I adopted a therapy dog, and then woke up to him shifting into a naked 6’7 Lycan King in my bed. Now he’s growling the word “mate” like I already belong to him.
I'm a bookish florist with panic attacks and a questionable addiction to spicy werewolf romance novels. The last thing I needed was a cursed Lycan King trapped in wolf form in my house… answering to the name Biscuit.
Beckett Solrath is not a dog.
He’s scarred. Feral. An alpha king. And the way he looks at me? Like I’m the only thing keeping him sane.
I said we could be flatmates. He heard mates.
And the worst part? He acts like he’s right.
He notices everything- my pulse, my scent, every shift in me. Including the exact moment I hit the good parts in my books.
He doesn't let any other man touch me without growling. Then he finds my romance stash… and reads it.
Every. Single. Scene.
And when he touches me like he already knows what I want? I forget this was never supposed to be real.
But the moment things finally feel like they could be something-
He rejects me.
Says it’s the only way to protect me. Then he disappears.
But I'm hiding a big secret that will change everything. And if this lycan king wants me back? He will have to beg.
My Therapy Dog is a Lycan King Shifter (and I’m his Bookish Mate) is a spicy, angsty rejected mate romcom featuring a feral Lycan King who spent seven years as a 160-pound wolf named Biscuit, and the bookish florist with panic attacks who accidentally became his fated mate. Intended for 18+ readers due to mature content and themes. Standalone.
I gave read this exact same plot before with a few tweaks, just enough to make it slightly different by adding things like the therapy dog aspect. Very disappointing.
18+, XXX. Adult content, reader discretion advised. This is Addie and Beckett's story. The therapy dog take is kind of cute. The trauma and abuse Addie is dealing with is not cute. If you are in an abusive relationship I hope you find a way out. That said, I would sh!t my pants if my dog turned into a man while I was asleep. That part is hilarious. I still want to know how Michael (villian/abuser) got the rock through the window. That's never explained. So after Addie adopts a therapy dog she discovered he was actually a lycan. A magical species with both man and lycan (wolf) form. When Michael finds Addie with the aforementioned rock, a blizzard was moving in and stayed for an entire week. During that week the aforementioned discovery occurs. One night is all Addie gets and then Beckett has to return home. Or so he thinks. He self fulfilled a prophecy his former sister-in-law cursed him with. Before he went home he makes a side visit to Michael brutally attacking him. Beckett made two mistakes. One, he left Addie with three little gifts he had no clue about. Two, he didn't kill Michael just left him in a six year coma. Seven later and Michael is back. This triggers the mate bond and Beckett returns just in time to save Addie from Michael and Michael's brother. Instead of calling the police Beckett gives Addie a ride home and learns of the three presents he left behind. Good thing he returned when he did because those three needed help. Beckett takes Addie and her kids to his home to help the pups. After some shape shifting on the kids part and hot sex on the adults part, Addie runs home. Home is chaos and her sister is being held hostage. Again the mate bond triggers, Michael attacks and Beckett saves the day, just in time to get a knife in the back. The cops and ambulance arrive in time to arrest Michael and get Beckett to the hospital. Does he live? Does she forgive him for disappearing and leaving her knocked up? Do the kids get to have a dad? Worth the read to find out.
What an amazing story this one was! A captivating, flowing, un-put-downable plot and two well-presented, swoon-worthy characters I couldn’t get enough of! Addie is a girl running from her past – her abusive ex hunts her down wherever she goes. She has anxiety issues and decides to get a therapy dog to help her with this. At the shelter she connects with a giant, wolf-looking dog named Biscuit. She takes him home and bonds with him. Little did she know that this was no ordinary “dog” but Beckett – the King of Solara, in Lytopia. He was kind of trapped in wolf form because of a curse and Addie chases the fog away, restoring himself again. She is his mate and after shifting back during a week-lasting storm (scaring the hell out of her) and a passionate night, he leaves and breaks her heart, believing he is protecting her from the curse that chases him. Seven years pass and fate intervenes again, as Addie is forced to search for him once again because her three amazing triplets need answers only he can provide. Time passes differently in Earth and Lytopia and Beckett will have to grovel big time in order to get a chance to explain himself. Can he get another shot with the only woman he ever wanted, earn her trust, forgiveness and his family back? A rollercoaster of a story with a lot of action, danger, swoon-worthy moments, a lot of amazing secondary characters, off the charts hotness and three amazing six-year-olds that stole my heart as much as Addie and Beckett did! A highly recommended read if you are into this genre – unquestionably 5-stars from me!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The epilogue had me grinning ear to ear. I did think the idea of the lycan kingdom being in another dimension was a bit strange, but the time difference made the love story that much more poignant. I haven't read any other books from this series because this one felt like it should be the start of a new series. I've looked at the following titles and the further I go, the more ridiculous the titles made up of a combination of a handful of words seems to be. However, this one was good enough that I'm willing to try the next one. On its own, I think this one was pretty great!
Spice level: 🌶 🌶 🌶, maybe 🌶🌶🌶 and a half out of 5.
The story was cute. The executive was lackluster. The title should have been my emotional support dog not my therapy dog. They are in fact different things. But the premise was cute. The consistency was off. The amount of time the MMC and/or friends comments on him talking about the fmc for years. When for him it was 18 months. That bothered me, since it happened frequently. There were other inconsistencies but slightly less bothersome.
This is a great book! It hits all the feels, has some laugh out loud moments, some heartbreaking ones and just a ton of heart! It's made me keep looking at my 3 adopted dogs in a different light - but alas, so far they haven't turned into anything other than the terrors they already were! Loved!!!
Wow! What a unique shifter book. And I have read alot of shifter stories lol this was hands down one unusual one. I was not disappointed you wont either. Small town woman hiding from an ex stumbles across an alpha king blending in at the local animal shelter. Not unusual there
In this book we get a rescue who turns out to be more than just a rescue. Mates can be found in the weirdest of places and under the weirdest circumstances. We are brought to the land of shimmers and plants that react to emotions and seem to grow in the air. We get stalked, and then kidnapped, especially after an automobile accident.
Definitely a cute read when in a slump. I would’ve said more emotional support than therapy dog, but oh well. It’s not something I’m just going to pick up at random to read again, more like something I’d have to be in the mood for.
Please, I beg, learn the difference between a therapy dog and an emotional support dog before you write a book about a main character who is one. This is only one problem I have with this book and its sus-ness.
I truly love this book. I like how the story moves along and we get to see different stages of their lives. My only complaint is that they should of moved and taken Lucy with them. I wish there was another book!
I expected a shifter story...not one involving different dimensions. And there were a few plot holes and continuity errors but it was a good read overall. Don't know that I would read it again though.
Loved the booking from beginning to the end. Where can I get me a Biscuit from, lol!?! Some parts had me lmao and some made me sad. I couldn't put it down and stayed up reading until I finished it.
I grabbed this book on a whim. I didn’t expect I would like it or even finish it. I could not have been more wrong. I couldn’t put it down. I was amazed at how good the story is and how attached I would get to the characters. I loved it. I laughed. I cried. It was so so good!!
