Can missing a fatal flight be the wake up call Harrison needs?
When Harrison Kelley is banned from getting on Flight HA1710, it seems to be the perfect ending to a crappy couple of days. Not only did he wreck a wedding, but he’s drunk way too much and been on the receiving end of the groom’s brother’s fists. Being escorted out of the airport by security was just the icing on the wedding cake.
Elijah Pettifer has lusted after Harrison from afar for years but Harrison never sees him as anything more than a friend. If he ever saw him at all. While attempting to defend what little honor Harrison has left, Elijah gets caught up in the wave of chaos surrounding his teenage crush. But missing his flight home because of Harrison’s mess might just be the luckiest thing to ever happen to him.
With a 24 hour ban imposed by the airport, and having only each other for company, the two men grow closer. But will the fate of the airplane they should have been on be the push Harrison needs to walk away from the toxic relationship of his past? And can Elijah make Harrison see exactly what he’s been missing out on because of it?
Meredith Russell lives in the heart of England. An avid fan of many story genres, she enjoys nothing less than a happy ending. She believes in heroes and romance and strives to reflect this in her writing. Sharing her imagination and passion for stories and characters is a dream Meredith is excited to turn into reality.
3.75 Harrison has had a massively unhealthy relationship with Antony, who is getting married the next day. Why Harrison would put himself through being there for the wedding is a mystery. For his part, Antony is toxic, a cheater and a liar. When things come to a head at the wedding, Harrison is given the blame for everything and ends up in a fight with Antony’s brother which results in being barred from the flight home. Mutual friend Elijah defends him and decides to stay with Harrison. The fact that Elijah has secretly loved this man who never even really noticed him for years is just painful. It ends up being a blessing in disguise, as the plane crashes, without Harrison and Elijah on it. As they wait out the time necessary to be able to get another flight, they make some admissions and things go pretty quick. I am not sure how I feel about their relationship. Harrison really put up with being treated like garbage by Antony, in the vain hope he would realize they were in love. On the flip side, he sort of treats Elijah in a similar manner, though I don’t think it was on purpose. The timing was too fast for me – I wanted Harrison to be what? Noble? I’m not sure. The story ends on a beginning, which was nice, but I wish the words hadn’t been said, particularly by Harrison, because that really rang false. The rest of the story worked well for me and the Antony/Harrison toxic affair issue seemed particularly realistic. The story is well written and characters well developed.
When I requested this book, I did not realize it was part of a series. The good news is you do not need to read the other books to understand this one. Not only are they written by different authors and about different characters, the connecting theme—the crash of Flight HA1710—is explained in this book, so I didn’t feel disconnected.
I truly enjoyed this book because it made me think about decisions I’ve made in my life and where I might be had I not made them. Some of the decisions are good, and others I think were not so great. But did those same not so great decisions lead me to this point? Would I be in a totally different place had I made better choice? Would that place be better than what I have now, or worse? I’ll never know.
This book allows readers to see the events that led up to two characters making life-changing decisions. Harrison Kelley is banned from Flight HA1710 after getting in a fight at the airport. The reason for the fight? Everyone thinks he slept with the groom, Antony, the night before the wedding. And it sure seems that way from how Harrison reacted at the wedding, but was that the truth? When most seem to have abandoned him and hate him for what he’s done to the bride and groom, Elijah stands by him. Elijah has had a crush on Harrison since high school, and even though Elijah isn’t so sure the man Harrison grew up to be is quite as he remembered, Elijah makes the decision to stay off the flight and be the friend that Harrison needs.
Events unfold and the two share a room. Revelations are made about the past and present, and then the news of the plane crash breaks, the plane both of them should have been on. They start to question what they really want in life and whether or not they can truly have it.
Both characters were well developed for such a short book. Harrison has a lot of baggage from his past, and he knows he needs to make a change, but it’s difficult. Elijah has been wearing rose-colored glasses where Harrison is concerned, and when faced with the reality, he wonders if the man is what he really wants anymore, even as Harrison begins to see what he could have had if he had not been so blinded by his lust for Antony.
This story is not insta-love, and I was so glad for that. Emotions run high, and yes, there is a lot of drama. But the story, while sometimes steamy, is realistic. Harrison wants to sleep with Elijah, but Elijah refuses to be a fling for Harrison and stays true to himself. If Harrison does want him, he’ll have to work for it and show he’s moved past Antony.
The ending was hopeful. I was happy for that. There is a hope that things will work out for them, and things seem to be leading that way, but the two will take their time and enjoy discovering each other rather than rush into the physical.
I highly recommend this book. It was short and while filled with drama, just what I needed out of a book at the moment. I think now I’ll check out the other books in the series!
Despite being part of a series, the books do not appear to be connected. I really enjoyed this one! The idea that one moment in time, one choice, can so deeply impact our lives. It makes me wonder what I have missed or gained from the small decisions I've made in life.
Well worth the read. Full review to go up on The Novel Approach.
4.25 stars This is definitely my favorite story in the series so far. So much self doubt on Harrison's part regarding why he's been focused on Antony for so long -- poor guy, convincing himself that the schmuck might change for him. (Grrr, what a massive schmuck Antony is!) Gentle and steady Elijah -- he deserves to be treasured. Fantastic ending!
“...Who am I to blame you for doubting what you feel? ... I took for granted the friend I have in you ... You followed me through changes and patiently you'd wait, till I came to my senses through some miracle of fate... The search is over, love was right before my eyes.” ~ Survivor (Search is Over)
Harrison Kelly, of 'Fallout' by Meredith Russell, is dazed and confused. His sometimes lover, Anthony, propositions him the night before his wedding. Harrison is furious and turns him down, but everyone thinks otherwise: they want to blame Harrison. In pain and anger Harrison strikes out at the groom by spilling the beans about Anthony and his continuing infidelity, causing him to leave the wedding in disgrace. Fortunately his friend, Elijah, offers him comfort and support when no one else will.
Harrison has wasted years of his life being devoted to his friend, Anthony, even though their relationship is like a boomerang, constantly going, then coming back. He fervently hopes that one day, Anthony will realize he loves Harrison and will want to be with him exclusively; even though evidence points to the fact this will never happen. Their relationship is more like habit than anything else. He's gotten into a toxic pattern which he stays in regardless of the consequences. Harrison has blinders on. He is not able to see his friend, Elijah, has always been there, waiting for Harrison to get over Anthony so he might have a chance with him. After Harrison's fight with Anthony's brother at the airport and his banishment, he begins to see Elijah is the only one of his friends who cares enough to stand by him, even though it means missing his own flight to do so. Surprisingly, being with Elijah reminds Harrison of better times, before Anthony days when he was happy and carefree; when his smiles came easy and his feelings were real. When they learn the flight they were supposed to be on crashed, he has Elijah to comfort him as they run through all the 'what ifs' together and wait for word of their friends who were on the flight. Harrison and Elijah form a closer bond of friendship which will hopefully become something deeper.
When Elijah realizes Harrison is going to expose Anthony for the lying cheater he is, Elijah strongly advises against it, even though he has his doubts about Harrison's part in the whole mess; but Elijah still stands beside his friend. Elijah wants to be with Harrison, but only if he's truly given up on Anthony. Elijah wants all of him or nothing. Although it's tempting, especially with sharing a bed, to give into his desires, Elijah holds out hope of having more. Over the course of the next few days, he begins to sees glimpses of the young Harrison he fell in love with and it warms his heart, but he's still wisely cautious. Elijah only promises to be Harrison's friend, not, as yet, his lover. Harrison still has a long way to go before anything romantic happens.
This is an emotional roller coaster ride between two men transversing the territory between friends and lovers. Wise, honest Elijah just may be my favorite character in the entire series. I admire how he held his ground and refused to accept anything but the best. Harrison was not as easy to warm up to. Because of his inability to break off a relationship with someone who obviously did not have his best interests at heart, I had a difficult time respecting him. But Elijah loved Harrison and was such a good influence on him. As Harrison began to change, putting Elijah's feelings in front of his own, trying hard to improve himself, he gained my respect. All of the stories in the series are delightful and even though they can be read separately, reading them in order gives you a greater sense of continuity than if they were read out of order. If you like stories about honesty, forgiveness, character growth, and hope, you may enjoy this tale. Thanks, Meredith, for the excellent read.

Harrison Kelley has been in love with Antony since they were in high school and it took Antony getting married to Caroline to make him realise that all he’d ever been to Antony was a booty call, someone to call and have sex with when he was he in the mood. It never mattered to Antony who he slept with so long as he got what he wanted he was happy. What made it even worse for Harrison was the fact that Antony convince him to sleep with him after he was engaged to marry Caroline. After the buck’s night Antony ended up in Harrison’s room trying his everything to get Harrison to sleep with him because it really didn’t matter that he was getting married to someone else in the morning! Harrison stuck to his guns and spurned Antony’s advances until Antony fell asleep.
After the ceremony Harrison had to return Antony’s watch that he left in his room and found him coming out of the toilets with the barman. When Harrison said maybe someone needed to tell Caroline just what she’d married Antony threatened to tell her that Harrison had sex with him the night before because, what she didn’t know wouldn’t hurt her, right? And that right there everything died inside Harrison that was when he realised that he was never anything more than a convenient lay for Antony.
Elijah Pettifer was also at the wedding because they all went to school together and yes, even though he wasn’t in the same league as Antony and Harrison he was in their circle because they all played baseball together. Elijah knew all about Harrison and Antony but then again, there weren’t many people who didn’t know about them. It just happened that Elijah was madly in love with Harrison and had been since high-school the only thing wrong with that is the fact that Harrison didn’t even know Elijah was alive. He couldn’t believe that Harrison would sleep with Antony the night before the wedding though! When he finds out that there was no actual sex involved he feels his faith in Harrison’s decency has been restored but as it turns out he’s the only one who believes they didn’t have sex. As Harrison is giving back Antony his watch Caroline shows up and sees what Harrison has and puts two and two together and things go downhill from there.
After Caroline calls the marriage off and the entire group are heading back to the airport to go home Harrison has a few problems dealing with just how stupid and gullible he has been all these years so he heads to the nearest bar to start drinking and doesn’t stop until their flight is called. That’s when Antony’s older brother starts a fight with Harrison and Harrison gets kicked off the flight. Elijah can’t stand to see Harrison alone so he defers his flight to stay back with Harrison. As Elijah is helping Harrison work through his issues they completely miss the crash but it doesn’t come without its own guilt.
Because of the crash they end up spending several days in London before they’re able to leave but it’s during this time that Harrison really sees himself for the person he s and he realises that although he always had a blind spot where Antony is concerned it’s not no longer an issue, he will not be seeing or talking to Antony anytime soon. Meanwhile Elijah falls even more in love with Harrison and is only too happy to help him work through his issues. They make the decision to wait until they’re back in America and take things slowly. Although there is no sex in this book, yes I know! Shocking!! It doesn’t put any undue pressure on the story or characters. Fallout is a book I will be recommending to everyone.

Oooh, surprisingly, Elijah and Harrison turned out to be my favortie couple, so far, out of this Flight HA1710 series. The series revolves around the crash of the plane and as I mentioned before, those who were in it or not on said plane, their lives were inadvertently changed for the better or worse.
Harrison had been in a destructive relationship. It was a relationship based solely on habbit and like any addiction, it was difficult for him to break it off. Yes, he tried but just like a smoker or a junkie, he turned from his addiction with one step back and returned to it full throttle. Not a good thing to do, especially when he went all out, it was at a wedding. I won't spill the details, just know, he met face with fist and got hauled off out.
To make matters even worse than they already were, Harrison's life takes a nosedive. It results to his getting banned from an airport and missing his flight. Was this an unfortunate event knowing said plane crashes? I think it was fortunate for when the waste hits the AC somewhere there has to be an open window to let out the bad smell right?
This is where Elijah comes in. He is a dog lover and friend to Harrison. He goes out of his way, I would say went through all the lenghts, to help out his friend. In the process, they find themselves in each others' company. That is a good thing, for this is the part when Harrison begins to realize what he had been missing out all along.
I cannot spill the details, this is still pending release, but I can reveal that both men get to have the happiness they deserve. Harrison also gets to realize who he is and see what he could become. Elijah finally gets the chance he'd missed out on and will get his chance to claim his man. The road to their discovery of what was clearly in front of them, is the icing on this cakish book.
Sweet, rough, stupid, romantic. These are the words the come to mind when thinking Elijah and Harrison. Thing is, I realize I want more of them so want more of their story in the future. That need to know more is what makes them my fave couple so far....

As the fourth book in the Flight HA1710 Series, this one not about a passenger on the plane, but about someone who misses the flight because of other circumstances. Harrison has been in love with Anthony his whole life. But, Anthony is marrying someone else. Someone being a woman. That doesn’t stop Anthony from propositioning Harrison the night before the wedding, but getting rejected. Things become chaotic when the bride thinks that the two men did spend the night together and Harrison gets blamed for the entire thing. Harrison gets drunk, ends up in a fist fight with Anthony’s brother, and then gets escorted out of the airport when he tries to go home, missing the doomed flight. The airport goes on lockdown after the crash, leaving passengers (including Harrison) trapped with nowhere to go.
Enter Elijah. He comes to his friend’s rescue, allowing Harrison to see him in a new light. Elijah has had feelings for Harrison for a long time, but Harrison’s on/off again thing with Anthony always stood in the way. Elijah convinces Harrison to be the better man and leave Anthony in the past.
I had mixed feelings about this story. On one hand, the plane crash is just a minor part in this story. On the other hand, I found it creative that the author told the tale of a character who ended up missing the flight and the repercussions of that act. Overall, this was a sweet, sensual, loving story between the latter two men that I really did enjoy.
4-1/2 Stars Sometimes unexpected mistakes can lead to unexpected joys. I think that there might be a tiny bit of survivor's quilt working on Elijah and Harrison for having missed Flight HA1710 but the bases of Fallout is about their connection and opening themselves up to the possibilities that they could be so much more to each other. So well written and the characters just blend perfectly, especially with all the drama that led up to the boys missing the flight.
Overall series review and rating: 5 Stars Each story is technically a standalone although everything is tied together around Flight HA1710 and I think it flows better if you read the series in order. I have heard of all the authors in this series but had only previously read RJ Scott and Serena Yates so this was a great way to become familiar with the others. I have definitely added Sara York, Meredith Russell, Clare London, and Amber Kell to my authors-to-read list.
3.5* I did enjoy this one - despite the two main characters, Harrison and Elijah, not actually being on the plane.
The main characters, Harrison and Elijah, are in London for a wedding. Harrison has had an on/off with Anthony, the groom, for over 14 years and despite not wanting to be more involved, Harrison has to fend off Anthony on the night before the wedding.
The story is largely the build uo to and the reception of the wedding, and the fallout of Harrison's perceived actions. There is also fallout from the events that mean Harrison and Elijah miss the doomed flight and their survivor guilt. They are tippy-toeing through the start of a relationship, Elijah holding Harrison back from diving straight in.
This was a bit different to the other Flight HA1710 stories as the two main characters; Harrison and Elijah don't board the plane. After a friend's wedding and the bust up that ensued at the reception Harrison gets drunk and is barred from the plane. Elijah stays behind with him and the two men wake up the next morning to news that the plane has crashed. As the two men try to find out how the friends are they both work through the 'what if's' and their own feelings about each other. This was a beautifully written emotional rollercoaster that I thoroughly enjoyed.
