Anna Kucera has spent the last few years perfecting the art of survival after her past nearly destroyed her. Now her life operates by three stay sober, follow a routine, and stay in control. Confining? Maybe. A little boring? Perhaps. But, boring is safe, and she’s not about to let anything—or anyone—threaten the sanctuary she’s built for herself.
Casper Carrows knows Anna should be off-limits. He’s the tattoo artist, she’s the client—not to mention too sensible for someone like him. Too disciplined, orderly, and determined to keep her life clean and carefully contained in a perfect little box. He’s reckless, impulsive, and far too damaged to let anyone near—he learned early that everyone leaves in the end.
Everything changes the moment Anna comes in for a cover-up tattoo and Casper sees the brutal scars on her back. She’s hiding something and he can’t let it go.
What starts as curiosity quickly spirals into obsession as he realizes how much Anna has concealed from the world. When he discovers a hidden corridor that allows him to watch from inside her walls, it becomes all too easy to keep an eye on her. After all, hiding in the shadows is something Casper has always done well.
The more he inserts himself into Anna’s carefully controlled life, the harder he falls. With his shameless flirting, relentless banter, and golden-retriever charm, he makes her feel something she hasn’t in alive. But falling for Casper means facing the truth—his devotion is dark, but his need to protect her is even darker.
Of Karma and Corridors is a dark rom-com with an unhinged morally gray golden-retriever. Please read responsibly.
Sloane St. James began writing in 2022, it combines two of her favorite things, books and getting plowed. She enjoys writing strong, witty females and the dirty-talking men that love them--with a little suspense tossed in wherever she can. As an avid hockey fan, her Lakes Hockey series was a natural place to start and debuted in March 2023.
When she's not writing, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and, of course, reading romance.
Dare I say this is my new favorite Sloane St. James book?? Everything about Of Karma and Corridors was amazing. I love a good trauma recovery arc, so getting to unpack Anna Kucera a lot more after first meeting her in Strong and Wild (from the Lakes Hockey series) was incredibly satisfying. Witnessing the evolution of her character, as well as gaining more context about her past, was one of my favorite parts of this story.
Now let’s talk MMC, because Casper Carrows, THE MAN THAT YOU ARE. The way this character was written as such a delightfully unhinged golden retriever of a man was so well done. Sure, he made a lot of questionable choices (like, you know, stalking Anna from the walls of her apartment under the guise of “keeping her safe”), but my man had some strong arguments to support those choices. Plus he was an absolute consent king, which we love to see, and he fully supported Anna’s recovery and empowerment.
This book was definitely dark and had a lot of graphic violence, so be wary of that as needed, but wow the torture scenes were written super well! The fact that I went from cackling to covering my mouth and almost gagging while I read with one eye shut is honestly just evidence of impeccable writing.
And let’s not forget about the spice. This book was HOT and the romance between Anna and Casper was positively scorching. Ms. Sloane knows how to write a hell of a spicy scene, and we are gifted with some truly excellent ones in this book.
Highly recommend reading this next book in the Black Rabbit series! I can’t wait to see what happens next with our man Thor.
Thank you to NetGalley and Podium Entertainment for the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy!
Casper is the definition of a Red Flag but honestly I only see Green! Do i love him... yes! Do I think there was anything wrong with what he was doing... not at all, He was just being so protective and so what if hes a little unhinged! This man was everything! I loved how he gave Anna the confidence to gain more of her life back. He had me laughing in so many parts but it was so obvious how much he cared even if it was a little obsessive!
I loved Anna, the look into her past and what's she's been through was heartbreaking especially after remembering Rhys' side in Strong and Wild. Her growth was so courageous and i loved how she handled her own and let Casper see the real her. Her strength was admirable and thought she deserved her happy ending so much!
This book had it all, the drama, the gore, the suspense and all of the love. The friendship between the workers and the way they wholeheartedly encourage each others bad behaviour was so entertaining. Cannot wait for Thor's book, the crumbs have me itching for more!
- Dark Rom Com - Stalker in her walls - Who Hurt You? - Touch her & D*e - Dark Past - Found Family - Morally Grey Golden Retriever
4.5⭐️ 4🌶
Bonus Points go towards the spice, now we all know Sloane writes scenes that will have you blushing but this, whoa! HOT DAMN woman!!!🔥🔥
Thankyou to Sloane, Podium Entertainment and Netgalley forget the opportunity to read this one early 🫶🏻
Sloane St. James has done it again! Book 2 in the Black Rabbit series, Of Karma and Corridors, was another brilliant read. I absolutely love the characters she creates, and Anna and Casper are no exception. Put them together and the chemistry is off the charts. 🔥
Casper certainly has his own unhinged ways of finding out more about Anna, who he meets when she becomes one of his tattoo clients. But that’s one of the things I love most about this series — you’re guaranteed a morally grey hottie! He definitely has his methods, but underneath it all, he just wants to keep Anna safe and protected.
Anna has been through a lot and suffered trauma, but she’s now sober and has built a very regimented lifestyle to help her maintain it. I loved seeing Casper encourage her to step outside of her comfort zone, try new things and actually experience life.
And the spice and chemistry between these two? Sublime. 👌🏼 I loved the way Casper makes Anna feel safe, alive and truly seen — while, ultimately, she learns to see and understand every part of him too.
Thank you so much to Sloane St. James and Podium Entertainment for the ARC! I absolutely loved this book and would highly recommend both Of Karma and Corridors and the Black Rabbit series. 🖤
We are keeping it dark with this series and I’m so here for it!!! I absolutely love how gritty this series is. We are getting flawed characters with sad stories and showing them being loved all the way down to their darkest roots. We know Anna Kucera, Rhys’s sister, from the Lakes series. We know she’s an addict, but she’s been in recovery for years now. She keeps her life regimented to help with her sobriety. Her brother recommended his tattoo artist to her so when she decides she’s ready to cover up some things from her past she goes to Casper at Black Rabbit. Casper is the golden retriever with a hint of crazy. He’s intrigued by Anna and wants to know more about her, then wants to protect her so badly. Casper grew up in and out of foster care. He wants to protect Anna in ways he could never protect his own mom. So maybe he’s a stalker, but he’s like a sweet stalker???? 😂 I was so surprised by so many things in this book, but I also laughed my ass off and enjoyed it so much. The spice was of course 10/10 amazing 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🥵 I will read anything Queen Sloane writes because she’s a GENIUS
First of all, this had me CACKLING throughout. Like seriously, this is one of the funniest romance books I’ve ever read.
I absolutely loved Anna and Casper and how believable they were as characters. Even within the first couple of chapters, I felt like I already understood them as individuals. Their backstories were well thought out, and the sensitive topics were covered in a way that didn't detract from the overall story. The plot was exciting. I felt it was well written and I mean, who doesn’t love a man who’ll torture those who’ve wronged you?
The spice? 10/10, chef's kiss, no notes. Sloane St. James has not and will never write a bad sex scene; I’m sure of it. This rivals her incredible work in Stand and Defend (iykyk)...
Overall, I loved this. Cannot wait for Thor’s book next!! Thanks to the publishers for the eBook!!
Maybe that's all love ever was for people like us - something built through karma and corridors.
I absolutely loved that 🥺
The story of Anna and Casper has to be my favorite. The past of Anna is truly heartbreaking. We first got a look into Anna’s troubled life in Sloane’s previous book Strong & Wild (Rhys & Mickeys book) so I knew this was going to be a tough story to tell. But it was written so so well. Casper is honestly the best. The way he treats Anna is just beautiful. It was just such a lovely story.
And the spice 🥵
And erm the epilogue - for the next book 🫠 Can’t wait !!!
It was funny, dark (check trigger warnings) and romantic in a way only the men from Black Rabbit tattoo can deliver. Casper is truly a golden retriever, and unhinged one but protective and caring nonetheless I wanted to take my time but ended up devouring it!! Full review to come but I absolutely LOVED IT!!
I always start my review process with a notepad... Im on chapter 17 and havent written down one single thing because I'm too wrapped up in enjoying myself!!
LET'S. GO. Casper... OOOF. First of all... 6'7" Need I say more? I don't need to, but I will. Casper is a unicorn. Let's ignore the stalker thing... He's not creepy, hes dedicated. That's a great quality in a man. A man who is 6'7". And tattooed. And funny. And hot. I mean damn.... Just wanna pluck him right off the page. Please stuff me with your ladder and make me pancakes, sir.
Excuse my hormones, Casper is a solid MC. Total golden retriever without being a turn off. Let's face it, there is such thing as TOO attentive. Casper doesn't even come close to toeing the line because his personality could excuse anything. Hes THAT loveable. Quick with the comebacks, he clearly loves animals (shout out to Debra), he's talented. I mean the list goes on and on for reasons to love this MMC. I would happily create a home for this loveable sexpot and never abandon him.
Anna reminded me of Shrek. Not in the looks department, clearly--she's stunning, but she's like an onion with soooo many layers lol. We learn very early on that this woman has strength, and it has to come from somewhere... I, like Casper, was instantly intrigued by Anna and learning her story. As she opens up, I get it. I get it all!!! Anna has been through it, blamed herself, made excuses for others.. Not many people live through what she has gone through, let alone come out on the other side with a good head on her shoulders and a catch like Casper!!
To the nitty-gritty. The spice IS SPICING!!!! Much like Of Ink and Alchemy, the chemistry, the banter, and the back and forth; these MCs are perfect for each other. It's almost as if Anna was an idea before Casper was, because Casper is written so freaking perfectly FOR Anna. Anyone who has experienced any kind of D.V. would heal with a Casper by their side. Anna was already strong, having pulled herself together and really made something of her situation. Casper compliments her character and really gave her the push to grow beyond her well placed comfort zones. It's hard to read this and not feel secondhand emotions for both of these characters. Anna, you want to hold and be friends with and make sure no one Fs with her! And Casper you want to also hold, reassure, and hang out with. Theyre both fun, but Casper is hilarious!!!!
Have to mention these spoiler-free incidents:
"Don't say 'get inked. Gross." - Casper THIS. THIS WAS EVEN IN MY ARC REVIEW FOR OF INK AND ALCHEMY!!! Lol. Someone had to say it and now I love Casper even more. A man after my own tattooed heart. Le sigh. 'Inked' is so early 2000s bro-hoe cringe.
"I am yours. And you are mine." - I can't read this quote and not get all the feels. They deserve this so much!!!
Youre crazy Yeah, but like, in a whimsical way, right? Look at all this whimsy ---- Casper and all his whimsy can freakin get it 🥵🥵
Sleep paralysis proboscis monkey demon - I had to look up this exact monkey and now Im dying 🤣
I'll wrap this up by saying how beyond happy I am that book 2 matched book 1s energy. This was another EASY 5 star read. I knew from the beginning it would be... I have yet to read a Sloane St James that I didnt love. So bring on Thor!!!! After that epilogue, I am ready!!!
Honorable mention: I want to have THAT much fun in a kitchen....
I loved this book just like I have loved everything you have ever written. When I read 'Of Ink and Alchemy' I knew that Casper's story was going to be one that interested me.... and I was right. Casper is just the right amount of unhinged, whilst also managing to carry off that "Golden Retriever" vibe that just made him so loveable!
Casper and Anna had an unusual "meet-cute" they are client and tattoo-artist at first, but unbeknown to Anna, Casper has been keeping tabs on her shall we say, since her first session with him. After that they just begin to grow closer, albeit reluctantly at first on Anna's behalf due to previous traumas which are so heartbreaking to read about.
Whilst the book was heartbreaking in someways, with both of the main characters having undesirable pasts that they had to heal from before they could truly love one another, it was also hilarious. This book had me genuinely laughing out loud at parts, Casper's inner monologue and the things he would say to Logan and Thor, were sometimes so completely out of pocket that it took me by surprise.
The way that both Anna and Casper took it upon one another to try and truly care for one another and fix hurts that were not theirs to repair was something so special. I loved the sort of reversal that Sloane wrote in terms of Anna ensuring Casper knew he was truly worth it and loveable. All while in Casper's point of view he sometimes felt he wasn't, whilst doing his best to slowly help Anna regain pieces of herself and her soul.
One thing about Sloane St. James, is she knows how to write a spicy scene and LORD this book was no different. The way it was written into the chapters was purposeful and incredibly hot to read. All I'll say without spoiling anything is that because of one particular scene I don't think I can look at vegetables the same ever again (I'm joking of course, keep writing the unhinged scenes PLEASE).
Last but not least I'm certainly not going to forget about Debora, our sassy little Opossum, that girly is living the life of luxury with her custom-built house and pizza nights with Casper. Certainly, she added some much-needed light to the story at points.
All that's left to say, is if you get a feeling that there are ghosts in your house and you've recently had a tattoo... your hot tattoo artist maybe be paying you a special visit to check you're following his aftercare instructions 😏
Finally, Thor... if my intuition is correct, it seems you're up next and I'm very much looking forward to whatever kind of chaos you want to bring into Sloane's world. I've got a feeling your book is going to be one I'll never forget, just like this one.
Thank you NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this ARC. All opinions are my own.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Thank you Sloane St James, Podium Publishing, and Net Galley for this ARC. Think Logan’s unhingedness can’t be topped? Then read this book, Of Karma and Corridors, the second book in the Black Rabbit series by Sloane St. James. I was absolutely here for it all and I mean, stalking by watching through someone’s bedroom wall is the sincerest form of flattery, right? This book has opossums, tattoos, pole dancing (even Casper gets on a pole), pure obsession, past traumas, stalking (but like the green flag way, right?), lots of spice, and pure love between two people who need healing.
We were introduced to both Casper and Anna in book one of the series, and a little snippet into them going out together. This book starts slightly before that day, but I loved that we were able to witness how they even got there, and of course what happens beyond this “platonic” date. Casper becomes obsessed with Anna and wants to know more about her, but when she comes home after he breaks into her apartment, he has to find a place to hide… and then he discovers a way to get into the corridor that is alongside her apartment to hide out in. He continues to come back to the spot and finds out so much more of Anna, as well as learning her regimented routine from a planted air tag on her car. He may also press his luck by going inside her apartment while she is showering, too. You can only imagine how this scene plays out.
Anna has no idea what is happening behind her walls, but she does know that weird things are happening because pillows are moved, she hears sounds, and drinks are missing from her fridge. Anna is three years sober and has a past that she has finally begun truly healing from, and making things right with her brother. All is well until her past turns back up and she needs to do what she has to do to make things go away and to also stay sober. Our hero Casper though is always a few steps ahead and will do anything for Anna, but can she really trust Casper like she wants to? AHH! You need to read to find out because I have already given WAYYYY too much.
This book was an eleven star read. That’s right, double that five stars and I raise you one star. I absolutely loved this book and completely devoured it in two days (I have kids, otherwise it would be one.) I could not put it down and I had many gasps. The love Anna and Casper had for each other was more than obsession. Two people who needed an incredible amount of healing in their own ways- Casper and Anna both had their trauma in life and had to heal themselves, but each needed the other to do that. I had all of the emotions in this book. I would also like to throw in a little warning for the gory descriptions in three scenes, but Casper is pretty humorous and I will never listen to Blues Traveler and not think of him again. Also, if that’s your only “trigger”, you’re absolutely fine. Bring me all of the red flags, because I am here for the Black Rabbit men!
I walked into this expecting a slow burn tattoo shop romance and left with a man who built himself a secret corridor to WATCH his girl through her own walls, and I have never forgiven Sloane St. James faster.
Anna Kucera runs her life on three rules, sobriety, routine, control, because the alternative is remembering why she needed the rules in the first place. She walks into Casper Carrows' shop for a tattoo cover-up and walks out with a man who finds the scars on her back and decides, quietly, permanently, that he is never leaving her alone again. Emphasis on the never. Emphasis on the alone. Casper doesn't just fall for Anna, he installs himself into the architecture of her house and her life, and Anna has to decide whether the man watching from the walls is the safest place she's ever stood or the most dangerous.
What worked: the BANTER. These two are so funny together that I forgot for whole chapters I was reading a dark romance and not a rom-com with a body count energy. And then Anna finally tells Casper the truth about what happened to her, and I had to put the book down and stare at a wall, because St. James does not do trauma reveals halfway, she goes for the throat and then hands you the tissues after. Casper spends the entire book waving red flags like he's directing air traffic and somehow makes it charming, which should be illegal. And his mouth. I'm not going to elaborate. I don't need to. You'll know.
Trope Chaos Check ✨ Stalker romance (he built himself a hallway inside her house, this is not a metaphor) ✨ Golden retriever mmc with a psycho streak (tail wagging, also possibly should be on a list) ✨ Morally grey hero (grey is generous) ✨ Trauma-informed healing arc (who-did-this-to-you energy from start to finish) ✨ Dirty-talking mmc (see: previous paragraph, see: my knees)
★★★★☆ unhinged in the best possible way, funny when it shouldn't be, devastating when it needs to be, and Casper Carrows should legally be required to disclose himself as a hazard.
Huge thank you to Podium for the ARC of Of Karma and Corridors, I was already feral for this series after book one and you just fed the addiction.
I have to say, after reading the epilogue in book 1 I was incredibly intrigued about Casper and Anna. They felt so different and like they had nothing in common, but I believed Sloan had a plan…and what a wonderful plan.
This story was exponentially darker than book 1 but it was fitting. The topics were handled with care and attention, truly felt raw and close to the heart. Anna was so strong, she fought for herself but in that fight, trapped herself in a routine. Her fears were keeping her from truly living and meeting Casper pushed her out of that bubble. Well, should I say Casper himself shoved her out of that bubble, but like, with care and all.
Casper was truly the man of dreams. His relationship with Anna evolved and changed, but he never treated her differently, no matter what he learned or what she showed him. His respect and love for her were deep and genuine, loyalty so strong in his personality he would have done anything for her.
I have to say, I laughed plenty with their antics. Their banter was playful and funny, the group moments were also hilarious and even the “dark” moments were blanketed with humor and jokes.
Sloane, you’ve brought to life a craving for a tattoo from people who don’t exist. But at least you are letting us read about them falling head over heels in love. Thank you for the Black Rabbit crew.
NetGalley, Podium, and Sloane Rangers…this book landing early in my inbox was a blessing…and a curse because what am I supposed to do with myself until the next one?! But thank you for sharing this amazing book with me early.
Received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, so I was ready to go back into the worlds of Black Rabbit and Lakes Hockey. This book took me on a real journey. I laughed, cried, and was kicking my feet the entire time. Rhys and Micky! Their moments with Anna were so well done, it was really nice to see how much their relationships have grown. Also getting to go back to Black Rabbit and see all of the familiar faces was a lot of fun.
Our golden retriever Casper had so many layers to him. Getting to see the possessive, unhinged side I knew was hiding underneath was HOT. Our girl Anna has come such a long way since we first met her in Strong and Wild. Her strength and willingness to keep working on herself and continue healing was so inspiring to watch. Seeing Casper slowly break through Anna’s walls while Anna helped Casper finally see his own worth made their relationship feel so special.
The spicy scenes were EXACTLY what I wanted them to be and what I expect from St. James. As someone who reads a lot of romance, those scenes can sometimes start to feel repetitive. St. James always manages to make them feel fresh. The descriptions and fun locations made every scene stand out.
It wouldn’t be a Sloane St. James book without leaving us breadcrumbs for the next one. She is an absolute mastermind when it comes to setting up what’s next, and I am already chomping at the bit to get back into this world.
Of Karma and Corridors is a dark, messy and a bit unhinged romance about tattoo artist Casper and Anna, who is rebuilding her life after severe trauma. I was completely hooked from the beginning! Casper is the ultimate unhinged golden retriever - he's sweet, hilarious, protective, and just the right amount of terrifying. Anna is a strong, pink-haired, witty badass who’s determined to stay in control of her life, while also learning to life fully again. Their banter, friendship, flirting, and insane chemistry had me OBSESSED, and watching them slowly learn to trust, heal, and find a home in each other was beautiful. They are messy, intense, and somehow absolutely perfect for each other.
This story really nails the balance between humor, darkness, emotion and spice. Both of their backstories are heavy, but their growth felt genuine, and I loved how they supported each other without trying to “fix” one another. Casper’s inner monologue was a huge highlight for me, and while I loved Logan and Kelly in Of Ink and Alchemy (book 1 in this series), Casper and Anna might just be my new favorite couple from this world. I need to get back to Black Rabbit immediately!🖤
🖤 Dark romance 🩷 Stalker with good intentions 🖤 Tattoo artist MMC 🩷 Recovery representation 🖤 Morally grey golden retriever MMC 🩷 He’s obsessed 🖤 Friends to lovers 🩷 Found family 🖤 First person dual POV
Thank you Sloane St. James, Podium Entertainment and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I LOVED the first book in this series. I went into this feeling - it's gonna be hard to top that. How wrong I was! This book is a JOURNEY. Both with the plot and characters. I've laughed I've cried I've giggled. UGH.
Casper is golden retriever energy - I almost thought he was going to be too sweet for my dark soul, even as a stalker.. BUT JUST WAIT.
I don't want to say any spoilers but he's FERAL. Don't let his flirty, great banter fool you. He's UNHINGED. We're getting the best combo with Casper. He's hilarious, his background is so moving and he's now the love of my life.
Our girl Anna is so strong the growth of her character is so inspiring to read. Caspers determination to break down her walls and help her LIVE is so special. Their chemistry is 🔥🔥🔥
The writing is just perfection. As with the first book, it's dark in such a subtle way you somewhat overlook it? Then you think back like, actually that's pretty messed up - but it's forgivable, commendable and also hilarious.
The inner dialog especially with Casper is just brilliant. He's not just dark he's a full well developed character with layers. While I loved Anna once again the MMC steals the show for me. Not just because he's HOT. His POVs are just perfect.
I can't wait to talk about this book. I'm practically screaming inside. NO DOUBT in my top spots of favourite books this year.
Thank you to Podium entertainment and Sloane St.James the ARC.
This was such a good book! I loved it. Anna Kucera is a client of Casper’s at his tattoo studio. She asks him to help cover up some scaring she has on her back, and when Casper realizes someone injured Anna to cause a scar there he grows concerned. Casper’s concern manifests in some stalking, and other extreme measures. Along the way he and Anna start to connect on a personal level.
I really loved Casper, and he experienced a lot of growth in the book. His devotion to Anna and how much he paid attention to her was so sweet. He recognized what Anna needed, and helped her start living again. Anna has gone through some really tragic and dark stuff, and Casper not judging her, or even pitying her was just what she needed. The relationship wasn’t one sided though, as Anna gave Casper a sense of home, which was something he’s never had.
I really loved Anna and Casper together, and thought they were perfect for each other. Casper’s golden retriever energy was too funny at times, and just what Anna needed. There is a lot of depth to this book, and it covers some very heavy themes, so make sure to check the trigger warnings at the beginning. I can’t wait to read Thor’s story! I want to thank Podium Entertainment and NetGalley for the copy of this book, I voluntarily chose to leave a review.
WOW!!! I got an ARC of this one and omg it was incredible! I loved Casper and Anna’s story so much. Casper starts off as just Anna’s tattoo artist but they really form a bond when Anna lets her guard down and trust Casper with a secret that she has been holding on to. They form a sweet friendship that quickly becomes more. Anna is so guarded (for good reason)but with Casper she feels safe. That is something she has been lacking in her life. She lets her walls down and lets Casper see all her ugly hidden scars both literally and figuratively. She trust again and Casper provides that safe space for her to do so.
Casper is also hiding a secret. He’s been keeping tabs on Anna for a while in places a bit close to home lol. 😉He does this for her safety and for the fact he’s obsessed /intrigued with her. Casper learns about Anna’s past and chooses to love her in all her flaws. He seeks revenge on her behalf although she has zero clue. Eventually though the truth comes out but Anna learns that what he did was to protect her. The ending had me freaking out a bit but it’s a good ending.
What I will say is that this book was hilarious!! I absolutely fell in love with Casper our friendly ish ghost 👻. He’s sweet, attentive, and fiercely loyal/protective. He’s book boyfriend material!! Anna is brave, kind and has over come so much. I was rooting for her peace throughout the book. This is a 5/5 star read for me. I would have definitely given it more if I could.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I swear, Sloane St. James's books keep getting better and better!! I have yet to read anything from her that I don't just outright ADORE!! And this one was no different! This one was an absolute masterpiece and I couldn't have loved it any more! Getting to see more of Anna and getting to see her viewpoint in her healing process was so wonderful, and I just so loved getting to see her drive and her strength in everything she had been through! Her fight and her determination to take control for her life was incredible to watch! And Casper was just the absolutely greatest, and seeing his special blend of protective and obsessed was absolute perfection! His absolute devotion to Anna and her safety and comfort was so beautiful to see! I couldn't get enough of these two, and they are, arguably, my favorite couple from Sloane St. James world! Plus we got to see some of the Lakes Hockey characters AND the Black Rabbit knuckleheads!! I can't wait for Thor's book!! Overall this book was a damn masterpiece, and I absolutely could not love it any more!! 5 stars; 4 chili peppers
Tropes: - Stalker with Good Intentions - Tattoo Artist - Recovery Rep - He's Obsessed - Is Her Place Haunted? - "Who Did This To You?"
You ever get a few pages in and just know the MMC is gonna be a blast? That’s Casper. His coping mechanism is dark humor/vigilantism and taking care of others—stalkery golden retriever style. I liked him at first, but I loved him after he had a full conversation with an opossum and fought for her house to have shutters 🤣 Though the man's idea of karma is very Butcher and Blackbird style, you have been warned 🤣😅
Anna is a glorious contradiction: bubblegum pink on the outside, stoic, witty, and master of banter on the inside. She's rebuilt her entire life after unspeakable trauma and is now in her soft girl era.
They’re both outrunning SEVERE trauma(check the triggers!)—he chose chaos, she chose control. I loved reading as they navigated a slow burn from friendship to so much more, learned balance and how to trust in love again....and got some very well deserved vengeance while at it.
Ultimately this book had my brain on an emotional roller coaster torn between maniacal laughter, swooning, sadness and covering my face to hide from the vengeance parts, all the way back to laughter and swoons.
Ladies and gentlemen, Casper and Anna entered the chat and I'm never going to be the same.
I loved everything about this book. Casper is such a golden retriever MMC, but sprinkle some light stalking and a touch her and d*e attitude and you have a winner. The way he protected Anna from the very start and leaned in into their evolving relationship, embracing it and welcoming the change while also learning how to trust.
And Anna, my sweet, resilient and owe inspiring Anna. The things she went through, and how hard she fought to overcome them. I felt her dread, and it was such a powerful emotion to feel between the pages. Anna is amazing, she has a sanctuary in the life she created and when Casper comes into the picture, she learns how to grab the rains of her life and go along for the ride.
Together they are perfect for each other, they both have a dark side and they accept each other as they are.
I love all the tropes and the spice is absolutely on point, the mouth on Casper is elite and Anna is such a powerful woman, owning her feminine side.
I love being in the Sloane universe. We have Anna (we’ve met her before in Strong & Wild as Rhy’s sister), and Casper (who works for Logan at Black Rabbit). Anna meets Casper through Rhys as his tattoo artist. After completing her tattoo, Anna asks Casper for a cover up. When she shows him her back, it’s a who did this to you situation. The trauma. For both Casper and Anna. Heartbreaking. Tears sliding down my face. What they’ve both been through, the pain and the hurt.
Casper has this golden retriever energy with a dark aura. He’s funny and ruthless. Stalking. Possessive.
Anna has a past that is heartbreaking. But she wants to live. She’s a strong, badass woman that’s finding herself.
The way they care about each other. One of my favorites sayings is, you have to be willing to carry the other persons baggage (because everyone has baggage). Casper not only carries the baggage, but he empties it for her so it’s not heavy, and fills it with little snacks to feed her soul. The way they love each other is just so pure, and perfect.
Oh, and let’s not forget Debra. That opossum is a lucky bitch with her custom made house.
This is Sloane's best book so far. I had SO MUCH FUN reading this. It was hilarious, spicy, and emotional. I felt Anna's sadness and fear when having to work through daily life of new sobriety, and the difficulty of maintaining while still trying to live life. Casper was the perfect person to bring Anna out of her shell, and he did it so carefully and lovingly, you couldnt help falling for him too. His little bit of psychopath and the conversations that spawned from that were so damn funny. The banter between all the characters was hysterical, and I love seeing Rhys and Mickey get brought back in (I'll forever love my Lakes boys) and show their love and support of Anna, regardless of her past. The gritty look Sloane gave us into substance abuse, sobriety, and all the in-between was done so well I never felt like it was too much or too intense. Watch your triggers on this one, the SA and physical abuse were on page, and emotionally heavy.
I can't wait to see what's in store for Thor's book. The foreshadowing we got has me SO EXCITED.
Of Karma and Corridors by Sloane St. James (Book 2 of the Black Rabbit Series) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
First of all, I’d like to thank Net Galley and Podium Entertainment for giving me the opportunity to read this arc 🥹
“No I don’t think you understand, I’m obsessed!!!” - me as of rn
I didn’t think anyone could top Logan and Kelly but apparently Casper and Anna outdid themselves !! Casper is so unhinged but such a cutie at the same time 🥹 and Anna is such a strong character and totally adorable ! When they’re together they’re sexy as hell and I wish we could see more of their future 😭 (hopefully in Thor’s book 👀) I loved everything about this, from their cute hangouts to his “asbestos removal“ 🤭
I loved the first book and loved this one even more, I can’t wait to get a physical copy of this beauty 🩷🖤
I fear I wont be shutting up about this book anytime soon, I highly recommend it to everyone. Oct 27 mark your calendars!! 🗓️
🖤 stalker in her walls (literally) 🎀 morally gray golden retriever 🖤 tattoo artist x client 🎀 opposites attract 🖤 revenge plot 🎀 dark romcom
Soooooo….. Casper may just match Logan’s level of crazy and I am ALL. FOR. IT. 😮💨🔥
He may find a secret wall in her house and literally make himself a little hideaway behind her walls to watch her—which is obviously a 🚩🚩🚩 BUTTTT… he also brings her out of her shell, takes her to his “spot”, and is just a little bit swoony if I’m being honest. 🥹
She’s so regimented in her sobriety journey, and Casper is this perfect kind of calm chaos for her. He pushes her to her limits while still holding on tight enough to make sure she never falls.
But it’s the friendship, the flirting, the tension… THAT’S what really had me hooked. Their chemistry was 🔥 and had me absolutely craving more of these two.
I am OBSESSED with this series so far and cannot wait to see what the hell is going to unfold in book three. 👀
Such a fun, messy, slightly unhinged read—and clearly, I have a thing for fictional men who should probably come with a warning label. 🤭🚩
6⭐ I genuinely refused to finish this book because I was NOT ready to let them go.
I loved Of Ink and Alchemy, but this one completely ruined me for anyone else.
Casper is a top-tier disaster and I am down HORRIBLY 😭 Yeah, the hidden wall spying situation is insane, but his dark, unhinged devotion ate and left no crumbs.
Anna is a pure cozy queen. I literally want to move in with her. She just casually accepts all of Casper’s weirdness while being a total resilient badass. They don't just complete each other, they hit different together.
The spice was utterly shameless, intense, and so fucking good.
The tattoo shop vibe was SO good. Actually, I need a tattoo appointment there ASAP. Zero boring moments, slightly heavier than book one but still funny as hell.
Seeing the gang back was elite, and the crumbs for Tor’s book officially broke my brain. I need it NOW.
ARC Review - Of Karma and Corridors Book 2 Black Rabbit Series
Whoop 6 Fucking Stars!
Casper Carrows is quite possibly the greatest “certifiably unhinged” cinnamon roll MMC I’ve read to date and I love it so much and Anna Kucera is a fiercely strong pastel pink haired queen and I’m here for all of it.
I was hooked during the entire book.
The banter, the back stories of Casper and Anna were dark and at points disturbing. The way these two are so incredibly hot for each other. I lived for the inner monologues of Casper and Anna the texting and the sibling and coworker shit that got dished out it made the progression of their relationship exciting and full of humour. I will forever be taken back to Casper and Anna’s story when ironing, frothing my morning coffee & making salad specifically with cucumber 🤭
Sloane wow this has automatically become my favourite book this year. When I say this book had everything I’m not lying. It was hilarious, sad, spicy, gruesome, violent, emotional did I mention hilarious.
This is a darker romance so make sure you read responsibly check content before diving in.
I will be reading this over and over until release day because I just want to be back there NOW!
Thank you so much to Sloane, Presh and your team for this amazing opportunity I am so grateful to have had the privilege of receiving the Early ARC for Casper and Anna’s story.
