Pisces was beautiful, chaotic, atmospheric and intense.

I think a lot of us have had an experience in love like the one Ollie and Marcus had, something that makes you question who you're supposed to be. Wanting to be somewhere you can be someone else, something different, something more. I think we all crave that sometimes... something that makes your ordinary life feel like something extraordinary.

There was very little talking between Ollie and Marcus, their relationship was on a visceral level. The moments between them were electrifying and otherworldly. I felt every moment.
I loved the moment Ollie realized that Marcus was not meant to stay, their experience was meant to help shape what's possible...
"Not everything that opens you is meant to stay. Some things come to show you what's possible-then leave you to build the rest yourself."

These books are like reading poetry that speaks directly to your soul. You can feel the story in your bones. You connect on a deep level with the experiences of the characters.

This book is beautifully poetic.
Pisces resonated deep in my soul and reconnected with personal feelings about life experiences that I had buried long ago.
The details in so many of the scenes truly make them an immersive experience. I love when an author is able to put me into the middle of it all; seeing, hearing, feeling every little piece of the story.
I find it incredibly difficult to write meaningful reviews, no matter how much I enjoy a book, but I hope people give this one a fair chance.
It does end with a HFN, but it's conducive with what you're meant to come away with at the end of the book.

Luke J Vale has captured my attention. His writing is new and fresh. It's truly poetry. That may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I'm definitely here for it & looking forward to more from The Zodiac Series.

🌊 Pisces by Luke J. Vale 🌊

“Not everything that opens you is meant to stay. Some things come to show you what’s possible — then leave you to build the rest yourself.”

wow oh wow. i wish i could put into words exactly how this story made me feel, and i will try, but i still don’t think it will do justice.

originally i was intrigued by this book because of the Zodiac inspired title (this is apart of a series by the way - im waiting for Gemini 😏), but it was not at all what i expected, in a good way. the way the author writes is so poetic, it really brings you TO the scene, INTO the world. a lot of this story takes place at a festival, and i had to stop reading a few times just so i could sit back and imagine being there. if you know me, you know that music is one of the most important things in my life, so the small details describing the festivals really made me happy.

the story follows Ollie, a man who typically looks towards the future, and Marcus, a man who stays in the present. they first see each other at a festival on a mountain, and while their meeting is simple, it’s also breathtaking. it’s like, ‘here you are.. i know i don’t know you, but this feels right’. the way they interact reminds me of collective effervescence, the feeling you get at concerts when you feel connected to the audience. nobody’s a stranger. everything is just apart of each other. i loved it. the story, in my opinion, is also more about *feeling* rather than focusing on an actual big plot, which i enjoyed. sometimes you just need to *feel*

now, this isn’t a typical love story. there is no ‘happily ever after’, but it’s not a tragedy either. the two MCs live in different places, and they don’t interact a lot outside of the places they meet up in. they just.. are, and it’s not a big, sad goodbye whenever they have to depart. they know that life will bring them together again eventually. or, as said in the book, “two lives occasionally crossing on the same map” 🗺️

some tidbits:
🌊 3rd person pov
🌊 immersive writing
🌊 short story, very short chapters (which i loved)
🌊 no on page spice
🌊 author debut

Oh, it was great.
Quotes I loved

“One last time,” Marcus said quietly, close to his ear. “Do you want to go back to the mountain?” It didn’t feel like nostalgia now.
It felt like an offering.“
Because the night before had felt like belonging. And the morning felt like erasure.

“ Laura sighed, some of the edge leaving her. “I’m not mad because you had fun,” she said. “I’m mad because you forgot who you are when you’re trying to keep up with someone else’s world.”

“That version of you felt like love,” she added. “Because your system was relaxed enough to feel anything deeply.”

The book was very relatable. I’m sure most of us have felt that type of love at some point in our lives. . It was also hard to put down—i spent my breaks and the evening finishing it!
