Sins of the Father #4

Sweet Devotion

Rate this book
When I first laid eyes on Zuri Alexander, I knew she was mine.

And becoming more than friends was just as easy as breathing.

But she doesn’t know my secrets. There’s a dark side to the family business. So, I lie to her to cover it up.

I know she can feel the wall building between us, and I want nothing more than to tear it down…but the only way to do that is to share my truth with her.

That the girl she’s dating is involved in organized crime.

But when Zuri becomes a target of what appears to be some red pill incel, I know we’re the only ones who can keep her safe.

I just hope she can trust me one last time.
Because my devotion to her means there is nothing I won’t do to protect her.

Sweet Devotion is a 24k-word novella that contains violence, an attempted abduction, misogyny, sl*t shaming, and discussion of losing parents.

I wish I got to experience more of the evolution of their relationship. It would have been nice to see the journey from friends to lovers. I know it’s a novella and they’re meant to be short but just feels like I missed out! Ash and Zuri were really sweet and I liked how protective they were of one another.

Just feel a little cheated, is all!

Received an arc in exchange for my honest review.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

This book is a shorter novella set within the Sins of the Fathers series. It is helpful to have read at least some of the books in the series, as Aislin’s family history has all been laid out and all of the former MCs are here.

It was fun seeing the whole crew of found family again as Aislin and Zuri’s relationship unfolds. The story and the relationship move fast due to the length of the book, but Aislin and Zuri’s story is a heated and enjoyable read of first love and strong family ties.

Read Michelle's review in its entirety here.

‼️SPOILERS‼️

I was so happy when I found out that Aislin (Ash) and Zuri was going to get a book and it was so worth it. When it comes to Riley’s books, I know the books are going to be a good time.

I really loved how we get everything we wanted and more. I had a feeling that the guy that drugged Aislin would pop up the more I read this one.

I loved the caretaking moments between these two, especially with how Ash takes control of taking care of her needs whether in the bedroom or just putting her head wrapped around on before bed. Those moments were so cute.

I haven’t read too many sapphic romances but the ones I have are a pleasure and this one right here is one of my favorites. It doesn’t surprise me because it’s by one of my favorite authors that we get all of my favorite moments. I hope we get to see these characters in the future.

If you’re looking for a novella, something sweet and spicy, touch her and die vibes, I highly recommend this one.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I thought this book was okay. Definitely not my favorite in this series but still good for a novella.
It is FF, mafia, sweet and spicy, and has a bit of misogyny in it.
Nice tie into the end of a series.

ARC REVIEW
SWEET DEVOTION (SINS OF THE FATHER 4) di Riley Hart
5⭐

English Review: It’s so great to be back reading this series!! I missed them all so much, especially Rory, Olly, and Cillian (I still dream about them at night!). In this series, I find myself loving everyone because they really are a wonderful extended family who look out for each other. This time, the main characters of the book are Aislin 'O Shea and Zuri Alexander. Aislin is Tiernan' sister, the main character of the first book in the series, Bittersweet Revenge. In this novel, which I must say is definitely more calm than the previous three ( it’s barely 100 pages long), it’s Zuri who faces trouble when she receives some terrible and dangerous threats. Luckily, Aislin’s family—and Aislin herself—will figure out who’s harassing her and, most importantly, put an entire stop to the whole situation. I devoured the book in just a few hours because it’s really short, but it’s still wonderful and spicy! I can’t wait to start the new spin-off series! I recommend the entire series because it’s truly worth it. Riley Hart always makes me feel a whole lot of emotions in her books, but with this series, I think she’s really outdone herself. I love her and all the books in this wonderful series, which I think should be read, devoured, and loved just as I did! I received an ARC copy in exchange of my honest review.

********

There’s something about this author that allows her to capture so much in so little, and this novel was no exception.

Aislin (Ash)
is Tiernan’s sister; as we saw in the previous books, she belongs to a mafia family, and while that isn’t a major theme in this book, it’s something to keep in mind. Zuri is a medical student and is Ash's girlfriend. I really loved their relationship and how Zuri saw Ash for who he truly was and didn’t make a big deal out of the mafia connection. That said, I have to admit I didn’t expect such a powerful story about female empowerment to unfold in just these few pages (97) without giving too much away, it was a theme the story focused on heavily.

It was a lovely story, a novel that gave me everything in so few words: it gave me love, friendship, and family, and that’s something I love about this author’s writing.

📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.

Couple: Aislin and Zuri.

Structure: 1st person. Present tense. Dual POV. Spin-off in a series.

From the first time Aislin and Zuri appeared together in the series, I was curious about them. When Riley announced she'd right a novella about them, I was excited. And they did not disappoint.

They are so sweet together, so in love with each other. And seeing the cause that are important to them, Aislin's different attachment to her family's business, was also interesting. The story had the intention showing women's empowerment all along, even at the face of possessiveness, which was nice.

All that said, it is a story that has the potential to be so much more developed. I understand the intention of making it a novella, but I feel like it has the same complexity of the other volumes in the series, but told in a faster pacing. It would have been really amazing to have seen both of them more developed, both individually and as a couple. When I thought I was beginning to feel more deeply what they were feeling and going through, things were cut. It does have a whole plot and solution, and it was well elaborated. But it really does have the potential to be a full-length novel.

For the fans of the Sins of the father series, I think this is a very nice reading. Very fast and sweet, with some hot moments as well 💕

Sweet Devotion is a good companion novella to the Sins of the Father series. A series that I will rave about from here to eternity.

Aislin, or Ash as most call her, is Tiernan's sister and has been an integral part of the storyline since the beginning. She's Dean's best, and possibly only, friend aside from Tiernan, but more than that Ash and Dean have a special bond that he doesn't have with anyone else. Ash is also super close to Rory and Cillian too since she grew up with them. Ash is the calm within the O'Shea house. The sweetness among the rough, morally-gray men who all make an appearance, along with their special someones. It made this novella extra endearing to revisit every character at least once.❤️

There has been a hint of what Ash and Zuri mean to each other as this series has progressed and finally, this is the inside look of how their friendship turned into more. While this is a novella and their story doesn't have a lot of the external factors, like the guys had to face, it is why I called it a companion story to begin with. It fits nicely tucked in the midst of what's happened with Tiernan and Dean, Rory and Shai, and Cillian and Ollie's books up to this point. It's a nice way to wrap up a great series with getting to know a bit more about these two strong women. So, don't get me wrong, they do have their own plot in this book, but the biggest part, at least for me, was getting to know the girls on a deeper level and getting to know who they are together.❤️

Aislin O’Shae did not at all disappoint! Aislin has stood by while her brother, cousin and bestie all fell in love and it is FINALLY this girl's turn at love! I simply adored how she fell so hard and fast for Zuri. And really who could blame her. Zuri is amazing, she is fierce, smart, driven, and so kind. While Zuri and Aislin became quick friends the romance took a minute. As much as Aislin was all in, so was Zuri. Zuri really saw what an amazing person Aislin was- while someone might have been a little put off by Aislin’s family and how protective they are with one another Zuri embraced them all for who they are. While both of them are confident women, this new relationship was different and I really enjoyed how they took their time and went at it a little slowly- it made a lot of sense for their personalities and Aislin’s reservations. I love how Aislin had the same concerns as her brother and cousins about pulling someone into the family that didn’t necessarily want to be involved or because of danger ... .but the boys rally around her to calm her worries and truly just wanted to see her happy.
The little family that was created in this series just made me so happy! I love how they continue to show up for one another, support each other as they fall in love and find their people. I am excited for what is next in the mafia world that Riley had created!

I’m so glad Riley decided to give us Aislin and Zuri’s story. Since getting to know them in the previous book, I wanted more about their relationship.

Aislin is such a badass. She might not be ruthless like her brother and cousins but she could definitely stand up for herself and the people she loved. She was always there when they need her most and always gave them the best advice when they were having relationship issues.

It was only fair that she too got her HEA with an equally strong and fierce woman. Zuri became Ash’s world from the moment they met but being an O’Shea was a blessing and a curse. It automatically put a target on anyone Ash cared about.

But Zuri wasn’t having any of that. She loved Ash and all she wanted was for her to let her in. She had an idea of the kind of family the O’Sheas were, but Ash was more important than anything they did.

When Zuri’s life is in danger, she finally sees how much the O’Shea family takes care of those they love. If she had any doubts about Ash’s love for her, that moment would cleared any of them.

Loved their story. Loved that Aislin got her own HEA after seeing everyone around her get theirs. I can’t love this series enough. It’s honestly one of my favorite Riley series 🥰

I was so happy when I found out that Aislin was getting her story because I couldn’t imagine the series without her. She was as much a part of the mini mob as anyone else so it would have felt incomplete without her! Even though Aislin’s story was shorter - I don’t feel like we were missing anything! You got the ‘mini mob’ moments, the danger, the caretaking, and the spice.

I don’t read a lot of FF romance but I really should start because this was so good.

Zuri is introduced to Aislin’s family - and is immediately welcome in, which is good, because they take care of family. And Zuri is in need for protection. She’s planning a women’s march but someone very much doesn’t like it. And when we see who it is (spoiler - someone returns from a previous book), it’s clear that Zuri is in danger. I loved getting to see the caretaking from Aislin after the danger and seeing how all the boys rally around them.

Make sure you’ve read the previous 3 books in the series to truly enjoy this novella to its fullest!

What you’re getting: found family | “touch her and die” | friends to lovers | caretaking | mafia family | HEA | 🌶️🌶️

I'm so happy that we got to see more of Ash and Zuri's romance! I liked the glimpses shown throughout the series, and I loved that they got their own novella.

These two had so much affection for each other, and they were very sweet together. Neither of them had dated another girl before, so there were some first times and exploring going on. Their relationship was already established in the beginning of the novella, and while they had some moments shown in the previous books, I would have loved to see more of their early relationship development.

The story was focused on Ash and the secrets she was keeping from Zuri about her family and their dealings. Their insecurities and feelings felt genuine, and they were both worried about losing each other. I loved how protective they felt of each other, and while they had some communication issues initially, it was clear how much they both cared for each other.

Sweet Devotion was a sweet ending to the Sins of the Father series, and I could have easily read a full novel with these two! I liked how this story tied up some event from an earlier book, and that both Ash and Zuri got the revenge they deserved. I've become quite attached to the characters in this series, and it was great to see that their found family was still as protective and tight-knit as ever!

3.5 ⭐️ - Sweet Devotion was a quick, entertaining read that packed plenty of romance, suspense, and protective energy into a novella. I was invested from the start, and Riley Hart did a good job balancing the relationship with the danger surrounding the characters.

I really liked Zuri and the chemistry between her and the FMC. Their connection was sweet, and the devotion between them definitely lived up to the title. The organized crime element added some tension, and the mystery surrounding who was targeting Zuri kept the story moving.

That said, I do think the novella format limited the emotional impact. I would have loved more time with the characters, especially when it came to the secrets and the resolution. Some moments felt a bit rushed, and I wanted to dig deeper into their relationship before everything wrapped up.

Overall, Sweet Devotion was an enjoyable, fast-paced sapphic romantic suspense novella. It delivers protective love, high stakes, and enough action to keep the pages turning. If you're looking for a quick read with romance, danger, and a devoted couple at its center, this one is worth checking out

SWEET DEVOTION is the fourth installment in the Sins of the Father series. It can be read as a stand alone but I really don't know why you'd want to. You would miss so much.

What to expect:
🔥Friends to Lovers
🔥First Time Queer Relationship
🔥Sapphic Romance
🔥Found Family
🔥Touch Her & Die Vibes
🔥Mafia Family
🔥Novella

Ash and Zuri start as friends but quickly become more. Ash hasn't shared what her family does and who exactly they are but Zuri knows to some extent. Ash is afraid that it will be too much for Zuri and she'll walk away. Ash would follow in a heart beat but really doesn't want to leave her family but would if she had to for Zuri. When Zuri is threatened she quickly learns that the O'Shea's will do whatever they need to do to protect those that they love.

I loved finally getting Ash and Zuri's story. Their relationship is hinted at throughout the series and to finally get to read it was chef's kiss! Ash is fiercely protective of Zuri and so sweet and loving too. It's the best of both worlds.

This series wouldn’t feel complete unless we got Aislin and Zuri’s story! This was a great novella for these two and see how Aislin finally takes the final step to share what her life is like with Zuri. From the moment, these two met, there were sparks. They got to start as friends before making it so much more. But Aislin will admit she has been holding back. While she can imagine Zuri can guess exactly what her family is like, telling her is different. But she can’t let her fear of losing Zuri keep her from telling the truth. It’s time to take a chance. Zuri knows Aislin hasn’t told her everything but she is there for when she does because she never imagined caring for someone the way she does Aislin. Especially after losing her own family. And when Zuri is threatened, she sees exactly what the O’Sheas are all about when it comes to protecting those they love. Absolutely loved these two! I was so happy to get a novella about them and see them get their happy ending. A great way to end this series!

ARC Review - 3.75⭐️

I love this series and the darker tone it has to the other books of Riley’s I’ve read, and I love that we’re getting Aislin’s story. Til now it’s just been the boys MM books. I always wonder about the females in the group, and it must have been manifested for some of my favourite writers as they’ve recently ventured into FF novellas. This is Riley’s first.

The prologue sets everything up quickly and then we’re back with the mini mob. I love the connection they all have with each other, especially Aislin and her brother Tiernan, and Rory is hilarious.

Aislin and Zuri start out as friends before moving to something more and as with the prior three books there’s some underbelly stuff for the mini mob to get involved in in relation to Zuri.

I did find this a little choppy a couple of times. The girls are likeable but I wasn’t really feeling the romance, though there’s plenty of spice and I think it was done well.

I’m glad Aislin got her HEA to fully complete the series and am looking forward to the linked series Sinful Things.

Sweet Devotion by Riley Hart is a novella centered around a side character in the Sins of the Father series. There's Aislin (Tiernan's sister) and Zuri (her love interest, vaguely mentioned in most of the books but you don't see more of her until book 3).

Aislin struggles a bit with her identity as a mafia daughter and separating her actions and behavior from "the boys" in the group. While Zuri is a fiercely independent woman doesn't like anyone taking care of her. Together, they are a powerhouse of woman independence and advocacy.

Aislin and Zuri's love story is so sweet. Riley easily incorporates them into the overall love story of the boys from the prior books.

This wouldn't be a Sins of the Father story without a little darkness but its necessary for Zuri to acknowledge she accepts Aislin and the boys for who they are. While I wasn't expecting a side story about Aislin and Zuri, I'm really glad they got one.

....Now, what about Fia? I think that woman deserves a good partner too!

This was such a sweet, heartfelt novella about two strong and brave women finding love when they both least expect it 🥹. I've loved Ash from the first time we met her in Bittersweet Revenge, where her friendship with Dean flourished and we realized what a vital character she is to not only the family, but the plot as well.

Hart has such a way with bringing characters to life! They have depth, flaws, vulnerabilities and so much more that makes you really relate to them. Zuri & Ash are no exception to this! I laughed with them, got angry on their behalf, teared up with them, and ultimately loved alongside them as they find their place inside each other's worlds. These two are on different paths, from different worlds, and yet they compliment each other beautifully and complete each other wholly 😍. This book was definitely needed, to give Ash her HEA and it was also just so wholesome to see how Zuri fit in amongst the other characters and such a delight to revisit this little motley crew family 🫶.

Rounding out the series with this sweet and tantalizing novella was such a joy. Riley is one of my "absolute reads" and I knew when I heard Ash and Zuri were getting a book that I'd love it.

This book brings all the fun, suspense, banter and love from the other books, but focuses on Tiernan's sister Aislin and her blooming relationship with Zuri.

The two women have some very sweet and sensual moments as they learn what they like as a same sex couple. The way that they take care of each other and the gentleness they share is really top notch.

The book can't be a part of the Sins of the Father series and not take a turn! When Zuri is a target of a misogynist, the whole family joins together to keep her safe. There are some bad ass moves and girl power and the rest of the guys take care of what's needed,

I really liked this ending. I would have loved to see these two have a full length book and not a novella but I enjoyed it, nonetheless.

I just finished reading “Sweet Devotion” from Riley Hart and the only complaint it wasn’t long enough. I loved Zuri and Aislin. They were friends who became lovers or technically their relationship evolved into what it was meant to be. As they are navigating this new relationship there is someone who is targeting Zuri and Aislin has to decide how much of her family she wants to share. Once you know the O’Shea’s there is no turning back. When the threats come to the point that the boys have to step in you know it’s going to be interesting to say the least. Even though there is all this turmoil and Zuri knows who Aislin really is you would think it would break them. No, it just made them stronger. Riley always writes great books and I loved “Sweet Devotion” the characters, the love between these two, and the obstacles that they endured to get to their HEA. Makes everything worth it and that’s the type of love they have one that is worth everything.

Aislin & Zuri

Novella
Sapphic romance
First time queer romance
Friends to lovers
Found family
Mafia family

I was so glad we got an Aislin book. I so wanted to know about these two.

I adored these two. So sweet and perfect for each other.

Zuri fit perfectly with this wild found family.

I loved the mystery and danger in this, it felt natural with this series. I loved seeing Aislin go full O’Shea on those who dared threaten her girl. Along with the slow-burning care-taking relationship we got with Zuri & Aislin, these two were so cute.

I loved seeing the others from this series.

So glad to add another wonderful sapphic romance to my read list.

So glad we got their hea finally

So thankful for this arc.

WOMEN. That’s it. That’s the review. 😂

But seriously, these two are my absolute favorites, and I’m so glad we finally got to see more of them together. Aislen has been one of my favorite characters since the very beginning. She may not have been directly involved in the family business, but that never made her any less important. I always felt like she was the one who kept everyone grounded.

I love how Aislen’s family immediately accepted Zuri as one of their own. They knew how much Zuri meant to Aislen. That’s all they needed to know. When Zuri found herself in danger, they dropped everything to make sure she was safe. In their eyes, she was family. And family takes care of family no matter what.

I really hope we get to see more of this crew in the new series. I’m not ready to let them go just yet.

Amazing!!

So much was packed into this book. Romance, Thriller, Mystery and a lot more.

I loved Aislin and Zuri a lot. Zuri was a such a driven young woman it was nice to see. She stood up for other women even when she was in danger. Kudos to her!! Aislin was so sweet and supportive. I liked how they handled that incel's ass. He deserved worse.

I liked how the Author discussed the rise of the consumption of red pill content. It was as realistic as it could be. These men think they are entitled to Women's bodies and time, having a deep need to control us. Well, fuck them no Woman owes you anything and women are fully capable to taking care of themselves. It is actually sad the amount of men who believe in this type of content!!

Their family was so supportive and protective of each other, it was nice to read. I really liked this novella, highly recommend.

If you read the first three books in this series- all MM- you had to love Aislin. Not only the only woman, but the youngest. Who was under her father's thumb but is now happily living life at college. And through those three books we know that Aislin and Zuri are together. But we didn't know the STORY. Now we do.

We get a novella that tells a full story- from when they met to the conflict that they have to deal with and a lovely prologue (I love a flash forward prologue!) without sacrificing story, dialogue or arc.

And who knew Rory would turn into a giant teddy bear? I mean, a mafia teddy bear but still.

In the end, Zuri found herself a family, Aislin found herself and we were left totally satisfied.

*trigger warning* there was a murder or two that seemed a bit gratuitous, even for mafia. But you be the judge

😏🔥 Zuri and her girl have that friends-to-lovers connection I love, but add in secret mafia family business, lies, danger, and someone targeting Zuri? Suddenly the romance comes with a whole lot of chaos.

And the PROTECTIVE energy?? 👀🖤 She is absolutely giving "touch her and you die" and I am here for every second of it.

Short, steamy, emotional, and packed with enough mafia chaos to make me immediately want to go back and read the rest of the series. There are a bunch of Irish boys in this messy mafia family and I am already dying to know more about them. 😮‍💨🔥

Sweet Devotion by Riley Hart delivers a heartfelt blend of romance, suspense, and fierce loyalty. Even though it's a novella, Hart packs an incredible amount of emotion into every page, making Ash and Zuri's story feel complete, meaningful, and unforgettable. While reading this novella, I enjoyed how the story balanced tender romantic moments with the darker elements of the O'Shea family's world. The suspense added just the right amount of tension without overshadowing the romance, and the protective instincts, found family, and unconditional love that have defined this series are on full display. Overall, Sweet Devotion was a touching, action-packed, and emotionally rewarding finale that left me closing the book with a full heart.

I received an ARC copy from The Author Agency. Thank you for giving me the chance to read this novel and share my honest review of the novel!

This is the fourth book in this impressive series, and this is Zuri and Aislin / Ash’s story.
Ash is Tiernan’s sister, and she has watched those around her fall in love, and when she first sees Zuri, she know this is the one for her, and they quickly become friends. When Zuri becomes a target, Ash know is determined to keep her safe and protected.
This is a well written action packed, easy and quick read, with found family, friendships, emotions, secrets, friends / lovers, touch her and die vibes, trust, devotion, danger, suspense, intrigue, violence, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and twisted, mafia romance novella.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I was really excited for this, Riley's first sapphic book! I was a little let down at the beginning because it was so rushed, lots of telling, and we didn’t get to see them start dating since they already were. Fortunately, part way into the story it hooked me. I enjoyed how egalitarian and honest their relationship was. I liked how much they talked and just enjoyed each other's company. The smut was decent. I found it refreshing that the girls saved themselves and demanded autonomy. I appreciated that the conflict was some incel and not some "other man" drama that sometimes happens in sapphic books.
In the end I liked them together, their story, and their found family. I just felt the execution of the book left a bit to be desired. I didn’t like how choppy the start was. For me, it took away from the connection and emotional depth I felt towards the characters as a reader. I would totally read another sapphic book by this author in the future.

Sweet Devotion is a novella concluding the Sins of the Fathers series, and Riley Hart literally tied up with a big red bow.

This book follows Aislin and Zuri's relationship unfolding throughout the first three books. It layered nicely with everything that we had already read from their perspective.

The girls are sweet and spicy together, and I loved their relationship. Aislin is worried that Zuri will be scared and judge her for her family's "business," but Zuri just rolls with it. After Zuri finds herself in trouble, Aislin is the one that comes to the rescue.

I loved the epilogue. They always get me, and this one was a good one. I loved seeing the boys too. Can't wait for the next series Sinful Things with Riley starting things off with Craving Sin.
