking real. On the one hand she’s the silly, can’t-take-anything-seriously, dramatic girl and on the other she’s the woman who feels way too deeply and is scared to switch off the dramatics because then everything becomes way too real. I just really loved her.
Camille on the other hand is totally in control. At all times. In all things. Until Jules comes along and throws her straight into chaos lol. I love a strong, in-control woman and this one was no different. Tbh, I really struggled to choose my favorite between them.
Who would have thought a loose cannon and Spreadsheet Barbie would work so freaking well? 😂 And “nobody touches my wife”? Swoon. Every time. Then there’s “you are mine.” Yep. Hot af.
I love a fake dating, forced proximity romance as much as the next person, but the supernatural aspects of this story totally elevated it for me. The demons and everything surrounding them are such a big part of the actual story, and I really enjoyed how that element was woven into the romance. It gave the book so much more to sink my teeth into than just the relationship between Jules and Camille.
I cannot wait for the rest of this series! I don’t know what I’m looking forward to more: the love stories or finding out what the hell happens with the demons. 😂

I began devouring this book so quickly it made my heart speed up. If I hadn’t gone on a vacation for four days in the middle of reading this, I could’ve finished it in 2-3 days.
For me, this was a step up from Halo. I loved the softness and set up of the first book. The world building continues to keep me entertained and intrigued. The lore being built up through the series is PERFECT. Revealing enough to keep people engaged, while not giving too much away to want to come back.
I continue to love new characters as they’re introduced. Camille is a perfect ice queen. Jules was one of my favorites in Halo, so I’m so so happy to get her POV in Pact.
Ice Queen versus chronic flirt is, apparently, one of my new favorite tropes. Their romance could’ve been built a little bit more (more alone or intimacy scenes that tugged them closer), but I’m happy it wasn’t insta-love.
Darling also has a tendency to have some repetitive language, but it was less in this book than usual so that’s a big improvement for my enjoyment factor.
I’d like to read Chapter 17 over again also.. <3.
Pact even made it into my elusive “Favorites” folder.

Wow… just WOW… I loved Moira Darling’s first Midnight Halo offering, “Halo.” Her second book in the Halo Hearts series is even better! “Pact” finds the band preparing for a world tour and looking for ways to prevent a replay of the Harbor Lights Festival. Jules is the focus of this book. If you read “Halo” you know she’s a wild card, a provocateur, and funny as all get out. She’s in fine fettle in “Pact.” She also acquires the perfect foil for her hijinks, Camille, who has been tasked with preventing demons from disturbing the upcoming tour. The paranormal aspect has expanded and become more complex and intricate. There are surprises around every corner. It turns out that demonic entities can escalate and learn also. Bandmates Kaia, Remy, and Mina are rock solid as always. Midnight Halo, Camille, and manager Blaire meet the challenges head-on. They also problem solve on the fly with one underlying principle as voiced by Kaia: “Together.” I really liked that aspect. There’s some romance going on to feed our sapphic imaginations. Overall, I loved this book. It’s even better than the first one.

I read the first book of the series on a friend’s recommendation and picked it up and didn’t put it back down until I finished it. Literally. It took about 16 hours and an all-nighter. This book was even better. It took me longer to finish only because I kept making myself stop because I didn’t want it to end so soon. The third book hasn’t come out yet and I have absolutely no doubt it will be just as fantastic. I usually don’t read modern fantasy novels like this with magical aspects in the modern, real world, but I am so glad I gave Halo a chance because I genuinely fell in love with these characters.
Pact is less focused on romance in my opinion, but it is still wholly about love and how all kinds of it are what saves people, whether it be romantic, platonic, or familial. I love that theme. I absolutely adore it. Moira Darling did a wonderful job of portraying that, but also of showing that even a MC with a love interest can have fully fleshed out and meaningful relationships with other characters.
5/5. I would’ve given it 6/5 if I could have. I can’t wait for Requiem.

I had a lot of fun with this one. Fortunate to receive an ARC for this book, however summer is getting the best of me and so excuse the lateness considering this book is OUT NOW. Go grab it.
Pact is Jules’ story and I love her so much. Camille seemed to be the perfect personality for our pop Queen who doesn’t seem to know when to stop pushing. You can play your games with any and everyone else Ms. Navarro, you can’t however play with Cami, she sees you and we do too ♥️

While you can read this without reading Halo, I don’t recommend it. The romantic couples may change but the main theme is woven throughout. The world building continues to intrigue and entertain.
I adored Kaia and Evie’s book and this time it’s Jules and Camille. Jules is the snarky loose cannon where Camille is the cold and controlled.
We get a lovely arranged marriage, forced proximity, slow burn and more to peak and keep your interest throughout the story (some of my fave tropes!). I loved their regular narration banter, the burn, the magic and the complexity.
I am a huge fan of this author and can’t wait for the next book! Highly recommend!!

OMG, these girls! If Midnight Halo were a real band I would totally be buying VIP seats, regardless of the risk of demons haha. I love them so much!! Each one has a place in my heart, but Jules…amazing, hilarious, thoughtful Jules has had me wrapped around her finger since book 1 Halo. She is absolutely my dream girl. Funny, confident, a little chaotic, and impossible not to love. If I have to share her with anyone, though… I’ll allow Camille. I am such a sucker for an ice queen, and watching Jules slowly chip away at all those walls made for such a fun read. And I’m really enjoying the overarching plot in these stories! There’s still so much to play out, but I appreciate that each book has a resolved HEA for the couple it centers around. I’m also super excited to see where the next book goes based on the character introduced in this one. Something tells me things are about to get VERY interesting!

I personally liked book one more. The writing style of this book read more like instant messaging. The sentence structure was super short and there was a catch phrase that was used a lot to my dismay.
The romance was super cute between Julie’s and Camille. Jules was super outgoing and Camille was color coded notes and timelines.
There were two spicy scenes an and lots of demon fighting action. Love how the girls work together and their care for eachother. This book really shows their strong bond.
I was hoping to see more of Evie and Kaia together but it wasn’t so.
Like all of Moira’s books I did enjoy the journey and look forward to book three.

This book focused more on the 'demon' side of events, and what is really going on behind the scenes. It's darker, but not in the traditional sense, more along the line of 'whatever is going on here is not good'. The writing style is snappier, with shorter and more to the point sentences, which gave it a bit of a different feel, along with the technical/magic jargon that was thrown into the mix. Jules and Camille were an interesting pair, very much opposites, and yet also perfect for each other. I adored the latter banter between the two, and loved their bond! Such a wonderful thing to have.
I very much enjoyed the story, what it revealed, and and keenly awaiting the final installment.

Loved it
I enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one was even better! The author does an amazing job of giving both Jules and Camille completely unique voices. And even though they're complete opposites of each other, their chemistry is off the charts. Can't wait for book 3!

Paranormal enemies to lovers...
Love the storyline and the build up between the two MCs. Do slightly wish there was more involvement with both the MCs from Pact but extremely enjoyable with a lot more anticipation. Leaves you waiting for the next one! Can't wait!

This book is even better than the first. I wish this series was more than a trilogy, it's that good. I loved all the banter between the girls. Can't wait for the last one!
